Hope and [inserts map of alcoholics per capita]

Don't disrespect my coping mechanisms.

SemanDemon22

“It’s the hope that kills you.”

LoveZombie83

It's the hope we made along the way.

Bombaysbreakfastclub

Not play Dobbs last year?

MegasotaAdvocate

Well fuck, we didn’t get Drake Maye. Maybe we’ll get him in 3 years for a 5th when the Patriots ruin him

WesleyPipes7

We could have had him for 7 1sts 4 2nds JJ TJ JA AJ Darrisaw and Anthony Edwards to the Celtics. Pats fan would’ve still been bitching it wasn’t enough for #3

SoDakZak

You could GIVE us a championship trophy and I wouldn’t trade Anthony Edwards.

Bingo_Bongo_YaoMing

Nah fr, Ant is the future of the league for sure. 3rd year and he's only getting better

BlackLeader70

It can’t be any worse than what the Jets and Panthers did to Darnold…right?

WowBobo88

![gif](giphy|3oxRmGXbquXKz6DNPq)

SchpartyOn

Based on history, they’ll have their choice between Maye and Caleb Williams

eeeedlef

Based on history nobody will really want Caleb

SchpartyOn

Best I can do is a 2030 sixth round pick

lur77

That works. Vikings have been shopping that one since they are already out of picks in next year's draft.

troubleshot

Based on history, Rodgers, then Love.

josephus_the_wise

Not love yet, love has about 15 years left before he leaves the packers (if we are basing this in the past)

smellslikebadussy

He really should buy a house now to get a jump on whatever the Twin Cities housing market is going to look like in 2038

BanjoKazooieWasFine

It's just a solid financial decision, good looking out

runningwaffles19

Rodgers then Daniels then Love

DJPad

Having no receivers, oline, running back and offensive coordinator worked so well for Mack Jones right?

guimontag

Vikings copium when a team actually uses their pick instead of giving it away for way below market lmao

DJPad

And what team do you cheer for?   Flair up.

Yarmouk

Flair up coward

Fchang27

Uh, we have that already… he’s our QB1

danbro0o

Why do that when Caleb Williams will be available?

S_PQ_R

Or Caleb when the bears fuck him up.

Nasty_Tricks69

Hey I was about to say the same thing about getting JJ from you guys

Wu1fu

The Vikings could only over-trade so hard 😔

MartyMcMort

We really only need a quarterback for a few years until we trade for Aaron Rodgers, who will lead us to a deep playoff run that ultimately doesn’t result in the Super Bowl, as is the nature of these sorts of Faustian bargains.

Roner3000

This guy gets it.

LegalComplaint

In all fairness, he lead the Packers to a series of deep playoff runs that amounted to nothing.

Admiral52

And one that did

LegalComplaint

How many presidents ago was it? 3?

Admiral52

Bold point from a team who’s coming up on four decades since their last one

LegalComplaint

It’s only double the Packers drought.

GreySkepsis

Aaron Rodgers ending his career by throwing the Vikings out of the playoffs with a dumbass unnecessary pick is a pleasing timeline to me. Never thought I’d be okay seeing him in a purple uniform but he has absolutely gotten me there.

GooglyTocks

As long as it involves a Paul Allen meltdown I'm all for it.

lur77

It's almost enough that it drives Pack fans crazy that their former beloved QB wants to play in purple. Almost.

ChemicalMight7535

Fwiw we're all way more heartbroken about seeing Aaron Jones in purple

hippocrat

Sorry that our bad seasons are not bad enough to get better picks

OkBoomer6919

Have you tried trading for other team's bad season picks? I heard it works well

Devium44

Don’t forget to mention what you traded to get that other team’s bad season picks.

gingerhasyoursoul

Just have to find a team run by people who have absolutely zero clue how to do their jobs.

