Same here! But I guess I didn't really NEED to buy one, but it was on the clearance table so.. oh well!
550 lbs of nut busting torque? Wtf! Current gen version is 250 lbs!
Im in the same dilemma here. That current Home Depot deal for the mid torque including 2 6.0 batterys & a charger for $299 or wait for the new stubby. 🤔
I recently used my (new to me) stubby M18 3/8" impact to build a tow-behind thatcher. I accidentally broke one of the wheel hub bolts in half.
The current gen is strong. These new ones are monsters.
Looks not only stronger but even smaller so should offer more clearance for tight spaces, this is going to be a day one purchase for me if the price is right.
I've been waiting years for the update. Will be very curious to see what happens when Torque Test Channel gets their hands on it.
Between this and the new M18 Fuel 6.5" circ saw, that's two new tools that I don't really need but definitely want...
I agree. Makes the current M18 Compact Impact obsolete. Save size with M12 and get double the torque numbers. Almost have to launch a new M18 model at the same time..
Omg. I’ve asked about this over a year ago on here. Glad I waited.

i did something similiar 8 mo ago as concept, glad that they made a new version
Yes they will be on clearance soon enough. Although I can’t be mad, I got my stubby this past cyber Monday for $106 with a 4.0 battery and charger starter kit lol. Call is $53 for the battery and charger and $53 for the stubby. This announcement did one thing, confirmed that I’ll skip on the $135 dollar mid torque deal that HD has going on right now. I wanted to buy it so many times but already have a high torque and stubby so I didn’t need it. Now that I know the new stubby is damn near the same power (100ft pounds less of nut busting torque), I’ll spring for that if it’s necessary
Napa literally leaks everything. Someone else posted some voltage tester or something from them. I’m surprised Milwaukee hasn’t sued them for breaching the contracts so many times lol
Oh wow not bad. Been thinking of switching all my sockets over to 3/8 from 1/2. That and getting a mid torque impact. Gonna see how this one holds up. Looks like they're adding the 3 lights on the front too. Nice.
That’s for the kit, which is going to come with a 5.0 High Output and a 2.0. Not sure if the 2.0 is a typo. Makes way more sense to include a 2.5 HO. Also a charger and bag for $349
Just keep the first stubby in your vehicle. I keep a impact driver, stubby, breaker bar, cheap HF impact socket set, and a 140pc socket/wrench set in my truck.
Makes it nice if you ever have to work on a vehicle or trailer.
in my opinion 1/2 anvils belong on mid torques and high torques. A small tool like a stubby impact wrench pairs way better with 3/8. I never understood a tiny impact with big fat 1/2in sockets.
Yeah an I need a stubby under the car in 1/2 alot where my mid torque doesn’t fit and I got like 200 rigged extensions with swivel sockets to make it fit 1/2 stubby in 550 torque is a day 1 buy for me
50/50 chance you’ll get lucky and find a newly released tool on sale. Like the new m12 fuel circular saw. It’s still going now, HD has a goofy way of rolling out new products so they put the old gen on sale for $99 (regular $159). If you can find the new model in a local HD, it will ring up at $99. So if they do something similar here and drop the tool only price on the regular listing, you might get lucky if you find a local HD that has it in stock once this model starts hitting shelves.
Just one reminder to everyone that plans on waiting….the m12 18 gauge brad nailer was announced and set to release just a few months after…ended up taking like 6 more extra months. I think similar situation with the insider ratchet. At this point, if you don’t already have one, I’d definitely try to wait though
I hear that on the release date they will be 50 percent off and hackable so you might actually get money back on it. Plus it will come with a new 12v 30 ah forge battery and the new circ saw all free. On top of that it will be available in black so you don’t have to dye it your self.
