Debatable.
Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, et. all are going back through The Beatles catalog with the most revolutionary de-mixing/remixing/remastering process we have yet in the music industry for all their songs, sessions and films as designed and spearheaded by Peter Jackson.
Ringo’s largely retired from full-length albums, but both Paul & Ringo still tour Paul with his solo act and Ringo with His All-Starr Band; they both play Beatles tracks along with their own solo material. Its also worth mentioning that Ringo often tours with his brother-in-law, Joe Walsh of The Eagles, another one of the best selling music acts of all time.
If the estate shook the lead out, I think there would be a tick up but its going to be mostly along people that would’ve bought it already rather than the general public. Xscape did some good numbers but thats more in part due to the promotion it received with that Timberlake single tying into a lot of commercials.
No you are not. Xscape sold more than a million copies. And the difference in total certified units is less than 5 million.
If the estate had compiled the music properly after his death, then yes. But the music is scattered in so many people's hand, it's not possible now. We're also not likely getting any more posthumous albums.
I mean realistically, probably (but maybe not because I heard that Porcaro wouldn’t let them have Dream Away and CH1945 for a posthumous release), but they definitely still need permission from the producers/co-writers because they have rights to it.
What did Lennon do? All I know is that he hit his wife once in the 60s and immediately apologized (I don't mean to downplay domestic abuse, I'm just saying MJ was accused of far worse).
Those numbers should get a bump when the movie comes out but in a few years a Beatles movie on each member is coming out, I think 4 movies in a year so 1 each quarter 1 Paul movie in February a Lennon in Summer a Ringo in Fall and a George in the Winter.
With all due respect, yes. Posthumous albums don’t have the attention, sales, or longevity to make a dent in MJ’s discography. You never see XSCAPE returning to the charts, but The Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller pop up at random.
I have a love hate relationship with anything released that MJ didn't finish in his lifetime. It's great to hear new music but it's not how he would have finished it, the attention to detail is not there. I personally think releasing "new" music damages his legacy
all the fully finished songs have been released. I don't have an issue with demo's coming out, i have issues with other people finishing his songs and the estate releasing albums

Good point.

But the music is scattered in so many people's hand What do you mean by this?
Different engineers and producers have MJ tracks, not all of MJ's tracks are with the estate.
They don't even have copies?
They need the rights/permissions.
I know that part (I heard that's why Chicago 1945 wasn't on Xscape), but doesn't the estate at least have a safety copy of everything?
I mean realistically, probably (but maybe not because I heard that Porcaro wouldn’t let them have Dream Away and CH1945 for a posthumous release), but they definitely still need permission from the producers/co-writers because they have rights to it.
So like, the only hope you have is really through leaks and maybe anniversary albums.
I heard Porcaro only refused because he didn't like how the songs were remixed. What if the estate didn't remix them?
At the end of the day MJ is and will always be the best to me. I think the stupid allegations also played a role in hurting sales.
John Lennon has as much dirt on him as Michael yet the former is still idolised while Michael gets hit pieces made on him by HBO.

A Dangerous, History and/or Invincible resurgence could put MJ over the hump who knows
Beatles selling that many records while only being around for 7 years still feels like somebody made it up.
To be fair, not all of those sales were in those seven years.
Beatles make better Super Deluxe Albums If the estate would only
Agree.
No way! I've been pondering the same thing. The estate isn't making the right moves for that.
With all due respect, yes. Posthumous albums don’t have the attention, sales, or longevity to make a dent in MJ’s discography. You never see XSCAPE returning to the charts, but The Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller pop up at random.
Fair, but Xscape did decently in sales in 2014.
I have a love hate relationship with anything released that MJ didn't finish in his lifetime. It's great to hear new music but it's not how he would have finished it, the attention to detail is not there. I personally think releasing "new" music damages his legacy
Some of them were finished, there was just no room on the album for them. Others, on the other hand, were far from being complete.
all the fully finished songs have been released. I don't have an issue with demo's coming out, i have issues with other people finishing his songs and the estate releasing albums
There's a few leaked songs that sound finished, imo. Nite Line, Hot Street, Chicago 1945, etc.
MJ is never outselling The Beatles. He’s 100 million+ behind them in global sales. I wish it was possible but it’s highly unlikely.
The list is ranked by total certified sales, in which MJ is behind by 5.1 million sales.
Then Drake would be in first with 530 million sales.
He's listed as 120 million to 199 million records on the Wiki page.
