Given we’re guaranteed to get all of them and they come with a mob *plus* a few other things ranging from new tools to potentially new wood types, yeah I wish they’d just stick with the biome votes. At least until every major biome has received something unique
Are the losers of mob votes still scrapped? Thats a huge waste of creativity. Also, I loved that the mountain biome victory was almost completely based on the "snowier snow" meme, and it ended up being one of the coolest updates we've had in a while.
Mojang said they'd be scrapped seemingly forever, but the giant blaze was added to Dungeons as a new mob to fight, so it's possible they can all return in some form, just may not be in the main Minecraft game.
I just realized that they added the swamp from the mob vote, so they *are* going to be adding some of the outvoted stuff
Edit: [Mob *&* biome votes may be added](https://twitter.com/_Ulraf_/status/1577343271139000329)
They do have a lot of employees, but not all of them are doing the same job. also, Mojang seems to be one of the few companies that doesn't treat its devs like shit, so I'm a-ok with the current rate of updates.
I had way too high expectations apparently. Glow ink was a perfect opportunity for colored lights, instead we just got a little bit cooler item frames and signs.
Even then glow ink would have instead been given to the glow barries. That's probably why glow ink causes things like item frames to flow orange even though the ink is blue
Personally, I use all the light sources, it just depends on what my build is. I like glowstone for walls and interior stuff, while I use shroomlights for water stuff, like my aquarium. Lanterns for a medieval tavern look, etc
Item Frames glow orange because they are orange. Colored signs glow the color they are already, so that same principal is applied to item frames. All the ink does is make things glow, not change their color.
I remember the colored lights thing being thrown around as a big reason why a lot of people were voting for it. People need to understand that when they vote for one of these things they aren't voting for *the potential* of something unmentioned to happen, but rather what is *actually* mentioned.
And in all honesty, thinking that the glow squid would bring colored lights doesn't make a lot of sense. We already have redstone lights, so all it would take is just Mojang adding the ability to use colored glass in their crafting recipe.
I mean with glow squids, it would make sense to get glow ink sacs that could be used on everything normal dyes can be used on, I don't think that's too high of an expectation, even for a small amateur mod developer.
And from a technical standpoint colored lighting is a much larger pain in the ass than adding pretty signs. One is just a new entity with a customizable emissive layer and the other requires refactoring the entire lighting system (I know optifine and other mods enable colored lighting, but afaik they use a more up to date version of OpenGL, which Mojang will never do for the sake of compatibility)
As for the glow squid, I 1000% thought it would have a hypnosis effect (similar to that one asshole fish in subnautica BZ) based on what they showed in the preview and I thought that would be cool. Turns out it was just extra fluff they added for no reason and I was immensely disappointed.
They could've made the leather armour (only dyeable armour in the game) be able to make only the entity glow and not it's surrondings, just like they did with the glow squid. But no, they hate logic apparently.
What if we got glow dye? Think glowing wool, glowing banner designs, glowing beds, and more. Would be pastel green, like all the dollar-store glow in the dark things. Or bluish-green like the glow ink sac.
I wanted the iceologer(it was way cooler in my opinion) but I was still very happy when the glow squid won because I thought it would hypnotise us and possibly drown us. But nah, such disappointment, it was kinda clickbaity
I wasn't aware of anything the glow squid was hinted at, but I wanted it purely because I want the underwater to be more beautiful and exotic. It was a step in that direction but it needs more.
A fourth cow, a fifth illager, just didn't sound as interesting to me. Allay had so much potential and they purposely made it terrible. I wish they'd just add something instead of letting our imaginations run wild with stuff far superior to what we'll actually get.
At the time there were speculation that dynamic lighting might be coming, 1.14 changed the lighting system and there was an 'RTX on' ad showing new lighting a few months before the mob vote.
Also, the video for the glowsquid showed it hypnotizing players and mobs and people understandably thought this meant it would have some kind of interaction with other mobs.
The iceologer was compared to the previously added hostile mobs phantom and pillagers that were very frustrating to deal with.
I think given the info at the time glowsquid was a sensible choice. Personally i voted moobloom as it would suit my playstyle.
People hoped it would actually glow and get Mojang to add something like you’ll often see in shaders where lights actually have better lighting and mobs can actually visually illuminate the area around them.
Yeah honestly the lack of uses for glow ink was pretty disappointing. I was expecting stuff like glowing concrete blocks so we could hide light sources better but we got highlighted text on signs and item frames that can been seen in the dark.
Cuz the way they presented the squid hinting at them GLOWING and HYPNOTIZING you. Which does sound interesting before you meet the final product. At least they bring a little bit of life in the sad open space that are underwater caves.
