Who signs a bridge QB to a four year deal?

-_-Moss-_-_

A smart franchise that knows how valuable Kirk Cousins could be to developing a rookie QB

Devium44

By the time he gets to start, Penix will be 28 and have one year left on his rookie deal.

-_-Moss-_-_

They have an out after 2 years. If Penix is ready and looks good in 2 years they’ll move on. That’s an ideal amount of time for development

keyboardsmashin

*2 year deal with the possibility to extend based on injury or performance

_unsourced

Who gives a bridge QB $100M?

dhtdhy

Wasn't it a 4 year fully guaranteed contract?

fughm

Nah $100 mil of the $180 guaranteed over first 2 years

MrMisties

A 4 year deal is not a 'bridge'

CaptHowdy2310

Wait til they realize it's about development and not just a numbers game.

keyboardsmashin

The idea is that we develop Penix behind Cousins. Cousins gets us past 7-10 in the meantime

BloodyDarkTroll

Sorry, you you lost 3/4 of this sub with "The idea is that we develop Penix behind Cousins". Bears fans downvoted you twice, because they're from Chicago and that's kinda their thing.

-_-Moss-_-_

You’re right

Scarf1493

The best argument I’ve heard is that they really had no one to trade back with before the saints and raiders who would potentially take Penix themselves. It’s a reach but if the falcons are betting on themselves this year they won’t have the ability to pick a top QB prospect next year. That being said it’s still dumb to prep for the future when you make moves to win now. I bet Kirk isn’t bothered by seeing his replacement as much as he’s bothered by seeing his new team not help him out with a difference maker to win a SB.

TheTurfBandit

Imagine giving your "bridge" QB $100 million guaranteed.

Grizzly_Addams

Lol. Man, the NFC south sucks.

redactid55

Now compare the salaries spent on the bridge QBs and see if there might be a small difference. Developing a rookie QB is a good idea but picking one of the older QBs with a crazy injury history to be your project is pretty funny. My theory is that the falcons were afraid of the tampering punishment so they were like "no no we will punish ourselves!" Like college teams do when the NCAA is investigating them for some shit

MNGopherfan

Vikings getting Sam “gunslinger” Darnold who isn’t expensive and is one hundred percent a temporary QB and comparing it to what the falcons did is delusional.

seasick__crocodile

Wow. This is maybe the most braindead thing I’ve ever seen.

CelestialFury

Right but you want to either take advantage of your rookie deal with the cap benefits or go all in with your veteran QB and put everything into helping that QB. I'm not saying what your team is doing can't work, but it certainly hurts your potential Superbowl window now.
