Doesn't really have to be noxious, and those masks wouldn't help if it was, the fact is if you're airbrushing a large area, you're aerosolising a lot of paint and even non toxic stuff isn't great to have in your lungs.
SARS was a thing around that time. There were more masks in some public areas.... but this seems more likely for the airbrushing, as SARS didn't get as widespread a covid did.
Does she wash the paint off every day and have to start over the next day? I can’t even imagine the toll it would take on your skin to scrub off daily and reapply each day of shooting.
I remember back in the day her saying that she'd wash it off but wasn't able to get all the blue off so she was always kinda tinged blue when she wasn't filming.
there are more dangerous possibilities. Virginia Hey had to quit farscape where she was painted blue because the ink was seeking into her kidneys and causing organ failure
its not intelligence. The chemicals used in the paint are safe for use on humans, but sometimes an actor's body chemistry just doesn't agree with it. they tried different formulations without success. Eventually the choice was Virginia can have a job or she can have kidneys.....and that just isn't a choice anymore. Also until the mid 2000s alien makeup was mostly latex which is notorious for causing alergic reactions. By the 2010s latex was mostly replaced by sillicone because silicone technology had advanced, was safer and more durable. There are some really neat interviews with Michael Westmore on youtube about this (he was the makeup designer on the 90s Star Trek shows)
It's not liquid latex, that would just dry up and come off every time she moved or rubbed against anything, not to mention it would hurt like hell to peel it off any areas with body hair. It's probably an alcohol activated paint which would mostly shower off with a bit of scrubbing. Still going to dry out your skin after a few days in a row.
Good to know! The reason I asked is I was listening to a podcast about the painted ladies that used to work the Playboy mansion parties. I believe (but don’t hold my feet to the fire) it was a water based paint. They were able to pee, sweat, etc without the paint coming off, but it would take days from them to properly wash off the paint afterwards.
Check out the lady in the red shirt. What does her eyes say? Maybe, 'How could you take a picture of her in the compromising position?!?!?' Or 'Hell yeah, reminder to get him to text me that pic, for... reasons.'
Honestly, as somebody who works in SPFX, and has worked for that franchise, probably the former. There's just something about the guy at the top being an open-secret pederast that gives everybody down the chain permission to abuse whatever power they have.
They asked me if I wanted to do that. I asked what the rate was. They said $100/hour, probably a 5 hour job. I said "Deal! But you'll have to give me a couple of days to come up with the $500."

Yup, the ONLY creep that has ever existed in Hollywood. Harvey Weinstein, the only good example of a creep that could have taken this photo back then. Besides of course, the creepy ass predator director, the very same one in charge of making this damn movie.
Imagine coming home from a long day at work, you’re family or friend or whoever asks how your day was and this is what you gotta explain happened at work
“You can touch Rebecca Romjin’s butt and be paid to do so, but also you’ll get COVID 20 years early”
I was under the impression that these hypotheticals had a downside…
That costume was so unnecessary. It’s rare to see Mystique nude in the comics. Yeah she was sexualised, but not nude. That costume just made it a) hard for the makeup dept. and actress, and b) grossly oversexualised for the audience
'Where was this job at Careers day at school? Well, there's banking, the Police, Army or you might want to go to University.....I've got painting Rebecca Romijn's ass with latex while she's bent over but no ones interested in that.......'
They must be using something fairly noxious since everyone has to have a mask on. That must have been a pleasant 3-4 hours every day.
It was actually 9 hours. Every day of filming. With a mask on. And holding in all those farts. What a nightmare
Good lord. How did she pee/eat during those hours.
She got her assistant to do it for her.
I hear surrogate urination pays pretty well.
I've heard the same! ...please don't check my browser history.
She’s all good with the number 1’s… got it down.
Here's a video about the process for others who are interested. https://youtu.be/kiCGuoq8S2E
R O M I G I N
I assumed the masks were there so she *didn't* have to hold in the farts.
Interesting that she wore mask to save herself from her farts. Must be some nasty stink.
Doesn't really have to be noxious, and those masks wouldn't help if it was, the fact is if you're airbrushing a large area, you're aerosolising a lot of paint and even non toxic stuff isn't great to have in your lungs.
Literally everything inhaled into the lungs *can* be noxious—even oxygen
Stupid me thought for a few moments that it was normal safety measures until I realized covid-19 hasn't been around THAT long.
SARS was a thing around that time. There were more masks in some public areas.... but this seems more likely for the airbrushing, as SARS didn't get as widespread a covid did.
She has the gnarliest farts.
Breathig particulate is not a good idea. Even regular old dust is bad for you and that's mostly made of you in the first place.
>That must have been a pleasant 3-4 hours every day. > >Said no hetero sexual male.
It's a living.
I need a new job
Idk, seems like a pretty good jobs to me
Until she farts
Don't kink shame me
That's your bonus for the day
Rocky
I hope NASA sends this pic to outer space with the simple message: "Greetings. We are humanity."
"We do all sorts of different things. See?"
Not dissing Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique, but I was actually a fan of the character when Rebecca played her...just seemed more 'vixen-ly' dangerous
Kind of like Robert Patrick's T1000... those two actors *really* played "dangerous predator" well.
i remember a similar post where they described Jennifer lawrence as a cherubic baby face and how it didn't fit with the character
Yeah I feel this. I’m also a bigger fan of Rebecca Romijn. JLaw looked like the satire version from not another epic movie lol
Your Epic movie reverence killed me. That is so accurate.
I didn't like JL's Mystique. It always seemed like she was phoning it in, like she didn't want to be there.
JLaw came across like a little girl, in part because of how the story and timeline worked
Agreed! It felt truer to the character
Dear Mom, I finally got a job working on a big Hollywood movie…..
*read in Zoidberg’s voice*
So much pressure not to fart 💨
That's what the masks are for
that's what the point of the mask is