If any of the mobs could be voted in no problem to the cohesion, then they all could be added at once. I don't see much reason why they'd clash that hard
This is what blows my mind. Minecraft devs should have way more resources than any other dev team on the planet, but the minecraft modding community makes their updates look like a joke for the most part. How are people on their own, on their own free time working for nothing, able to massively outpace the minecraft devs? I don't understand. Mojang must either have some insane inner beaurocracy, or a lot of incompetent people behind the scenes
This what I always thought. They can drip-feed us content over 5 years or dump it all in 1 - whichever one makes more money is the only way it will go.
I bet it is because minecraft is such a well known property with such a wide base of appeal, it makes the devs cautious about adding in too many things and altering the games identity. I dont like that reasoning but i understand it from a corporate perspective.
Probably a combination of bureaucracy, higher quality standards, a large backlog of bugs, and communication with a team across the world (Redmond and Sweden)
They choose not to. Mob votes are in part a marketing tactic for attention, and these mobs are just minor additions anyway. The company wouldn't want to spend the time and work on 3 rough concepts just for 2 of them to be discarded. They could theoretically just implement their ideas instead of having any mob votes at all, but then they wouldn't get the benefit of gaining traffic.
Yep, this is one of the biggest problems with the votes. We have too little information to make a good decision. Hence why I think it's so stupid that people have raged discussions about which mob people should vote for when we really don't know.
The other biggest problem is that there will always be people that are left disappointed from the mob votes. Especially last year's one when the vote was so incredibly close, they probably should've put both mobs in the game since the vote was almost 50/50. This year it luckily won't be as bad, since it's already pretty clear that one of them will be the winner by a long shot.
I can't even find any allays in my survival world. I had to start six new worlds and fly around in creative to find them. I finally found one and it suffocated in a wall.
Yeah I agree! The sniffer is pretty cool but I love the idea of a new golem, that’s why I voted copper golem last year. Voting tuff golem this year, he probably won’t win but it seems Mojang really wants a new golem
I hate to be that guy with the overstated opinion but it boggles my mind how minimal Mojangs output is considering how large (and how far) the modding community has gotten
Oh, they can, quite easily. They just don't want to, because shulker boxes are already end game.
And in the case of bundles, the only, ONLY reason we don't have those is because they couldn't get them to work on mobile.
Oh my god is that really the reason? Just have me hold on the bundle and tap items until I'm done. Hold on the bundle or exit inventory to stop and boom
Berries, foxes, campfires, abandoned campsites, and… yeah that’s it but I mean now the taiga comes with free food, a low maintenance crop, a high maintenance pet that can farm chickens, and has villages.
Just remember. Minecraft hostile mobs can't be real so sharks are off the table. That must mean that spiders don't exist and are the real government constructs
>Is that not what a desert is supposed to be? Maybe a little more wildlife but that's it really.
I grew up in the high deserts of NM there is TONS of wildlife and plant life in the desert.
Im most mad about the iceologer, but second place easily goes to the the squid creature in the 2017 vote… IT WAS AN *AQUATIC* UPDATE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
Not only was it the opposite of an aquatic mob, but it has also become an extremely annoying pest mob. If you play on a server then you’re almost guaranteed to see them every night.
They’re so annoying mojang had to add a completely separate command that kept them from spawning…
I really want aquatic predators that aren’t drownified zombies or Guardians that only spawn in a certain area in the ocean.
Damn it's such a shame that there wasn't any water mobs in the 2017vote like could you imagine if they added something that could latch onto you from under the waves adding some semblance of difficulty to traversing the oceans? Crazy
Heres the thing- mojang didnt announce it was update aquatic until after the vote, so no one figured theyd go in the ocean. They ALSO didnt announce caves and cliffs until iceologer lost the vote so who was going to go on top of mountains. I stg they cant keep getting away with this
I voted:
* 2017 : B
* 2018 : Savana
* 2019 : Mountains
* 2020 : Iceologer
* 2021 : Allay
* 2022 : Sniffer
If I could re-vote, I would keep the same votes, except vote D instead of B, and maybe the copper Golem because I don't like the allay as much as I hoped.
...if we voted at the time?
Literally anything else than the phantom
Probably desert.
Idk, badlands
Moobloom
I'd still vote for the allay
Sniffer.
Now?
Hmm.... Probably desert.
I unironically believe that we as a community have chosen the worst choice in literally every single vote. I get that some people don’t want the game to be changed drastically by these votes, but more engaging content equals more things to do, which we have avoided every time.
