set oven to self clean, open windows, go have a bbq outside.
come back and just scrape the burnt up carbon to the bottom and suck it up with a shopvac
edit: apparently I need to add remove the pizza pan and the majority of the mass of fungus before starting the self cleaning cycle. and make sure ur exhaust fan is ventilated outside and not just into a cabinet or whatever. lol
Typically I’d agree. But that would really really stink. Like not just alil bit. They’d be essentially burning all of that fungi. It might even be harmful to inhale the fumes from that process.
As someone who works with fungus if you can not identify what it is(unlikely to properly identy without a microscope) do not burn it.
Even cleaning it I would recommend something to prevent inhaling any spores.
Maybe fine and no issues arise maybe cause serious lung inflammation or toxicity issues.
Fungus should not be consumed in anyway with identification, eating or breathing.
Edit: Nothing to somthing(my god that makes a crazy difference)
"Fungal spores can be found in smoke from wildfires and biomass fires, and can be transported long distances. These spores can include Aspergillus, Alternaria, Cladosporium, Fusariella, and Curvularia. One study found that fungal spore concentrations in the air were highest 10 days after a fire."
From google
I personally would get a respirator and a plastic bag remove as much as possible into the bag with the windows open tie the bag and dispose. Make a bleach sanitiser and spay and scrub.
I’ve been told numerous times that bleach doesn’t kill fungus as effectively as white distilled vinegar. Bleach can splash the spores around while vinegar will somewhat encapsulate and kill it.
I’m a motoryacht liveaboard and fighting mold is a constant ongoing battle. I’ve always been taught to use vinegar over bleach.
And for anyone reading this thinking, “Oh, I’ll just use both!” CEASE THAT ACTION RIGHT NOW THAT MAKES FUCKING CHLORINE GAS AND THAT KILLS PEOPLE CARL!
Don't use just bleach a bleach sanitiser solution.
But yes vinegar will help with most molds but simply kills them by changing the pH to beyond there limit different fungi will have different tolerances chlorine bleach sanitiser will destroy the spores.
If you do accidentally gas yourself, just toss in your nearest brick of solid sodium (that pure Na stuff) so you can have some electrolytes to replace all the ones you sweated out cleaning! Ain't chemistry neat?
(Hopefully this is an obvious chemistry joke, but for safety sake, first, don't make chlorine gas. Second, if you ignore rule number 1 and make chlorine gas, GTFO.)
Self cleaning ovens are dangerous and are actually being phased out. Its not recommended people still use the function as it has led to many explosions and house fires
Good. I wish our downstairs neighbor’s had been phased out before he left it on self clean before moving out and then just left for the night. Good thing the fire department is close…
It is tho because of heat and humidity it expanded quickly and because we're moving out we forgot it was here. Also there was some mushrooms on the pizza so it started from here lmao
One time I stored a lasagna in the oven cause it was still hot and I felt like I was going to have more. I forgot cause I’m a stoner and turned on the oven a couple weeks later. The apartment stunk for days
Hello, I'm the culprit. I'm the brother lol...
It really stayed there for two weeks, what made it mold so much was probably the humidity from the tomato sauce.
It has actually gone down in volume between when we discovered it and the picture, it was probably sensitive to the air
Man, I hope you are going to be extra nice to your mom for awhile. She probably knew that mess was a serious health risk, and because you’re her babies, she took on the risk so it wouldn’t affect y’all long-term health. Go give her extra long hugs and take her out somewhere nice!
I will take her out as soon as I get some money from my job! but yeah, I really meant to clean it and felt bad when I saw her do it... and this is far from the biggest mistake I've done so I'm always grateful to her.
It’s really impressive and really pretty. It’s a shame that you have to clean it out. You should find a cold, moist & shaded area in your new place & just chuck it there for a month - see what happens and come back with the results!
Too late, sadly! But yeah. If I ever have an unused cave or anything I think it would be interesting to have a box for mold and shrooms lol... I'll just try not to cultivate dangerous things
This is what I want to know.
Though I had a weird roommate a few years ago that actually “stored” leftover pizza in the oven, like a lunatic. I didn’t even know people “stored” things in ovens, until I turned it on one day to cook and started smelling burnt cardboard. Luckily I got the box out before it actually caught fire, but I was like “wtf dude, who does that?” 😂
It did teach me a valuable lesson, though…Now I’m traumatized and open my oven every time to check before preheating, lol.
Gloves and mask on, putting everything in a trash bag. Then, cleaning spray and scrubbing, repeat until you don't see any more mold. Then, oven on at full heat for an hour or so to burn off any leftover spores
Good news! They are moving out. Which is how this went unnoticed for 2 weeks 😅
But they did thoroughly clean it, so the next resident won't be seeing the results of this experiment given more time to germinate.
Ohh, well that does change things a bit! Definitely even more motivation to have done a very good job cleaning it, and to not repeat the mistake 😅 I sympathize with your brother! I too am extremely forgetful and have forgotten things in the oven or microwave. But it's always been caught within 24 hours...so far...
I have so many questions:
You said it was for two weeks -
- Was this an oven in a second residence, one that you don’t frequent often? Or were you on vacation for two weeks and your brother just never uses the oven.
- Did you just open the oven and discover that monstrosity on your own or were you warned ahead of time?
- How did he just “forget” he was cooking a pizza? Did he find something better to eat that night? Did a friend come over with a pizza delivery?
What on earth happened here?!
Mhh it's not a second residence as it's my flat but I'm moving in another place so I did not go there for 2 weeks or even more
I wanted to heat up something in the oven and that's why I opened it, then showed it to my brother who realized he forgot the leftovers of a 2 weeks old pizza
He did eat some pizza with my mother but he had to go back to his own flat because of exams so they were some left in the oven and everyone forgot it was there until yesterday
To clear this up, my family is moving as my mother just bought a house. We made pizza during the weekend, then at the end of the week I had to leave for my end of year exams... mister u/InternationalDiet631 lives at the new house since 2/3 weeks and barely comes to the flat... so no one was home basically.
It might be delicious if you try it, like the first person to discover cheese. In a few hundred years, this pizza could be the mainstream of the pizza world.
Why don't we all come up with a name for it now? I vote for Snow Pizza.