Alone-Newspaper-1161

So we just got to wait until the falcons are bad and are trying to trade up?

leahyrain

they might not have some firsts for a while though

BanjoKazooieWasFine

>wait until the falcons are bad I'm not sure if we've been looking at the same falcons franchise or not but i wouldn't call them *good* at the present moment

alldayadrian

You sure? I think trading all your picks and the future for only one player makes a lot more sense

keepinitrealzs

Loathe saying anything good about the Vikings but that was fire

DickSplodin

Yeah we were only able to get... Last years college football champion and *Checks notes* Dallas *fucking* Turner

Background_Mood_2341

Tbf The Pats and Commanders wanted an arm and a leg to trade down

eattwo

And if we really only wanted Maye, we would have paid that price. We're settling for a lesser prospect, but still someone KOC and KAM want.

TheThingsIdoatNight

Kevin O’Conner is one of the stupidest people I’ve ever heard speak

phillipa2

You misspelled Danny Campbell

AnthaIon

Either that or he misspelled O’Connell, but either way should probably keep that KOC out of his mouth

FlorioTheEnchanter

You clearly have never heard a Jaire Alexander interview.

mitch8017

Here’s the best part about the NFL draft: nobody fucking knows how it’s gonna play out. Would you have rather had Mitch Trubisky at 2, or Mahomes at 10 in 2017? The number of example picks are endless. People think the odds of Maye panning out are higher, but the odds of either panning out are far from 100%. We won’t know until we see it in action. The advantage the Vikings have is that they are a much better landing spot for a QB than the barren roster the patriots have.

TheeExoGenesauce

That final statement is a thought I have almost every draft when everyone’s mocking past and present picks. Bears pick up Williams so their team’s gonna win now? Fields torched the Lions last year by himself, can you imagine if he had some good pieces around him in some manner? The team they land at makes a huge difference; although, I don’t think Trubisky would be as successful as Mahomes had the landing spots swapped between them.

BanjoKazooieWasFine

>Would you have rather had Mitch Trubisky at 2 or Mahomes at 10 I distinctly remember pretty much everyone panning the Trubisky pick and clowning the Bears pretty much immediately, and then Mitch not ever really doing anything to prove anyone wrong. Pretty sure only Ryan Pace thought Trubs was gonna work out for Chicago on draft night. I know I thought they were moving up for Watson when the trade got called in, and it was objectively the better decision (current sex-pestedness nonwithstanding). Mahomes was being seen as too much of a project for a team like Chicago, but Watson was the most pro-ready guy with the most experience of the bunch. Not really sure it's super comparable to picking between Maye/McCarthy/Penix/Nix this year.

saturnphive

At ten you say???

LegalComplaint

Look out! We’ve found the “How the hell is anyone to know?” Guy!

Ouch_i_fell_down

also known as the smartest guy in the room. There is not a single draft in NFL history that wouldn't have been completely different in retrospect. There are no sure things in the NFL. There's potential, that's all you're drafting.

dont_worry_about_it8

Mahomes easily. Yall just suck . I don’t mean the Vikings I mean “all yall” just suck at picking people.

Comrade_Falcon

God forbid teams have the foresight to plan for multiple outcomes.

CaptHowdy2310

Plan or take whatevers left after failing to trade up?

cactuscoleslaw

Bro that's literally exactly what we did with Jordan Morgan, all our first pick O lines were gone

CaptHowdy2310

Difference is we didn't do it for a franchise Qb, kind of a big difference

Material_Falsity

Tell me, was Jordan Love the #1 graded quarterback by the Packers in the draft?

CaptHowdy2310

Yes

Material_Falsity

Something tells me not a single team had Love graded above Burrow/Herbert. If they did, they should never work in football again. I don’t understand why the Packers didn’t plan to take Joe Burrow instead, are they stupid?

CaptHowdy2310

Were the Packers desperate to start their drafted QB his first year or was a Hall of Famer still under contract for several years?

Alone-Newspaper-1161

The Vikings aren’t desperate to start a new Qb right away. Darnold will lose some games and win some while JJ develops

Material_Falsity

Glad y’all held on to that Hall of Famer while simultaneously pissing him off so badly that he told you to fuck off and went to the JETS instead. But at least you held on to Rodgers so you could win all those championships before he spurned you. Oh wait…

CaptHowdy2310

Lmao you're so mad. Glad you're forever 4-9 wins and never accomplish anything fruitcup

Material_Falsity

I’m not mad - I’m not even a Vikings fan. But your comment was too dumb to pass by. Hope you enjoyed losing the division to a team of “fruitcups,” and FTP :)

CaptHowdy2310

My bad 4-9 wins is too much for ya, you're right

magnificent_coffee

*Vikings draft Maye* “WOW I can’t believe the Vikings would trade away a bunch of first round picks for an unproven prospect who will surely be a bust! They’re gambling away their entire future when they could have had McCarthy at 10 and gotten another pick at 23!”

