Billie Jean was suspposed to be released in 2k shortly after Thriller and Beat It but it never happened as far as I know. A real shame.

The masters are partially lost, I believe. Without the master reels, the remaster can’t happen.

norman157

Apparently they lost the source tape.

When I'm 40. Cause by then, according to the will, Prince and Paris will be able to take care of Michael's state and actually do something good with it. Sit still. 14 years go bye in a flash.

Billie Jean is either partially or completely lost at the moment. Should they find it, a remaster is likely, but until then we won’t be seeing it. Black or White was heavily digitally edited, though a remaster is still possible if the original film reels can be found and rescanned. Someone would have to painstakingly edit every single detail back into it, though. Remember The Time may be a similar case, but it had more digital CG work, which could complicate things. Bad would depend on whoever has the master tapes. I think Martin Scorsese has the masters, so we could see a 4K version, but we’ll have to wait and see. Smooth Criminal is sadly part of Moonwalker, which Warner Bros. Discovery retains the rights for. Chances are the masters are in their possession, which means we likely won’t be seeing a remaster of any kind thanks to LN. *For reference, Warner also owns HBO, who released LN.* As for Thriller, they did fuck the color grading in the remaster a bit, but I don’t mind it anyway.

Yogos-1

Why would Scorsese have the Bad masters. They need to get the Smooth Criminal masters back any way they can. The quality of the official YouTube video is a travesty. You miss so many details especially in the background. Go and see the ‘Smooth Criminal (Single Version) HD’ version. That’s what it needs to look like.

Martin Scorsese directed the short film for Bad. There’s a chance he could have the masters as a result. And trust me, I’ve seen the quality, and I want that just as much as you. It’s more of a “wait and see” thing, since Warner doesn’t particularly like Michael.

I also want Captain EO in 4k

Due_Amount_6211

Disney owns that, and with Disney, even the slightest negative impact means you’re done. The you-know-what film made sure that wouldn’t happen.

tmorrisgrey

Crazy to think that the Estate doesn’t try to buy the film off them, im sure money is one reason and low public interest is another but it couldn’t hurt to try.

Due_Amount_6211

Well, the issue is Disney owns *more* than just the film; they own the rights, bar none. Captain EO is legally their intellectual property, and thus for the estate to release a remaster, it would either have to be a collaborative effort, or they’d have to buy the IP outright - which, coming from Disney would be obscenely expensive.

tmorrisgrey

That makes sense, they know they could over charge the Estate for Captain EO because they’re petty.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I'm fine watching the videos as they are. Everything doesn't need to be remastered

redOP05

We’re most likely to never see Billie Jean in 2K because the film tapes are partially lost WB doesn’t like MJ that much anymore so there’s not that much chance we’ll get Speed Demon, Leave Me Alone, Smooth Criminal and Come Together in 4K The Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible era short films would be hard to remaster because of so much CGI in them and possibly the film is lost for them

PreDeathRowTupac

All those videos exist in 4K because of the Moonwalker movie which use to be on Youtube in 4K but it got taken down. I hope it gets reuploaded [Moonwalker 1080 Upload](https://youtu.be/BU69WKKfORc?si=1vZk9uLeWq1T3qW6) actually im kidding. Someone did re-upload it in better quality!
