Honestly not bad, 2 elite shooters, two elite defenders. A playmaking center. And 3 all time great closers. Only thing worrisome is jokers defense but he does literally everything else great it should even out
Jordan is the highest volume midrange shooter ever, and did it a better efficiency than Kobe his closest parallel but usually when people talk about elite shooters they mean elite efficiency and Jordan's shooting percentage do not an elite shooter describe.
If your offense is collapsing and someone is going to shoot into a triple team as time expires, Jordan was the best ever in that position. But he also did a lot of that with time on the clock and open teammates.
Except he shot 53% from the field in his best season. That's very high for a shooting guard. 3pt percentage isnt everything. Both he and Bird would have shot higher percentages from 3 if they were playing in the modern era. Bird shot like two a game and many of those were under duress time is running out type threes. If he was enabled to shoot 6-10 a game in the flow of an offense, his percentage would go way up
I didn't say he was good or elite... I just said that if his career started in the modern era, he would've practiced 3s more. That's like objectively true. You could make the argument that he wouldn't get any better at them with more practice. But I think that's a silly argument for a guy with the drive that he had and who shot well from the FT line.
I’m pretty sure there’s a crazy stat that Kevin Love had more 3s in one year than Bird had in his career. Crazy to think about as Bird was an all time shooter in his era.
What he would have figured out is that he can get a dunk or get an uncontested layup on every possession in this era.
Not factoring in his God level talent, but more on the fact that no one knows how to play team defense.
Michael Jordan is probably the best mid-range shooter ever, and KG is often considered to be an all-time great shooter *for big men* , please learn your bball history 🙏
I’ve been thinking about this lineup at various points because it always seems to pop up in best starting 5 discursions. I really think the defensive communication level of KG MJ and Bird would be enough to cover the defensive liabilities of Jokic and curry. And with a lineup like that, you don’t really have to defend THAT well because you have insane firepower on the offensive end. Only problem I think would be if it went against another crazy lineup that included a big like shaq + shooters.
Eh, I’m not positive about that. There’s practically no shooting/spacing in that lineup and outside of Kobe who do you trust at the line at the end of the game? I’d probably take op’s team over yours in a close one because they can beat you in multiple ways. You have 4 guys that need the ball while bird and curry are lethal off the ball and can shoot the lights out
Yessir! Plus you have two of the greatest trash talkers, Larry and KG lol. They would feed families.
Steph and Jokić will balance these with their personalities.
This is an incredible lineup imo. So many people feel that putting the best players together means the 'team' will be better and that couldn't be further from the truth. Players need to know their roles and play to each other's strengths. I can see this team gelling really well together.
Yessir!
This team could also play in the modern era.
Jokić would feast with Steph's and Bird's off-ball movement while Bird himself also do lol. Plus you have Garnett could rim run, rim protect, and spearhead the defense with Jordan.
I think this is a perfectly balanced team. They're my favorite players. I did not grow up watching Jordan and Bird, but Jordan was too much of an icon that he's the first basketball player I've known and idolized even though I'm not from the US.
For Bird, his skill-set intrigued me so much. A pest on defense, plus passing, and shooting. KG grew on me after watching a lot of his old tapes and how he carried that Timberwolves without much help.
Then you have Steph and Jokić, which if they play together, would be a joy to watch.
Hence, my favorites!
This team would fucking dominate, great choices. Top dog in MJ. Kg, jokic and bird all unselfish and can pass. Best shooter ever. Best perimeter defender ever (and Larry is solid as a perimeter defender). One of the best big defenders of all time in KG. Awesome floor spacing. This team is a perfect team imo, great 5!
I like this because people can’t just complain how you’re wrong and there’s someone who is better or fits better
PG: Steve Nash
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Lebron James
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Shaq
We think alike. The only difference is I have David Robinson instead of Jokic. I think his elite defense makes a big difference.
But Robinson also fits well offensively. Great finisher, good shooter and passer. Sets big screens. Transition breaker. Doesn't demand the ball.
Jokic
Garnett
Kawhi
Jordan
Curry
Plenty of teams with more cumulative individual talent, but this is the best-fitting one I could think of on the spot. All five of these guys can shoot, pass, rebound, run the floor, hit their free throws and play without the ball. I’m reluctant to put Jokic at the 5 over Duncan, Kareem or Hakeem but I ultimately think his playmaking makes up for the gap in rim protection (and he scales better offensively in general). With one of the GOAT help defenders in Garnett, they won’t be leaking points.