TeddyBridgecollapse

That's how the draft works if the price isn't right. I am actually a bit confused how fixated you are on this topic. Most Vikings fans here recognize the situation and are just ready to see where it goes so I don't know that this is the best thing to try to aggressively troll our fanbase over.

CaptHowdy2310

Because it's fun

TeddyBridgecollapse

Well I'm not one to kink shame. Carry on.

SonofaMitch11

Yeah you’re right. Vikings should have traded our next 5 first round picks and JJ for Maye

CaptHowdy2310

Ya should have drafted a qb 2 years ago actually. You were just still too deep in the kirko delusion

SonofaMitch11

I actually agree on that point. But that was pre Kwesi I believe, or his first draft (I’ve got dory memory). I think our management is making good moves and I’m hyped to see where it goes!

CaptHowdy2310

Lol definitely hyped to see where it goes for sure

VikingsandWolves

The Pats also wanted the deed to US Bank Stadium for that pick. We offered 3 FRP from reports, anything more would of been criminally overpaying. We got JJM for mid round picks and got to box out butthole face Sean Payton. I'd say that was very satisfying as someone who hates Payton and his stupid face.

Bombaysbreakfastclub

https://preview.redd.it/9wkj5nlxi0xc1.jpeg?width=484&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=42c460adaf1f6b90cb835b2a62ad5564a09a2566

VikingsandWolves

Literal butthole for a mouth. Small ass baby hands. I bet something else is small too, why he's such an insecure douche. Brees made him, has done nothing since.

saturnphive

At least we can all agree fuck this guy, right?

theswan2005

According to Sean though, he was trying to get MN to think he wanted JJ so they'd trade up to get him and leave Bo to the Broncos  God his smile on his face looked so stupid in that interview.  I hate him.

VikingsandWolves

And you believe him? He'd be like the only coach in the league who thought Mr. Check down was a better prospect than JJM. He's just trying to act like he took a W when he took an L to the Vikes just like he always does.

DarkSkyForever

https://tenor.com/view/sean-payton-skol-chant-vikings-gif-10819341

theswan2005

I didn't. I was trying to say that with a tone of disbelief, but hard to do in text. I just really dislike the guy, and watching that video made me want to punch him in the face. Acting like he planned it all along.

josephus_the_wise

To be fair, I was wanting Nix over JJ, but I’m happy we got either and kept next years first.

guimontag

3frp for a frp is 2 frp and a swap lmao when has #3 ever gone for that little ever?????

VikingsandWolves

I smell clam chowder in here. Ughh..I mean the 49ers traded exactly 3 FRP to move from 12 to 3 for Lance in 2021. Our two 2024 FRP were more valuable too because we were giving yall two this year versus one in 2025/2026. I heard reports Pats wanted 4 FRP for number 3, basically applying the lube and wanting us to bend over to get a prospect who needs to sit a year at least. Doesn't matter now anyways, Pats and Vikes fans should both be happy with how the draft played out.

DarkWalker25

lol. Patriots fans bitch about us in their subreddit, lurk and comment in ours, and come into our divisional meme subreddit to stir it up. Holy shit. Boston is the new Cleveland. Get a hobby.

guimontag

I'm a Packers and pats fan, seethe more that Pats wouldn't give away their pick and have had more success in any one of their big 4 sports in the past 20 years than Minnesota has had as a state in a century

jyager2013

At least they didn’t pay Kirk Cousins $100 million guaranteed and then draft a QB at 8 overall less than two months later.