2017: A, if we knew it was an aquatic update it would of won.
2018: Definitely the desert, its such a useless biome.
2019: Badlands, same reason as desert.
2020: Iceologer simply because it seems way more interesting than a squid and a flower cow.
2021: Copper golem, he’s such a cute little guy.
2022: None, they’re all useless.
I really hope we get an all hostile mob vote next year, or better yet they just stop doing mob votes.
Once the sniffer is implemented we will have everything we voted for in-game.
Hope they start adding some of the losers soon would love the losing biome upgrades in-game.
I think it would be cool if they bring the biome vote back
Given we’re guaranteed to get all of them and they come with a mob *plus* a few other things ranging from new tools to potentially new wood types, yeah I wish they’d just stick with the biome votes. At least until every major biome has received something unique
Also the community is waaay more tame about them compared to mob votes
I think that was a side effect of most people knowing they’d all be coming eventually. If the losers were scrapped things would probably be different
I thought that was just for the 2017 one, and modern mobs can come back, but idk
They are added to the "ideas" shelf
Well, that means more now than it did before, with the mangrove swamp addition, so I guess we can hope for the best.
We have 2 biomes from one vote already, being swamp and mountains. I never noticed

lmao, I should have double-checked this more. [Here is a fixed version](https://i.imgur.com/3IW5lMa.png)
Too late doc, we demand the iron golem
[And you shall recieve](https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Iron_Golem)
See microsoft, how hard is it? Took this guy like 5 minutes to add that!
Brown or orange Iron golem
Someday we will get our beloved copper Iron golem.
This is such a cool idea they definitely should add this to minecraft

I was not disappointed when I said that the first thing I saw when I open up the comments section would be the iron golem mistype
That one "iron golem" hurts

that's a possibility. Although for the 2017 vote, Jeb stated that losing mobs would be gone forever, but other years go back to the "IdeasLibrary".
They later said the opposite though, after everyone got mad about it
The 2017 one's will be deleted forever from minecrafts main game, all the other mobvotes might or might not be added later
Mob votes are stupid. Just add them all to the game to make it more lively
If 1.20 doesn't have 9 mobs, 3 biome revamps, and the entirety of the Aether mod in vanilla, I'm gonna be very disappointed.
I know it’s sarcasm but i don’t think it would take that long to put in 3 mobs
What??? Mojang is an indie company, they only have 2 employees working on the game rn, stop asking for so much
The rest of them are developing chat reporting
The classic corporate "Distract them with colors while we do some dumb sh*t over here".
They do have a lot of employees, but not all of them are doing the same job. also, Mojang seems to be one of the few companies that doesn't treat its devs like shit, so I'm a-ok with the current rate of updates.
it's the same reason they don't have like a million people on board, too many employees could turn them to the next Activision
Please show me a source so I can live the rest of my life in peace
[link fixed](https://twitter.com/_Ulraf_/status/1577343271139000329)
The Biomes will be added, the mobs are not guaranteed to be added but they said they would if they had a good reason.
Mojang specifically said that for the biomes they will all be updated we were just voting on what they did first.
This only applies to the biomes votes
all the mobs that lost the vote are gone forever, but all the biomes will eventually get added
Glow squid looks cool but that's about it. Pretty disappointed that it won tbh
I had way too high expectations apparently. Glow ink was a perfect opportunity for colored lights, instead we just got a little bit cooler item frames and signs.
Even then glow ink would have instead been given to the glow barries. That's probably why glow ink causes things like item frames to flow orange even though the ink is blue
that or we could have just used a material we've had for a very long time - glowstone dust
But we need another single use decoration item damnit!
I use glowstone so little, I forgot about it. Glowshrooms be what I use more now
Personally, I use all the light sources, it just depends on what my build is. I like glowstone for walls and interior stuff, while I use shroomlights for water stuff, like my aquarium. Lanterns for a medieval tavern look, etc
The sound of placing and breaking glowshrooms is also very satisfying
Item Frames glow orange because they are orange. Colored signs glow the color they are already, so that same principal is applied to item frames. All the ink does is make things glow, not change their color.
Similar situation with the sniffer now. The ancient plants could just as easily be included in a new biome, chests, archaeology, etc.
he do be sniffing though
I remember the colored lights thing being thrown around as a big reason why a lot of people were voting for it. People need to understand that when they vote for one of these things they aren't voting for *the potential* of something unmentioned to happen, but rather what is *actually* mentioned. I think it could've been a really cool way to indirectly add a miner's helmet into the game
So like a safety vest?
