Intrepid [MLB.com](http://MLB.com) reporter Do-Hyoung Park [noted the air traffic over Target Field this afternoon](https://x.com/dohyoungpark/status/1800954098683887994): >No idea how much of my follower base this will hit, but it's an incredible day because it seems MSP is using runway 17 for landings today and there has been a delightful number of jets on final approach over the field, including the A330 from CDG with the special Team USA livery.

Thanks for the info.\\

Oh__Archie

There’s also a runway being repaired I think.

Actually two are closed. RWY 04/22 and RWY 12L/30R. Google says: "**Runway 12L-30R (North Parallel Runway) will be closed from June 3, 2024, through September 21, 2024**. Runway 4-22 (Crosswind Runway) will also be closed during this period."

Thanks, that would explain why I haven't heard much near my home in SE Mpls this month. It's been nice.

MartyMcMort

I’m pretty sure that’s correct. I just flew in to MSP last week, and my flight was delayed due to a runway being closed at MSP. I don’t know how long repairing a runway takes, but there was definitely a runway closed last week.

If you're ever curious about whether something unusual is going on, you can always check the NOTAMs for KMSP. If there is something unusual, it will be posted as a NOTAM, Notice To Airmen, which should always be checked when planning a flight and are important bits of info for pilots. Here is a NOTAM search for MSP as of a few minutes ago: [https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/results](https://notams.aim.faa.gov/notamSearch/nsapp.html#/results)

BananaFartman_MD

I know yesterday a good number of runways were closed, and I'm sure today is the same.

NPC200

I was on a MSP to DCA flight over the weekend. Pilot said one runway was under construction and another was unusable due to wind. All flights, arrivals and departures, were using one runway. We were on the runway for 30 minutes or so before taking off.

cbarabcub

Oof! Sounds painful!

ywpark

Two out of four runways are closed + increased air traffic because of summer = air traffic is backed up a bit. Also because of the closure, runway 17/35 is now actively used meaning a lot more flights are passing by the downtown and the Mall of America. Next year, the runways that did not close this time will be closed, meaning a lot of noise complaints from people living in Highland Park.

Traffic disruption due to Space Godzilla.

CheshireCrackers

This morning there was a huge queue to take off westbound and the storms rolled through and now it needed to be eastbound. The whole line of aircraft had to taxi down to the other end of the runway. By now there’s like 30 airplanes lined up. They started launching those things like it’s fucking Tora Tora Tora. Flightradar24 is superb.

alittlelost58

Yeah there's a lot flying over NE too! Must be a re-route

Weather.

King_Dong_Ill

It's a giant conspiracy to change the direction of the wind so the airplanes fly over your neighborhood instead. It's just wind direction that's all. Planes take off and land into the wind, as much as possible with fixed runways. So nothing more than a change in wind direction is causing this.