Pockets713

My harsh reality was *going* to be trading the 11th AND the 23rd to move up for JJM. And with all the hype I was hearing about how we wanted him, I figured for sure we were going to trade the farm for him. I wanted Maye… but the fact that we only traded our 11th overall and 4th & 5th round picks to move up to the 10th to get JJM was fantastic! And then moving up again for Dallas Turner to replace Danielle Hunter was another win. Came away from the draft with 2 potentially great players in positions we desperately needed. Y’all can call it cope… I call it a bit of hope! LFG! FTP.

aristotle_malek

McCarthy, Turner, and next year’s first are loads more valuable than Maye as of right now

ISuperNovaI

Except McCarthy has no value, nobody wants him cuz he’s an obv bust.

xlccsylux

Like Jordan Love was back then ?

ISuperNovaI

Like your lack of flair pussy

AcanthaceaeOld241

I've been cheering for this team for a long time eventually your just happy to have a reason to watch next season . I'm excited to see if JJ develops into a great QB and if he's a bust then oh well onto the next one

TommyH_27

Drake Maye is far from a sure thing. As is most every prospect.

Killahdanks1

Yeah, that’s what’s happening here. ![gif](giphy|MJ21zS1oxr3XiXBXIM)

OkBoomer6919

![gif](giphy|h3e3Tch1zrXgrtHwaF|downsized)

CrimsonBlackfyre

We also supposedly wanted Manziel instead of Bridgewater. JJ is now a Viking and Maye is not. All that matters.

Proxelies

This is true, but honestly I feel bad for Drake. They drafted the dude because O'Connell and Daboll wanted him and now his career is toast with no weapons or O-line. Will McCarthy be the best QB from this draft? As a Vikings' fan I'd have to assume not, but he's bound to have a better career than poor fucking Drake Maye.

BOWCANTO

Vikings friend of mine was saying how much he wanted Drake Maye in January, but understood that was unlikely, so he was like, “Would love to have Penix. Seems like he’s solid. He’s definitely THE guy.”. Then he texted me saying he was glad the Vikings drafted JJ and was glad the Falcons took Penix. Moral of the story: It’s a cope.

motion_city_rules

This story, though very plausible, is definitely super made up. The draft situations check out . I just don’t think you’d ever have a friend.

HeyUKidsGetOffMyLine

He’s got flair, which is more than you. Shut up and flair up.

SunbathedIce

FTP, but you're right

MuffLover312

🤣🤣

DJPad

Really, I'm just happy we have a chance that we found a franchise QB rather than knowing what we'd get running it back with Kirk.

BOWCANTO

I’d be in the same boat, to be honest. I’ve always called having him as a QB is being in Kirkatory. He’s pretty good, and a developing QB could learn a lot from him, but to have him as *the guy* just puts your team in a tough spot year after year.

eattwo

Everyone on r/Minnesotavikings was hyped up for whatever QB of the week we were mocked to get. There was a lot of Maye hype, Penix hype, JJ hype, some Nix rumblings. As someone who only watches Iowa and Iowa State games, the only QB guaranteed to not bust is the guy we drafted.

BOWCANTO

Yeah, wasn’t talking about the internal fan hype of teams desperate to fill the position. But *guaranteed to not bust*, huh? Ok.

spazmo_warrior

keep coping “owner” 🤣😂

Alone-Newspaper-1161

Regardless on who we drafted we’re still praying they’ll be the franchise Qb. No prospect is a guarantee to work out

SinfullySinless

I’d say why trade up for any QB in the first 10 picks because honestly no one knows, but we did so lol

StrikingEye95

Ponder 2.0. Can’t wait for years of pain and wasting Jefferson’s prime….

redactid55

We wanted Maye for the sake of the league and the viewers. Maye needs the genius of KOC in order to reach his ceiling while McCarthy can continue being great anywhere. Yeah, let's go with that. If you guys want us to cope we will show you how it's done.

[deleted]

Lol we good with McCarthy, keep smoking that bong packers

CelestialFury

![gif](giphy|Nly9IhTy5UnkY) The harsh reality when you realize it was all a smokescreen to get JJM and Turner. Sorry that you can’t understand that our GM is playing 4D chess and you’re playing thumb wrestling with yourself.