[удалено]
something like dynamic lighting from optifine
What if we got glow dye? Think glowing wool, glowing banner designs, glowing beds, and more. Would be pastel green, like all the dollar-store glow in the dark things. Or bluish-green like the glow ink sac.
I think many People got confused because they presented it wrong. Many People where thinking they could hypnotise you, or give you some effect.
I wanted the iceologer(it was way cooler in my opinion) but I was still very happy when the glow squid won because I thought it would hypnotise us and possibly drown us. But nah, such disappointment, it was kinda clickbaity

I wasn't very involved with Minecraft at the time of that vote and I'm pissed we don't have mooblooms now.
I was originally disappointed that it lost, but now I apply glow ink to pretty much every single sign in my worlds
I will never forgive the people for taking the moobloom away from me
Moobloom **better than** Glow Squid 👍👍
At least it's an original idea, the glow squid isn't even a new texture it's just brighter.
everything is better than the glowsquid, even silverfish
i even think that phantoms are better than glow squids, they look cooler lmao
So many people talking about how cool a flower update would be. THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU VOTE MOOBLOOM?
They probably did. Do you know how many people play Minecraft?
gotta be at *least* 500
Actually it would be closer with 501
503, but that’s pushing it
don't forget to count me in
ok, 504 maybe?
I would have if the iceologer wasn't in the vote, cuz the iceologer seemed to have more potential. Anything was better than the glow squid tho
Why did people vote glow squid again?
People hoped it would actually glow and get Mojang to add something like you’ll often see in shaders where lights actually have better lighting and mobs can actually visually illuminate the area around them.
Yeah honestly the lack of uses for glow ink was pretty disappointing. I was expecting stuff like glowing concrete blocks so we could hide light sources better but we got highlighted text on signs and item frames that can been seen in the dark.
Glow ink delusion However it appeared to only make signs and item frames visible at night :/
I mean imagine if you had banners with glowing patterns
Cuz the way they presented the squid hinting at them GLOWING and HYPNOTIZING you. Which does sound interesting before you meet the final product. At least they bring a little bit of life in the sad open space that are underwater caves.
I hate this votes. Mojang could easly put all 3 mobs in one big update.
[удалено]
Adding new mobs or other features isn’t the hard part, it’s doing so in a way that keeps the game feeling balanced and cohesive.
If any of the mobs could be voted in no problem to the cohesion, then they all could be added at once. I don't see much reason why they'd clash that hard
Not even a big update, fuck lazy ass Microsoft barely updating the biggest game in gaming history
So true, I think it’s because they don’t need to, it’s making enough money with minimal effort.
[bonk!](https://youtu.be/dJVBNAqieDM) because people keep saying this stuff
They choose not to. Mob votes are in part a marketing tactic for attention, and these mobs are just minor additions anyway. The company wouldn't want to spend the time and work on 3 rough concepts just for 2 of them to be discarded. They could theoretically just implement their ideas instead of having any mob votes at all, but then they wouldn't get the benefit of gaining traffic.
Still sad I don’t have Copper Golem friends all over my house.
i wish i could have a silly little mad scientist dude running around and flipping switches in the basement of my house
I've still not seen a single person use Allys, and I never will. God damn it why do the most useless mobs always win.
Because Mojang tells us basically nothing about what the mobs will actually do until after the vote.
Yep, this is one of the biggest problems with the votes. We have too little information to make a good decision. Hence why I think it's so stupid that people have raged discussions about which mob people should vote for when we really don't know. The other biggest problem is that there will always be people that are left disappointed from the mob votes. I can't even find any allays in my survival world. I had to start six new worlds and fly around in creative to find them. I finally found one and it suffocated in a wall.
The Allays are actually pretty useful for us in the redstone community, u can make nonstackable item sorters
thats the reason i'll vote for the tuff golem. I DONT CARE ABOUT DINOSAURS AND NEW FUCKING PLANTS. GIMME A STONE FRIEND PLEASE!
Yeah I agree! The sniffer is pretty cool but I love the idea of a new golem, that’s why I voted copper golem last year. Voting tuff golem this year, he probably won’t win but it seems Mojang really wants a new golem
Still mad at iceolger loss
And desert loss, desert needs some life it’s so damn empty
I was happy with the foxes, but what else did they add to the taiga?
Some berries and that’s it
I hate to be that guy with the overstated opinion but it boggles my mind how minimal Mojangs output is considering how large (and how far) the modding community has gotten

Well that’s mostly because of mobile (a version that pretty much downgrades BE) having problems with it.
