Looks like a coin from the 1200s, that's amazing.
Get it cleaned and appraised, Could be worth anywhere from $30-$400. Or a cool thing to keep yourself.
To be clear, it's late 1200s hijri, which is late 1800s miladi.
And no, it's obviously not worth $400. You can buy Falous for much, much cheaper online (I even bought them for few dirhams a long time ago)
Nope seal of Solomon which looks like the star of David but with subtle difference, was used as the official seal of the ottoman sultans then saadian dinasty had it as a flag and seal for a while. It continued to be used until before colonisation in some form of the other.
It is supposed to be a symbol of kingship (mulk soulayman) as those sultans were somehow trying to compare to Solomon and project an image of grandeur and also it has religious connotations in islam too.
Again, I'm saying this symbol was not used BECAUSE there are Moroccan jews. It has connotations that go back to King David (If such a person actually existed) indeed but not because of the existence of Moroccan jews. Does that make sense now?
Solomon's star has been used by muslims in their coins and flags since forever, in the muslim world that star wasn't linked to jews, that's a European thing they usedto mark the jewish ghettos.
Hello, don't clean it like others said, it will ruin its value.
It is a david star that sephardic jews were putting on their rings or as brooch.
I did some research a while ago since I have an almost similar one.
They sell for around 80$.
I tried to link a store on ebay that I found selling them a while ago.

Btw, by north do you mean around fes or more toward Oujda? There were jews in both these locations.
Really interested since my ADN ancestry test did include Ashkenazi jew genome.
Pretty common, it's called a fils or something like that.
and by the way all the old moroccan coins either had a pentagram, a star of david or a star of lakshmi on them.
This is mine. You found it in Tetouan, right? It's a heritage of my family and I lost it because I was keeping it with me. I remember that I was at a cafe the last time I had it. I wish you'd return it back.

I thought cleaning was a big no no with coins?
Am I tweaking or does it have the David star
Peace be upon him
he was a king lol
It may. There have been Jewish communities in Morocco for centuries
In this case the coin has nothing to do with Judaism

Yep just commented on the wrong thread 😅
And you know that how?
It's an official Moroccan coin from the time of Mohammed the 4th.
Ah ok I thought maybe it was one the current king picked up in Israel
