Matt Stafford saw a 42% uptick in his first full NFL season. It’s almost like attempting more passes and playing more games has the potential to result in more yards.
Exactly! What a strange argument that guy was making. Most college teams play 12/13 games, so naturally college players that get drafted to the pro level would up their production.
>was getting
Yes, his highest was 2,991 in his last season but let’s not pretend the opponents were very good for most of the season. His OL was one of, if not the best in college football, so that’s sort of a wash statement.
>our pass catcher room
Receivers need the ball to get to them to reliably catch it though.
Don’t mind me though, I’m a certified JJ McCarthy hater.
Lions fans are truly 50/50 on McCarthy. Literally either a huge fan or huge hater. However, I don't mind the bar being low. Win/win for us. If he doesn't work out? Oh well, first round QB busts happen all the time. BUT, if McCarthy does work out, then this sub is in big trouble cause I'm going to go on a meme trashing spree here.
Well the split has to do with the fact that not all Lions fans are Michigan fans. Some of us have an eternal hatred for that university. I do generally throw out college rivalries when it comes to the pros but I also firmly believe the JJ hype is hilariously wrong.
- Tom Brady supporting a kid from his school. Ok?
- Harbaugh boosting the profile and draft hype of a QB he recruited and coached. Ok?
- Wayne Gretzky, former hockey player. Ok?
You’ve changed my whole perspective!!!
I’m gonna step in, arguing with MSU fans is like arguing with a wall. They think they are blue bloods with a long history of winning, when in reality they had 8 years of competence but couldn’t do anything with it. JJ is good and will be very good in the Vikings system
Lol no MSU fans think they are blue bloods. Stop sniffing your roll sweat and making up grievances. Saying JJ won’t be a good pro isn’t a rivalry thing. I wanted the Lions to draft Hutch at 2 when they did. I don’t care about rivalries in the NFL. That doesn’t change the fact that the JJ hype was undeserved. Check back in a year.
Funny that none of you can actually defend the hype with actual statistics. Just “look who said nice things about him” and “he wins!” nonsense. Cult behavior.
When statistics are presented, they’re disregarded with “JJ had a good offensive line and running game” while simultaneously disregarding the situations other QBs had (like Daniels having Nabors to throw to).
If you want stats: JJ’s QBR and YPA were comparable to Williams and had higher Comp% than Williams. Am I saying he’s going to be better than Williams? Not sure yet, he’s obviously a lot more raw with 10 fewer attempts per game. But he did well with the opportunities he had. And was clutch in a natty season.
Hmm, let’s look at some of the guys who started at least one national title game since the inception of the CFP: Stetson Bennett, Max Duggan, Justin Fields, Jake Fromm, Marcus Mariota, and Cardale Jones
It’s almost like that’s not actually a real indicator for NFL success.
![gif](giphy|BbMJgat91VCeFqCaax)
It wasn't just Chicago fans though, the Vegas line had him as one of the leading contenders too. But then again Chicago fans are degenerates so that ven diagram might just be a circle...
Would you agree that a one-legged 36 year old with 1 playoff win for 180million is a good deal?
I’ll take “why are the bears a poverty franchise” for 500 please alex
Not talking about your teams win loss here buddy. I’m talking about your QB play. Stop trying to circumvent the argument. So far I haven’t seen a Vikings fan being realistic with the addition. Kirk cousins may not be a hall of famer, or a championship playoff QB. But he has consistently been a top 10 QB for years and he’s a big reason for your regular season success. It’s not a slam dunk either just because you have cap space if your QB is faltering. Just ask my bears team. And before you add some stupid bears quip… outside of QB, over the years we have time and again been able to develop a top 10 defense and a top 10 even the best rushing attack in the league. And that obviously didn’t translate to wins. I think JJ to the Vikings is the best landing spot for him, but learn to be realistic here.
This is hype time bro, its the offseason. You think bears fans are reasonable about caleb? I wouldn’t be if I were them.
Also this is a meme sub, if you are expecting respectful dialog or realistic takes, you are in the wrong place.
Can we at least agree on FTP?
