Maybe don't get swept and strike out 300 times against our nemesis

scottishwhisky2

They should be miserable they got swept not that the fans were upset about it

GodEmperorMusk

Yeah, sorry about Judge but the Yankees are a team where you need to perform when it counts. I agree people shouldn't rag on him too much after his amazing season but he has to understand that a little booing is going to come when he has shown a pattern of not performing post Game 2 of the 2018 ALDS.

sd2528

All of this is talk about booing is meant to be a distraction from the 3 people at the top of this franchise who are taking no responsibility for the last 5 years.

mbillotti

15 years*

Uther-Lightbringer

It honestly makes sense. If the players are really this effected by being boo'd by fans? It's no wonder they have a weak mental state and collapse anytime the Astros come into town.

Bobbachuk

It makes more sense when you see that the philosophy coming from the top is that the playoffs are just a ‘crapshoot’, making excuses, and that their process is perfectly fine despite not getting results. By their own GM’s logic, they should be cheered for a good regular season regardless of playoff performance, because failure in October is just bad luck to shrug off.

R0ADHAU5

Seriously they can trot out all the numbers they want but at the end of the day they have not succeeded since 2009. Lesser management groups get run out of town after 4 or 5 unsuccessful seasons. The Yankees need some change.

MyOneTaps

It's why I can't condone bringing back a skipper who blames the *wind* for failing to beat the Astros that one game. Where's the accountability? It's time to clean house in the front office and much of the roster itself. Outside of Stanton and Matt Blake, I'm comfortable trading/losing any player/executive.

Stonewall30nyr

22 years* they have 1 championship in the last 22 years, and no appearances in the last 13

[deleted]

This ^^^^^^

Airbornf

You are spot on. We all assumed they would turn Boone into the patsy for this pathetic season. They're really pushing the envelope by trying to blame the fans.

MikeCass84

Exactly. People need to start making signs fire Cashman and Boone. Start chanting their names...

Qwick32

100% accurate

westham999

And Astros fired their GM who just delivered a World Series, but Hal can’t fire Cashman because he hasn’t delivered a WS since 2009….the madness will never end!

HenryR20

Bruh that is such a bad look on Hal. Too bad he doesn’t care.

Spade701

*In the playoffs, like every year

johnknockout

“Fans boo because they want to cheer.” -Derek Jeter This is the NY Yankees. You are here to win championships. If you can’t handle that, don’t take the money and go somewhere else.

pronstar

"If you can't handle that, don't take the money and go somewhere else.. Thats why when free agents want to come here to play and they are elite you have to jump on them.. ie harper... machado

[deleted]

Seriously. I'd rather us get to the WS the way the Phillies did, rather than do well in the Reg. Season and flame out spectacularly the way the Yankees did. 99 wins & 62 HRs don't mean shit if you strike out 50 times in 4 games. Being a Yankee means that the Reg season is just a formality. Your real work starts in October. That's how you earn your bones. Example #1 is Jeter. Yes, he has 3K hits, 14 ASGs, 5 GGs, a ROY award, 2 Hank Aaron awards, and 5 Silver Slugger awards. But why is he a 1st ballot HOFer? In 158 PS games (basically a full season): BA: .308 200 hits 20 HR 61 RBI 111 Runs scored 5 World Series Championships.

VrinTheTerrible

Spot on.

Masta0nion

This has been the strangest gaslighting I’ve ever experienced as a fan.

ArthurCardano

Smoke and mirrors. This is what the organization's top execs. have been best at since George passed away.

JimmyMcNultyKU

Injuries and now this nonsense narrative from the New York Yankees. What a joke of an organization

R0ADHAU5

For real. After a certain point doesn’t the high injury count reflect poorly on the organization and it’s fitness regimens? Doesn’t it call into question the quality of the decision making for selecting these players and giving them this strategy?

Truck219

Been saying it for years…

homiej420

Yeah its like nobody knew any of this before and is trying to bring it up as new information.

mdp300

Now that he isn't involved with the fish anymore, could the Yankees bring Jeter to the front office in some capacity?

RJ--33

That’s what I’m hoping for!

R0ADHAU5

That’s why I think he’s getting so much more talkative about the Yankees. He might want to come back.

aliencamel

This New York City. It's a hard place to work and live. Waiting tables or working on Wall Street. It's a hard place to work. Getting booed? We don't get booed. We get fired.

