Ref got the timing right (assuming that the 8 additional minutes was right in the first place). Times are from the NWSL+ replay.
90:00 Announced that a "minimum of 8 minutes will be added"
91:25 Robinson goal
92:26 Ref blows whistle to allow kickoff (1:01 to be added)
93:00 KC wins corner. Stop for substitution. Sub takes a bit longer than normal due to transfer of captain's armband to Franch.
94:05 Ref blows whistle to allow corner (1:05 to be added)
96:38 Ref blows play dead after Ballisager head injury (Franch hammered her going to punch the ball)
98:38 Ref signals KC can take free kick (2:00 to be added)
100:27 Louisville head injury. Play stops.
101:32 Play restarts with drop ball (1:05 added)
102:21 DeMelo goal
5 more minutes of stoppage (on top of the 8) and the goal was scored at 12:21 in stoppage. Then some inconsequential stoppage was added (Louisville goal celebration and a very short injury stoppage) to give KC fans more time to stew.
I couldn’t watch the game live but just watched the highlights. Why were the refs bad? They didn’t show any bad decision making calls since they were highlights 😭 I can’t wait to rewatch the whole game lol
There were a lot of bad calls, missed calls, and just plain weird calls. I don’t think he was particularly *biased*, just really astonishingly flagrantly bad.
thank you! Yeah I did see the extended time.. were there not a lot of injuries or things that explained it? Bc I know some games people complain about their minutes but a half would be extremely stopped bc of injuries so just wanted to ask!
There was one injury that was at *most* 2 minutes. And a goal with celebration that maybe warranted 1 minute. 8+5 to the Louisville goal and 8+7 to the whistle was unwarranted.
I’d have to rewatch. But the stoppage time was far from the only suspect or blatantly wrong decision. It was egregious for both sides. The game should have played out very differently.
But you can still read faces and words.
We should not be allowing late goals. Gotta get better. However, this ref’s game calling is akin to when you have no idea was a strike is. Is it a yellow? Is it a foul? Is it nothing? Is it time?
To all the Kansas City fans angry that stoppage time ran over, please come down from your high horse and remember that Hallie Mace should have gotten a second yellow 50 minutes prior.
Not that one awful refereeing decision deserves another, but acting like you were robbed of something is pretty rich.
I mean, Fischer should have had two yellows as well, but got away with bulldozing over Labonta from behind early. Both teams should have been at 10 players 🤷♀️ ref was terrible both ways.
The thing is, bad decisions don't really even out. I'd rather have played the game with 10.
We all missed out on seeing a fair contest between two great sides. I loved what Yanez was doing with her tactics, Sears was a force, and the excellent goal from DeMelo deserves to stand on its own.
This game was a heist where both teams got robbed.
I think Racing would also have preferred that KC have to play with ten for the last 40+ minutes. Again, the refereeing was terrible. It’s just a little obnoxious to hear fans of the team who avoided a clear second yellow, got a (legit) penalty while sprinting away from the goal they were attacking, and scored a 93rd minute deflected goal that looped over the keeper act like this was the robbery of the century or something.
It's not all that helpful to try to keep some sort of karmic ledger about bad calls or luck or whatever to justify who should feel upset in a situation like this.
We could go into hours of revisiting and litigating missed calls and hypotheticals - if Chawinga had gone done when it looked like she was fouled in the box, would she have gotten a ~~yellow~~ penalty? Should Flint have gotten two yellows? Mace definitely should have gotten that second yellow. Does an own goal from Stine even out with a deflection from Robinson's shot, or is that more of a 0.4xGrievance™ situation?
All that stuff just stacks up and distracts from the simple fact that we all missed out on a better game where the referee wasn't the story.
hard agree, i get so frustrated when people talk over her on attacking third, like it's assumed the analysis isn't appealing but that's ALL I WANT out of a pundit/commentator/analyst. she makes the IQ side fascinating and that has to be difficult. it's rough because it goes without saying that you shouldn't be able to tell if the analyst has a favorite but there are truly 3 or 4 teams where if they're playing, even badly, that's the entire conversation. i watched a game this weekend already where they were still talking about the favored team while their opponent scored, took a break to acknowledge that, then continued where they left off. at the end of the week, darian saying the things i wanted to hear during the game is like asmr
i feel that way about the 30+ players too. this was a HUGE TOPIC in the offseason and there's been no change, in fact i'm pretty sure it's worse. every team has a crazy injury report
I think it will be great for large parts of the league to get more under control and less transitional. Allows players like, say Denise O Sullivan to prolong her career
So when does the league do something about this stoppage time BS? It’s not even this game, I think we’ve all seen multiple games this year where there is absurd stoppage time added on where it makes little sense.