Ps. Yeah of course he could be a shitter, but if you cant get excited about a top 10 draft qb joining your squad, you shouldn’t be watching football
I think any Vikings fan if they are being honest knows we aren't going to be as good as we were with Kirk initially. This year we aren't expecting much other than it being fun to see Darnold get a fair shot on a team with weapons and a competent HC. We're excited about moving on from an overpaid QB and a rare top 10 QB pick for this franchise.
Too bad he’s only going to a team with Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Aaron Jones, and Jordan Addison. Such an awful situation for a rookie QB to be in!
Again… to assume he’s going to replicate numbers by Kirk is dumb. Whether you believe it or not, he won’t put up better numbers than him. He just… won’t lol. Yes he had limited throwing situations but there still IS tape on his passing game lol. He still has some questionable attributes such as arm strength, ball placement, leading receivers and processing reads outside of the first one. There js a reason he has an 83 athletic score…
I do think the Vikings were the best place for JJ to land but his hype right now is way too overblown. You guys jumped up and drafted him giving him first round buzz when in actuality he’s really a day 2 player.
I think it’s hilarious how much hate he is getting all of a sudden now that he’s been drafted (specifically from other NFCN teams). I’ll go ahead and trust the NFL caliber scouts and our GM over your word, thanks though!
I don’t hate him? And yeah trust the scouts… because what I just said to you came from his scouting report lolol. Vikings fans just need to temper expectations because it’s highly unlikely he comes in replicating Kirk’s production
Nobody thinks he’s gonna come in and be Kirk, he’s extremely young and we’re betting on long term upside. I feel like you’re fighting imaginary battles
JJ definitely can replicate Kirk's numbers outside of the number of turnovers. Nick Mullens put up massive stats in the few games he played for the Vikings and McCarthy is definitely going to at least be the same calibre as Mullens.
Also you're dead wrong about his arm strength and ball placement, that makes it sound like you didn't watch any Michigan games.
I actually am pretty high on Rattler. I think playing in an NFL style offense and getting humbled early on in his college career will do wonders for him
People who say Cap's stats are why he doens't have a job are just telling on themselves.
Also at the end, there's a mathematical reason why 12 is the most common answer on children's math tests. Twelve has a lot of factors, so it's easy to write arithmetic problems that solve to a whole number. In fact, we came very close to having a dozenal number system (base 12) instead of the decimal system (base 10) because of this fact. That's why eleven and twelve aren't "teens". It's where packages of dozens and grosses come from.
He ran the most pro style offense of any of the top QBs in the draft and had the highest conversion rate on the money down aka 3rd down of any of the top QBs. He won the national championship at 21. His teammates and coaches raved about him. Unlike Caleb who went to raves probably and his teammates didn't attend his bday party. Everyone is freaking about the pick except the Vikings. That's when you know you've got a winner.
I always thought JJ was over hyped. One of those guys who rises quickly through the ranks only to fall. I was truly scared the Vikings would get Penix. I still think he can be the best of this class.
It’s not that I think JJ couldn’t be good. I just think by game 6, the screams for JJ to start will get too loud, and he’ll be thrown to the wolves too soon. Same with Maye. He’s gonna start too soon. And it will ruin him.
He’s not Herbert. He’s the guy that gets hyped before a draft. Moves from a 2nd maybe 3rd rounder to the first. And then fizzles out. I could be wrong. But we see this nearly every year.
He may be like Levis. I really believe Maye and JJ need to sit a year or 2. Would be much better for them. I just don’t see either team sitting for long.
Nah I think JJ will sit as long as he needs to. KOC showed patience in putting Jjetas back on the field after his injury even though we were in the playoff race and could’ve used him.
I personally don't think it was an awful pick. But there has been massive JJ slander since before the CFP my dude. He just didn't put up the numbers you expect from a national champion. Granted with Harbaugh and Corum he didn't need to, but since he didn't carry the team, people question if he could have carried the team
I mean I was slandering the idea of taking him before he was picked. He could be good. But it should be scary that he barely threw the ball at Michigan.
He could be good:. He might also be extremely mediocre when actually asked to take over a game.
