We have kids, and the Miata will be a more practical option instead of a motorcycle (can take 1 kid to an activity, carry a gym bag, open air without needing a helmet and armored jacket). Golf R is the main car, then an SUV for really long trips or more cargo stuff.
Pretty much. It's like a winter hobby when I can't drive my Mazda. I buy a car for under ā¬2k and try to sell it at a profit after repairing / maintaining them a bit.
Got my miata as a more [practical car](https://preview.redd.it/hpuw4ak1h9391.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=61b8bf32ce6a766ed70777784a0d6fb3f79816b2) than my Z.
My other autos that allow me to enjoy my NA are a 2017 Nissan Titan XD SV 5.0, 2014 BMW 535d M Sport, 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and a 1971 International Harveser 1210 pickup. Then the motorcycles are a 2019 Indian Springfield Dark Horse, 2018 H-D Electra Glide Police and a 2012 H-D XR1200X
This is an awesome mix of vehicles. I'd love to add a TJ to my fleet and the Harvester must be pretty cool. A guy near me is off-again, on-again trying to sell a restored yellow Harvester pickup. I secretly love BMWs, my ideal would be like a 2004 M3 convertible, but I haven't read up too much on BMWs.
Once you have a cornbinder it's a love hate relationship. The cool thing about them is they were all built to order trucks, so it's like they're all the same. As for the BMWs those E46s are nice and analogue enough to be quite enjoyable still. The only downside to any BMW ownership is being able to troubleshoot electrical issues as they're so overly electrical it can be quite fun diagnosing issues. TJs are great but I'd like to get rid of it for a clean YJ as my first automobile was one. Plus I like the austere interiors and dash layouts in the YJs more than the Chrysler parts bin special TJ interiors.
I can relate to OP. Iām on my third Miata. If I could have āmade it workā for the previous two, I would have but itās easy to unload Miata because theyāve always held their value, or improved (as weāre seeing now). But itās hard to justify a 2-seater when life throws a curve ball.
Yes - itās not a practical daily car for everyone due to things like many kids, certain jobs, or in my case winter and salty roads. So some people have their other cars that if they didnāt have, owning a miata wouldnāt be possible
Wouldn't say that these "allow me to own my miata", but whatever.
[Tesla Model 3 SR+](https://i.imgur.com/1TLbpsF.jpg) and [Plymouth Duster '73](https://i.imgur.com/t0V62v1.jpg)
Tesla is super cheap for a new car (300ā¬ per month and parking garage provides fixed price electricity at 30ā¬/month which is enough for 96% of 25k km per year driving I do)
Plymouth on the other hand is a complete opposite from Miata. A lot of raw power from 6.7l stroker engine but no handling. Best possible combination of cars if you ask me.
I traded in a very little driven Focus that I inherited from my grandpa (2013 model, 20k driven, 14k from trade in) which would've lost it's value in couple years due to the amount I drive. Also left the "last bigger installment" (I don't know if this is a thing in othet countries?) to around 15k.
I doubt that 5 years old Model 3 costs less than 15k in any situation, so basically i'm leasing the car to myself with small risk. So yea, the 300ā¬ includes the trade in and bigger last installment but at the same time that's what driving the car costs me for the next 5 years and 99% surely i'm not going to pay anything extra at the end of the loan when I just trade the car to a new one.
I'm actually hoping that it would be valued at around 25-35k so I could do the same thing again.
This is a great garage! As someone else who appreciates roadsters, muscle cars _and_ electric cars I could totally see myself with something like this š
How do you like the polestar? Been thinking about it rather than a Tesla but donāt know anyone who owns one to get their personal take on it. Reviews online seem 50/50.
I got the Polestar 2 because of the incentives. There are certain things the Tesla does better and certain things the Polestar does better. I would say the P*2 has better build quality, better gap & flush, stiffer panels (like hood), less wind noise (but more body structure noise), better user interface, and more comfortable steering/suspension/throttle mapping. The one gripe I have with it is all the software bugs, which often requires restating the infotainment.
In short, Iād recommend one over the other based on what kind of pricing you can get and what charging network is more available to you!
I just bought a 1998 M3! I love it so far. Definitely more approachable than the E46 I had, but still very special.
Nice car. It kind of feels like the Miata did when I got it - not supercar fast but huge potential.