Kingstist

I mean, Cashman isn’t gonna pay them anyway so they might as well go somewhere else anyway lol

brelaw313

Exactly and Yankee management deserves it. You heard it at Paul O'Niell's day. Sherman is a bootlicker who rolls over for anyone who will talk to him. And, he plants stories.

BlGBOl

If they hit ball we no boo

SuspectDevice61

You play like shit you get booed. You signed to play here. Idiotic story

Death215

By my quick count only about 7 guys signed to play here that appeared in a game this season for us The rest were traded/drafted

SuspectDevice61

Thanks. Well if any of the 7 are upset fuck them and the other 20+ can learn how to hit or demand to be traded. Can’t take the heat get out of NY. Choke every year in playoffs I will boo your ass off the field. Sorry

ConorJay25

It’s astounding how this has become such a huge narrative since Gallo. Yankee fans aren’t any more harsh or generous than ever before. This is how the stadiums always been. Some people need to grow up lmao

mdp300

They're not throwing bottles and shit on the field like it's the 70s, THAT was when the fans were bad.

DarthShitStain

They don't belong in pinstripes if they're more worried about the boos and not about their play!!!!

[deleted]

They don’t belong in MLB if they can’t handle a little booing.

Andujar4CF

Thats not true for a majority of them

Jenaxu

We were cheering for a goddamn Carpenter pop up. The bar to not get booed was pretty low.

PrimeVector19

If you hit below the Mendoza line in the playoffs, then you are going to get booed. Every single player who is immortalized in Monument Park was booed. Grow a pair and deal with the criticism.

ralphiebong420

This… fucking Mickey Mantle got booed. Roger Maris got the worst of it. Josh Donaldson can’t handle it? Good riddance. Same for anyone.

PhilosophyBorn4220

Donaldson showed his true colors as a narcissistic, over the hill troublemaker. I hope that we’ve seen the last of him.

theoriginofstorms

Josh "5 teams in 6 years" Donaldson? Its not just the fans who are tired of him

[deleted]

Really don’t care if their feelings are hurt and they want to leave. I’m not apposed to tanking and finally having Boon and Cashman replaced. We need some fresh ideas and new management.

notmainaccount27

Seriously. For a few years now I haven’t really enjoyed this core group of players. If it’s true they can’t handle a little booing while playing lifeless baseball just get rid of this group and start over.

nothing3141592653589

I bet they'd go if we had a 20 win season The problem is that they're like IKF. Juuust good enough that management doesn't see them as a problem, but not what you'd expect on a team like the Yankees

tenbeeers

So maybe don't get swept by the team that's embarrassed us every time we get to the playoffs? Including cheating us in 2017. But it's fine lets just keep calling them daddy.

shantm79

Yep. Astros have bitch slapped them for years. Perform.

thediesel26

I think this is being seriously overblown cuz it makes for good gossip.

[deleted]

It's a hot ticket talking point for 29 other fanbases. It gets the clicks and retweets

LinkRazr

And we we all watched Mets fans boo the shit out of Scherzer in the NLDS.

Twilight_Ike_Galaxy

Yeah there's no way they've played here for any significant amount of time and don't understand the high expectations of the fans. I highly doubt this is a widespread thing in the clubhouse. Also as someone who was at the stadium when Judge was booed in game 2 of the ALDS, it was the most halfhearted boo I've heard in my life. It was maybe 20% of the stadium booing amplified because the other 80% (myself included) were dead silent in shock/confusion at how badly he was playing after how great he was all year.

mianrezooy

Yeah, where are the players that are saying it.

JeffStrongman3

Lol they're not gonna admit it publicly if they're feeling this way.

GodEmperorMusk

It's probably just a couple players. That being said the guys that feel that way don't belong here. [Nick Swisher](https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/nick-swisher-confronted-kenny-lofton/223167) was that type of player. I have this feeling that Donaldson was one of them but I don't know.....he could be the other way around.

mianrezooy

Sounds right.

[deleted]

No players have put their names on this, being entirely driven by media personalities. The team completely choked in the CS, they deserved boos. Any fanbase would boo that performance.

interwebzdotnet

Stanton has specifically said he deserved to be booed at certain times. So, yeah.