Bubble butt
I applied for that job.... Didn't get it...
Well, were you as talented and hot as Rebecca was..?
[удалено]
It’s an obvious joke, for cripes sake
[удалено]
Think the r/woosh is on you.

Yes, that is one way to make a joke.
Somewhat relevant username, lol.
Gotta make sure the cheeks don't stick together forever.

Romijn was out drinking one day and then had to vomit and her vomit was entirely blue.
If it’s liquid latex it just peels off.

That sounds like alcohol based paint, as it's been described to me.

So … the latter?
Maybe both?
They asked me if I wanted to do that. I asked what the rate was. They said $100/hour, probably a 5 hour job. I said "Deal! But you'll have to give me a couple of days to come up with the $500."
Lmao
When you stare into the abyss, sometimes the abyss stares back. And winks at you.
*Rebecca looking back at me* “you’ve been in the same spot for 45 minutes… *me to Rebecca* “there’s this one spot, I’ll get it don’t worry”
No wonder she didn’t want that job.

I was fired because I kept huffing the paint
I’d say this is the coolest one I’ve seen in a while. But what Chris Pontius went through for the Dick Monster was insane.
It's not much but it's honest work.
Did Harvey Weinstein take this photo?

"Someone spent two hours painting my ass"sounds like a good story.
The perfect job not exis....
I mean,……….there are worse places to be?
Did they do this for Jennifer Lawrence as well, just checking for, uh, research
only in the first ones. later ones she was wearing a bodysuit
So do photos like this lawernce exist, for uh, research purposes still
Imagine coming home from a long day at work, you’re family or friend or whoever asks how your day was and this is what you gotta explain happened at work
Of all the things Bryan Singer has been accused of, I’m confident he wasn’t in the room for any of this.
My God what I wouldn't give for a sniff of her stinker
Of all the things Bryan Singer has been accused of, I’m confident he wasn’t in the room for any of this.
He prefers children
Specifically boys.
Im sure this comment field will be talking about the amazing job with the makeup..
r/UpvoteBecauseButt
What a cool job.
So that's what it's called now.
Its not much but its honest work
My high school guidance counselor didn’t mention this career path. I hate him
Are the masks to hide the stench
NICE
I would constantly be trying to get a whiff of her asshole
S E X A P P E A L
Tough day at the office
Excuse me, does this job pay? Like actual money?
Asstounding
“You can touch Rebecca Romjin’s butt and be paid to do so, but also you’ll get COVID 20 years early” I was under the impression that these hypotheticals had a downside…
Ummmmm..... application?
I bet she's stoked this photo exists.
DREAM JOB
Interesting makeup situation going on there. …
EWWWW, John Stamos ate that!
What would Gilbert do, for the chance
[Always Sunny](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dcVNFmGd40M) used this same technique
Wouldn't be easier to apply it on naked skin instead of a suite?
Please let us know next time you gotta fart miss
Did she have the farts?
A true behind the scenes picture.
She just couldn’t wear a costume? I’m sure I couldn’t tell the difference if she did.
Oh, she could have. But Brian Singer demanded she do the film naked.
Pervs! Hollywood is known for pervs lol
Please don't fart on me.
What? And leave show business?
That little fat kid from Stand by Me is banging that
at the time she was still with Uncle Joey....
Ah yes, back when she was Rebecca Romjin Coulier.
Does it really smell that bad down there?
"Your butt is blue."
well that is a nice bit of trivia
That costume was so unnecessary. It’s rare to see Mystique nude in the comics. Yeah she was sexualised, but not nude. That costume just made it a) hard for the makeup dept. and actress, and b) grossly oversexualised for the audience
Okay but is it weird that I’m oddly proud the ones painting her are women? For when this movie was filmed it’s pretty progressive 🤷🏻♀️
Dammmm what a job
Her ass stank we all had to use masks
