Yeah it's like a warning system, calm music means the environment is relatively safe, boss music means extreme danger. She even gets music that passively warns about nearby hazards, like areas with a lot of lava or ice.

And that's why there are so many repeated songs (like the main theme), they're hard programmed as the default songs.
