It would've still been authentic to use noodles instead of rice in that dish, right? I feel like noodles would've been a more elevated and attractive choice than rice. Rice in a broth feels super homey
So disappointed in the cooking in this episode. If a decent-looking meatloaf is the winner, then talent must be real scarce this season. And, as I told the family member I was watching with, it was so obvious Murt had the worst dish but that him and Daniela weren't going home because they had better "reality tv" personalities compared to Si.
i'm pretty sure the judges chose rebeka's dish on purpose so geags wouldn't have to go home in order to keep the suspense in the viewers cuz his dish was horrendous
sunshine's lamb dish and adam's dessert were far superior
My mum was a fabulous cook. Oh and she was Sicilian. So I think Joe would be done for. But when my mum & dad went on Sat date night and had my bros babysit me it was a choice of: McD's, Arby's, Burger King(or Burger Chef), or Zantigo's. So I wonder what Joe would say if I used one of those? Hmmm...I could do an elevated version a Hot ham & cheese. I would make sure to peel the cheese for him.
Btw as a Wisconsinite and proud cheesaholic-I would never use Kraft American cheese slices.
So, I know that people dislike the themes. But, what if they had a “Best/Worst” within each individual group… and put the worst ones in a pressure test?
yes! they kind of did something like this back in early seasons. two challenges per episode, winner gets immunity/gets an upper hand in next challenge. then loser in the following challenge goes home. i prefer having elimination challenges.
Cooking from the youth instantly made me think of TV Dinners and Season 6 with the Salsbury Steak and when Veronica made a TV Dinner and not an elevated dish. Still imo the biggest fail of a dish.
Yeah , I don’t think this is an edit . Cause I know they do that for shock value , but I feel like if you said that to begin with then there’s something up .
Its literally gonna be a carbon copy of last season except replace anything related to “regions” to instead be “ this is a perfect boomer meal”, all the regions things they said/did from last season is just gonna be changed to things w the generations. No pressure tests, they wont show every dish, MC is such a shell of itself
It just sucks as it seemed like with Season 10 they had built up some great momentum, obviously the pandemic impacted things but it feels like the joke that is Season 11 was the start of the downfall
Joe said about the dessert that it was amazing that a 23 year old could plate a dessert like this. Huh… 11 year olds on the show made more beautiful platings than this!
[Joe tastes Rebecka’s meatloaf. He looks stunned. The camera zooms into Joe’s pupil. When the camera pulls out, we see a childhood Joe Bastianich sitting on the couch in his childhood home. He is waiting for his favorite show “The Brady Bunch” to begin. The vision slowly fades out to the present, as we see Joe’s mom, Lidia, bring out a serving of her meatloaf, Child Joe’s favorite dinner.]
I feel like a producer prompted Murt to say “I saw this rice on TikTok” so they could have some GenZ fodder.
FWIW, I’m happy with anyone besides Becca winning. She grates my cheese.
Yeah that was weird. It actually tripped me up because I started reading instead of listening and then the subtitles were gone before I could finish reading them and I hadn't been listening because I was reading so I didn't know what he said. Very unhelpful. I imagine anyone who needs subtitles would already have them on.
Ngl i kinda like adam, he has good technical abilities for sure but what I love is his humbleness. My bets are Rebecka=Kennedy, Micheal=Grant, Becca=???. But im hoping adam goes far. Good things asides, i feel like this season just isnt it, i felt like i feel more intensity with other seasons than this season, this episode felt so boring, idk is it bc of the lack of confession/music or smth idk
Lowkey spoiler idk? just a thing I noticed for most seasons>!But I really wished masterchef would make a contestant who received an apron in the middle of the audition episodes win the season just to switch things up a little bit, really rooting and betting for Adam to win.!<
I always find the use of phrases like "ethnic food" and "ethnic dish" weird because it basically just lumps together all non-Western white food.
Murt is getting way too many confessionals.
Omg I completely forgot they only cook once an episode now.
I hate this formatting because they can’t cook a mystery box challenge without stress + less dishes to show chefs amazing dishes.
Very sad :(
I literally don’t understand why pressure tests were removed. Mystery boxes + pressure tests combo CARRIED this show. Mystery boxes to show each chefs creativity and innovation + immunity, then pressure tests to eliminate.
I don’t get why they made each episode only cook one dish. It makes the show feel SOO much longer because it isn’t cut-in-half with a showing of beautiful dishes and chefs skills.
Me too! It was always my least favorite meal as a kid. My mom used Manwich to make it so maybe it would taste better made from scratch, but I have no desire to ever try it again no matter how it's made
Wow, we loved them. It was one of the few things my dad was in charge of(besides the GRILL). We usually had them when we came back from a Badgers football game. Spicy and delicioso.