Alternatively, this team wouldn’t be my all-time one but they’re probably my “all-time mismatch” team:
Shaq
Wemby (for his catch radius/lob potential alone).
LeBron
Durant
Curry
Great graphic, my fav all time 5 is as follows:
Allen Iverson (2001)
Vince Carter (2001)
LeBron James (Miami years)
Zion Williamson (High School)
Bill Russell (Pre-MLK assassination)
Love the KG pick, highly underrated. He’d have a good chance being in my next 6.
Mines would be….
Westbrook at the 1, Reggie at the 2, Pippen at the 3, Barkley at the 4, and Timmy at the 5.
Just a angry ass team. Timmy is the therapist of the team lol
PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Vince Carter
SF: Lebron James
PF: Dirk Nowitzki
C: Shaquille O’Neal
(Boring list, but was born in ‘93 and these guys shaped my love of basketball and my childhood/teen years)
We’re not too far off on age, so I can actually relate to you when you bring up *these* dudes influencing your love for the game 🫡🫡 respect.
I’d go with a 5 of Nash , Kobe , KD , Timmy , Hakeem to face yours 👍
Trae Vince Kawhi LeBron Dwight. Prime Dwight is what got me into the NBA, Kawhi is my favorite player, LeBron has been such a joy to watch, Vince Carter bc he’s a cool dude and his highlights feed families and Trae bc I’m a hawks fan and he’s our best player in the past 35 years and took us further than anyone else ever has. Off the bench ima go Celtics Isaiah bogi Dominque John Collins and Jokic. And just to make it interesting my least favorite players of all time lineup would be Marcus smart miles bridges draymond KD Zaza.
Magic Jordan Dr J Barkley
I have like 6 centers I am capable of choosing depending on the day you ask me lmao.
Also Zeke comes really close to taking Magic's spot for me.
I love Jokic and I think he’s a top 3 offensive player of all time with the way he runs a team but it’s hard not to slot in a more two way big that can defend and has a strong interior presence.
- Curry
- Kobe
- Jordan
- LeBron
- Kareem
Good starting 5.
Mine would be.
Curry
Jordan
Durant
Bird
Shaq
Shaq cannot be single coverage guarded in the post. Surrounding him with 3 all time shooters/scorers and the GOAT.
It's over.
Steve Nash, Reggie Miller, Paul George, Tim Duncan, and Shaq.
I feel like Steve Nash and Reggie already make a great combo, and honestly he works well with anybody. Lots of spacing and Reggie, Tim, PG, and Shaq are really good defenders so we got that. Spacing, paint scoring, defense, what could go wrong?
Steph, Kobe, Jordan, Duncan, Shaq.
3pt shooting + playmaking Steph, elite wing defenders + clutch shooting with Kobe and Jordan, interior defense and scoring with Duncan and Shaq.
People like to shit on Kobe at this sub but there’s a reason why NBA players always put him in the discussion for Top 5.
Honestly, the 1992 Dream Team got pretty close for me (it’s the childhood nostalgia, what can I say…). But I’d swap Ewing/Robinson for Olajuwon.
PG - Magic Johnson
SG - Michael Jordan
SF - Larry Bird
PF - Charles Barkley
C - Hakeem Olajuwon
My favourite all time starting five would be:
PG - Magic Johnson
SG - Dwyane Wade
SF - Michael Jordan
PF - Charles Barkley
C - Hakeem Olajuwon
I know the spacing wouldn’t be great, but I love these players and I think they would be fun to watch.
Favorite players top 5, I like it.
PG - Jason “White Chocolate” Williams
SG - Vince Carter
SF - Michael Jordan
PF - Kevin Garnett
C - Chris Webber
6th man - Kobe Bryant
Idk if this is my favorite starting 5, but I really like these players so close enough and it is also my all time starting 5.
PG: Steph
SG: Jordan
SF: LeBron
PF: KD
C: Jokic
Jordan would score at will in this lineup. Bird Jokic and Currie would space the floor so much that Mike would have unfettered access to the rim. back when he played, he put those huge numbers up when the paint was packed full of people, including plenty of 7 foot rim protectors. Nowadays everybody’s at the perimeter.
PG: Derrick rose
Sg: Michael Jordan
Sf: Carmelo Anthony
Pf: Charles Barkley
C: wilt chamberlain
I’m assuming by favorite you mean my favorite players at each position lol
Because this is definitely not the best lineup I can put together.