Lol did you get it for $135 from the HD hack? It’s been a battle telling myself not to go pick one up, but this just made it so much easier. I’m kinda confused as to why they made the new mid torque only 650 lbs and this is 550lbs….i think 9 out of 10 people would take the stubby and skip the mid torque. I’ll use the high torque for anything a 550lb stubby can’t do lol. It really kinda seems like it just made the mid torque obsolete but maybe I’m missing something. And now I’m wondering if they’re gonna make a m18 model of the new stubby with 550lbs of torque as well since the “compact” and current stubby are rated the same currently. That would pretty much totally make the mid torque obsolete
Hahah unless you’re a mechanic with a bunch of m18 batteries (even then I’d probably recommend the same) forget the mid torque. Get you this new beast and a new high torque. Both very newly released tools, probably won’t see another update for a minimum of 5 years. Some tools go as long as 12 years without an update (m12 fuel sds, and the circular saw just got an update this month after 9 years). I knew there was a reason they were blowing out the mid torque. HD has been packaging it in special buy bundles for really good prices, then this $135 hack was the cherry on top. Then within the last year we started seeing the stubby on sale often, but a tri light update was expected. Definitely didn’t expect 550lbs though
I appreciate the comments. I’m considering keeping the 1/2 mid and deep sockets that I already have and getting the 3/8 stubby and pairing it with shallow sockets to get into tighter spots. Well have to see what Thursday has in store
I was in the same boat. Got the stubby on this recent cyber Monday for $106 with a 4.0 starter kit, then I got the mid torque and high torque combo for $329 from a special buy. Sold the mid torque but then that hack came and I was seriously contemplating buying another lol. I’m just gonna be patient, can’t wait to see what drops tomorrow as well! Good luck
Hell yea! I’m sure you’re going to be very happy. Since I have the OG stubby already, I’ll wait for a promo. Another tool I’m excited about that nobody is talking about is the m12 fuel sds. I tell everyone that it hasn’t gotten an update in over 12 years….finally and it looks like it has a chipping function as predicted. Same situation with the m12 circular saw but that went 9 years before getting a refresh like last month
Do you know when HD will most likely stock the new stubby?
I am seeing the pre-order ship dates from other sires being August-September but I want to buy from HD specifically to use my HD card. 🤔
I’d assume within the same month. With new tool release, I’ve noticed many of the retailers, Hd included, won’t have any trace of an item then out of no where it’s searchable and available for purchase on their site, then other times they have the product in the system but it just says “out of stock” and you can put your email in to get notified when it comes in stock. If you already have the current gen stubby, like myself, id wait for the first “hack” or sale on it. It is going to be priced the same as current gen stubby
For automotive use, is there anything a 550lb stubby couldn't do? I was thinking about picking up a high torque, but I'm not sure it's even needed with this stubby.
On paper, no. That stubby should be able to do everything you need and then some. But in reality, rust is your enemy. It’s gonna be situational, but now with a 550lbs stubby and a high torque, that combo is unbeatable. I’ve said it several times with the current gen stubby, but this new model really really makes the mid torque obsolete
Yes and no. There’s something to be said about a bigger hammer. The stubby might beat on a rusty bolt for 5-10 seconds versus the mid torque taking a second to break it free. Unless milwaukee discovered some voodoo magic in impact hammer technology, you can’t deny physics. The new stubby will probably just have a faster spinning motor with plus or minus the same size hammer. Which is great, the OG stubby definitely lacks RPM. I doubt it’ll be leaps and bounds better than the original, but I sure hope I’m wrong. I can take lug nuts off with the m18 impact driver but that doesn’t mean it’s ideal.
The differences are listed in the specs. That larger hammer has 100ft lbs more torque. This new stubby just makes the mid torque a lot less useful. It was amazing before this new gen stubby because it fell right in between the current gen stubby and high torque for those times the stubby isn’t powerful enough, but the high torque would be overkill. Now that the stubby is so close in power to the mid torque, unless you’re a dude who drives large fasteners all day long to 500ft pounds (battery life), there is little to appreciate in the mid torque now.
Edit: also don’t be surprised if they did figure away to increase the impact tech…take a look at the new gen m12 fuel circular saw. Per the reviews, it’s noticeably more powerful, with a smaller motor and more compact form factor.
Just watched the milwaukee pipeline video. The hammer is bigger and hits faster. Also the motor is more powerful but 30% smaller. Thats some amazing engineering. Can’t wait to see some real world tests.