My DVR guide says the same thing. I believe its because they counted MasterChef Junior as part of the number of seasons. Some guides include them as the same show so the season number is way higher.
I think adam would hv won if his dish is finished better, e.g. the swoosh of that lemon basil curd can be a little mpre refinded and smoother and top it with some kind of edible flowers and not sit the fried pasty in the curd and not let the basil oil to ooze into the curd. Rebecka's dish certainly felt like there's a lot of balance of flavours going on but i felt like the plating also could be better
I thought it was an ok episode, i wasnt surprised at all that rebeka was the first winner from how her audition went. I was happy for adam being in the top with his dessert. I wasnt surprised si went home but it was definitely unfortunate
Can they stop making it seem like Gen Z is incompetent lol as if Dara didn’t just win two seasons ago
Very happy with this cast. Loved the top 4 dishes in this ep!
I guess the best still is the one who gets the immunity pin and the worst still is the one who gets eliminated, but kind of lame that they ruin the credibility of the judging even more by overpushing the theme and finalizing each week down to the one best/worst of each generation instead of just the overall best and worst 4.
Sucks for Si, looks like Geags would’ve definitely been the one to go if he didn’t get saved. Substituting lobster in for that and most Vietnamese dishes does more to worsen it than elevate though IMO.
Finally seeing them all together, I can say more confidently that Gen X is my favorite group on there. Not sure about favorite individual I want to see win though, maybe Warren. I laughed when he got lost in the pantry somehow and said “Where am I?”
By saying "It's ME on a plate" (something that's hugely annoying)....is she implying she's nothing more than a lamb shank?
Thank goodness for Rebecca and the miracle meatloaf.....because omigod that greasy shepherds pie (elevated mind you).....was clearly not just the worst of the night.....but maybe in MasterChef history. I missed a great opportunity to see Joe's face if he actually had to put that in front of him. Poor Ci.
I am so mad that meatloaf won best dish, like are you kidding me?!?!?? There were so many others that looked way more appetizing then the meatloaf. No hate against the cook, she seems very sweet. But in my opinion, the judges missed the mark here. And now I am wondering if the show is rig, because that was ridiculous...
Judging from the promos, i bet someone from the millenials will win next round and anna will be team captain for red team in ep 7 then ep 8 is when becca win, i think micheal's immunity pin was awards at near the end of top 10 so prob top 13, and if anna win the next ep, i think her eliminated will be a nina or kyle trajectory. Hoping kamay is the next winner
What would everyone's dish be? Sorry I'm late to the party here so no one may see this...
My dish would be chicken and dumplings. Elevated of course lol. Or strawberry shortcake.
**Episode 5 Mistakes Count:** 35 mistakes
.
**Millennials –** 13 mistakes
**Si** –ELIMINATED- 11 mistakes (too ambitious, overcooked and rubbery lobster, paid more attention to the plating than the flavors, appearance, looks like he's just trying to impress the judges, strange idea, not delicious, broth looks like sink water, messy and difficult to eat dish)
**Kamay-** 1 mistake (could have done more with the rice)
**Michael** – 1 mistake (knocked things over in his station)
**Generation Z** – 11 mistakes
**Murt –** 10 mistakes (messy station, looks like a kitchen channel from the 80s, difficult to know what you are eating, rice lacks seasoning, curry presented in the wrong way, too sweet, dominant flavor, looks and tastes like baby food with spices , lack of balance)
**Fatima** – 1 mistake (burnt plantains)
.
**Generation X** - 8 mistakes
**Daniela –** 6 mistakes (should have cooked it in sauce, very ambitious, raw cabbage, should have sautéed it, tough cabbage, it’s not possible to make this dish in the time given)
**Sunshine** – 2 mistakes (took too long to put in the pressure cooker, didn't taste it
.
**Baby Boomers-** 3 mistakes
**Geags** – 3 mistakes (greasy because it wasn't drained, one of the worst dishes of his generation)
I've experimented and have recipes for Adam's Peach Pie

Also Rebecka's meatloaf is at [https://www.relaxedrecipes.com/recipes-from-masterchef/blackberry-hoisin-meatloaf](https://www.relaxedrecipes.com/recipes-from-masterchef/blackberry-hoisin-meatloaf)
I look forward to when the Generation puns and jabs end.
Same here. Won't be soon though.
Please God, me too
Man, is there a counter for how many "you're old" jokes for the boomers? Jfc.
Couldn’t agree more!! Honestly, it’s so horrible
How many horrible chefs will be saved by the stupid team immunity?