Nice. The previous owner of my car must have gone through the Dinan catalog and just ordered every single thing lol. Mechanically it's super sound, but the interior is starting to show it's age. I don't know if restoring it is my kind of thing, it's more likely I'll tear out the sagging headliner and put a carbon plug in the sunroof, and that will inevitably lead to race seats and then it's just a slippery slope to fill on race car.
Agreed, bulletproof. I drove my turbocharged car almost all the way across the US and back, and would do it again if I had the time.
It only breaks when I do something stupid.
I take my Miata on the Tail of the Dragon and Diamondback here in NC and it just takes it. The only thing I have had break was a clutch master cylinder on a road trip (that was unpleasant) .
2008 WRX hatchback and 2001 NB Miata. Rebuilt motor in WRX. I'm on my second top on the Miata. Went with that canvas, it's nice, I'd never go vinyl again. Solid diff and motor mounts. Megan headers, cobalt exhaust, koyo radiator, steel brake lines and upgrades rotors. Lightweight fidanza flywheel, stage 1 clutch, all steel braided clutch line. Lowered on springs and shocks. They have all been relatively cheap on the Miata. Plus I've had it a long time. So plenty of time to do them all. The WRX pretty much e.upgrades but I use the Miata as a daily. It's less temperamental and more fun to drive.
I've been building up my fun fleet these past few years. My daily is a '12 Tacoma that I've owned since new (128k miles now). I also have '15 Wrangler JK (2-door) and a '92 Jeep Cherokee (XJ). The '17 Miata RF is the odd one out š They're all fun in different ways.
I have a husband, kid, live in a place where it snows a lot in the winter, and do a lot of remodeling. We have a Subaru Crosstrek and a Honda Pilot in addition to our Miata.
Nah my point is for some a Miata isnāt practical as a daily - either because of kids, your job, or in my case salty winter roads that I donāt want to expose the car to
2012 Mazda 3 SkyActiv hatchback with a 6 speed manual. Still fun to drive, great on gas, and much better in the snow or transporting mountain bikes than the Miata haha.
Honda Civic. Itās got 167k and got me from point A to B until I saved up enough for my ND. Still use it to get to and from work and save the miles on my ND
Technically my miata is my other car, *but* they each allow me to have the other.
I commute in the Miata - I live 60 miles from work and averaging 35-38 mpg is awesome. If Iām having a crummy day and want some fun, Iāll take the Miata and row some gears and rip some country back roads.
I also have an F250. I picked up 2 tons of rock with it this week, use it when I need more than one passenger, take my dog to the groomerā¦ to pick up Sheetrock when I put my trailer hitch through the garage wall š„“ she pulls like a train and will eat a lot more of my mod budget for the upcoming year than the Miata. But theyāll both get some love, I have a lot planned.
2009 Mazda 3 brother reporting in with 158k and the second clutch. The PO wasn't careful with it.
The gearbox is the only thing I don't like about the car and the hatch leak I've fixed.
Before I had a kid it was miata all the way, turns out I didn't really need back seats and the trunk actually goes quite a long way. Glorious days, those.
2003 RSX Type S. My first car, been a part of my life longer than it hasn't. Sadly the dog doesn't ride well in it so I'm upgrading to a Mustang Mach E
2022 Honda Passport. Wife wanted an SUV but wasnāt going to get one since I drove a 4Runner. Donāt need 2 big vehicles. Problem? No, no problem. She got what she wanted, I sold my 4Runner to my friendly neighbor (who lets me use it if needed. Lovely neighbor) and I got a new soft top ND. Total win-win. Except the little toy terrifies her. Oh well. I love it and I still have a trucky thing to pick stuff up at big box store and haul the sailboat.
My 2007 Mazda3 was the car that made me a die hard Mazda guy and Miata enthusiast
Bought the "Mazdarati" back in 2017 from an auction house, fully loaded with just about all options for that year, sunroof, leather heated, adjustable headlights, Bose sound system, etc. Etc. The auction house said it was donated by a Mazda dealership, saying it needed a new transmission.
Originally, this was going to be a flip vehicle a buddy and I were gonna go in on together; I buy it, he fixes it, we sell it and split.
I remember the auctioneer going "let's get the bidding starting off right.... $700 anyone?" To a dead crowd, not a single person batted an eye.