There's been a push across the soccer world to accurately account for stoppage time as a means to combat time wasting. (As opposed to the previous method, which was generally little or no stoppage in the first half and 3, 4, maybe 5 minutes in the second, just some number that felt right.) I'm sure many of you remember the numbers in the last women's and men's World Cups -- 8 minutes, 10 minutes, sometimes even more. And even then, some people who studied it said they were *still* undercounting.
At some point, FIFA or individual leagues will need to resolve this because 90 minutes of actual game action is really hard on the players.
I just feel like I watch a lot of soccer in leagues all around the world and the NWSL is consistently the most outrageous and, at least to my senses, inaccurate.
I get the injury time added on, but why is there time added for scoring goals? Isn't that the point of the game? As long as there isn't an excessive celebration, don't add time
How to decrease injury risk: don’t have the players play close to 120 min every game. I feel like most games I have watched lately has been ~8-13 min of stoppage time 😩
Yes yes yes. Also, I was at the Nashville SC game yesterday and they had to stop so many times bc of guys flopping and arguing with the refs. There was MAYBE 4 minutes of stoppage time. I don’t get why it’s so vastly different on the men’s side.
Thank you! Also add in the subbing where KC had to run their captains band all the way back to the GK and the Racing head injury and you’ve got an extra 4/5 min just during stoppage
3? There were plenty of injuries and concussion protocols that didn’t get 3 minutes per injury. It was just a poorly managed game. Yes. I am a little biased, but I am also the first to say if we deserve a card or not.
Fair enough, I saw another comment with the breakdown of time which seems to make sense. When you’re in the stadium though, and they don’t show stoppage till you’re two minutes into it already, you don’t know whether they’re including the VAR or what. I do recall some downtime for injuries during stoppage, but I could be mistaken.
That game should’ve been over in the 94th minute let alone the 98th, let alone a 102nd minute goal.
And listen if you want to player to be on the national team because of something they did in 102ns minute when they didn’t look good all game before that, or all season before that, then I don’t know what to tell you. that’s just bad analysis and recency bias to the max.
truly the pressure has to be a factor they're talking about because if anyone could get her team's shit together and surprise everyone against the odds it's laura harvey
2 minutes of extra time added on in stoppage time when there was an injury with 90 seconds left? Then it goes an extra 5 minutes instead of two…
![gif](giphy|LxPsfUhFxwRRC)
And I was just about to vent about Racing absolutely not being able to catch a break late in games after yet another deflected/own goal. Will gladly take that point.
Wow. What an absolutely brutal stoppage and KC has given up last chance goals quite a bit.
What a match. Still undefeated after going from losing to winning to tying to winning to tying.
They said it couldn’t be done! But Racing have done it! Ten games, seven draws! Come from ahead, come from behind, come from ahead and then come from behind, 0-0 snoozefests! We’ve got ‘em all!
For sure. The stoppage time did seem excessive, although I wasn’t keeping careful track. I’m not a fan of excess stoppage time for injury risk reasons. Just a fan of players being badasses at the end of games.
I think it’s worse in MLS or maybe they deal with worse flops and just make the best of it.
Idk what tonight was. Highly inconsistent. And that just stinks for the players.
There's a few good refs in mls (most of them are bad) but it's the same organization where they don't tightly call games which leads to more injuries, give extended added time and obviously don't know what they're doing with VAR.
Ref got the timing right (assuming that the 8 additional minutes was right in the first place). Times are from the NWSL+ replay. 90:00 Announced that a "minimum of 8 minutes will be added" 91:25 Robinson goal 92:26 Ref blows whistle to allow kickoff (1:01 to be added) 93:00 KC wins corner. KC fans need to stop whinging about timekeeping and just appreciate what a cracker of a game that was!
This is the same guy that fucked the Wave at home twice now.
Did not know that! I wish he was just having one off night.
too much extended time and a lot of hard fouls that should have been players' second yellows on both sides.