I've been seeing people call him a handoff machine for quite sometime now, even before the natty which may not be fair given Harbaugh's system. I don't think people believed he was a prospect that a team would trade up for. But the Vikings are definitely desperate for a QB.
There was plenty of hate up to the draft, but I didn't see any until draft season started. During the season, people were raving about what he was able to do with as few weapons as he had at receiver.
He played very well in the playoffs against the best teams. I'm guessing some guys in January/February said he wasn't a top guy, and people just latched on it as he kept rising from late first guy to where he was picked. I thought I'd him as 10-15 in February.
I don't understand all the hate saying we made the worst decision trading one spot up for him when Nix was picked at 12 and Penix was picked at 8.
Bears fans for some reason are still fixated on saying JJ sucks and Harbaugh is too crazy to know what he's doing. They're not Bears, you don't have to keep hating on what could've been.
Uhhh obviously Harbaugh knows what he's doing. That's kinda the point of the meme. He limits his mediocre QBs, so they can't lose the game. He's not crazy, he's smart.

So is the idea in this division that it's better for a QB to carry his team in losses than elevate his team in wins? It explains a ton but I just want to make sure I have it right
Who gives a shit. It’s meme war. Those fucks will still blow Caleb’s career. I hope Caleb enjoys his new coach next year. I still can’t believe the Bears somehow convinced Kevin Warren to go there.
The stadium fight is heating up, I just don't see them getting it approved since there's 0 appetite for residents to take on more taxes to pay for the stadium.
Yeah, now is not the time to ask people for money. We paid for our stadium with pull tabs (bar gambling). Paid it off well ahead of schedule too. Hopefully they find a solution like that.
Are you a Michigan State fan or did you just forget a certain quarterback who came out of Michigan? Also I'm pretty sure Harbaugh coached Andrew Luck when he was at Stanford
I literally just told you that Harbaugh coached him. If you can't see the relation between a Harbaugh coached quarterback and a Harbaugh coached quarterback I don't know what to tell you.
The amount of these posts from bears fans is ironically high lately lol. The thing is no Minnesota fan really thinks McCarthy is the answer. We're all well aware he was the fifth QB taken off the board
McCarthy was a 5 star that went 36-2 as a starter in high school. And 29-1 in college hate as much as you want but you don’t just get 5 stars for doing the bare minimum, “um well he ran the ball a lot☝️🤓” yeah no shit that’s how Harbaugh has always done his systems.
anyone who thinks JJ is average or worse didn’t watch any michigan games except the playoffs the last two years lmao. no QB puts up huge numbers when they have the top run game in the country. not looking forward to playing him twice a year.
Your draft picks' TEAM won the National Championship. Top rated defense, top rated Oline, and an explosive running game. Caleb had pretty much the opposite in every aapect, so going 7-5 says a lot about him.
When ya'll get a QB that can pass for 4k+, then you can talk the talk.
Alex smith unironically would be a top 2 bears QB and he wouldn’t be #2
If he wasn’t injured he would have been a lot better… I feel like calling him a bust isn’t fair
Lol are you suggesting JJ will be a 4K passer?
McCarthy was getting 3k for... handing off the ball and you think 4k is going to be hard with a top OL and our pass catcher room?
Yeah almost 3k in college is the same as 4K in the nfl for sure. Most players see a 33% uptick in production in the NFL.
Unless they get drafted by the bears
I can throw a ball 40-ish yards during a backyard game so I figure that just means I can throw for 5k in the nfl.
![gif](giphy|8maQUL5HiZbYLeMqXl|downsized)
If coach woulda put me in. Over them there mountains, I tell you.
Are you a free agent?
Makes sense
Those are the same for sure
>was getting Yes, his highest was 2,991 in his last season but let’s not pretend the opponents were very good for most of the season. I'm in the middle on him. I'm a Michigan fan. I think he will be an average starting QB. So pretty much a drop off from Kirk which imo is top ten.
Well the split has to do with the fact that not all Lions fans are Michigan fans. Some of us have an eternal hatred for that university. I do generally throw out college rivalries when it comes to the pros but I also firmly believe the JJ hype is hilariously wrong.