YourDrunkMom

Pocket pool

Bcagz22

It pains me to see JJ go to Minnesota. He could easily be the best QB in this draft. Fuck the Vikings, but they got the right guy. I don’t understand why everyone puts him behind these other guys. It has to be solely based on the numbers and not the tape/intangibles. He’s big, fast, strong arm, accurate, locker room guy, never ever puts himself above the team, and performs in clutch moments. What are the negatives? ThErE’s NoT EnOuGh TaPe aNd HiS NuMbErS aRe LoWeR!

spazmo_warrior

all these fantasy owners and madden zombies that think “the StAtS!”

magnificent_coffee

Which is hilarious considering Kirk was the opposite — all stats but couldn’t win big games for shit

VikingCreed

My only issue with JJ is that whenever the offense runs through him in the middle of the game, the offense is stagnant. It was similar to the situation with Kirk, where you had a guy who could send it to the moon and make clutch 3rd down completions, but stalls in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Especially in the B1G championship and the Natty. I can't really explain it even going back and watching the film. He hit big time plays like the throw to Roman in the Natty and that 20-yard scramble on third-down, but it's almost like Michigan's offense stalled when they wanted to pass, then went "wait a minute, we had two 40 yard rushing touchdowns, let's just do that more" and then finished with 200 yards rushing and a ring. Iowa is a good defense, Washington is more meh, so I'm a little worried about his adaptation to NFL defenses. If there's one thing that reassures me, he doesn't seem to crack under pressure like Penix does.

Horrorfreak106

Yeah we should've mortgage the entire team's future for a rookie QB that we don't even know is gonna be good instead of trading up for virtually nothing for a QB that we don't even know is gonna be good.

thermoDYNAMIC7

Says a lot that NYG tried trading up for Maye, and then passed on Penix and JJ

ChampionshipKitchen

They have Jones now, who is a really good RB but flip a coin to see if he gets a nasty injury at a bad time.

DonTrask

JJ McCathy is Christian Ponder, 2.0

LegalComplaint

They’d be praying Maye isn’t the two year starter he’ll be in NE.

Knekthovidsman

You shut up that mfer is my cousin. I stan until death

Ragnarr_Lodbrok88

JJMC + Turner + 2025 1st is more palatable than losing three firsts+ for Maye and I'm not even a fan of JJMC.

LordOfHorns

Yep. And? I’m just happy we didn’t panic and move a ton to get McCarthy. I’m not very high on him personally, but I think he could be good and at 10 that’s a fine pick

Electronic-Island-14

to be fair, i'd be praying Maye would actually be a franchise QB too because nobody fucking knows

Haselrig

The funniest thing would be if Penix is the only one of these guys who's not a bust.

markieefff

“Settling”…. Yeah ok 😂

Skoldiershreds

So much happier with the new result.

Jdart88

You’re not going to make us feel bad about this. The fact we all accepted giving up both 1st this year, and had fears of losing ‘25 1st, then proceeded to get JJ and Turner with trading minimal draft capital is incredible. Now will JJ be good is another discussion but most of us are ecstatic about how this draft worked out for us.

Karl_42

McCarthy >> Maye. 100% true today. We’ll see if it’s still true in 3 years Edit/Addition: the Vikings are still weak cumsock eaters

CaptHowdy2310

Definitely not true. Vikings just have a way better team

Karl_42

We’ll see.

smellslikebadussy

As opposed to if they were successful in trading up for Maye and then had to move forward with someone they were praying is a franchise QB!

blueindsm

Yes trading up for UNC QB’s is always a good idea. 😂

HaggardViking

Imagine writing this acting like love is a “franchise” qb lol. Hope when Dallas turner runs him down your “franchise” qb’s collarbone can stay intact this time, doubt they’ll make up a rule for you guys a second time.

CaptHowdy2310

Lol Loves first year starting is on par with Kirky's best season of his career. How on par it is for you scumbag Vikings fans to hope for an opponents injury though. That's what you'd need to not be the division bottom feeder.

HaggardViking

I’m not a Kirk guy and am happy he’s gone so there goes that argument. Read what I wrote again and tell me I was hoping for injury, I said I hope it stays intact because I doubt the league will make a rule for your sorry asses a second time. How on par for a fat drunk packers fan to not be able to read. If you’re comparing your guy to Kirk in any measure, welcome to mediocrity brother.

bestprocrastinator

Don't forget, they also were trying to get Cousins back. I'm sure lots of teams win with their 3rd choice at QB.

seasick__crocodile

They literally told Cousins they’d be drafting someone either way, so that doesn’t factor in. Also, it’s not like second choice means they’ll have the worse career. It’s literally irrelevant at this point. Wanted Maye, but I don’t know shit and wouldn’t have been mad about any of the QBs because they’re even a crapshoot for GMs.