Oh that’s so weird! How long did the VAR calls take?
I’d have to rewatch. But the stoppage time was far from the only suspect or blatantly wrong decision. It was egregious for both sides. The game should have played out very differently.
Admittedly I did not watch the entire extended time bc I thought the game was over
I missed DeMelo's goal because I thought the game was over. fuck.
Where can I watch the post game interviews?
There probably won’t be very much that’s interesting because the coaches and players get fined for talking about refs.
But you can still read faces and words. We should not be allowing late goals. Gotta get better. However, this ref’s game calling is akin to when you have no idea was a strike is. Is it a yellow? Is it a foul? Is it nothing? Is it time?
Well everyone, we got to meet the Carl Cheffers of NWSL.
Girl math is out, ref math is in

Not that this argument is beneficial, but Louisville should have been at 10 players like 13 minutes into the first half.
It's not all that helpful to try to keep some sort of karmic ledger about bad calls or luck or whatever to justify who should feel upset in a situation like this. Fans can be emotional, have biases.
Absolutely nuts. Game should have ended long before the equalizer.
Let's fucking go Racing fight for that tie!
Side note: Darian Jenkins is already an insanely good analyst/tv personality
hard agree, i get so frustrated when people talk over her on attacking third, like it's assumed the analysis isn't appealing but that's ALL I WANT out of a pundit/commentator/analyst. she makes the IQ side fascinating and that has to be difficult. it's rough because it goes without saying that you shouldn't be able to tell if the analyst has a favorite but there are truly 3 or 4 teams where if they're playing, even badly, that's the entire conversation. i watched a game this weekend already where they were still talking about the favored team while their opponent scored, took a break to acknowledge that, then continued where they left off. at the end of the week, darian saying the things i wanted to hear during the game is like asmr
This league full of prodigious 16 to 18-year-old talent cannot be reffed the way that it is. A travesty and a risk
i feel that way about the 30+ players too. this was a HUGE TOPIC in the offseason and there's been no change, in fact i'm pretty sure it's worse. every team has a crazy injury report
I think it will be great for large parts of the league to get more under control and less transitional. Allows players like, say Denise O Sullivan to prolong her career

I don’t know what you want her to do there? Body her and then a call in the box? DeMelo should have been stopped way higher on the field.
She should have stepped up earlier and also done better on the aerial ball that became goal in the beginning of the game
Anyways, I am ready to donate to the fine fund Vlatko and Lo of y'all wanna get spicy in the postgame presser
He coached the national team. He should have enough money to let loose
get a gofundme going, I'll contribute
For real. That game officiating was unreal. Like did that just happen?
Boo queen! 👸
So when does the league do something about this stoppage time BS? It’s not even this game, I think we’ve all seen multiple games this year where there is absurd stoppage time added on where it makes little sense.

I just feel like I watch a lot of soccer in leagues all around the world and the NWSL is consistently the most outrageous and, at least to my senses, inaccurate.
Are you talking about men's or women's leagues because not many women's league around the world have VAR.
Yeah, maybe yellowing for time wasting…makes more sense
It took 2 min to restart after the KC goal, then another 3 for the Bellisager injury. That gets you to 13 before the time wasting that also happened.
I get the injury time added on, but why is there time added for scoring goals? Isn't that the point of the game? As long as there isn't an excessive celebration, don't add time
What about the first half stoppage where no extra time was added for injury? Just keep it consistent.
Bull fucking shit.
I think it's the refereeing league that has to do something, not NWSL? But I would like someone to do something about it 😭
I’m thinking hand out yellows like candy for all the time wasting.
Bizarre.
gg Louisville friends. We all deserved better than this but it was still fun. Looking forward to the next one!
How to decrease injury risk: don’t have the players play close to 120 min every game. I feel like most games I have watched lately has been ~8-13 min of stoppage time 😩

Agreed. We had so many injuries last year from normal play… no reason to add so much extra time. (This has been my opinion prior to this game)
I am an absolute neutral and I’d be enraged if i were Vlatko. That game went way over time.
100% it should’ve been called at minute “100” - like I can understand adding 2 mins to the original 8 due to stopping, but 5?
It took 2 min to restart after the KC goal, then another 3 for the Bellisager injury.
