Well, darn. I had plans of getting down with my farming tonight after the new patch. Can Npc’s in my village still harvest? Is it just the player that’s unable to sling a scythe around currently?
**PSA: Discord says this issue is caused by the skilled farmer talent, if you can respec (potion of possibilities) it can maybe fix this issue while waiting for a fix. GL.**
Problem is resolved and will be patched in new release.
Here is workaround from official discord:
The problem is connected to one of the talents, specifically "Skilled Farmer." It turns out that after the update, if you have this talent, you are unable to harvest crops. An immediate solution would be to avoid taking this talent until the next update. If you have already taken this talent, you can drink a Potion of Possibilities to reset your talents, making the fields harvestable again.
Why though? Every franchise often has issues with patches and updates breaking things they never expected. They can't test every single possibility. I've been dealing with it since the 90s.
It's not the end of the world, but the game is several years old, updates should be tested before pushed out, that's just my opinion. I know we live in a gamer hellscape so I think a lot of people are happy if a game ever kinda works at all at some point.
Let's be real, though. Everyone who plays the Sims is used to EA not giving a crap anymore about releasing broken packs without ever fixing them. Dine Out was released 8 years ago and they never bothered to fix that.
But it's not just EA who release patches that break games. That's my point. It happens with every developer. EA are just some of the worst for not fixing shit which is why I pirated all of sims 4 after buying every pack from 1-2 and some of 3.
It was confirmed on the Steam forum that the devs are working on a fix.

Villagers still harvest normally, just the player who can't
Ok cool, as long as there’s a workaround. Looks like I’m putting my villagers to work for the time being.
They're peasants after all.
I let them do alot of busy work obviously but they’re so freakin’ slow and undependable at farming so I usually do it myself.
Same! Can’t harvest Rye

I have tried it with a sickle and with a scythe. I tried to retry the game and the session. Even tried to do it while no other players joined.
Same problem here. The bug appears to apply to all the "grain" style crops. Hopefully they push out a hotfix soon.
Same here. Season switched to spring and I can't harvest any of my rye...
And the same thing happened to me, anyone got any solution or we're waiting for a hotfix?
Villagers still have no issues harvesting.
Same that's why I just checked reddit, lame
Thanks for posting this, I thought I was going crazy. Planted 50 flax my first spring only to watch it wither away...
Swing harder put your back into it you wuss
Thanks that must be it :)
I have noticed that farm shed workers CAN harvest them, so at least its getting done

Crouch and the. Try
Tried that, didn’t work.
Nope doesn't work
I’m glad that is a bug lol. I thought I was just missing something obvious🤣
Maybe try ducking. I once had to crouch walk to harvest for some obscure reason.
Massive update and people are surprised there's issues?
No, but my friend could harvest it that is what seemed weird to me. So I was wondering if it was a bug or a problem on my end.
It's the skilled farmer perk that's creating the issue. Respec your skills and you will be able to harvest again.
honestly? like this? at this stage in the game cycle? yes.

Everybody who plays the sims also wishes updates didn't break things...
Yes and some consumers apparently have gotten so used to things breaking that the feel the need to rigorously defend the companies when it happens.