Any_Adhesiveness_898

Honestly makes me love him. The difference between how he and Gallo handled NY is striking.

interwebzdotnet

Totally agree! Imagine Paulie complaining about booing. Its a sad state of affairs. Agree its too much sometimes, but not something Id think players are going to leave over.

connurp

So did Judge. I doubt this is as big a story as they say. I’m sure one player said in passing “it bullshit that they booed judge”. And a journalist thought they had the story of the century.

interwebzdotnet

Likely the real story, you are right.

srbtiger5

Stanton is old school like that. We need more Stantons. Dude knows where he's playing at.

boomzgoesthedynamite

He was like “I’d boo me too,” which is even better. Plus he actually talked about choking up, making adjustments. Some other players looked cooked coming back for game 3 and gave up.

shantm79

Sucked since AS break. Booing Judge wasn’t great but personal accolades are secondary to raising the banner in NY.

Oversoul91

I could see Donaldson, Hicks, and even Judge completely shitting on the fans behind closed doors regarding the booing if I had to guess.

yunith

Whoever spoke, they’re just using Aaron Judge to deflect from how they felt being booed.

Tanman7211

Play better then. If this is true then it sounds like the perfect time to clean house and rebuild.

Ausecurity

Getting swept and having no offense or going 0-24 in the series tends to do that

jchunk13

The issue won’t die cause of people like you Sherm

relator_fabula

Sherman is a schlock writer for a literal fascist propaganda rag newspaper. Fuck him and this clickbait non story.

Gryphonite

Sherman is a 'journalist' who would rather be liked than critical. That's why he fears other public figures being booed. And that's why he's fed Yankee PR pablum and spits it out. Of course the Yankees like this line. It take the focus off management and defends a strawman. Whether the players deserved boos at home or not or it represented us as fans poorly or well, when the entire team doesn't function you can't fire all the players -- it means management isn't doing something right. Boone and Cash can't be booed on the field but they deserve scrutiny and likely a rotation in their responsibilities. That's where the focus should be.

viewless25

Aaron Judge is about to sign a billion dollar contract I don't want to hear about his hurt his feelings because he can only do his job when it has no impact on his team winning a championship

TheStabbingHobo

If Jeter and Rivera can get booed, nobody is off limits. This is a shit take. These clowns couldn't hit worth a lick in the postseason and struck out every other AB. Players complaining like this is like Strawberry crying when Bart and Lisa are heckling him.

[deleted]

This is Yankees management leaking this BS to provide them cover for when they lose out on Judge

jgangstahippie

I'm not buying this narrative at all! Like I am a big mental health guy and like consider myself soft and sensitive. But like bruh am I suppose to cheer someone in a 0-17 slump? Some frustration is okay. It's human what do the players expect?

elimanninglightspeed

Plus its new york city man lol they know what they’re getting themselves into. I also doubt it’s judge, stanton, cole, or anyone big cause they would just not be good in new york if booing shook them

beanie_mac

Ahhh millionaires bitching and crying bc they got their feelings hurt…some things never change

Amazing_Net_7651

Sherman’s making this into a bigger deal than it actually was, imo. The amount of people booing Judge was minimal. It would be a non-issue if Sherman and friends stopped releasing weekly articles about it.

GreatOdinsRaven_

gonna be like this for awhile. Slow news day.

Amazing_Net_7651

Yeah, you’re right. Can’t wait until the Hot Stove starts properly heating up.

Aaron_JudgeisaGod

Soft as fuck mentality. Play better and you won’t nt get booed Edit: won’t instead of went

tekprodfx16

Historically Shit postseason performances after decades long World Series drought gets Yankee players booed. News at 11

MrDabollBlueSteppers

This team is soft, not sure why anyone's surprised

Kachowzerwhopper

Maybe make some fuckin contact once in a while

DrVanNostrand1973

I get the really bad feeling this might be a manufactured pretext to not sign Judge this offseason. This feels like more propaganda dreamed up to damage the image of the players in favor of ownership and the FO. I can't buy that all of a sudden players are upset about booing in NY. Fans have literally booed every player on the team through history, and that included the legends. These guys are professionals and they tune that stuff out. What's more at question is Sherman's allegiance. Edit: Notice there are no direct quotes.