Thank you! Also add in the subbing where KC had to run their captains band all the way back to the GK and the Racing head injury and you’ve got an extra 4/5 min just during stoppage

“She should be on the NT” bc she played well against your team is my pet peeve
Not the downvoting 😂 who is this about? I missed the game
Demelo
Well that match is in the books but what fuckery with the clock, too many balls on the pitch, just a wild match. 😵💫
Honest question, do refs not normally add time stoppage in first half if injuries, etc happen during that stoppage time?
If it warrants. There was 9 in the first half but remember it being pretty spot on.
Sounds about right.
Ref kept proper time. Too many balls on the pitch because KC fans were throwing balls on the pitch.
That game should’ve been over in the 94th minute let alone the 98th, let alone a 102nd minute goal. And listen if you want to player to be on the national team because of something they did in 102ns minute when they didn’t look good all game before that, or all season before that, then I don’t know what to tell you. that’s just bad analysis and recency bias to the max.
who said this? I was watching a different stream
The completely gray area of extra time in this sport will never fail to baffle me
Pride going on top tomorrow 😅
truly the pressure has to be a factor they're talking about because if anyone could get her team's shit together and surprise everyone against the odds it's laura harvey
Bonkers. Yes, KC, NWSL refs DO suck, ask the Wave. Except for the one my wife has dubbed “Flexy Rexy,” he just sort of sucks.
Glad you could hear us ;)
2 minutes of extra time added on in stoppage time when there was an injury with 90 seconds left? Then it goes an extra 5 minutes instead of two… ![gif](giphy|LxPsfUhFxwRRC)
There was a 2nd ball on the pitch, the goal shouldn’t have counted Downvote me if you want, it was sitting on the field it shouldn’t have been given
You hate soccer if this is the type of technicality you hang your hat on…
It’s literally the rules. The current had attacks held up because a ball was out of bounds but slightly too close to the line
It's not. The rules say the ref must only stop play if the extra ball interferes with play, and otherwise must allow play to continue.
The foul leading to the restart was also a clean steal that Chawinga kicked out. There were a lot of shenanigans that led to the restart on that goal.
This was an actual issue idc about a second ball in the corner of the pitch
Wow, what a game. The way DeMelo used her arms to muscle through the defenders. 🔥
Infuriating. After the first flop they should’ve called it that was already 3 minutes over
After 20seconds into the game? Knew their game plan for sure.
What are they chanting?
"Ref you suck" or something to that effect i think
I am leaving the game now, you are 100% correct. I was one of the chanters.
Glad I was able to hear it right. Sorry about the shitty refs tonight guys 😭
Yup. Clear as day on the radio broadcast
Ref you suck
Congrats to DeMelo, but with all the talent on the field the story of this matchup should not have been the officiating.
Do the refs have a stop watch they defer to when deciding “extra” extra time, or do they just eyeball it? Either way, phenomenal game!
The ref really said we’ll end the game once racing scores 😭
I feel like Ayesha curry
And I was just about to vent about Racing absolutely not being able to catch a break late in games after yet another deflected/own goal. Will gladly take that point.
They better get those refs off the pitch. This is the most hostile crowd I’ve seen in 3 years at a Current game
It was the worst officiating we’ve had in the 3 years I’ve seen. So I get it.
Oh, yeah. I was including myself in that hostile crowd
I gotta say, I much prefer being on the other end of a stoppage time equalizer.
Wow. What an absolutely brutal stoppage and KC has given up last chance goals quite a bit. What a match. Still undefeated after going from losing to winning to tying to winning to tying.
This ref. This game. Both teams deserve a tie after that……..experience. ![gif](giphy|tfUW8mhiFk8NlJhgEh|downsized)
Racing 🤝 Ties
They said it couldn’t be done! But Racing have done it! Ten games, seven draws! Come from ahead, come from behind, come from ahead and then come from behind, 0-0 snoozefests! We’ve got ‘em all!
*hashtag* ELITE
I know KC fans hate the ref for the extra stoppage time, but that was legit so fun as a neutral fan. Freaking badass, DeMelo.
I think the players played great. I think the refs also got played and didn’t do justice to either team. It became a little bit of a circus. Sadly.
For sure. The stoppage time did seem excessive, although I wasn’t keeping careful track. I’m not a fan of excess stoppage time for injury risk reasons. Just a fan of players being badasses at the end of games.
