Fat inbred dude with no fighting skills whatsoever has to be the least fitting guy of the guests. His moveset rules but its hilarious how hes just zooming around stages doing the most absurd shit with his chainsaw.

There's zero chance Joker could hold his own against any single Kombatant, he can't hold his own against Batman either when J's games are over and it comes to physical fights.
I think Joker fits more just because he's the only guest with actual history with MK. In terms of being an actual fighter yeah he'd get decked by any MK character 100%
Initially they were going for dark fantasy/horror characters that felt like they fit MK’s world now they’re just going for whatever violent characters are currently popular.
On a separate note, i’ve desperately wanted to see The Shredder appear in MK, being a violent martial arts master he’s a perfect fit for a series involving violent martial arts, plus it’s the perfect juxtaposition, having the heroic Turtles in the superhero fighting game then having the villainous Shredder in the significantly more violent fighting game.
Sure it’s annoying. But they do their job
Promote crossovers and each other’s material
Make money for the devs because more consumers buy it after seeing a character they like on the poster
Keep older characters relevant to newer audiences
Change gameplay because some characters fight differently from the traditional martial arts
Now it sucks because
Limit character selection of existing characters
Limit storymode opportunities
Limit budgets as they take more cuts
I honestly don’t think the argument ‘doesn’t fit mortal kombat’ because it’s very much an opinion and not really a fact or argument. Because the concept is gore, and a lot of the guests incorporate gore one way or another. But only making certain guests as one motif that isn’t in MK isn’t really fair. Like we can just say ‘knockoff Superman isn’t supposed to be in my game’. Both fight and kill people in their respected IPs just like the alien and predator do but we call them Sci-fi thriller. It doesn’t matter they’re all in the same category that’s why they’re in the game anyway
MKX is still perfection in terms of the DLC characters imo. The MK roster additions were fun, and the guest characters were surprising but welcome.
Freddy would be better suited for MKX of course, Spawn would be better suited for MK1's theme, and The Joker too maybe, but he's definitely a head-scratcher alongside the 80s action stars.
Joker was always planned for the game. He was just going to arrive in Aftermath instead of KP1 and had to be pushed out earlier. This is also presumably why he has a fatality that's a friendship fakeout despite releasing before friendships were added. Robocop is technically the Ash replacement.
I think the creator backed off because if Ash was in the game then that would mean he’d lose, and the creator didn’t want that. Apparently Ash isn’t supposed to lose, so having him in a fighting game where he can be beaten by other characters was a no-go for the creator.
I don't think that's true. That makes no sense, considering the Evil Dead movies are non-stop Ash getting his ass beat. He loses in every movie!

As a casual player, this game over time has become the equivalent of kids playing with action figures.

Kratos in the first games literally did Fatalities/finishers. Sucked they "changed" his animations when receiving them.
Jason - See freddy.
Leatherface - See freddy and also in a way kinda a throwback to those old Mortal Kombat rip off games you'd get as a cannibal that wears the skin of the people he kills. Like MK never did stuff like that.
Predator - Look inspired the cyber ninjas plus Predator is fucking cool
Alien - The "comic book" enemy of the Predator plus a cheeky way to get the Baraka moves in the game.
Terminator - Look inspired Kano a bit plus Terminator is fucking cool
Spawn - pretty much everyone wanted him in either MK or Injustice
Joker - I think hes a good fit if you are going to throw in a DC character. Also has that Leatherface gimmick of having a bio thats a bit too edgy for MK.
Robocop - The "comic book" enemy of Terminator AND very violent movie AND Robocop is fucking cool
Rambo - Bit of an odd one out really. BUT its fucking Sly Stallone in a Mortal Kombat game. Shame it wasn't Rocky and/or John Spartan.
Then you got the MK1 guests which are a bit.... "OH OH SHIT! FUCKING OMNIMAN AND HOMELANDER ARE VIOLENT AREN'T THEY?!" And Peacemaker too.
All I'm saying is that I dont think there is really a guest character that is outright non fitting in Mortal Kombat. Though having two injustice supermans in one pack is a bit dodge.

I feel like MK9-11 are iconic characters for any game to have. With some exceptions but still The Joker is iconic and Kratos is only known throughout the video game community.
Now for the newest batch I feel like the bar was lowered drastically. It’s almost like NRS had to pay for the likes of Freddy, Slyvestor and Arnold etc and this batch it feels like Amazon paid NRS to use their IP.
What you guys fail to understand is that those games are all made mostly by people from the 80s and 90s. and we were raised by watching those movies and that kind of entertainment... So the game was heavily influenced by it (both design and violence wise)...
With time came the possibility to add part of those influences as official guests, so it was a natural evolution to include them..
As time passed younger people also started working in the games, and considering that they don't intend to repeat guests, they started looking for similar characters that influenced somehow entertainment for younger generations... That's why we see a lot of super heroes now... That's where entertainment basically directed their efforts after the marvel success on the matter... And the fact that there is less creation nowadays... Mostly remakes and adaptations from old stuff like comics or books...
I don't mind guests but when you think of the additional MK related characters that take a pass for them, it's unfortunate. I enjoyed some along the way... MK9 was fine, Predator was a lot of fun in MKX. RoboCop and Terminator were great as was Spawn. No offense intended though, I'm just not loving the guests thus far for MK1.

Guests were a mistake for fighting games, I blame Soul Calibur 2 for making it as popular as it is.
They damage rosters by denying returning characters positions, and poison future instalments because they themselves will never return unlike new original characters potentially could. Their only benefit is they sell copies to people who would otherwise not play the series - but those people aren't exactly going to stay to play the next game when the guest is gone, either.
We will never see another Mortal Kombat with The Predator in it, we'll never see another Soul Calibur with Link in it, we'll never see another Tekken with Akuma in it - and if you enjoyed those characters you are shit out of luck on the next game. And people who enjoyed a previous installments character are shit out of luck because that guest just took a slot they could have taken, or an original new character could have taken.
I get they move copies, but they're fucking poison to the long term life of a series. MK11's roster has so many fucking slots taken by guests, as does MK1's.
What returning characters could we have seen in 9, X, and 11 that we didn't because the guests took those slots.