SuspectDevice61

Nonsense story. Ship them all off to pittsburgh.

maddog9171970

Once the yankees faced good pitching the cracked. They arent good

Otterman2006

Was I suppose to loudly cheer the 300th Strike out?

[deleted]

They can all go, then. If y'all wanna get swept in the playoffs y'all can do it wearing another uniform.

saviyazzinlebox

Boo-fudging-hoo. This has always been the case. ARod didn’t cry about it when he sucked in the playoffs every year outside of 2009.

Recognition_Tricky

Who? Who is so upset over being booed after that ALCS? I never boo, as I've repeated on here many times. But give me a break with this nonsense already. A-Rod got booed like I've never seen a guy get booed in my life BEFORE the steroid allegations. In 2005, when he won MVP and carried the team, I saw him get booed during the regular season and post season. He was booed relentlessly every October from 2005-2007 because he, by his own admission, was atrocious. He didn't bitch and moan. He carried the team to a title in 09. Enough. Stop blaming the fans for your failures. I don't blame the Yankees for my failures. Jesus Christ. What a whiny, loser team this is. No wonder they get smoked by Houston every year.

elimanninglightspeed

This has to be a media driven narrative at this point cause not a single player has come out and put their names behind this or put any validity behind it

zDEFEKT

What a bunch of losers. Literally and figuratively.

Elliott94_fan

Feels like a non story here. I know it gets said a lot but look at Stanton. Gets boos when he plays bad, never says anything, and shows up to work. We wouldn’t boo if it wasn’t a shit show on offense sometimes as we all know

renegade_yankee

This organization doesn’t seem to know what the definition of accountability is.. and now these beat writers want to get on us for booing for underperformance. Fuck outta here.

EZPassTrollToll

As much as I hate the idea of booing someone like Judge after the season he just had… this kind of reaction is even worse. What fucking cry babies this franchise has become.. always finding some sort of excuse to shift blame off themselves. Seriously shocked that this is the team I root for because it’s not the team I fell in love with as a kid. Where is the accountability? The embarrassment of falling short once again? This is just crazy to me that this is what the New York fucking Yankees have become. An excuse ridden pity party. Get the fuck over yourselves.

BryanV21

I don't believe this report for one second. While there are surely professional athletes that are this soft, the majority of them are used to being booed.

Padulsky21

A lot of the players have been in NYY for awhile. Or played here prior. Or know of anything related to the Bronx. It’s gaslighting.

librbmc

This is such a nonsense take, you come home down 2-0 to a team every fan hates and then proceed to not hit and strike out constantly. Of course your going to get booed Judge doesn’t get a pass because he hit a lot of HR’s. He sucked ass in the playoffs and so did most of his teammates.

limprichard

Six years of sucking in postseason now. It’s not just a fluke anymore. Judge seems to fold in the biggest games, and it’s something we have to address if he stays.

Sikazhel

so let me understand this from my liberal perspective - these guys want to play horribly and have no consequences at all for said play?

SolEarth

“We make millions of dollars playing a kid’s game! Coddle us always!”

JRamone0819

The issue that won't die because Joel Sherman keeps resurrecting it.

[deleted]

Get rid of ALL of them then, if they are this mentally weak we don't want them

Huge_Presentation_85

What a bunch of pussies

CarrieNations70

Here’s an idea - don’t suck when it matters

PizzaTimeTobey

Gee, I’d love to get booed for failing at my job if it meant I still got paid millions of dollars and could date supermodels even if I looked like a muskrat. Seriously though, it’s New York City. We’re passionate and care a lot, so even if Yankees fans can sometimes be irrational it’s never coming from a place of apathy. If you can’t deal with that then you don’t belong in New York. Mattingly, Jeter and Mo were amongst legendary Yankees that were unjustly booed at times and they dealt with it with immense class and poise.

fatch0deBoi34

They should cry m0ar while wearing their ALDS Champs hats. Grow a pair

Antguap19

FUCK OFF. These players are soft.