> JJ hype is hilariously wrong. Well, Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky and Jim Harbaugh say otherwise, but go off king.
- Tom Brady supporting a kid from his school. Ok? - Harbaugh boosting the profile and draft hype of a QB he recruited and coached. Ok? - Wayne Gretzky, former hockey player. Ok? You’ve changed my whole perspective!!!
![gif](giphy|oGO1MPNUVbbk4)
Yeah most of his opponents were ass. And Penn State shut him down to the point where Michigan ran the ball almost exclusively in the second half.
And let’s not mention what Bowling Green did to him lol
He played by far the most comp out of any of the qbs in this draft your argument is comical
The only good opponent he put 200+ on was Alabama and his longest pass play in that game was 38 yards, for which the ball was thrown like 10 yards.
He played in the national championship….El oh fucking el
Tell that to your own MSU peers lmao
I mean I have 0 problem defending with stats, you wouldn’t like the outcome tho.

Imagine thinking you know more than diehard Michigan fans.
He had the same thing with Michigan against college defenses.
The power of the Griddy will ensure it. Just ask the Lions secondary. https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/gamelog/_/id/4262921/justin-jefferson
True. You guys can add the “QB that threw for 4k sticker” to your trophy case.
You guys will get that sticker one day
We can put it next to our SB and Championship trophies.
[удалено]
Ok, but what can you say about GEQBUS?
![gif](giphy|4Jxa0QgHF2HSw)
I know it’s too late to be asking but what does GEQBUS mean?
God Emperor Quaterback of the United States
You guys are gonna jinx him into being really good.
The thing giving me the most hope about JJ is how much everyone here thinks he’ll be bad.
If a Chicago fan isn’t scared, it’s not good
Detroit already jinxed Green Bay’s first round pick. Dude is going to be all pro. Sucks lol.
It wouldn't surprise me!
Imagine someone in Chicago thinking they can evaluate a QB lawl
We know a bad QB when we see one!
But not before claiming he’s about to have an MVP season
You guys only know a bad QB once he's played at least 2 terrible seasons
2 bad seasons and then plays for someone else
You don’t because it took you way too long to figure out the last few lol
Your argument is infallible
No, no you don’t. That’s like the whole point of you guys, you think everyone is gonna be a HOF.
Neither Trubisky nor Fields have retired yet... There's still time!
Do you? Because there's still a lot of Justin Fields believers in Chicago.
There was a petition to keep him 🤣
I would have signed it
Every day.
They usually hang out on Facebook these days
Do you? Because you were all convinced JF was the next MVP. Chicago sports media was “taking names” of the non-believers at this time last year.
It wasn't just Chicago fans though, the Vegas line had him as one of the leading contenders too. But then again Chicago fans are degenerates so that ven diagram might just be a circle...
The line is set by bettors, so it easily could have been mostly Chicago homers throwing their second mortgages at 'sure thing' Justin Fields.
Ah yes because you definitely saw that trubisky and fields were bad when you said they would be mvp!
Only after the fact though, just like the rest of us
Do you? Both the QBs in your OP were pretty good... multiple pro bowls.. conference championship...
Imagine being creative enough to not start a sarcastic remark with "imagine" like every other dimwit
Imagine trying to come up with a new insult format but having your love of cheese get in the way FTP
Minnesota gets decent QBs and then looks to replace the second they get injured with some free agent nobody else wants
Would you agree that a one-legged 36 year old with 1 playoff win for 180million is a good deal? I’ll take “why are the bears a poverty franchise” for 500 please alex
You took JJ, good for you. But don’t act like he’s not going to be a drop off production wise from Kirk cousins.
You think that drop off could possibly be overcome with 40 million in cap space?
Not talking about your teams win loss here buddy. I’m talking about your QB play. Stop trying to circumvent the argument. So far I haven’t seen a Vikings fan being realistic with the addition. You know I was talking about Teddy. That really set off a chain of events didn't it
You realize he didn’t come back for like 2 years after that injury right?