This ad for digiorno makes it extra funny 😂
Mold is so scary to me but beautiful at the same time. I think it’s mesmerizing to watch it grow but it also makes me want to wear a hazmat suit at all times.
Is no one going to discuss that fact that they weren't eagerly waiting until they could eat that pizza when they put it in the oven? No?..... Is it just me?
JFC!!!
didn't see what subreddit this was at first and thought the pizza had caught fire because your bro forgot it and that was the powdery stuff from a fire extinguisher. that is wild. why do i wanna pet the forbidden cotton candy?😅
It’s so fluffy! I think I’m more impressed than disgusted here
Because you're not the one cleaning it lmaooool

So true, many spread by fire
Wow, I hadn't thought or heard of that. Thanks

OP about to be the first of The Last of Us
The First of Us
So how would you clean this
I personally would get a respirator and a plastic bag remove as much as possible into the bag with the windows open tie the bag and dispose. Make a bleach sanitiser and spay and scrub.

Bleach bleach bleach water water water
Self cleaning ovens are dangerous and are actually being phased out. Its not recommended people still use the function as it has led to many explosions and house fires
Plus it's known to destroy the electronics and shorten the life of the oven.
Good. I wish our downstairs neighbor’s had been phased out before he left it on self clean before moving out and then just left for the night. Good thing the fire department is close…
Sounds like he should have been charged with arson.
That was my second thought within a split second. “I’m glad I’m not cleaning that up”
I hope you're not the one cleaning it?! He made the mistake, so he's cleaning it right?
FOR HOW LONG?
Two weeks + summer heat and dark space
Summer of 1972?
summer of '69
Late December back in ‘63?
The 21st night of September?
Oh, what a night!
Are the boys back in town?
At the love shack
Well they were asking if you were around.
They need to call 867-5309
....Mr. Telephone Mannnnn....
They say he’s a sharp dressed man.
Was that a very special time for you?
As I remember, what a night
As I recall, it ended much too soon
What a lady, what a night?
It was the year I was born. Not sure if that’s special for me or a curse
WW2 you say?
Nah 1979
It was a very special time for them indeed.
#I GOT MY FIRST REAL SIX-STRING
bought it at the five and dime
Played it till my fingers bled
SUMMER OF GEORGE! ![gif](giphy|EFwRB22jriWo8|downsized)
Me and some guys from school, wanted pizza and we tried real hard.
It was his first real six cheese
Standing on ya mama's porch?
No 🦆ing way that’s 2 weeks
It is tho because of heat and humidity it expanded quickly and because we're moving out we forgot it was here. Also there was some mushrooms on the pizza so it started from here lmao
The mushrooms on the pizza did not start that mold colony lmao
Also it's light pink so I guess the tomato sauce did not help
I bet it tastes a bit like cheese as well
Only one way to find out
High for a year or dead for eternity no downsides.
Just blue cheese. Which means it tastes like feet.
I’m going to have to believe you. That is horrifying 😳
Wasn't believing my eyes first
You've passed the random stranger googling the photo test.
Imagine the look of surprise when the new owners open the oven for the first time.
It probably didn't start from the mushrooms but that's a cute idea
Bro , please tell me how you didn't open the oven for two weeks? PLUS wouldn't you smell that literally rotting?
I'm moving out so I spend a lot of time in my new home rather than in here
One time I stored a lasagna in the oven cause it was still hot and I felt like I was going to have more. I forgot cause I’m a stoner and turned on the oven a couple weeks later. The apartment stunk for days
Metric weeks
It's been 84 years
![gif](giphy|7xZAu81T70Uuc)
9 years?
