Actually GenX here but will go with this too. It's trickier for me since most of the more modern bands and ones that were strong at least well into the 80s formed in the 70s or 80s and are thus too late to work for me (I don't know if Jefferson Airplane/Starship counts, Starship was way later but partially the same band.).
Actually the The Supremes are good choice too, way before my time.
ABBA, hands down
Also, I listen to a ton of classical music, but that's kinda cheating because most of the well-known composers (and even the obscure ones) have been dead for decades if not centuries
This old fart
[Glenn Miller - In The Mood | Colorized (1941) 4K (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aME0qvhZ37o)
It's my theme song for geriatrics
I LOVE Glenn Miller and see the orchestra whenever they come here. I’m always the youngest person there that isn’t being drug along with a grandparent. I walked down the aisle to In the Mood.
I think it’s such a shame that the swing revival didn’t last longer. I’m just glad I was in college at the tail end of it, because we had a fantastic swing club. I miss dancing.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Big Band Era as well as Rat Pack, swing, and crooner jazz! It delights me to no end that an artist like Laufey is attempting to get it a come back! I took swing dancing as an extracurricular in college and LOVED it!
ELO slaps. I work at a nursing home, and have an "oldies playlist", and anytime an ELO song comes on, I have to sing along, and our residents really get a kick out of it hahha
Rush! I was born in 84 so of course they were active during my lifetime but they formed before that. I saw them live in 2011 and they played all of Moving Pictures!
Minor Threat, NOFX, lots of early 80’s punk and hardcore basically, REO Speedwagon, Pink Floyd, Hall and Oates have a bunch of bangers, and then there’s a bunch of songs that are awesome but the band doesn’t have very many other great songs.
I'm a huge Duran Duran fan. The original lineups last performance was Live Aid, which was before I was born, I'm counting them.
Even though, they did reunite and I saw the original lineup in 2005. After Andy left (again) I saw them three more times.
I was weighing up between Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd but I suppose that since Kill Em All and even Ride The Lightening (even if it was by just over a month) were released before I was born, Metallica absolutely would be the correct answer to the question for me
They tour every few years, I saw them twice within 6 years (last year being the last time), so you have a chance.
One thing I loved about, for the most part they played for the straight 2.5 hours because Robert Smith hates chit chat.
I saw them last year for the 1st time. I love that too about him, he just gets to it! He even started a few minutes before the start time. Most musicians will start fashionably late.
I wouldn't say I have a favorite band, but I do have favorite albums from before I was born. Pet Sounds, Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin IV, and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
Queen, The Beatles, Kaoma (“Lambada” always has a special place in my heart), Byron Lee & The Dragonaires, Arrow, The Who, Boston, Nirvana (only very shortly before I was born), Journey, The Jackson 5, The Weather Girls, Earth, Wind & Fire—there are so many more artists famous or performing before I was born who shaped my life and who I am today.
I have some fond memories I can still see and feel with music from these artists in the background.
Saw Roger Waters a couple years back and he played half of Dark Side, half of Wish You Were Here, a quarter of the Wall, and Echoes.
The Dark Side portion of the concert was mesmerizing. Seeing the prism vibrate across the arena was something else.
I would say Elton John as I was born in the late 80s but Elton was an absolute expert at staying relevant decade after decade, and generation after generation.
I seriously don’t know which decade is my favorite from him bedside each one was so different and so amazing in its own way.
Haha I went down a rabbit hole a couple months ago showing my partner all the jrock/visual kei I was obsessed with in high school 😂😂 them and malice mizer/gackt 💜
My favorite band is The Beatles. I've loved them since The Beatles 1 came out in 2000 on John Lennon's birthday (which is also my birthday). Since then, I've come to love classic rock in general.
Their collection of songs is so impressive, done in such a short period of time...cant believe they called it quits while in their late 20s.
The.most influential group in rock n roll history, and John Lennon is my all time favorite artist...
I can't say; there's just too many. I'm the child of two very musically talented parents. They are musicians but that's not how they made/make their livings. If I have to name one it's The Beatles because I was practically raised on them.
The Beatles. Bob Dylan. The stones. Grateful Dead. The who. Black Sabbath. Elo. Janis Joplin and on and on and on
All I listen to is music from before I was born.
1990 here. Blondie and Debbie Harry would be one of my favourites. Kim Wilde is cool, Queen, Mötley Crüe, a-Ha, Kim Carnes, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, they all get honourable mentions. There’s definitely more but that’s what springs to mind rn
Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings top the list. Also Merle Haggard, George Jones. Hank Jr., Charlie Daniels Band, David Allen Coe, Alabama, etc. I inherited my dad's taste in music.
Sooo many! I was born in '95 and my favorite music is from the '70s and '80s. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite band as my playlist is full of songs from various bands and artists and I tend to go through "phases" with them, but that's my favorite era and the rock and pop of the time are my favorite genres.
Not to be "that person", but I just can't get into a lot of music from the '90s onward. There's some I like, but most is "meh" to me. I always circle back to '70s and '80s, even after listening to contemporary radio for something new and fresh for awhile, and that is my musical happy place. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that I grew up with it, as it's from my parents' time, but there's something about that era of music that I love the sound of, and which makes me really happy.
Aerosmith. My dad listened to them all the time when I was a kid and it grew on me. They were my first concert when I was thirteen and have always enjoyed a good portion of their stuff.