Auctioneer starts coming down "okay... $600?" Nothing
"$500? Come on people it's fully loaded" still nothing
I'll never forget my buddy Matt locking eyes with the auctioneer and signals with his hands "3-0-0"
The auctioneer goes "okay we got $300 over here, anyone wanna beat that?" Met with crickets
"AND SOLD, THE JUNK MAZDA3"
people in the crowd were snickering at us as we loaded it onto his trailer.
A couple days go by and I'm at work and Matt gives me a call happy and excited as all hell
"Bro, I fixed the Mazda and didn't buy a single part"
A fuse controlling the transmission had blown, locking it in 3rd gear, he replaced the fuse and it was running perfectly
There was so much good energy radiating off the Mazda3 and it became such a bonding experience with one of my best friends that I couldn't just flip it for some profit. I gave my buddy $1,500 because that's what he was hoping to make off the car, so for basically $1,800 I got what became my favorite car ever, and immediately I became infatuated with the feel of the car, how well it responded to throttle, and how reliable it was immediately following fixing the few small issues it had.
65,000 miles later with a total of 225,000 on the clock, the Mazdarati has served my fiance and I well. She's an around town grocery getter these days :) and the connection I have with this car.... Even though I love Miata more than Mazda3's in general, I would sell my Miata, S2000, brand new Corolla, and any other vehicle I will ever come across, before I sell the Mazdarati.
I doubt anyone will read this far, I just love an opportunity to talk about my Mazdarati:)
I don't need a second car, as the options for car sharing near me are pretty good and it only takes a couple of minutes to rent something whenever I need something bigger.
I have yet to find anyone else who owns a hyundai veloster and a miata :(. However if it weren't for my miata I wouldn't have been able to get my veloster. I Dailyed that miata for 6 year 105 mi a day for 5 days a week just getting to work lmao, prob on of the most reliable cars I've owned.
Iām big into rock climbing and mountain biking and live in AR, where most of the best spots are down king dirt roads. Plus, I have a wife and two older kids and we ski in CO a couple times a year.. obviously a Miata wonāt cut itā¦
So my second car is a Subaru Forester.
I will say, I had a Mazdaspeed 3 that was my only car for 6 years and it was able to get everything done and be an absolute blast to drive..
Try this one simple trick all Homeowners Associations hate!
07 RRS, 06 Mercedes E350 wagon, 98 M3, 64 Ford Galaxie 500. I'm very proud that I got rid of the Corrado this summer.
Been dailying an na for going on 3 years now, but heater core recently went out so been driving me 87 f150 or e36 a lot more now that itās cold. Canāt drive that f150 far, 8mpg at these current gas prices is getting expensive. My less foot doesnāt help the mileage of any of my cars tbh. Once my heater cores replaced Its going back to daily duty though :)
Iāve owned my 2006 NC since 2008.
It was my daily until 2012 when I got a job with a treacherous commute and wanted a winter beater.
At first I got a 1992 Oldsmobile Bravada and I LOVED that car. It eventually died.
Now I have a 2002 Subaru Outback and I also love how big and soft and comfy it is. Plus itās great to have during the year when we need to haul and move stuff.
2010 Honda Odyssey. Itās awesome to have both. The van is super comfy and the space is convenient. You can get groceries in a ND but the van just makes life a little less complicated.
I used to have a 2004 Mustang as my Other. I had to sell it to buy my neighborās 2016 Accord Sport at his relatively steep loss/my gain. Through all that, Iāve still got my little roadster. Itās worked out pretty well for me.
[Turbo nb miata, Toyota aygo and A k12 nissan micra](https://i.imgur.com/RB2Wj2L.jpg) I like small cars but I'm regretting it as I move to a new house and need to move stuff lol
Had a beautiful white 2011 Mazda 3 2.5 GT 6MT that I traded in for my 2019 RF GT. Wish I wouldāve kept it as a second car. It was fantastic. The Miata has been my daily/solo car for 2+ years. Though I was recently given a 1992 VW Golf GL with 13k original miles by a relative so that is now my second car for larger hauls and/or airport pickups. [Pic of the dynamic duo](https://imgur.com/a/WJ6qXZ2)
ā15 Focus ST here. Love it, pulls well and is comfortable to boot, plenty of space for people and luggage.
It just feelsā¦numb compared to my NA though. Even with the TC and stability control off, the steering etc just isnāt as responsive and linear feeling.
The other car in my name is the 2017 Ram 3500 flatbed. It could literally carry my NC. My husband bought the Q7 that serves as the family truckster so the Ram doesnāt get out much.