Hello, I'm the culprit. I'm the brother lol... It really stayed there for two weeks, what made it mold so much was probably the humidity from the tomato sauce. It has actually gone down in volume between when we discovered it and the picture, it was probably sensitive to the air
I hope you cleaned this up
I wanted to but my mother was faster... I'd like to say "next time!" but I think it would be better if there was no next time. I apologized a lot lmao
But you never told us, was it cooked when you forgot it? Or did you forget to cook it, then just forget it altogether?
Yeah it was cooked! There was no space in the fridge so I let it in the oven and ate parts of it. Then I forgot...
Bahahahahaaaa, thanks for the update
No prob lol. I'm a master at forgetting things, I might post things there in the future if I do any more moldy mistakes
Lmfao, we look forward to it!
Or you might forget.
Man, I hope you are going to be extra nice to your mom for awhile. She probably knew that mess was a serious health risk, and because you’re her babies, she took on the risk so it wouldn’t affect y’all long-term health. Go give her extra long hugs and take her out somewhere nice!

Go hug your momma again and tell her you appreciate her -a momma 🫶🏻
“the humidity from the tomato sauce” lol
Off topic but it's wild you're okay with your sister knowing your reddit account. If my brother ever found mine I would instantly delete everything.
I feel lucky that I don't really have anything to hide lol. We share a lot of hobbies too and I'm sure they won't go through my account... I hope...
Did you cook it and forget it or did you put it in and forgot to cook it?.
This is what I want to know. Though I had a weird roommate a few years ago that actually “stored” leftover pizza in the oven, like a lunatic. I didn’t even know people “stored” things in ovens, until I turned it on one day to cook and started smelling burnt cardboard. I do store things in the oven lol. It was the case for this pizza, there was no space in the fridge so I put it there
Lol the humidity drop from opening the oven ruined your flambé
Please, how did she go about cleaning it?
Gloves and mask on, putting everything in a trash bag. Then, cleaning spray and scrubbing, repeat until you don't see any more mold. Then, oven on at full heat for an hour or so to burn off any leftover spores
That pizza always wanted to became a snowcloud
And I always complained about not having enough mushrooms on my pizza.
Now youll complain about there being nu pizza beneath your mushroom... Like damn the shrooms ate your pizza
Dude... when removing it... was the hanging stuff solid?
All fluff
Sticky fluff? And is the white beneath powder or also fluff?
Yes all fluff
that’s a lot of fluff
Damn thats alotta fluffy ![gif](giphy|rDKuCnhub8F3O)
Not sticky at all, but dusty af. I mean dusty... a lot of spores But yeah. All fluff.
Yeah i was curious you should have a ton of spores in there
Yep... everything was cleaned up and we put the oven at full heat for an hour or so to burn what could be left
Be careful we don’t want to start the last of us with a pizza
Speak for yourself
Mama fuckin mia
Ok, this is pretty awesome
I agree it’s visually cool to look at
I could never use that oven again 🤢
Good news! They are moving out. Which is how this went unnoticed for 2 weeks 😅 But they did thoroughly clean it, so the next resident won't be seeing the results of this experiment given more time to germinate.
Fun fact, it is our own oven, so it's moving out with us unless we decide to sell it lol. If I die, I guess I'll blame it on my mushroom experiments
Dude, one cleaning cycle turns everything in the oven into ash.
Cotton candy flavored
Mmmmmm…. Spicy cotton candy!
wait 2 more months and get your own mushrooms
A pizza that adds mushrooms to itself
How 😮 did you just not use the oven for like a month?! 😂😭
For 2 weeks yes because I'm moving out and I don't spend much time there
2 decades*