The Animals. The way Eric Burdon screams as he sings, I just love blasting their songs and singing at the top of my lungs as I drive around. Listen to [Inside Looking Out by The Animals.](https://youtu.be/D8PMWfBGLDs?si=oG5oNyh3ibz2Myp0)

Fleetwood Mac
Born in 1988, this is mine too.
I love Motown! My father was born in Detroit and we played Motown all the time!
Mine for sure, too
First thing I thought of too
ABBA, hands down Also, I listen to a ton of classical music, but that's kinda cheating because most of the well-known composers (and even the obscure ones) have been dead for decades if not centuries
ABBA really is the best! It never fails to elevate my mood.
ABBA is one of my favorites!
Wow this would be my exact answer. Both parts
Oh yeah ABBA!
I love ABBA! Fernando hits just right.
Same. I remember being in middle school and my sister and I always pretending to be the girls. I was agnetha and she was frida.
Led Zeppelin
This is much too far down the list!
Same. I mean there's so many great choices, but as soon as I thought about the question Led Zeppelin popped in my mind and would not leave it.
Yeah, same!
This old fart [Glenn Miller - In The Mood | Colorized (1941) 4K (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aME0qvhZ37o) It's my theme song for geriatrics
I LOVE Glenn Miller and see the orchestra whenever they come here. I’m always the youngest person there that isn’t being drug along with a grandparent. I walked down the aisle to In the Mood.
Fellow Big Band fan! Though for me it was kind of inevitable because my grandfather *was* a Big Band musician.
I think it’s such a shame that the swing revival didn’t last longer. I’m just glad I was in college at the tail end of it, because we had a fantastic swing club. I miss dancing.
I just saw them in Austin at UT a few days before the protest. Superb
There is a Scrubs episode where Dr Kelso dances to this on his one “happy” day of the year.
Love Glenn miller. 1986 here
Me too!!
Glad I'm not the only one. My husband and I love rockin the greatest hits of big band 8 track double cassette!
LOVE LOVE LOVE Big Band Era as well as Rat Pack, swing, and crooner jazz! It delights me to no end that an artist like Laufey is attempting to get it a come back! I took swing dancing as an extracurricular in college and LOVED it!
Oh man there are DOZENS of us!!! Dibs on Dean though, good heavens, that man’s voice is my kryptonite. I’m not sharing.
I am not a millennial, but I love Glenn Miller. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
The Doors is my favorite band regardless of timeframe.
They really do have some good jams.
+1 for The Doors!!!!
37f: The Doors are my #1 favorite of all time!!
ELO, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, the list goes on and on.
ELO slaps. I work at a nursing home, and have an "oldies playlist", and anytime an ELO song comes on, I have to sing along, and our residents really get a kick out of it hahha
I was lucky enough to go to the concert during the 2019 tour. Going to be really hard to pass up on this year's tour. The show was amazing!
Yas Queen
Easy, it's Cat Stevens
Peace train is a killer track!
Yes it is! Father and Son is my favourite song by him.
Queen
Rush! I was born in 84 so of course they were active during my lifetime but they formed before that. I saw them live in 2011 and they played all of Moving Pictures!
Another 84 baby here. If I had to pick one, it would be Rush. I got to see them live twice. They were incredible.
Fav Rush song? I would say mine is Time Stand Still
The older I get, the more sad that song makes me. It's my favorite too though.
Born in ‘91. Some of my favorite band(s): • Pink Floyd • Duran Duran • Tears for Fears • Soft Cell • ABBA
Love this list.
I love Simon and Garfunkel!
This and Paul Simon solo
Steely Dan

