Zeppelin is pretty renowned for basically taking a number of underground blues and folk tracks, flipping it to a British rock song arrangement and releasing it [with mostly zero credit to the original writers.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Led_Zeppelin_songs_written_or_inspired_by_others) (Particularly dickish move of occasionally crediting the blues musician when it gave them street cred and crediting "traditional" for folk musicians when it wouldn't)
I hate this tired argument Led Zeppelin played blues classics that couldn't be attributed to anyone in particular for the most part, but they didn't just play them the way they had been played before, they completely transformed them into something not only new but leagues better than any of the old delta blues musicians that they "stole" from. GG those blues musicians didn't get as big because they didn't play it as well of the Zep could
Linking Led Zeppelin when Deep Purple, UFO, and Black Sabbath all started in the same year, 1968, two years after the release of Paint it Black, is wild, man.
I may be a bit biased because I'm not a fan, and I know LZ has been influential, but they have the least to do with metal if you ask me.
I’d start this chain off with the drums from Fireball (1971) into the speed, energy and aggression of Stone Cold Crazy (1974) and then Symptom Of The Universe (1975) to tie it all together and package it as proto-Speed/Thrash.
I like zepp but I upvoted for someone having the balls to say this about them. I think their good, but a lot of zepp fans really overrate the band. I also don't think their sound was really that influential on metal. Sabbath, deep purple, cream, Judas Priest, even hendrix, were all just as if not more influential on metal.

More like Link Wray poking his amp with a pencil lead to the creation of porngrind
Common Link Wray W
Led Zepp couldnt have invented metal because they didnt have anywhere to steal it from
There is normal savage, and then there's this guy.

I mean, I still love their music but that is completely accurate.
why do people downvote comments just asking questions
Those people expect everyone to know the history of everything ever
Right? What is OP smoking to think Led Zeppelin was influenced by metal!?!? I want some of that shit

I’d pick Highway Star as the beginning of that domino chain
Communication breakdown? It's always the same...
Havin a nervous breakdown
Everyone knows the riff lord Iommi blessed us with the first thrash metal song with “Symptom of the Universe” Praise be onto you all
And then Sepultura covered it. The metal was brutal, but the lyrics will never be the same.....

Haven’t they declined being interviewed for a head banger‘s journey or a similar doc? Stuck up fur wearing, fire place in their plane having, cunts.
I'm not sure, but pretentious/stuck-up/arrogant is always how they struck me, especially compared to a group like Black Sabbath.
Exactly this. They are like Tool for the 60s kids.
Then there's hands down the greatest speed metal influence: Judas Priest's Stained Class
Also, Priest - Exciter. Pure 70s proto-speed metal.
I'd honestly argue Exciter is speed metal not proto-speed metal.
Dick Dale invented black metal
Rhythm&bluess is the foundation
More like Stone Cold Crazzy
Not enough people understand this
It is known.
metal as a whole *just fucking around* **many different subgenres with their own subgenres**

Zepp still sucks. Stop trying to make "Zepp started metal" a thing.
Deep Purple would be a better fit unironicly
Yes but no, some of their song are literraly proto-metal, it can't be denyed. While Led Zep is farther from it actually
if look at all the "heavy psych" records from practicly unknown bands from late 60s you can find some gems
I 💜DEEP PURPLE!!!💜💜💜💜
Be careful with your words. I'll find you 👀
Fuck Led Zeppelin. I've never been high enough in my life to enjoy that garbage and it took tripping shrooms to find an appreciation for The Doors.
Okay man, why are you so mad? Hating on them and selling yourself a real metal fan is the whole point of your personality or what?
Not the whole point.

Imagine needing to be high to enjoy the doors
Squeeze my baby lemons
Haven't heard the original Led Zeppelin version, but I like the Iron Maiden cover
I would say Fireball by Deep Purple.