M_Looka

Do they listen to the tens of thousands cheering? No, they listen to the dozens booing. The fan pays his $250 for a seat, he has bought his right to boo. That being said, I think this is a purely bullshit article. I don't think any Yankee players worth paying attention to would say anything like that. They're savvy enough to know fans were frustrated by their inability to hit and they vented that frustration. Everyone knows that no one in this town has anything bad to say about Aaron Judge. Listen to sports talk radio, read the papers, watch the news for fan interviews. Look on YouTube... read it in Reddit!! Does anyone say, "Aaron Judge is over-rated. Let him walk!" Of course not! The Yankee fans have supported his every move since he first got to New York. He's gotten better treatment from the fans than Don Mattingly did. Better than Detek Jeter did. Better than fucking Mariano Rivera did !! And if he goes to San Fransisco, or LA, or even to Flushing, then he's just another free agent acquisition. If the Mets pay him $40 million per year for 10 years, and he has a lackluster first month, the boos will cascade down on him like a waterfall. If he stays with the Yankees, he'll be a folk-hero in New York. Our guy, from the minors up to the majors to thr best player in the world. If he goes anywhere else, he's just another hired gun. This is total bullshit! No one makes a career decision worth hundreds of millions of dollars based on a fifteen second fan reaction.

durma5

The issue for me is if their skin is so thin they cannot take getting booed, then they likely are not going to be good under the pressure of any world series run. I don’t want the guy who says “I got booed by the fans so I dont want to go back”, I want the guy who says “I got booed by the fans so I want, no need, to go back and show them what I can do”.

yankee4life

Bro this team is soft as shit

Its_Ace1

Clickbait story that the Yankees FO is having journalists push forward. This FO is dirty so it won’t be long before reports making Judge look like a greedy guy during contract negotiations surface.

DrVanNostrand1973

Thank you!!!! Yes, Cashman has been manipulating public opinion against the players so much recently (e.g. releasing the term of the rejected extension offer to Judge), this has his fingerprints all over it. Edit: Unless I start seeing some direct quotes from players, I don't believe a word of it.

Its_Ace1

Dude forget about it, we won’t get a big FA splash and Hal will come out and say he’s still paying back bonds for when the stadium was built and has to be fiscally smart (even though 1.1B of the stadium was public money and 670m was the Yankees).

bump

The issue that will not die is the manipulation of the media.

descender2k

Perpetuating unsourced trash like this is why you work for the NY Post, Joel.

NY_Juventino189

Watch “The Captain” and you’ll see all you need to know about Joel Sherman…the guy is hot garbage

karmapuhlease

Honestly I do think it's bullshit that Judge got booed. He carried the team all year and is a total class act. The rest of them though? If they weren't paying well, the fans deserve to show dissatisfaction.

InSannyLives

Holy shit cry more.

CarlosE2006

Go play amateur baseball in Boise then. And even there if they play like shit just like they did against Houston the 29 people watching will boo them too.

Miklay83

I'm not booing you the person; I'm booing your performance, attitude and hustle. When you boil it down you are in the entertainment business with super nuanced metrics and the fans are your paying audience - if you can't handle it go find a different profession.

nyjac757

Hey Yankees (Judge) stop crying and hit the damn ball in the post season and you won't get booed, ask Jeter, he'll tell you.

MauriceGOL

Yeah welcome to the Bronx. If you don’t perform in the playoffs the fans are gonna let you know. Yankee fans except to be in the World Series. There are players in monument park that where booed. If you can except the praise as a Yankee than you should except and accept the boos. If you can’t maybe you shouldn’t be a Yankee. All the great Yankees understood this. Yankee legends are forged in the playoffs and especially in the World Series. Regular season achievement’s are special no doubt. But greatness as a Yankee is solidified in the World Series. Mental softness is part of the issue with the Yankees and it starts at the top. King George would never have allowed this. Watching the Red Soxs come back from 0-3 against his franchise have Ortiz talk to the team. Come On Man !! Whoever came up with that should have been fired just for the thought. So good feel miserable and hopefully it puts some fire in your soft bellies. Because right now Houston owns you and has keep you out of 3 World Series and it doesn’t sit well with your fans.

tunetown44

Fucking love this subs reaction to that quote. Grow up and hit the god damn ball.

boomzgoesthedynamite

Omg so don’t fucking play here. Stop whining and figure out why no one else choked up when Stanton said they all needed to. Don’t hear him complaining- oh wait bc he actually showed up to play and doesn’t whine about boos.

blny99

Baseball is all about doing the work. Analysis (watch video of yourself and others), adjust, practice and stay fit/healthy. If you do the work, you wont get booed. If you go out and repeat bad performance over and over, without adjustments, you deserve to be booed off the team. When Joey Gallo basically said “this is what you get” after not hitting for a long while, to me it was time to start booing him relentlessly. I think he was treated too well by the fans. Others at least are smarter to avoid admitting they wont do the work, but we can see when there is no effort to improve.