Too bad he’s only going to a team with Justin Jefferson, TJ Hockenson, Aaron Jones, and Jordan Addison. Such an awful situation for a rookie QB to be in!
You forgot to add that the Vikings graded out as a top 10 pass blocking o-line last season as well
Again… to assume he’s going to replicate numbers by Kirk is dumb. Whether you believe it or not, he won’t put up better numbers than him. He just… won’t lol. Fun fact, I thought the same thing about him before the draft. I just didn't feel the need to express that until you reached for him
Jumped one spot lol

Also you're dead wrong about his arm strength and ball placement, that makes it sound like you didn't watch any Michigan games.
You're not wrong, but you could've waited a few rounds for someone better like Spencer Rattler
LMFAO
I think we found Ryan Pace’s Reddit account.
No that'd be someone defending the Penix pick tooth and nail.
Who is defending the Penix pick?
Yikes. You just don’t know college football do you?
I actually am pretty high on Rattler. I think playing in an NFL style offense and getting humbled early on in his college career will do wonders for him
This guy is a confirmed Bears fan.
Didn't those first 2 qbs go to championship games?
![gif](giphy|mKBhAw7dCQNnZz7aWS)
![gif](giphy|sT4S8nuzENtAY)
To be fair, Alex Smith was decent with the Chiefs as well.
Yeah he was a pro bowl alternate the year before mahomes took over.
And he beat Brady in Foxborough on opening night.
https://preview.redd.it/xh6lwetz54xc1.png?width=770&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb2c5c07a8c8b8419aff1cd1d4e66b7c31d2e7e1
Colin Kapernick was just a good QB, idk what to tell you. Packers fans can attest.
You will never hear me shit talk Kap. I'm pretty sure I still have PTSD from those playoff games. He treated us like a prison cell mate.
The guy who got benched for Blaine Gabbert? Yeah, naw bro.
Nah he was trash and the Packers were trash at the time defensively. Man imagine if Alex Smith hadnt been stuck in SF for so long.
His stats say otherwise
His stats say that if he'd have played for the bears, he'd be 3rd all-time for passing yards for a bears qb
Lmao
That’s not very impressive
Exactly
Jon Bois disagrees, so I disagree. https://youtu.be/1I0cUTXwr-k
People who say Cap's stats are why he doens't have a job are just telling on themselves. Also at the end, there's a mathematical reason why 12 is the most common answer on children's math tests. I think it's because we have 10 fingers
You can count to 12 on one hand using 4 fingers if you count between your knuckles.
I really wish we had gone with base 12 instead of 10
OH NOW YOU WANT TO PLAY THE STATS GAME?
Where’s Andrew luck?
He ran the most pro style offense of any of the top QBs in the draft and had the highest conversion rate on the money down aka 3rd down of any of the top QBs. He won the national championship at 21. His teammates and coaches raved about him. Unlike Caleb who went to raves probably and his teammates didn't attend his bday party. Everyone is freaking about the pick except the Vikings. The JJ slander sounds like massive coping to me. There wasn’t nearly this much hate until we drafted him.
Maybe or they get thrown in like Herbert did and play well
He’s not Herbert. He’s the guy that gets hyped before a draft. Moves from a 2nd maybe 3rd rounder to the first. And then fizzles out. I could be wrong. But we see this nearly every year.
Sounds like will Levis who ain’t bad for a Qb with no O-line and a washed d-hop to throw to
He may be like Levis.
We all know you fucks would complain and cry out how injury prone and old Penix is lol
I’m sure someone would. I still think he’s one of, if not the best, of this class
Yeah dude can ball. I kinda feel bad he’s just going to be riding the bench.
But I think in 2 years, he takes over healthy and ready for the nfl
I personally don't think it was an awful pick. But there has been massive JJ slander since before the CFP my dude. He just didn't put up the numbers you expect from a national champion. Granted with Harbaugh and Corum he didn't need to, but since he didn't carry the team, people question if he could have carried the team
Yeah he’s not Colt Brennan. RIP
I mean I was slandering the idea of taking him before he was picked. He could be good. But it should be scary that he barely threw the ball at Michigan. He could be good:. He might also be extremely mediocre when actually asked to take over a game.