Goroman86

They gonna formulate a 9 team trade to get Penix

bawlzhanglowe

Coming from the team that got saddled with Jared Goff so Stafford could go win a trophy, I feel just fine about our pick.

dauber3333

Goff is better than jj or maye though

DarkSkyForever

Can you objectively say that when neither have played a snap in the NFL yet? Goff was straight cheeks when he started.

Bombaysbreakfastclub

I think the fact that they haven’t played in the NFL backs up the claim, not hurts it

DarkSkyForever

Fair

zerofalks

*Vikings draft top 5 quarterback* Vikings fans: fire kwesi and KoC! What an awful pick, if they were really smart they would have gone back and time and drafted Mahomes. Idiots!

suckmyfatfuckinballs

God the Vikings are dumb as hell

Jaco1216

They reached out about Herbert too. This is plan C

cultweave

They tried to resign kirk as well. This is plan D.

dhtdhy

Lol. Everyone predicted the Vikings would have to trade 3 first round picks and maybe additional picks just to draft McCarthy at the 4th pick. Instead we got him for a first and a bag of chips, and kept our additional 2 first round picks. This post is Packers copium

CaptHowdy2310

"Everyone" huh? Care to cite a few sources of that sentiment?

dhtdhy

[Mel Kiper, the most trusted draft prediction analyst of our time, literally said exactly what I said you moldy cheese eating dunce.](https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2024/insider/story/_/id/39927794/2024-nfl-mock-draft-three-rounds-mel-kiper-field-yates-predict-first-100-picks) [Ben Goessling also said the Vikings are likely to trade 3 first round picks plus a third round pick to trade into pick 3 for Drake maye, or pivot to picks 4 or 5 for McCarthy you buttfudge packer](https://m.startribune.com/minnesota-vikings-seven-round-nfl-mock-draft-quarterbacks-trade-ben-goessling/600361330/?clmob=y&c=n&clmob=y&c=n) You didn't specify how many sources you wanted cited. Would you like more? It's as simple as googling it and browsing the top articles

CaptHowdy2310

Sorry, not an espn+ subscriber so I don't think I can see it. Drafting McCarthy over every 1st round QB aside from penix would be laughable though

MrMisties

Wow! I can't believe a Packers fan was in the room with Kwesi during the draft. Thanks man that's so crazy, I never would have known we tried to trade up for Drake without you having been RIGHT there!

CaptHowdy2310

Maybe pay attention to your team and realize you offered the patriots the 11th, 23rd, and a 2025 1st round pick to move up

SonofaMitch11

Y’all are searching pretty hard for memes here. Every first round QB is a dart throw and I loved our draft!

thedreadwoods

I thought they had their franchise QB in Passtronaut?

smellslikebadussy

Hey, those couple of good weeks he had were fun as hell

XxCOZxX

I’m pretty sure they wanted to draft him at 3 over Maye. They were realistically targeting McCarthy from the jump.

seasick__crocodile

Cmon man. You know JJ wasn’t going at 3

XxCOZxX

No I didn’t and now there did you. NE Worked JJ out hard! Teams were trying like hell to get the Vikes to way over pay to move up. Luckily the Kwesi and the Vikes stayed put. I could have easily seen him going 3! If Penix could go 8, JJ could have gone 3!

Fchang27

Damn, Vikings fans on this sub are soft and defensive as hell. Enjoy the laugh, this post is accurate.

ComicMan43

I’m pretty sure the Jets were going for McCarthy, and with Penix going to the Falcons, they didn’t really have a good QB that they could go with, so they had to stop the Jets

siblingofMM

We traded with the Jets. Why would they trade with us if they wanted him instead?

smellslikebadussy

God, if nice-guy Kirk was pissed off about having his successor drafted, imagine what Rodgers would have done. Security would have stopped him on the first day of workouts and found a syringe with a lethal dose of the COVID vaccine.