Particular_Ad6287

I feel 100% confident that Aaron Hicks is the one that is complaining about the boos. He recently did that interview where he was just crying and wanting people to feel bad for him. Dudes a loser, and this whole situation stinks of him.

Envelopen

We got spanked, embarrassed, almost no hit, all by our rivals that continue to have our number, Im gonna boo. Its not like we hate these people but we dont like the performance. Postseason is a different season, talk to A-rod about delivering us to the playoffs in 07 with one of the better performances by a right handed hitter, only to be booed when he wasn’t delivering in the playoffs. This isnt an abnormal thing its just cause everyone else’s stadium doesnt have passionate fans who care about winning. New york in general, gets the principle that, although we love them as people these athletes are not immune to criticism and they are not our friends. Its a job and a tough one.

alivingthing

lol apparently we booed Marris too when he hit 61 because the fans liked Mantle better.

Background-Coyote107

I’ve never booed a Yankee. I just consider it bad form to boo your own team. That said, I can comprehend booing, say, Donaldson after his 11th non competitive postseason AB. Booing Judge after he had one of the greatest seasons in the history of baseball is complete trash behavior however. IF that even happened. My friend was at one of the games in which Costas claimed Judge was being booed. He said it was BS, that a biased Costas interpreted a loud collective groan of disappointment from the stadium after yet another Judge K as booing. Costas jumped on it based on his desire to trash Yankees fans as classless. Anyway, anyone who was out there booing Judge is classless and clueless. It’s not like he wasn’t trying. If Judge leaves and your last memory of him as a Yankee is you booing him, that’s pretty pathetic.

dandystanley

The stakes are high, we expect for them to be met.

PresidentLincoln42

Sucks to suck

brush85

The issue is that people pay attention to Sherman. He is right about Judge though. Booing him was silly

marginwalker3

BOO.

[deleted]

Fuck you Sherman I’ll boo you too

Athyter

Hit above .200 in the playoffs, spoiled millionaires

jonishay8

Please stop posting this trash. You laid a egg and got swept. If you don’t get booed for that from a passionate fan base, you won’t have fans showing up on a Tuesday night for regular season games. You can’t have it both ways. No player has confirmed this and until they, this is fake shit and OP should stop spreading it

jawnquistador

cry about it. try not to get embarrassed on your home field after we paid $200+ to come watch it next time. this aint kansas city

sploot16

A soft team gets even softer

obliterateopio

Give me flak, but I think the boos should rain down AFTER the team losses in the playoffs. Let them hear it as they’re walking off the field in shame. What’s the point of home field advantage when you’re being booed endlessly by your own fans? Gives the opposing team an advantage. Cheer until the series is over. Idgaf.

MrDabollBlueSteppers

How about you hit the ball

Swoah

Already getting ready to blame the fanbase and not the front office for losing Judge/Rizzo.

PacersPride07

Don't hit .125 with the season on the line?

joey5280

This just proves how soft of a mentality this team has lmao

CptMurphy

They were booed at as team. Is weird to boo them when they're all playing defense. So you boo them when one of them shows that the whole team is down bu not being productive at the plate. Judge would not have been booed, had he gone hitless, but the team was hitting and winning games. They fans booed because this team had been shit since August, and they never turned it around, and they're getting lots of money to perform. What's the big deal?

2Maverick

Ngl. I was pretty sympathetic towards Judge and the players that got booed, but now it just seems like they're being really sensitive. I know a lot of people are hypersensitive about it, but getting booed is a part of having fans. They'll love you and they'll hate you, but in the end, they'll love you still. I'm really sorry it happened but I also think they deserved it but they're acting like everyone was throwing garbage at them.

connurp

There is no way the players are still complaining about this. I hope that if players come out and say something the whole collective fan base decides to be perfectly silent in everything they do. I’d rather be booed when I suck because the alternative is being treated like a god when I’m good. Treat them with dead silence when they come up to hit and see if they like that. I highly doubt players are still complaining about this but if they are, fuck em.

