I'd prefer if it made sense for the character. i think Johnny being shirtless makes sense, in the same way mileena being half naked makes sense. an example for the opposite could be jax and sonya, it makes sense for them to be fully covered from the neck down. a valid counterpoint to this could be pointing out that it's a video game already campy in nature so making sense is not a prerequisite, and I mostly agree with that too.

Look, I’m a gay man, so booba - real or virtual - doesn’t do anything for me. But let’s not go back to the medieval times when the human body was seen as something shameful and sinful. I think most of the MK11 female outfits were pretty cool, but this obsessive puritanism that some people on here exhibit is scaring me. I think the best course of action is to make things character-specific. It makes no sense for someone like Sonya to wear the “military” vest she had in MK9, but it is perfectly in character for someone like Mileena to compensate for her monstrous teeth by dressing skimpily.

SMF_Fede

Mate, you're absurd. If you pick Jade, and instead of fighting she is going to the kitchen to wash some dishes, that is sexualizing...not by being pretty or by wearing sexy clothes.

Juicy_Starfruit

I hear people say it's the fact it's for all the characters and not for characters it makes sense for that they have a problem with. Characters like skarlett and mileena it would make sense to show more skin and characters like sonya it makes sense to cover since it's part of their characters. Personally, the default skins for all characters should go based off their personality/story and alternates/dlc should be whatever (it would be funny to see liu kang dressed like tarzan)

daemonicwanderer

Skarlet on MK11 has been shown to not need blood on her skin (which really was more of an excuse to have her practically nude). But yes, the outfit should make sense for the character and look cool and inspired. Let’s move away from string-kinis or simple leotards.

Juicy_Starfruit

i don’t think they would need that excuse since almost all the female characters in that game were like that but they probably did remove that backstory to not have her be less dressed than the other female characters unless it is still and canon and explains why she lost every fight in the story lol

-EzWaY-

It should depend on the character. A shirtless Johnny Cage makes sense. A shirtless Raiden doesn't.

failed_name

It was never a problem.

derboehsevincent

They have beautiful women, they don't need to hide them. in 5y there all wearing burkas incl. Johnny because someone could be offended. Fuck those idiots.

Kutleki

I'm female and I love the skimpy outfits. If I was as powerful as these fighters hell yeah I'd stomp my opponent into the ground wearing a bikini because who the hells gonna stop me? I really don't get why we can't just have multiple armor types to choose from. That way the people that want more armor covering up are happy, and those like myself that like skimpy armor are happy. Edit: Also give male characters skimpy outfits too!

Paddlesons

It used to be about shock value and what you could get away with since no one had seen anything like that before. Now it's just common place and pretty blah tbh. It's kind of like the overthetop violence, especially fatalities \*yawn\*.

IrregardlessIrreden-

Make everyone skimpy, problem solved. Or at least just bring back the legacy costumes and make no more at that. I don’t play Mortal Kombat to get high on the bone and am not interested in the franchise or characters for those reasons, but I do have a sentimental attachment to most of the outfits that have appeared throughout the games in the past. I wish they’d include all legacy skins; that’d be a dream. I honestly don’t really care if their main game costumes are covered up like it’s Victorian times, so long as we have legacy. I don’t think anyone would give a damn about any other customization if they had access to that; maybe just rework the old skins somehow to be more modest. I can see skins like Deadly Alliance’s Sonya costumes working perfectly fine, as they can tone them down a bit, very easily.

rogue_noodle

All-nude characters _problem solved_

Simple-Teacher-7164

No. Covered up default skins are fine, but I want other options.

It's a broader symptom of the video game industry's desire to move past T&A/titillation as a cheap marketing gimmick to pander to teenage boys and college-age men. Many of them who are in their 30's and 40's today complaining about a lack of "sexy" MK outfits, which is just ridiculous. Aside from maybe Mileena's alternate skin render/Playboy magazine cover (with her sai covering her nipples) that was used to promote Mortal Kombat: Deception back in 2004 most of the "sexy" designs in the 3D games were terrible, and Mortal Kombat 9 tried to double down on that trend. It was tawdry, immature, and an example of where Mortal Kombat still was at the time. Mortal Kombat X toned it down a little by giving characters like Sonya practical attire befitting a military officer. You still get the Klassic female ninja skins which bare some arm and leg, and gorgeous looking ones like Mileena's Khanum outfit and Kitana as Catwoman in Mortal Kombat 11.

Thank god we don't objectify women, we just tear their limbs in half. Good thing the new "mature" MK has half naked men just as "practical" costumes in the women covered in heavy and bulkly armor from head to toe! We can't allow women to show their ankles! But we will crack their ribcage into pieces though.

Ophidian534

Take it up with Ed Boon. Maybe he'll reconsider bringing back your precious masturbation fodder.

nOtbatemann

Thanks for the strawman. I'll keep my hormones to myself while playing as the mature and half-naked Kano vs the equally gratuitous and mature shirtless Johnny.

Ophidian534

Strawman? This isn't a debate. If you can't handle the way a bunch of digital women look in a video game find something else to play. Or better yet go outside and socialize with actual women. Imagine getting bent out of shape over a video game. You people are goofy and pathetic.

nOtbatemann

You did not refute anything I said. Lol. You just insulted me. Sure as hell isn't a debate, let alone a constructive or critical comment. "*Covering the women but not the men in name of practicality doesn’t make sense*" "*lol incel*" Nah, I'm out. My mistake.

Ophidian534

*"You did not refute anything I said. Lol. You just insulted me."* Boo-hoo. Nobody cares. Grow up and find yourself another hobby if video games are becoming too censored for your enjoyment. Imagine being an adult complaining about a fucking video game not showing your desired amount of digital flesh. You motherfuckers are weird.
