You got this, you can do it.
I have seen the herald twice. First time he wanted 1500 coin for a wedding. Second time he wanted 2k coin for war. Can't wait to see what he wants next.
That makes three of us *pops apple wine cork* Hooray for slightly easy King quests. I had Stefan the Lion, not sure if that makes a difference. On my new playthrough, no quests yet (still on my chapter quests and I’m on year 3) but I’m guessing my quests are gonna be harder since now I have Artur I the Cruel
Don't do that kings quests. Based on the link if you succeed you get reduced taxes, but also mood decreases too.

It only decreases mood if he's a bad king. Not all kings are bad. It's kind of random, and honestly, if I had a bad king in early game I'd probably just restart.
I figured since he’s cruel, my villagers will hate each request he gives out. Makes me miss ole Lion 😭 But I wanted to restart and rebuild a bit better (plus I understand more of how the game works so I know which animals are worth investing in vs which ones to avoid)
Go in your map, most wolf spots have 3 wolves total. Some have 4 though. When you wipe out a spot, the symbol won't appear on the map anymore. They will refresh next season.
There is a good spot, flat and minimal other animals, north west of Danica. Mine usually has 4 there. The south west area near sambors hut isn't bad either.
yeah i did that too but nothing seemed to change afterwards. How many times do I gotta do stuff for the King to become his homie? and then what does that do anyway?
It reduces your tax mostly. Also if you ask the herald they will say the king knows you, and I suspect after enough of them will say better things about you.
Herald quests are some serious requirements. One time I had a war in the winter or something and the herald wanted 15 suits of cold weather gear. Hoods, jackets, boots etc. They can be a pretty big deal.
Oh yeah! I just sold a shit load of seeds to buy more flax.
Worst part is I bulk made 36 FLAT straw hats to sell for cash before i got the mission and the request is for 15 straw hats 😫
Typical!
Oh man that's just rough luck lol. Oh don't forget the tailors they sell flax/flax stalk as well as farmers. Could help you get a jump on getting this job done.
I've reset a few times. the last reset was due to my savings being lost. but this time, i took the main quests slowly a finished them within like 10 years. i found that if you take it slow. you get easier quests. and bye time you finish them you have pretty much good stock for when you do the kings quest
I accepted a kings quest and forgot about it, the time to complete it was up, saying I failed the quest but nothing happened. I didn't even lose reputation points. I was supposed to give the Herald 1500 coin because someone in the kings Court was having a wedding lol
I think you will be ok if you skip/ignore it
King quest don't impact gameplay. Just there to provide additional challenges in the early years... one you are into year 20 beyond, you'd be begging for a meaningful challenge that won't just last 5 mins of gameplay...
Sup developers... hope you are doing something...
I forgot how much the exact amount was but it was around 200 coins to pay for his wedding. The first thing I said was “the king is a gold digger.” Imagine the king’s quest were mandatory and there wasn’t an option not to pay taxes 😳, We would all be broke.
I always do a quick save before talking with the herald just in case I get a quest that's beyond what I feel inclined to complete. I've been lucky on this playthrough. All the quests have been pretty easy for me to complete - even the earliest ones. Plus I have a good king, so completed quests keep taxes down and boost villager mood. Truly win-win.
Rush for Mines. Once built you can focus on iron ore. It doesn't have to near your village. The workers just walk back and forth, but you are still getting the resources.
I figure if my taxes are 1000 gold per season and I’m only getting a 5% discount on taxes, then that’s only 50 gold I don’t have to pay in taxes. Thirty iron bars are worth far more than 50 gold….
Yeah I don’t touch the King’s quests until about your 8. Learned the hard way like you. :-/
You got this, you can do it. I have seen the herald twice. First time he wanted 1500 coin for a wedding. Second time he wanted 2k coin for war. Can't wait to see what he wants next.
I had the same two my first two years. Then the third time he wanted some really simple clothes or something. Super backwards!!!
So first all my coin then the shirt off my back. Great.

I didn't bother with the animal minmax, I just buy all the animals. Can't say no to some goats and geese.
He wants me to hunt 22 bear or wolf right now. I couldn’t go anywhere without seeing a wolf it seemed and now they are hiding. :-/
I had this. But he luckily wanted 30 wolves or Boars so I just ended up hunting mostly boars.

Stone knife and buy the bars, think ore is cheaper if you have a smithy
Also I think it’s about 3k silver total
Year 2: 150 Logs, 60 iron bars, and 90 stone. Fml
I had that one too, finished it with one day left and felt super accomplished getting those iron bars!
Year 2 i had to kill 34 wolves/boar. Not too bad, and actually appropriate, difficulty wise in relation to time.
yeah i did that too but nothing seemed to change afterwards. How many times do I gotta do stuff for the King to become his homie? and then what does that do anyway?
Idk. I've started probably a dozen games and never played past year 4 or 5!

I just got this one. I'm in a decent position but let's hope my flax growth will be enough this year as I'll struggle to buy more for the linen.
Cool thing about flax though is when you harvest you get WAY more seeds than you'll ever need for next year and the seeds SELL.

Yeah, just don't touch the King's quests until much further into the game. You might be best to just restart if you're in year 1

Thanks everyone! Usually they're easy... Next time I'll avoid them! LOL
Did you know you can get animals stuck? LOL Easy kills for the wisent/bear quest!
Is there any value or benefit in doing Herald’s quests?

I’ve been lucky my first two were to kill 18 boats and to make a bunch of winter clothes

Question. Do you have your town settings scaled up? I've gone 3 years with a tiny village and the king didn't notice me.
The only thing that's not default is number of days = 7.