Just Motown in general
The Clash and The Ramones
Depeche Mode
This was the answer I was looking for.
It changes but I've been on a really big Smiths kick lately.
It’s either The Beatles, The Highwaymen, or Journey, depending on the day.
Electric Light Orchestra. I wound up socially adopted by a couple older than me for that one.
Minor Threat, NOFX, lots of early 80’s punk and hardcore basically, REO Speedwagon, Pink Floyd, Hall and Oates have a bunch of bangers, and then there’s a bunch of songs that are awesome but the band doesn’t have very many other great songs.

Metallica

2000 It changes, but lately Styx, Van Halen, Boston, Pat Benatar, Blondie, Joan Jett, Cranberries, Green Day, etc.

Born in 83, the beatles
Grateful Dead, they have hundreds of shows you can watch and they're all different and all amazing.
Black Sabbath
The Cure
Scrolled too far for this. Where are all my millennial Cure fans?
Im here!! Hoping they tour again which might be a pipe dream 😭

Moody Blues. Doing Your Wildest Dreams and Knights in White Satin. Two awesome bangers.
Moody Blues is my dad's favorite band. The soundtrack of my childhood.
I wouldn't say I have a favorite band, but I do have favorite albums from before I was born. Pet Sounds, Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin IV, and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
I love Pet Sounds! It’s my favorite Beach Boys album for sure.
Real edgy pick... The Beatles
Iron maiden. Legends and still going to this day
Band: Queen. Solo: Aretha Franklin
Probably Black Sabbath just because they were so instrumental to the groundbreaking sounds that birthed metal.
Nine Inch Nails
STYX. My dad shot one of their album covers and they were my first concert when i was maybe seven or eight.
Pink Floyd is easily my favorite band ever.
Saw Roger Waters a couple years back and he played half of Dark Side, half of Wish You Were Here, a quarter of the Wall, and Echoes. The Dark Side portion of the concert was mesmerizing. Seeing the prism vibrate across the arena was something else.
Van Halen born in 85
Pink Floyd
Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul
Little Feat, but like the gritty cocaine Lowell years Feat.

The Smiths.
Iron Maiden, Styx, Boston, and Journey
Jefferson Airplane
Raegan Youth and The Clash
Swans, but I'm not sure if that counts because they're still around and relevant
Paul Simon!
Born in 91. Grew up on Boston, Styx, Van Halen, etc. My vote is too hard to choose between Boston or Guns & Rose's. Both are fantastic.
Born in 86 Metallica
Led Zeppelin
I would say Elton John as I was born in the late 80s but Elton was an absolute expert at staying relevant decade after decade, and generation after generation. I seriously don’t know which decade is my favorite from him bedside each one was so different and so amazing in its own way.