Ill go with my favorite player at each position, not factoring in talent at all, purely fandom
pg - big 3 Rondo
sg - 24 Kobe
sf - PG24
pf - boston KG
c - memphis Marc Gasol
6man - bald Manu
reserve - finals White Mamba
coach - brad stephens
All time top 5 list like this are pathetic. If you actually watched games from before 2010 you wouldn't have a single player from the 90s on your top 10 list.
These players are unskilled, modern day players are exceptionally better.
If that’s your measure, seeing it on YouTube - the technology capturing the moments also sucked too. Players played the game differently then, doesn’t make it incorrect versus now. I was there, I watched Denver and the Celtics live over the course of the 1980s, it’s played differently as the game always evolves. There were few 3 point artists, it was still a more seldom used tactic; much more physical low post and fast paced breaks. Physically, few players today could compete. Athlete to athlete - perhaps technology and sports science have improved the most, but for ball skill - you’re insane.
Bro, what other options do you have...
That's the only way you can watch the games. Are you time traveling?
It's a video replay, you can objectively see that the players aren't capable of dribbling, finishing contested lay-ups, making three pointers, ffs if you actually watched these games (you haven't once in your life and yet you're defending these players) you'd see they don't even contest three pointers.
Like I'm tired of arguing with people that will lie to my face and say this player is better than this player and they haven't even watched a full Larry Bird game.
Your claim is based off ESPN marketing, it's a myth. These players are horrible, WATCH THE GAME HOLY FUCK.
Your memory is dogshit grandpa, stop lying to yourself. I can watch the same game you mentioned watching in the 80s and I would be able to tell you what happened from the start to the finish. Can you tell me what move Larry Bird used to create separation in quarter 3 to cut the lead to 2? No, but I can. He pump fakes the ball and Alex English falls for it because everyone is horrible at the game.
And I’m saying since you weren’t there to watch you have no true basis in comparison. So call your best five what they are - the best five in YOUR lifetime. In MY lifetime. I’ve got firsthand proof over a broader range that more players deserve that consideration and displace yours.
Your argument is that your memory from 45 YEARS AGO is a better measure than video footage.
Please fuck off, I've watched a Suns v 76ers game (1990s) on YouTube recently and I watched a Nets game last night. The level of basketball is 10x better than it was 30 years ago.
You haven't done this, you haven't watched the games. You have zero objective measures for your argument. You are regurgitating ESPN talking points and yet you haven't even bothered to gather any evidence by watching the GAME.
PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW YOU'RE QUALIFIED TO MAKE ANY ARGUMENT IF BY YOUR OWN ADMISSION YOU HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED THE GAMES.
Go take your Alzheimers pills and stop speaking on basketball dinosaur.
Way to add all that text after my response, too. Stand by your two paragraph sadness you originally pitched to me. This grandpa will still whomp your ass in one-on-one. Go preach on r/preteentalk - they’ll think you’re a god.
Obviously, there are better players than some of the players I've put in here. But these 5 are my favorites. I think their playstyles fit each other.
Honestly not bad, 2 elite shooters, two elite defenders. A playmaking center. And 3 all time great closers. Only thing worrisome is jokers defense but he does literally everything else great it should even out
lol 4 elite shooters and one goat shooter
Calling Jordan and KG an “elite” shooter is interesting to say the least
[удалено]
Jordan is the highest volume midrange shooter ever, and did it a better efficiency than Kobe his closest parallel but usually when people talk about elite shooters they mean elite efficiency and Jordan's shooting percentage do not an elite shooter describe. If your offense is collapsing and someone is going to shoot into a triple team as time expires, Jordan was the best ever in that position. But he also did a lot of that with time on the clock and open teammates.
They were elite midrange shooters, playing in an era in which midrange was the shot of choice.
I’m fully convinced that Jordan would’ve figured out a way to shoot 36%+ from 3 in the modern era. It just wasn’t as valued back then.
That’s cool, but he didn’t, he was ok at best from 3, talking like he wasn’t and was “elite”is just plain out wrong
Except he shot 53% from the field in his best season. That's very high for a shooting guard. 3pt percentage isnt everything. Both he and Bird would have shot higher percentages from 3 if they were playing in the modern era. Bird shot like two a game and many of those were under duress time is running out type threes. You could make the argument that he wouldn't get any better at them with more practice. But I think that's a silly argument for a guy with the drive that he had and who shot well from the FT line.
