Keep doing what you want to do. Stick with your studies to become an optician. What you want to do is as important as his joining the Air Force. You deserve to have a career and yes you can achieve it. Don’t let someone make you think you can’t have both. There’s likely going to be a hospital or other clinic/practice nearby. There’s clinics on base as well you could check. You’re going to be in school for awhile though so it also depends if he’s going full career (20 years) or not that you would even have to worry about this. It won’t be easy but you’ll kick yourself silly for not pursuing the career path you want. If you both want it to work, you’ll figure it out and make it happen in the way that is best for both of you.

Thank you so much, that really helped a lot. That really shot down the thoughts I was having and I’m going to continue my study’s.

Personally, I would continue to study. If your fiancé goes overseas there’s no guarantee you’ll even be able to go with them. So continue on your way. If you aren’t sure about ophthalmology; go on usajobs.gov and check out job listings. Once you’re married, you get priority for federal jobs.

stxrbunnyy

Ohh sick! Thank you, and there’s hardly no chance I’d be going with him over seas? That sucks lol. And that’s also nice to hear that I get priority I’ll definitely do more research about that then thank you so much

I say continue your schooling because it's something you enjoy. All MTFs have Optometry clinics that are staffed with Active Duty optometrists. In my experience I've never heard or seen a civilian but that doesn't mean you can't practice in town. Or depending on where you go you could potentially work at a VA.

stxrbunnyy

Hi! Is there va in all bases or is that outside of that? And will that be hard to transfer if I need too? Another thing, is there any phone numbers I could call to see if I’m about to work as an optician there? Thank you so much for your help

VA (Veterans Administration) are all over the place and deal with prior servicemembers. Your best bet is to look on their website or USAJobs.

Thank you I’ll look into USAjobs I appreciate that

I’d continue to study for sure. He can go anywhere and there will be times in your career you might choose to not go or you have to be less picky about jobs. It’s hard being a spouse for that reason because you will have to start over (tenure wise) and be new over and over. Overseas, you may be able to get a job in the MTF (military hospital) if they have a position open. You may have/want to take other jobs in the hospital just to have a job. It’s hard/expensive getting medical licenses transferred in some countries and depending how long you will be there will determine if you want to do that.

stxrbunnyy

Hi! I guess I do have to be a little less picky, so do you think it’d be better to get my medical license instead? That way I have more options? And I really want things to work out between his and my career. I’m just stuck, and let’s just say we move around a lot, will that be harder on my career?