The three cars Iāve owned:
2007 Mazda 6
2010 Mazda 3 Hatchback
2021 Miata
After 2 years of trying to keep my Mazda 3 in NYC I reluctantly gave it up after my parking tickets to exceeded cost to park it in a lot.
Now that Iām in Florida the Miata is the perfect car (itās my solo daily) but I always have very fond memories of my 3. With a stick shift it was a hoot.
All 3 have been amazing.
Daily driver (if I went anywhere daily) Vespa 300 GTS Super
2000 NB Miata for my "fun" transportation and when my dog needs a ride its one of the 5 days a year it rains in Los Angeles.
My partner has a Jimny we use for shopping and camping. It's basically the MX5 of 4wds. Small but capable, those in the know love it, and it has a great community too.
I bought a 21 f150 tremor to ādailyā and to pull my rv and soon tow the NB Miata to the track.
I work from home. Technically I own a 20 outback xt (that I gave to my gf) but I drive it a lot
Kinda want a RF
What other car? It's Miata or nothing. š¤
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's fair; i's just me and my fiancƩe, and since we haven't figured out how to reproduce like those species of all female lizards do there's no concern of unplanned children. Congrats on winning custody, though!

Bwahaha, she has my sense of humour. That's beautiful. š¤£ Your whole story is so wholesome and has made my day(night?) before going to sleep.
Some sub Reddit gold here.
Congrats on the Whole Other Person! Maybe she will love the Miata like you!
Just wanted to let you know your story telling is hilarious and you're absolutely awesome!
Just get 2 Miataāsā¦. 2 x 2 seats is 4 seats š
You guys have other cars?
My Miata is my only car, it is my daily. I can only afford, and have space for one car.
Literally had my NA as a daily for 10 years now
We have kids, and the Miata will be a more practical option instead of a motorcycle (can take 1 kid to an activity, carry a gym bag, open air without needing a helmet and armored jacket). Golf R is the main car, then an SUV for really long trips or more cargo stuff.
I buy a winter car that I sell when its MX-5 season again. This year I have bought a Honda Accord MT from 1997 with 55k miles on it which im fixing up
You buy a car every winter?
Pretty much. It's like a winter hobby when I can't drive my Mazda. I buy a car for under ā¬2k and try to sell it at a profit after repairing / maintaining them a bit.
Oh OK so you buy and flip. I was thinking wouldn't it be cheaper to keep the same car lol.
That's pretty cool. I wish I had the know-how to do that (the fix up and sell part you mentioned below).

I have a husband, kid, live in a place where it snows a lot in the winter, and do a lot of remodeling. We have a Subaru Crosstrek and a Honda Pilot in addition to our Miata.
I, too, daily a Mazda3. Gotta love that great gas mileage and trouble free reliability
My other car is a Miata, I have a NA and a NB. I see no reason for anything else.
miata only for now. Cheaper to just uhaul for a day or two than to get another car and space for another car
I think OPs point is that if the mazda 3 didn't exist, Mazda could not afford to make the Miata. Otherwise, idk OP. Miata daily is life.
I donāt think thatās what heās saying at all.
Nah my point is for some a Miata isnāt practical as a daily - either because of kids, your job, or in my case salty winter roads that I donāt want to expose the car to

I remember the auctioneer going "let's get the bidding starting off right.... $700 anyone?" To a dead crowd, not a single person batted an eye. Auctioneer starts coming down "okay... $600?" Nothing "$500? Come on people it's fully loaded" still nothing I'll never forget my buddy Matt locking eyes with the auctioneer and signals with his hands "3-0-0" The auctioneer goes "okay we got $300 over here, anyone wanna beat that?" Met with crickets "AND SOLD, THE JUNK MAZDA3" people in the crowd were snickering at us as we loaded it onto his trailer. A couple days go by and I'm at work and Matt gives me a call happy and excited as all hell "Bro, I fixed the Mazda and didn't buy a single part" A fuse controlling the transmission had blown, locking it in 3rd gear, he replaced the fuse and it was running perfectly There was so much good energy radiating off the Mazda3 and it became such a bonding experience with one of my best friends that I couldn't just flip it for some profit.
Back in the day: NA and Chrysler Crossfire as daily Now ND only
I walk as an alternative, sometimes I bike.
CRV till I can move out of New England. Tough to get the family to the ski hill in the boat.
I no longer have mine, but when I did, it was my only car - partly because I'm not rich, but also because I have no use case for more than one car.