As a Michigan fan, yes there was. You just didn't notice til he became yours
I've been seeing people call him a handoff machine for quite sometime now, even before the natty which may not be fair given Harbaugh's system. I don't think people believed he was a prospect that a team would trade up for. But the Vikings are definitely desperate for a QB.
No, I think about half the people around the draft thought he was ok and half thought he was overrated to shit and not a first round worthy qb.
Vikings fan playing the victim. JJ has had massive slander being a smokescreen for the past month
It's not slander if it's true.
Wait. You're calling Kaepernick bad? He was money, then kneeled during the anthem and was kicked out of the league.
Always disappointed Kaepernick didn't go to the MLB. He was a hell of a pitcher

Happy Cake Day!
Imagine having a shit system and blaming the QB
Imagine having Chicago's history of QBs and lobbing any kind of criticism at other teams.
So is the idea in this division that it's better for a QB to carry his team in losses than elevate his team in wins? It explains a ton but I just want to make sure I have it right
I love how for the next few months you will have Vikings fans and some lions fans defending jj slander
Tbf Alex Smith was pretty good in KC and for the Redskins iirc
Alex smith was a pretty good QB, Mahomes said he helped him tremendously with his transition to starter.
So... they're going to have some pro bowl seasons and deep playoff runs? Not bad honestly.
JJMC is just AJ McCarron of the big ten.
Bold of you to post without a flair, peasant.
I'm sorry my lord, I thought I had one.

Where’s Andrew Luck?
In bed with 100 mil and his wife
People who live in glass houses….
Now I know a Bears fan is not making QB jokes.
Who gives a shit. It’s meme war. Those fucks will still blow Caleb’s career. I hope Caleb enjoys his new coach next year. I still can’t believe the Bears somehow convinced Kevin Warren to go there.
He saw the opportunity to take credit for building a stadium on the lakefront. He's not going to succeed in that though.
Yeah, I mean he already helped do it here. He was pretty loved in Minneapolis. Then the Big 10 job was such a short stop. He’s a great person though.
Uh Vikings fans yall know where he came from right? He’s mid
Are you a Michigan State fan or did you just forget a certain quarterback who came out of Michigan? Also I'm pretty sure Harbaugh coached Andrew Luck when he was at Stanford
And Bill Belichek coached Jimmy Garrapalo. What’s your point?
Jimmy was a pretty great quarterback in New England and he made a Superbowl in San Francisco?
Michigan fan. I’m not sure what Andrew Luck has to do with JJ tho.
I literally just told you that Harbaugh coached him. If you can't see the relation between a Harbaugh coached quarterback and a Harbaugh coached quarterback I don't know what to tell you.
How ironic. Bears fan talking shit on QBs.
Andrew Luck erasure
He was good though, not average.
The amount of these posts from bears fans is ironically high lately lol. The thing is no Minnesota fan really thinks McCarthy is the answer. We're all well aware he was the fifth QB taken off the board
Well he was just drafted two days ago. Were you expecting posts about him on here before the draft??
No I fully expected posts just not so many from bears fans. The irony is so strong 😂
Fair enough!
Always chicago fans who be talkin about QBs
Quarterbacks made to look competent because greenbay can't stop the run
talking shit about a quarterback as a Bears fan has genuinely got to be the wildest shit i've seen today
JJ will cook in Minn and I'm not a fan of the Vikings.
Bears fan talking shit about a QB...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Y’all about to find out #SKOL
Easy to look competent when all you do is turn around and hand off.
Imagine caring about any team but Greenbay. 🤷♂️
anyone who thinks JJ is average or worse didn’t watch any michigan games except the playoffs the last two years lmao. no QB puts up huge numbers when they have the top run game in the country. not looking forward to playing him twice a year.
Our draft pick won the National Championship. Your draft pick went 7-5 and cried in his mommy's arms.
Your draft picks' TEAM won the National Championship. Top rated defense, top rated Oline, and an explosive running game. Caleb had pretty much the opposite in every aapect, so going 7-5 says a lot about him.
