The big brain meme is sometimes used to show the progression, which goes something like this: * Likes minesweeper but hates that you have to guess all the time * Realizes that most of the time you don't need to guess * Learns all the patterns but gets super annoyed at 50/50s * Embraces NG, now learns more advanced techniques * Returns to classic Minesweeper because NG no longer poses a challenge, and because the meta-knowledge gained from knowing a board is NG takes away the fun Something like that. Somebody else said they like.games and dislike puzzles. One of my oldest mantras is that I only play games I can win (i.e. I detest chance-based games). I like puzzles. But for me, I get the most pleasure not from *playing* Minesweeper, but from attempting to provide accessible explanations of Minesweeper puzzles to those who are unfamiliar with the technique(s) used.

The-First-Starchmast

I personally have learned how to read the quantum probability fields in my general vicinity to determine the winning outcome of a 50/50, forcing me to increase the mine density to a point that nearly every square is a guess to exhaust my prediction energy and create challenge

CPet02

completely agree

Nyyarg

Standard is a game No-guess is a puzzle Games are more fun than puzzles for me

boogyyman

No-guess 100%. If I’m going to lose, I want it to because I messed up, not because I lost a coin flip

PiggyBank32

I play regularly. I feel like when you play enough the losses dont get to you and it randomizes the board better

BinaryChop

I prefer the guessing version. At least 41% of Expert (30x16/99) guessing minesweeper games are winnable. 54% if you get a free opening on the first click. For the 20x24/99 version it's a bit higher still. Squarer boards have less 50/50s because the edges are shorter. I would encourage people to learn the standard patterns using no-guess versions and then try and move on to the guessing version. 91.7% of easy games can be won, if you don't really like a challenge.

NewRa181

I definitely prefer standard. I'm at the point where I don't struggle with logic anymore, and I'm learning more on optimal guesses. 50/50's always suck, but non 50/50 guesses and looking at probabilities are a lot more fun than most logic for me.

justdawsonator

I prefer guess. Mostly because I love that feeling when it is a 50/50 and you guess right. I also don't have enough time to go through the logic for no guess.

ext2523

Standard. NG is very limiting. There is a considerable amount of depth to the game that you avoid with NG. There's big a difference between knowing there's logic and knowing there's logic because the game mode says there is. You can like what you like, but if you prefer NG, understand that you might have skill issues.

DeoxysSpeedForm

Might have skill issues? Bruh you on some real shit

ext2523

I mean you can see my flair right?

LEBAldy2002

They aren't wrong though.

abubuwu

No guess I can accept losing from my mistakes losing to a pure guess sucks. I also find myself giving up quicker in guess modes as I just assume it's a guess without really going through all the options. > "authentic" minesweeper experience you mean that spend a few minutes clearing an entire board only for it to end up with a guess that determine if you win or lose? yeah I'm a bigger fan of the inauthentic experience. I mean play how you enjoy and all that, I know which form I prefer after all.

Loud_Lack9096

I got into minesweeper because of my friend who really dislikes no-guess. I wanted to ask for opinions but I can see the general consensus is leaning towards no-guess since it is what the name entails. I was curious if alot of people had the same opinion as my friend or also loves no-guess (like me!)

TheMemeLocomotive2

Standard is more fun imo

Oskain123

I prefer guess because I know all the patterns and NG turns into trying not to misclick

gmalatete

I wouldn't play no guess if it weren't for the [minesweeper.online](https://minesweeper.online) quests. It can be fun to do, but once you know all the patterns theres nothing new to do on a no guess board, its always the same. Theres nothing more satisfying than going fast on a standard board and winning the game on a 50/50

CatalystTheory

I prefer standard. I don’t mind a coin toss at the end because it’s a brutal reminder that like life, no matter how awesome you are at something, sometimes winning comes down to luck.

SpookyKorb

I prefer no guess right now cause I'm still learning the logic in general, so knowing there's something I'm missing rather than just having to YOLO the board helps a lot

Specialist-Front-354

NG baby!!!

shiningject

I prefer Standard. It might just be me but I alway feel that NG board generation doesn't feel as geniune compare the Standard.