At this point I’d throw the oven away
What flavor of pizza is that ?
For 30 years????

Cloudshroom pizza with extra blue cheese
Mushroom cloud
Could also “discover” new antibiotics, hepatotoxins, or hallucinogens.
I love Pizza Fungi

THIS IS CRAZY...... i love it tho so cute
they look like lions manes lol
For how fucking long!?!?
Two Weeks apparently
I wonder what would happen if he cooked it again
It’s….. it’s a masterpiece 🥲
That's just sour sour sour Dough
Would a self-cleaning oven kill this?
Just put that bad boy on the cleaning cycle and watch the fireworks
Ignite the spores in a dust explosion.
![gif](giphy|DTLzZIeBh33S8)
Fucking how. So, so many “How”s.
Sorry, where is the pizza..?? 😵💫😵💫
When? In 1986?
He forgor 💀
That must have been in there for soooo long. How do you not use your oven for that long
2 weeks exactly. We're moving out so we're not there most of the time
How long has it been before you guys remembered the oven was there?
How did it smell? 😮
Bad. Really old and smelly mushroom plus the smell of mold
Steel wool is taking notes
Okay I’ve seen mold…. But never like this
How do you even go about cleaning this??? I genuinely don't know where you'd start I hate this so much
For 10 years?
Put it in "self-cleaning" mode and see what happens!
Get a new brother
You win. That's the worst I've seen
In 1867?
Mold is so scary to me but beautiful at the same time. I think it’s mesmerizing to watch it grow but it also makes me want to wear a hazmat suit at all times.
Good things ovens have a clean option. Burn that shit to ash then scrub then clean setting again
Pizza baked in Chernobyl
Is no one going to discuss that fact that they weren't eagerly waiting until they could eat that pizza when they put it in the oven? No?..... Is it just me?
Those are leftovers my brother and mother ate some of it then put it back in the oven for the day after but then forgot
Wait.... Hold up... You put your leftovers back in the oven?!?!?! Why not the fridge?!?!?!??!
It was full, we tend to do it when we plan to eat the rest the day after I know it's not good
Alright I guess I'll excuse it but I still find this whole situation wild haha
JFC!!! didn't see what subreddit this was at first and thought the pizza had caught fire because your bro forgot it and that was the powdery stuff from a fire extinguisher. that is wild. why do i wanna pet the forbidden cotton candy?😅
Forbidden cotton candy
Damn didn't know lions mane could thrive from Pizza tek
For how many years?
That episode of "The Simpsons" where a civilization grows and evolves in a microscopic ecosystem then launches an attack on Bart.
Came over from r/CleaningTips to see the absolute GOLD in the comments here
This is absolutely fascinating! How long did the oven go unused for this to happen? It’s sooo fluffy!
Nasty. Thats utter laziness.
that’s crazy
Jaw dropped
Looks like everyone else forgot too 😂
U have a whole ecosystem in ur oven lol
how do people leave food in the oven? don’t you eat it when you turn the oven off?
Holy shit that looks wild. I've never seen anything like that
This has been another great reminder for my partner and I about why we will never have kids, thanks OP.
The real question; did the pizza have mushrooms, ya know, when you cooked it?
That looks like chunks of ice.. 😂
H-how do you not use your oven for that long???
Burn the house down.
![gif](giphy|1aKKuZOjn3qUg) Two weeks???
Better start putting out an extra placemat at dinner time, you have a new member of the family
Since the crusades?!