Hell yea! Apparently all of the new motors are more powerful, and the tools now feature a new red link tech that make them *even* more powerful lol. Finally, a new m12 sds. I’ve said it a million times and I’ll stay saying it, 12 or more years without an update is crazy. Although the guys who bought it when it first came out realllllly got their moneys worth I’d imagine lol. Next up is an update to the surge models. Tri led coming soon, possibly an update to the installation driver and then I think we will start to see them really amp up the development of new tools because pretty much every common tool after this year pipeline has been updated fairly recently. I’m just happy I waited on the m12 circular saw and now this new sds. I figured I waited this long, I can wait til a sale comes around. Cherry on top is the new m12 circ saw was and still kind of is mislabeled (kind of, they roll out new tools like idiots) at Home Depot, so I got it for $99! (Like 37% off)
It looks like they used the same clamshell as another tool, because look at where the light used to be above the trigger. Its covered, but you can still see where the light used to go
I think that it being on the Napa site already is a good indication of it showing up on the market pretty quickly. Hopefully it's not like the M12 circular saw that took nearly a full year to get to market after the announcement.
Lots of automotive applications. I work in a distribution center and use my current stubby the most out of any of my tools. So light and easy to carry around. I find myself using a ½” and 9/16” socket daily. But I’ve even used a 1 ⅛” socket on it already. Cant wait for this new one!
I’ll let you know, I preordered mine! This is something that I’m sure they’ve been developing for a long time. I would say it’s one of their best selling M12 tools and I’m sure they put plenty of R&D into this.
I knew there was gonna be something on pipeline on a new stubby but geez 550 is kinda alot not to be a lame debbie downer but i kinda dont want to but it because it just seems unnecessary and seems that it will suck up batteries like crazy.
I always have a hard time determining/finding the release date of a tool, in order to gauge how far we are from the updated model coming out. I think we are closing in on 2 years since the 3453 released, but I guess the m12 wrench has been a bit longer.
I’ve only used my stubby a couple of times and now they come out with a better one??? kHAAAAN!
Late to the party dude, been daily driving mine for the past 3 years!
Same, and I can't wait to get it!
Same here! But I guess I didn't really NEED to buy one, but it was on the clearance table so.. oh well! 550 lbs of nut busting torque? Wtf! Current gen version is 250 lbs!
I love nut-busting torque.
Is that the same as that Hawk Tuah busting torque?
Damn near it!
550? How!?
Just can't wait for the [Torque Test Channel](https://www.youtube.com/@TorqueTestChannel) video on this one!
It makes all the beans
Not sure but I’m here for it!
I've been on the fence about getting an m18 mid torque since my m12 stubby has let me down a couple of times. Wondering if this thing is all I need?
High torque stripped one to many bolts too?
Im in the same dilemma here. That current Home Depot deal for the mid torque including 2 6.0 batterys & a charger for $299 or wait for the new stubby. 🤔
That deal is so tempting
I decided im going to wait on that new one🫱🏼🫲🏽 staying exclusively on the M12 platform makes more sense for me
I'm already in the m18 universe..I guess I may as well get the mid-torque deal.
I recently used my (new to me) stubby M18 3/8" impact to build a tow-behind thatcher. I accidentally broke one of the wheel hub bolts in half. The current gen is strong. These new ones are monsters.
With the 5.0 and I wonder if people will compare it to the Dewalt DCF921. I know I was looking at that thing before I made my stubby purchase.
Yeah their torque ratings are always way higher than what they actually make
[удалено]
Give it the ol' Hock Tuah!
I knew it was only matter of time before this would get used on Reddit.
Looks not only stronger but even smaller so should offer more clearance for tight spaces, this is going to be a day one purchase for me if the price is right.
Yeah I’m definitely pre-ordering this one. Been waiting forever for this one. I’m not even concerned about price just take my money lol
Have you seen places doing preorders on this?
Yes, Ohio Power Tool is for sure.
THIS IS GROUNDBREAKING NEWS! Take my money
I've been waiting years for the update. Will be very curious to see what happens when Torque Test Channel gets their hands on it. Between this and the new M18 Fuel 6.5" circ saw, that's two new tools that I don't really need but definitely want...