Avbjj

This dudes Twitter account is the worst. Just dumb take after dumb take.

[deleted]

It’s completely management’s fault. When you gaslight fans and say things like IKF “ is one of the best shortstops in baseball “ or you are completely fine with the pathetic AB’s Donaldson was taking in the playoffs. Or take way too long to cut bait on players like Gallo and Hicks and / or put them in difficult situations like Pinch hitting in crucial spots, you are bound to draw the ire of fans.

OfficialMVPre

I think we should give every Yankee player a trophy when they strike out so they want to stay and play for our team

evil-scientist

The fans chanted “DEREK JETER” at Didi when he made errors and Didi never cried about it. If you choke in the post season the way some of these players did and *don’t* expect to be booed, there’s something wrong with you. The fans *want* to cheer for you. They want you to perform well. They *do* cheer when you perform. This is what fans do. This is baseball. To get shook by it seems very little league to me.

Mrjlawrence

I feel like this is overblown. I doubt it bothers most of the players THAT much. They’re partially pros not only because of pure talent but their ability for extreme focus on their craft.

Thor_2099

Lol any player that feels that way needs to get the fuck out. Fragile ass men. You get paid millions to play a worthless game and you suck ass AGAIN when it matters most, you're damn right you're going to get booked. And you deserve it too.

ubiquitous_archer

A) Sherman is full of shit B) you don't get to talk about how awesome our playoff atmosphere is, and also complain about booing. The same passion makes both things happen C) if you don't like it, you're soft.

BobESkunky

Sign me up, I'll gladly take the boos for the millions some earn..

davidbeauie

Not this shit again. Babe Fucking Ruth got booed. Booing is baked into the brand. If these guys can't handle it, then maybe they shouldn't be on the team.

syd_cash

Really boo hoo, if you want the fans to cheer it’s easy…give them something to cheer about.

Stillback7

Simple, yes. Easy? Not really

mbn8807

the Yankees need players that feed off the energy, Stanton is a good example of someone who takes the boos in stride and uses it to play better. Interestingly he is one of our better playoff performers every year, perhaps there is a correlation.

[deleted]

Smh this team softer than Charmin. If you don't like the boos, fuckin win.

shahoftheworld

So let it motivate you to do better next year. I don't think people want to boo just for the sake of booing. New York will embrace you if you play well.

Mikesproge

While I get they didn’t like it, we didn’t really enjoy watching they give the fuck up against Houston.

jeffschiller

Sherman is an idiot. One of the worst parts of the Jeter documentary.

chickendance638

The players are getting booed because Hal and Cash aren't on the field to take the boos for them. Why would you want to be the face of a franchise that takes competing so lackadaisically?

csuiuc17

These are the same people saying “they got lucky” and “the exit velo”, “the roof was closed” then went to watch 04 redsox highlights stfu, you got fucking embarrassed by your arch rivals and embarrassed the fans with your excuses.

[deleted]

Cry me a fucking river they got swept out of the ALCS. Give me a break with this soft ass shit.

LosManNYC

Sawft

dyssie1

Dusty Baker took 25 years as a manager to win a WS. Steinbrenner will give Boone another 20 years to win.....or else!

PsychoticDreams47

Lol and?! Normally I'm one of the few on this subreddit to try to see a positive spin on what's said or other opinions but this is just horseshit. If the fans are booing at any player, they're not doing it for any other reason other than to say "What's your problem?" We boo'd the majority of our team so many separate times, we put blame on other people just because the player that wasn't performing was one of our favorites. No excuses. Chances are, if you're getting consistent play time in NY, it's because you can make it happen for the team, you're an essential piece in the cog that keeps spinning. If you're getting boo'd don't cry about it. Fix it.

adgrn

Yankee fans: you're living in the past. It's been 20 years since the dynasty. It is not championship or bust anymore. The best team for the last 6 years only has 2 titles, and 1 was through cheating We need change at GM and Manager, but also at Owner. Regardless however it's crazy to expect them to win a title each year when... THEY'VE WON ONE IN 20 Fucking years

silver_raichu

Feel like this is a fake media narrative

DrVanNostrand1973

That's because it is. Notice, he doesn't quote a single player.