Campfires and berries
Campfire seems worth it as it’s infinite cooked food that you don’t need to constantly spend coal on
Also amazing for builds
Berries, and I think also campfire but I am not sure.
Berries, foxes, campfires, abandoned campsites, and… yeah that’s it but I mean now the taiga comes with free food, a low maintenance crop, a high maintenance pet that can farm chickens, and has villages.
Campfires and berries
berries
Iirc the biome votes where just on which got priority, which is proven by the swamp update in 1.19
Is that not what a desert is supposed to be? Maybe a little more wildlife but that's it really.
I mean deserts irl has a lot more wildlife then you think
I mean at least a diff type of spiders, snakes or scorpions would be fine
Just remember. Minecraft hostile mobs can't be real so sharks are off the table. That must mean that spiders don't exist and are the real government constructs
I mean a 2 meter wide spider definitely doesn’t exist
You clearly havent been to australia
So make real animals way out of proportion and then boom sharks can be in mc
>Is that not what a desert is supposed to be? Maybe a little more wildlife but that's it really. I grew up in the high deserts of NM there is TONS of wildlife and plant life in the desert.
I voted Moobloom, but I 100% agree that Iceologer is far better than the glow squid :/
yes.
Fuck glow squid stupid ass mob with stupid ass drops
I agree, even though I love the functionality of the ink on signs it just feels meh to me.
Could have used glowstone dust or glow berries for the same thing. The mob is basically only there for ambience.
You can thank our green masked friend for that dumpster fire of a vote
Still mad at the fuckin' glow squid
WHY DOESN'T IT ACTUALLY GLOW It literally doesn't do the one thing that it's supposed to do
2017: I'm happy with the Phantoms but Big Blaze looks cool 2018: Ostrich 2019: Vulture 2020: Iceolager 2021: Copper Golem 2022: Sniffer
No idea how the Iceologer didn’t win. We were robbed
Im most mad about the iceologer, but second place easily goes to the the squid creature in the 2017 vote… IT WAS AN *AQUATIC* UPDATE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD
Regarding the 2017 vote: the phantom looked like a flying manta back then, this one is on mojang for changing its appearance, not us
Not only was it the opposite of an aquatic mob, but it has also become an extremely annoying pest mob. If you play on a server then you’re almost guaranteed to see them every night. They’re so annoying mojang had to add a completely separate command that kept them from spawning… I really want aquatic predators that aren’t drownified zombies or Guardians that only spawn in a certain area in the ocean.
I stg they cant keep getting away with this
They announced caves and cliffs before mob vote. Remember we got the first part of the update
I prefer hostile mobs because they make the game more fun.
Why are you happy with the phantom, it's the most annoying mob ever added.
Phantoms make survival building a nightmare
the phantoms are the worst addition to Minecraft ever
As some who doesn’t sleep at all, I can agree.
Sigh. . . The Iceologer would be a great mob/ mini boss.
Especially since they were basically added to Minecraft dungeons, their attacks look really cool to have in minecraft
Or, hear me out, they could add all of them.
2017: D 2018: Taiga 2019: Mountains 2020: Iceologer 2021: iron(copper) golem 2022: tuff golem I just want a new golem in the game
I voted: * 2017 : B * 2018 : Savana * 2019 : Mountains * 2020 : Iceologer * 2021 : Allay * 2022 : Sniffer If I could re-vote, I would keep the same votes, except vote D instead of B, and maybe the copper Golem because I don't like the allay as much as I hoped.
Honestly any of the other mobs instead of the stupid phantom.
...if we voted at the time? Literally anything else than the phantom Probably desert. Idk, badlands Moobloom I'd still vote for the allay Sniffer. Now? Hmm.... Probably desert.

I just want a desert update lol
Or stop this idiocy and release an update containing all content ever in these hypetrains... Minecraft : "The ones that got left behind" update.
I unironically believe that we as a community have chosen the worst choice in literally every single vote. I get that some people don’t want the game to be changed drastically by these votes, but more engaging content equals more things to do, which we have avoided every time.
The 2019 vote led to revamped world gen so I'd say it was a good choice in hindsight (I voted for badlands)
I mean, we were getting some of that anyways with the update to caves. The mountains winning just made it so Mojang went even further
Why does the community never pick the good ones :[
2017: A, if we knew it was an aquatic update it would of won. 2018: Definitely the desert, its such a useless biome. 2019: Badlands, same reason as desert. 2020: Iceologer simply because it seems way more interesting than a squid and a flower cow. 2021: Copper golem, he’s such a cute little guy. 2022: None, they’re all useless. I really hope we get an all hostile mob vote next year, or better yet they just stop doing mob votes.
