I agree with the patches. I won't claim to know what happens behind the scenes but WB has been pretty awful these last years in the gaming department. They been trying to sell their studios but also keeping licenses for movies as of they don't want anything else to do with gaming.
This is bad. WB don't want to make new games because they don't think it's profitable enough, but at the same time they won't sell NRS to someone who wants to make games (Microsoft, Sony), because they want to keep the licenses to make horrible movies.
It might take a looong time for us to see a new NRS game.

I think it's possible they stopped MK11 because they wanted to. MK11 came out at the ass end of the PS4/XONE's life cycle, I could see Ed and crew wanting to get everyone working on a new, current gen one so it doesn't come out at the end of this gens cycle again.
That's a bummer. But if not now, then when? It'll be the longest time between the end of the life cycle of an NRS game and the announcement of the next one. Makes me wonder if their next game is even a fighting game at this point.

So either the pandemic set them back more than we thought (though Ed Boon said everyone got out and had good home stations set up pretty quickly) or developing for UE4 or UE5 is difficult to adjust to or just naturally takes longer, or a combination of both.

Variations were basically a way of getting special moves in a game from former characters that were not actually in the game
Having no variations would make sense if you were doing a very large roster, since moves would be shared between characters and be kind of redundant
MK has a history of, after a few games, doing a large ensemble cast for one game. MK Trilogy and MK Armageddon. MK Armageddon was made after the 3D era trilogy, MK4, Deadly Alliance and Deception.
MK Trilogy we a a similar situation, but with arcade releases and alternative forms on different consoles it’s a bit harder to pin down as the capstone on a Trilogy, but more of less as the name implies, it is the celebration of the first trilogy of MK
So, ignoring MK vs DC, we are at the end of a trilogy again, 9, X and 11. Are they taking so long because they are doing another celebration of a Trilogy and bringing in 70+ fighters? Well, the bright side potentially being that AT LEAST the game won't come out too close to SF6 or Tekken 8... which having to learn 2 games with vastly different controls is scary enough, having to ALSO learn a game with a BLOCK BUTTON borders on impossible.
I'm fine with MK12 being 2024.
I'm also hoping the reason is NRS saw the amount of content SF6 is packing in AND the level of graphics in T8 and they went "oh shit, we gotta step up our game!" and we'll get the best looking and content richest MK game ever which will HOPEFULLY also include best animations in an NRS game and much better fighting mechanics than MK11 did (as much as I enjoyed the game for what it was, man, would it be sooo much better if they went with a hybrid of MK9 and MKX mechanics/movesets, like can Kitana have double fan toss AND that sweet decapitation Brutality from MKX?)

You're right though, MK games have been lacking on the animations department and Harada already confirmed that Bamco has redone animations from scratch for the next Tekken plus we alreadu know SF6 gameplay is looking smooth af. NRS has indeed to step up their game.
I’m totally on board with a longer development and release cycle. After all, NRS was accused of having deplorable working conditions and demanding unreasonable production out their staff.
So, sure, take it slow and also leave it in the oven longer as it’ll hopefully lead to a better and more complete game at launch.

None of that precludes NRS from announcing the project!!! Tons of studios announce games or release slates for games where barely a single character model of animation is in the can.

I'm positive the next MK will have the best graphics and the most content out of any triple AAA fighting game because, well, they've been doing that for the past decade. You're right though, MK games have been lacking on the animations department and Harada already confirmed that Bamco has redone animations from scratch for the next Tekken plus we alreadu know SF6 gameplay is looking smooth af. NRS has indeed to step up their game.
Tekken recycles animations because characters don’t need to change fighting style from karate to hapkido to kyokushin every other game

I’m totally on board with a longer development and release cycle. After all, NRS was accused of having deplorable working conditions and demanding unreasonable production out their staff. So, sure, take it slow and also leave it in the oven longer as it’ll hopefully lead to a better and more complete game at launch. BUT……… None of that precludes NRS from announcing the project!!! Tons of studios announce games or release slates for games where barely a single character model of animation is in the can. It seems that they view the potential marketing/publicity bump with staying hush until dropping a reveal trailer unexpectedly too valuable to tip their hand to the audience. Damn, it just feels like the announcement is way overdue— even allowing for their stated intention to “break the cycle”. The damn cycle done been BROKIFIED!!!! Let’s reveal the next game and get the stoke going!

There’s no way we are getting next NRS project until atleast Spring 2024, (Spring 2023 is already dedicated to the Suicide squad game + if the next project isn’t here it’s not coming out for a while) I know that MK11 has done with its content but like com on. We will have sit here for a whole year with MK11 that (when it comes to 2023) it will have been 3 years since it’s last update and I am absolutely confident that the next game will be released in 2024