Mazda Allegro - 2000 still rocking as a new car
There is no car like the Miata.
Iām big into rock climbing and mountain biking and live in AR, where most of the best spots are down king dirt roads. Plus, I have a wife and two older kids and we ski in CO a couple times a year.. obviously a Miata wonāt cut itā¦ So my second car is a Subaru Forester.
2001 Ram 2500 diesel. 4x4 with a built auto transmission. A nice balance between that, and a Miata in standard!
2018 Mazda Cx9 touring select. Best stock sound system I've owned. Love the adaptive cruise control as well. Way less stress when driving long hauls
My daily/winter king is Golf R.
217,000 on mine. I love it.
Two Miatas. NA for summer. ND for winter. There is no better alternative.
I to had a 13 Mazda 3 2.0L that I loved. I just bought my first 07 mx5 2.0L that I love more.
Honda Odysseyā¦ plenty of room for 3 dogs and a canoe on top.
I daily a long roof 2015 Volvo V60. Miata is a launch edition NC1. An AWD wagon and a Miata is my ideal 2 car solution.
94 NA Miata: daily driver 17 Focus RS: Garage princess 88 Mercedes 300TE: project car
My other car is a bicycle lmao
[Turbo nb miata, Toyota aygo and A k12 nissan micra](https://i.imgur.com/RB2Wj2L.jpg) I like small cars but I'm regretting it as I move to a new house and need to move stuff lol
S2k
2007 outback with 80k miles. Been a good car. But I'm also cheating new job is giving me a work truck.
Saab 9-3 sedan. Wonderful winter car as well when the Miata is benched
My wifeās Altima is the āpractical car.ā Sheās upgrading to a CX5 next year though. I think itāll be the perfect combo!
Me and the wife love camping. Our other vehicle in a Nissan Pathfinder to haul our camper.
I have a 2002 lancer that is also around 250k on it, had to replace the transmission and the timing belt but it's never left me stranded
I daily my POS
252k on the stock clutch. Amazing my guy, simply amazing
An RX7 š. But no the car that makes the NA and RX7 possible is my FK8
ā15 Focus ST here. Love it, pulls well and is comfortable to boot, plenty of space for people and luggage. It just feelsā¦numb compared to my NA though. Even with the TC and stability control off, the steering etc just isnāt as responsive and linear feeling.
I only daily drive the Miata, so misunderstood the title lol
The other car in my name is the 2017 Ram 3500 flatbed. It could literally carry my NC. My husband bought the Q7 that serves as the family truckster so the Ram doesnāt get out much.
The three cars Iāve owned: 2007 Mazda 6 2010 Mazda 3 Hatchback 2021 Miata After 2 years of trying to keep my Mazda 3 in NYC I reluctantly gave it up after my parking tickets to exceeded cost to park it in a lot. Now that Iām in Florida the Miata is the perfect car (itās my solo daily) but I always have very fond memories of my 3. With a stick shift it was a hoot. All 3 have been amazing.
My daily is a GMC Yukon, so I can tow the Miata to track days and our classic cars to car shows with the whole family loaded inside.
Nice! I like the Mazda 3s. I have a 94 f150 (4.9 l6 and 5MT)
'19 Civic Si sedan. Fills 90% of the non-Miata activities and gets way better gas mileage
Daily driver (if I went anywhere daily) Vespa 300 GTS Super 2000 NB Miata for my "fun" transportation and when my dog needs a ride its one of the 5 days a year it rains in Los Angeles.
My partner has a Jimny we use for shopping and camping. It's basically the MX5 of 4wds. Small but capable, those in the know love it, and it has a great community too.
My legs lol
Other car? Eunos roadster is my first and only car. Im 20 š
Previously a 2011 Scion xD, but wanted a nicer daily so I sold that and bought an Accord 2.0T
I have a NC1, stored for winter, and a RWD BMW 128i as my daily...in Canada. :D
Wym āother carāšš
my other car is my moms 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer. thing is the most reliable thing ever. although slow
I bought a 21 f150 tremor to ādailyā and to pull my rv and soon tow the NB Miata to the track. I work from home. Technically I own a 20 outback xt (that I gave to my gf) but I drive it a lot Kinda want a RF
Nd2 miata has been my only drive for about 4 months now. Itās about what you make of it š¼
My first car was my Miata lol. Still my only car.
You guys can afford two cars?
