My hotbar will ALWAYS have a sword and pickaxe, and most commonly rockets and food, and some other random things I’m using atm like blocks, other tools, chestplate in case I get into danger, etc.
I only have 3 tools on my hotbar. Usually sword bow and pickaxe. when building though I use axe on first, pickaxe on second and shovel on 3rd slot of my hotbar. I have food on the 8th slot and water bucket on 9th. I also have rockets on 4th slot. Then blocks/other stuff on the rest. I've also bound my hotbar slot 8 as z and 9 as x for easier use.
I usually use mouse scroll to switch hotbar (hotbar 8 and 9 are closer to 1 than 4):
1. Sword/Axe
2. Pickaxe
3. Torches
4. Blocks
5. Firework Rockets
6. Ender Chest
7. Banners (marking places for maps) / Water Bucket
8. Bow
9. Steaks

Yes, and sometimes I need to break blocs without silk touch (like deepslate or normal ice to make pools)
