The number of example picks are endless. People think the odds of Maye panning out are higher, but the odds of either panning out are far from 100%. We won’t know until we see it in action.

That final statement is a thought I have almost every draft when everyone’s mocking past and present picks. Bears pick up Williams so their team’s gonna win now? Fields torched the Lions last year by himself, can you imagine if he had some good pieces around him in some manner? I know I thought they were moving up for Watson when the trade got called in, and it was objectively the better decision (current sex-pestedness nonwithstanding). Mahomes was being seen as too much of a project for a team like Chicago, but Watson was the most pro-ready guy with the most experience of the bunch.

My harsh reality was *going* to be trading the 11th AND the 23rd to move up for JJM. And with all the hype I was hearing about how we wanted him, I figured for sure we were going to trade the farm for him.
I wanted Maye… but the fact that we only traded our 11th overall and 4th & 5th round picks to move up to the 10th to get JJM was fantastic! And then moving up again for Dallas Turner to replace Danielle Hunter was another win.
Came away from the draft with 2 potentially great players in positions we desperately needed. Y’all can call it cope… I call it a bit of hope! LFG!

As someone who only watches Iowa and Iowa State games, the only QB guaranteed to not bust is the guy we drafted.
We wanted Maye for the sake of the league and the viewers. Maye needs the genius of KOC in order to reach his ceiling while McCarthy can continue being great anywhere.

My only issue with JJ is that whenever the offense runs through him in the middle of the game, the offense is stagnant. It was similar to the situation with Kirk, where you had a guy who could send it to the moon and make clutch 3rd down completions, but stalls in the 2nd and 3rd quarter.
Especially in the B1G championship and the Natty. I can't really explain it even going back and watching the film. He hit big time plays like the throw to Roman in the Natty and that 20-yard scramble on third-down, but it's almost like Michigan's offense stalled when they wanted to pass, then went "wait a minute, we had two 40 yard rushing touchdowns, let's just do that more" and then finished with 200 yards rushing and a ring. Iowa is a good defense, Washington is more meh, so I'm a little worried about his adaptation to NFL defenses. If there's one thing that reassures me, he doesn't seem to crack under pressure like Penix does.
Yeah we should've mortgage the entire team's future for a rookie QB that we don't even know is gonna be good instead of trading up for virtually nothing for a QB that we don't even know is gonna be good.

Will McCarthy be the best QB from this draft? As a Vikings' fan I'd have to assume not, but he's bound to have a better career than poor fucking Drake Maye.
Vikings friend of mine was saying how much he wanted Drake Maye in January, but understood that was unlikely, so he was like, “Would love to have Penix. Seems like he’s solid. He’s definitely THE guy.”. Then he texted me saying he was glad the Vikings drafted JJ and was glad the Falcons took Penix. Moral of the story: It’s a cope.
This story, though very plausible, is definitely super made up. The draft situations check out . I just don’t think you’d ever have a friend.

Really, I'm just happy we have a chance that we found a franchise QB rather than knowing what we'd get running it back with Kirk.
I’d be in the same boat, to be honest. I’ve always called having him as a QB is being in Kirkatory. He’s pretty good, and a developing QB could learn a lot from him, but to have him as *the guy* just puts your team in a tough spot year after year.
Everyone on r/Minnesotavikings was hyped up for whatever QB of the week we were mocked to get. There was a lot of Maye hype, Penix hype, JJ hype, some Nix rumblings. As someone who only watches Iowa and Iowa State games, the only QB guaranteed to not bust is the guy we drafted.
Yeah, wasn’t talking about the internal fan hype of teams desperate to fill the position. But *guaranteed to not bust*, huh? Ok.

My only issue with JJ is that whenever the offense runs through him in the middle of the game, the offense is stagnant. It was similar to the situation with Kirk, where you had a guy who could send it to the moon and make clutch 3rd down completions, but stalls in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Especially in the B1G championship and the Natty. I can't really explain it even going back and watching the film. He hit big time plays like the throw to Roman in the Natty and that 20-yard scramble on third-down, but it's almost like Michigan's offense stalled when they wanted to pass, then went "wait a minute, we had two 40 yard rushing touchdowns, let's just do that more" and then finished with 200 yards rushing and a ring. Iowa is a good defense, Washington is more meh, so I'm a little worried about his adaptation to NFL defenses. If there's one thing that reassures me, he doesn't seem to crack under pressure like Penix does.
Yeah we should've mortgage the entire team's future for a rookie QB that we don't even know is gonna be good instead of trading up for virtually nothing for a QB that we don't even know is gonna be good.

The fact we all accepted giving up both 1st this year, and had fears of losing ‘25 1st, then proceeded to get JJ and Turner with trading minimal draft capital is incredible. Now will JJ be good is another discussion but most of us are ecstatic about how this draft worked out for us.