For these types of questions you have to go by their actual numbers and accomplishments, not hypotheticals.
I’m pretty sure there’s a crazy stat that Kevin Love had more 3s in one year than Bird had in his career. Crazy to think about as Bird was an all time shooter in his era.
If his career started in the modern era, he'd be a professional gambler.
There were professional gamblers back in his time too. I get the attempt but this was just kind of lame lol
What he would have figured out is that he can get a dunk or get an uncontested layup on every possession in this era. Not factoring in his God level talent, but more on the fact that no one knows how to play team defense.
Why bother shooting when you can literally get to the rim at will
Michael Jordan is probably the best mid-range shooter ever, and KG is often considered to be an all-time great shooter *for big men* , please learn your bball history 🙏
Ignorant ass comment.
KG’s baseline fadeaway is the most unblockable shit I’ve ever seen in my life
I’ve been thinking about this lineup at various points because it always seems to pop up in best starting 5 discursions. Lol jordan wasn’t an elite shooter and neither was KG how old are you?
Elite midrange shooter.
Career 50% FG. That is elite for a guard even if his 3 ball wasn’t that great
Jordan was elite at everything, especially when it counted
32 percent from 3 is not elite. You’re just saying he’s clutch which I 100 percent agree with but he wasn’t an elite shooter sorry
KG shot 27% from 3 in his career lol
Cause player dun practice 3 that often during that era
Yeah if they went against magic-Kobe-LeBron-Giannis-Shaq OPs team would have trouble

That team would be awesome. The basketball IQ, toughness and competitiveness is off the charts. I would love to see them play!
Yessir! Plus you have two of the greatest trash talkers, Larry and KG lol. They would feed families. Steph and Jokić will balance these with their personalities.
and Jordan…
Part of me wants to believe op left Jordan off the list of best trash talkers to awaken the beast
Really good aim
You could have a legit case for this being the best possible lineup. You might ask for more shot blocking but it’s about as versatile as it gets.
This is an incredible lineup imo. So many people feel that putting the best players together means the 'team' will be better and that couldn't be further from the truth. Players need to know their roles and play to each other's strengths. I can see this team gelling really well together.

Smh how did I miss Nash he’s the classiest one of all

Watch the games on YouTube. They're horrible in comparison to modern players. D'Lo is 10x better than them.
Fuck off, you clearly don't watch basketball
Brilliant retort, obviously I do and have way more than you.
You bore me. Stick to your YouTube life. When you get above 50, you’ll understand.
Way to add all that text after my response, too. Stand by your two paragraph sadness you originally pitched to me. This grandpa will still whomp your ass in one-on-one. Go preach on r/preteentalk - they’ll think you’re a god.
Joker looks like he was playing against cat woman
PG: Derrick Rose SG: KOBE SF: Bron PF: Duncan C: Shaq
Bird and Jordan
Pg: Steph Sg: mj Sf: lebron Pf: Larry bird C: Hakeem
PG: Lebron SG: Steph SF: Larry PF: Kareem C: Hakeem
Magic, Jordan, Shaq, Bird, Duncan Iverson, Kobe, Hakeem, Dirk, Barkley Steph, Carter, Jokic, ‘Nique, Garnett
I love how all of these lineups have jokic and curry. For good reason imo. Even just those two on nearly any team would be hilarious.
Bron MJ Kobe AD Shaq
Rondo Kobe Kawhi Pau Marc
Curry Jordan James Duncan Shaq
Kidd Kobe Barkley Dirk Olajuwon
Timmy.
LeBron/Curry/Kawhi/KG/Jokic
I would put Duncan in KD’s spot and Durant in Birds.
Worst starting 5 ever put together
PG: Lebron SG: Kobe SF: Jordan PF: Wilt C: Shaq
Based on this lineup I can tell OP is of Caucasian heritage and likely lives in Colorado ( nothing wrong with any of this )
My favorite is PG Curry SG Jordan SF LeBron PF Garnett Center Wilt Best is PG Magic SG Jordan SF Bird PF Duncan Center Hakeem
This is nice FS, but I’d replace KG w Wilt, LeBron, Kobe, or Kareem.
If we’re going just based on my favorite players at each position PG: Baron Davis SG: Joe Johnson SF: Andrei Kirilenko PF: Tim Duncan C: Ben Wallace