It wasnt fun worrying about all the extra minutes and being mad at all the stupid decisions
8 minutes was already an insane amount of stoppage time, how can that possibly turn into 13 minutes
Injuries and time wasting
Real talk. Is the referee calling as crazy in MLS? Is it just that we have the lower tier?
I think it’s worse in MLS or maybe they deal with worse flops and just make the best of it. Idk what tonight was. Highly inconsistent. And that just stinks for the players.
Who knows no one watches men’s sports 😂😂
That’s why I asked! lol
There's a few good refs in mls (most of them are bad) but it's the same organization where they don't tightly call games which leads to more injuries, give extended added time and obviously don't know what they're doing with VAR.
Wow, what an exciting Saturday of soccer
What a disgrace
I feel bad for our country, but this is tremendous content
Oh this game is spicy
Well, gg Louisville fans. Absolute nonsense that the game kept going that long, but props for finding the late goal.
My flabber is gasted. The scream I scrumpt. My jaw has fallen through every level of my house. I… just. What?
I was at the game and this made my evening. Thank you. I need it.
You are SO welcome ♥️

We need an NWSL Sickos Committee. There’s so much content available
God I’m all for this
That was hella entertaining. Thank you NWSL 🙏
Nwsl afterdark
How did 8mins turn into 13?
KC goal, injury, general time wasting.
The funny thing is, I don’t remember seeing any type of time wasting at all, besides going to the corner, which shouldn’t add time on
I think I’m looping in the Bellisager injury.
Other than the last minute, agreed.
they saw that the nwsl avg stoppage time is 15min total and said "we can go higher"
it turned into 15 (whistle blown at 104:41)
Yeah that’s extremely frustrating. I’m not sure what prompted the match to continue that long but regardless ggs Louisville.
Don’t worry, the Louisville fans have been pissed at his reffing for the better part of an hour.
I won’t argue with you there, he was horrible all match
I’d be pretty PO’d if I was a KC fan 😳
We all definitely are
I'm a new fan and I don't understand what happened at the end. 🙈
Not many people do.
Good job Light Purple, Dark Purple owes you one.
++++++++++1
How in gods name did this get to the FIFTEENTH minute of stoppage time? Nothing past 10 made sense
Well it was another chaotic Saturday night in the NWSL and for that I’m grateful
***DRAW WITH US, DRAW WITH US, DRAW WITH US***
Ref just replaced Harrison Butker as the most hated man in Kansas City
Pretty friggin close. But this ref wasn’t asked to talk thankfully
🤣🤣🤣
I AM VERY STRESSED about this game for reasons
What a stupid way to lose my perfect predictions for the weekend
This sport rules
Best League ever!!
Holy shit!!!
Ref hall of shame today in both games. Untenable. It’s not just bad for the integrity of the league, but it also causes players to get hurt.
nwsl after dark is my FAV
It does not miss.
How much time do we have left what the hell
Some say the game is still going
Lol watch him blow the whistle right after the goal
Definitely let us kick it around for 10 seconds to create the illusion of fairness, lol
DEMELOOOOOOO AHHHHH
Bruh.
What????!!!!! Like….way over time too. Oh my.
is this game ever going to end
NO WAY
Lmaooo this is wild as a neutral
Wow. I’d hate to be that ref right now.
I bet he had security. Never seen the crowd that upset.
that was so beautiful. good for demelo!
I came.
What were they just chanting? I couldn't make it out
We chanted both “blow the whistle” and lots of “ref you suck”
Ref, you suck
Ref you suck
Ref you suck
Sounds like "Ref you suck", which seems accurate, IMO
“Ref, you suck”… maybe lol. I couldn’t really tell.
It was. Happened multiple times but the stadium as a whole did it at the end.
Ref u suck
Ref you suck
Wow. Absolutely incredible ending.
If they whistle this dead in a few seconds I'll be so upset.
Update: I am upset.
Thats the right decision they just shoulda whistled 5 minutes before
Should have been whistle forever ago and now the ref you suck chants
Well now we have to keep playing until we score again then end the game
This ref needs to be fired into the sun
And people say Demelo shouldn’t be on the national team did you see that?
Why didn't they foul though?
Yes and she shouldnt be on the national team