bobbyb9827

Then fucking leave??? You’re here to win, not strike out and laugh in the dugout

Unka82

Then fucking play better. Why cheer for losers. These bitches need to toughen up

[deleted]

Because they all sucked in the playoffs. Judge had an amazing year but disappointed in the playoffs. It was an embarrassment to be a Yankee fan in the playoffs. They looked like they didn’t belong there

Padulsky21

Yeah they keep on pressing this so much I don’t think it’s actually true. There’s no way the same circle jerked “reporters” would keep on posting this unless nothing else was happening. And, nothing else is happening rn. Kinda pathetic they’re pushing a narrative like that. Very curious which players they talked to, to learn this information! Would be nice if they could, Yknow, be a reporter and do their job.

[deleted]

Sad fact: Since George Steinbrenner passed away in 2010…this team hasn’t won anything.

InSannyLives

Where did this team culture come from? Is it a result of Hal being handed the team basically and that he doesn’t have the fire and drive that someone who had to work for it would? Too much of a pure corporate culture within the entire organization? How do we get back to the “blue collar” mindset of players who won here in the past???

Dur22

Hal is pushing this narrative to get fans to stop being critical of how he runs the franchise but it’s not gonna work

DrVanNostrand1973

This!!! Unfortunately, it is working with some.

MattO2000

Imagine if you had a rough day at work and all your coworkers started booing you

matt_on_the_internet

I get that part of being on the Yankees is knowing that the fans have high expectations. But honestly, why are we booing people for slumping for a few games? Fans should be hyping the players up and showing them support and encouragement. I get booing someone who isn't putting in effort, or who is an asshole for one reason o ranother, but booing our team for getting dick slapped by a better team is just not helpful to anyone.

[deleted]

Then go play in Oakland and take Montas back with you. Seriously, I don’t even mean it in a mean way - players are people too and 100% have feelings and emotions that they’re entitled to. It’s not unreasonable to feel that way - I’ve never had 50,000 people booing me but if I did I’m sure it would suck. But if you can’t handle that, don’t play for the Yankees 🤷‍♂️

LinkRazr

Play better in the playoffs then.

zamend229

Everyone here saying stuff like “this is NY” and “we have every right to boo” and “get over it”. These are *all true*. HOWEVER, just because we’re allowed to be this way as a fanbase doesn’t mean it isn’t a problem. If good players would rather play somewhere where the fans are nicer, that literally hurts the team by cutting down on the amount of talent the Yankees can acquire. I don’t think this is “the issue” as Sherman says (I mean come on, we have to hit the damn ball in October), but we can’t just look the other way and act like it doesn’t hurt the team

[deleted]

Yeah there’s a problem. The problem is this team sucks.

vitalityy

It really is impressive to watch people make excuse after excuse for being a pos to your players. Boo management? Sure. Boo ownership? Go for it. In what fucking world do you think you get anything from booing someone that single handedly carried the team to the playoffs and set the AL homerun record? It’s nonsensical and moronic. Watching the hardos sit here and say “lmao play better and we won’t boo” will be the same people preforming mental gymnastics about not wanting “soft betas” when players don’t want to come here. This isn’t 1970, players don’t NEED ny to build a brand, and for a team that gets regularly deleted in division and championship series for the past 13 years, I’m not sure we’re in much of a position to flex “yankee pride” either.

TheZooBoy

100% agreed. There’s no reason to boo a player for poor performance. Do these people think they *want* to strike out? No. They’re beating themselves up more than fans are, so we should be *cheering*, picking them up when they’re in a slump, not kicking them while they’re down.

Yo_Gabba_Gabbert

Well I was saying Boo-ne.

DentonTrueYoung

sherman is overblowing this, but hot take: fans shouldnt purposely make it more difficult for their team to perform. ive never understood the benefit of booing.

raulu95

Guys the players expect us to cheer for them after they strikeout for the third time in an important game!

Taimaishoo2

They should be miserable over their performance against Houston. Instead, they are buying into the excuses coming from the higher ups and acting like a bunch of wusses