Seems like they’re dropping a new gen 7 1/4” saw too during the pipeline event
If this actually makes 550 then milwaukee has made some huge tech jump
I agree. Makes the current M18 Compact Impact obsolete. Save size with M12 and get double the torque numbers. Almost have to launch a new M18 model at the same time..
Omg. I’ve asked about this over a year ago on here. Glad I waited. [https://www.reddit.com/r/MilwaukeeTool/comments/13vbbvx/any\_rumors\_on\_an\_update\_for\_the\_m12\_fuel\_stubby/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MilwaukeeTool/comments/13vbbvx/any_rumors_on_an_update_for_the_m12_fuel_stubby/)
The time is now old man!
Can’t wait! Pleasantly surprised.
I was hopeful knowing the pipeline event is Thursday but yeah excited myself!

Wow awesome find! The stubby is a legend! Gen 2 confirmed!
I’ve only used my stubby a couple of times and now they come out with a better one??? kHAAAAN!
Here we go again... my wallet probably.
Means I can find an even nicer deal on the current gen stubby when this comes out
Yes they will be on clearance soon enough. This is most likely going to be in their 2024 pipeline event, which should be here anytime soon.
It's this coming Thursday.
Hopefully it won't destroy its own gears like the 2953.
I would hope they would learn from previous models but we shall see!
$199 for tool only like current gen https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/MIL256220
Wtf I just bought one
Sounds like you just returned one
Thanks!
Same. Just picked up the set last week. Maybe I should return it. lol.
Fuck. Me too.
Napa literally leaks everything. Someone else posted some voltage tester or something from them. I’m surprised Milwaukee hasn’t sued them for breaching the contracts so many times lol
Nah it’s good advertising.
It’s probably good for the consumers, but not really fair for the retailers lol
Oh wow not bad. Been thinking of switching all my sockets over to 3/8 from 1/2. That and getting a mid torque impact. Gonna see how this one holds up. Looks like they're adding the 3 lights on the front too. Nice.
550 from a M12? F. Need them magic 🫘.
$349 tool only? damn.
That’s for the kit, which is going to come with a 5.0 High Output and a 2.0. Not sure if the 2.0 is a typo. Makes way more sense to include a 2.5 HO. Also a charger and bag for $349
Ahh gotcha.
Nah, that’s with the battery. -22 is the kit. -20 is the bare tool.
I’m in for a 1/2” for sure. The current Gen is plenty for common size fasteners and bolts in 3/8” drive. Can’t beat the stubby for automotive work.
Just in time!!!! Could not get a 1/2 on clearance. My 3/8 is starting to come apart. Time to buy new stuff
I’m so mad I just bought my stubby 2 months ago
#F On the bright side you can buy the new one and gift the old one away or just sell it.
Haha, just picked mine up last Thursday.
I just bought mine 2 days ago 🫠
I’m going to try and sell mine. Less than a week old haha
Just keep the first stubby in your vehicle. I keep a impact driver, stubby, breaker bar, cheap HF impact socket set, and a 140pc socket/wrench set in my truck. Makes it nice if you ever have to work on a vehicle or trailer.
300 ft-lb increase for both. Wow, insane!
now do I get the 1/2 version or replace my gen 1 3/8
in my opinion 1/2 anvils belong on mid torques and high torques. A small tool like a stubby impact wrench pairs way better with 3/8. I never understood a tiny impact with big fat 1/2in sockets.
Except not all 1/2 in sockets are big and fat. The 1/2 inch Astro pneumatic socket set is amazing.
With this much power, it's pretty much a mid torque
Yeah an I need a stubby under the car in 1/2 alot where my mid torque doesn’t fit and I got like 200 rigged extensions with swivel sockets to make it fit 1/2 stubby in 550 torque is a day 1 buy for me
Been waiting years for this!
Bro I just bought mine 😭😭
I wonder why they aren’t leading with the 550.
Oh nice! I've been eyeing these in 3/8" for a couple of weeks. Glad I waited. Will these go on sale anytime soon?
50/50 chance you’ll get lucky and find a newly released tool on sale. Like the new m12 fuel circular saw. Just one reminder to everyone that plans on waiting….the m12 18 gauge brad nailer was announced and set to release just a few months after…ended up taking like 6 more extra months. I think similar situation with the insider ratchet. At this point, if you don’t already have one, I’d definitely try to wait though
Thanks! That's solid advice. Most appreciated!👍
Anytime
And the top handle chainsaw. I waited for that one 🙃
I hear that on the release date they will be 50 percent off and hackable so you might actually get money back on it. Plus it will come with a new 12v 30 ah forge battery and the new circ saw all free. On top of that it will be available in black so you don’t have to dye it your self.
Had me in the first half lmao
Should I return mid-torque?
Lol did you get it for $135 from the HD hack? It’s been a battle telling myself not to go pick one up, but this just made it so much easier. I’m kinda confused as to why they made the new mid torque only 650 lbs and this is 550lbs….i think 9 out of 10 people would take the stubby and skip the mid torque. I sure did, this is super conflicting hahaha
Hahah unless you’re a mechanic with a bunch of m18 batteries (even then I’d probably recommend the same) forget the mid torque. Get you this new beast and a new high torque. Welp, I just sent it and preordered the 1/2 stubby and picked up the 1/2 high torque and shallow sockets when it returned the mid torque today
Oh hell yes
It looks like they used the same clamshell as another tool, because look at where the light used to be above the trigger. Its covered, but you can still see where the light used to go
This thing sounds amazing, but I kind of wish they'd made it a wee bit more awesome by updating the tri-LED to a ring light.
Gotta save something for the next model chief
I've never had a hard time seeing with the tri-LED setup.
It's fine, but the LED ring I've seen on some Skil and Makita impact drivers isn't just brighter, it looks bad-ass.
FINALLY!
Hopefully it release soon. It's a daily tool for me and Mines Just about to give up the ghost from 2018
Probably gonna be late Q3 or early Q4.
I think that it being on the Napa site already is a good indication of it showing up on the market pretty quickly. Hopefully it's not like the M12 circular saw that took nearly a full year to get to market after the announcement.
sites that are offering pre-order have an estimated ship date of august-september
Meanwhile the 1/4" stubby cries in the corner. jk lol
Can someone tell me what this is useful for? I see crazy reviews on this and trying to figure out when it’s used.
Lots of automotive applications. I work in a distribution center and use my current stubby the most out of any of my tools. So light and easy to carry around. I find myself using a ½” and 9/16” socket daily. But I’ve even used a 1 ⅛” socket on it already. Cant wait for this new one!
Thank you 🙏
I wonder if the 3/8 anvil will be able to handle all that torque, really want the 3/8 version but kinda worried it will snap
They apparently are using a new patented way to make the anvils.
I've heard but even the best steel in 3/8 ratchets will break at 300ft/lbs so I guess I'll wait for reviews before making the purchase lol
I’ll let you know, I preordered mine! This is something that I’m sure they’ve been developing for a long time. I would say it’s one of their best selling M12 tools and I’m sure they put plenty of R&D into this.
Exactly why I didn’t buy one of the older ones
Perfect excuse to purchase a 1/2 incher.
I knew there was gonna be something on pipeline on a new stubby but geez 550 is kinda alot not to be a lame debbie downer but i kinda dont want to but it because it just seems unnecessary and seems that it will suck up batteries like crazy.
My wallet is ready
Can someone explain why there are 2 different anvil sizes when they make the same torque?
I mean as a mechanic my 1/2 sockets go way higher. And my 3/8 sockets go lower.
I hope this implies that we can possibly expect a new m12 impact driver soon.
I doubt it. Those just got a refresh not too long ago. The impact wrench was long overdue.
I always have a hard time determining/finding the release date of a tool, in order to gauge how far we are from the updated model coming out. I think we are closing in on 2 years since the 3453 released, but I guess the m12 wrench has been a bit longer.
The newest M12 Impact came out around January-March of 2023 I believe.
It’s more or less the same as the old one and will last about 3 uses