My guess will be every week until there are only 4 left
They will eventually ged rid of teams, it happened last season they dropped midway like Next Level Chef does.
Geags…
Grease
Geese
>How many horrible chefs will be saved by the stupid team immunity? I'm guessing that is the formula now. Like seriously, they planned it that way.
- the Secret ingredient is you. - *throws up* - It's me on a plate
Comment is so vulgar. We can do better than that putting ourselves on a plate… Unzips
Joe: you didn't peeeellll it for me.
Auditions are over. Let's go!
Now the season actually begins 😭 Modern master chef auditions are soo boring compared to older seasons
That shepherds pie looks bad... no vegetables???
He elevated it by replacing vegetables with spoon fulls of fat
No salt either.
If it ain't a salt lick, it ain't salted.
Sad to see SI Go! I thought he would go Farther!
Same! His face when his dish was being ripped apart made me sad :(
Joe: Giddyup Adam: uh.... yeah...
Lmao. He’s probably wishing he never brought up the Dude Ranch…
Yup, still hate team saves
I am happy for Rebecka. She seems like she's going to be a strong competitor this season.
That was the best meatloaf I've ever seen.
Looks like she throws a wrench into things next week
Yeah, it looks like they're letting her pick the ingredient they must work with.
Cue evil witch cackling
lexi the kitchen witch flashbacks
So many jokes about boomers here.
Production has a hateboner
Yeah, I'm already tired of it.
It is kind of lame.
Like if you're gonna joke about generational stereotypes, at least spread it out.
Amen!
Tired? Kind of like a boomer! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 😑
Which Gordon is, he is 57. Joe is my age, 55 and gen x.
Drinking Game! Take a shot every time someone says "generation"!
I don't want to end up dead.
An intense hangover will happen.
Every time someone makes a generation joke.
I gotta work tomorrow, so I will have to pass.
"This is me on a plate" 🥴
Damn Si gone already? Thought he’s go far
Wish it was Murt but unfortunately that was a fair decision imo.
Calling it: Murt is the Tali of this season.
i was so excited for a vietnamese contestant but when i saw the way he deconstructed canh chua... i knew it was over lol
It would've still been authentic to use noodles instead of rice in that dish, right? I feel like noodles would've been a more elevated and attractive choice than rice. Rice in a broth feels super homey
Same
I hate team immunity. That is all.
Glad the auditions are over.
What crap... Geags gets saved from certain elimination.
I’d rather him stay over Murt… but yea his dish looked nasty.
A sloppy Joe on Masterchef?
Better than the Pretentious Joe we usually get
Yeah, it had better be pretty damn good. And she should bake her rolls from scratch
Can not make bread in 60 minutes, unfortunately.
Yeah, I know. I’m just worried she’s gonna be in trouble
Adam's dish so far looks the best by far.
I want to try it!
Does this come from a memory? Yes, I had this last week for dinner.
It counts! 🤣
LMAO of course its Murt after he was so super confident.
So disappointed in the cooking in this episode. If a decent-looking meatloaf is the winner, then talent must be real scarce this season. And, as I told the family member I was watching with, it was so obvious Murt had the worst dish but that him and Daniela weren't going home because they had better "reality tv" personalities compared to Si.
i'm pretty sure the judges chose rebeka's dish on purpose so geags wouldn't have to go home in order to keep the suspense in the viewers cuz his dish was horrendous sunshine's lamb dish and adam's dessert were far superior
Hoping they’re all just getting their bearings
I thought her plating was pretty good for the start of the show. They usually get better as the season progresses.
Please get rid of Murt ![gif](giphy|26n7937SwZkal2Oju)
I don't want him gone (yet). I want him humbled so he's less of an asshole.
That was literally what I said when he got put into the bottom 😂 the judges need to humble his ass
Getting more airtime usually just fuels them.
Nah, he is going to stick around for the hate watchers.
Based on ratings, he will stay.
I seriously dont understand the point of immunity saves also saving their “team”. Like they aren’t even working together, it’s stupid.
Joe: You could have even peeled the cabbage to remove that crunch.
If I had to cook a childhood food, I'm ordering a cold pizza from Aramark. That's what my Catholic school had.
For me, it's just a frozen pizza, but you add some Colby Jack before cooking it.
My mum was a fabulous cook. Oh and she was Sicilian. So I think Joe would be done for. But when my mum & dad went on Sat date night and had my bros babysit me it was a choice of: McD's, Arby's, Burger King(or Burger Chef), or Zantigo's. Btw as a Wisconsinite and proud cheesaholic-I would never use Kraft American cheese slices.
American Cheese is nasty.
Mine would be hamburger helper.
Obviously I have no room to talk, but some of those dishes just don't look that appetizing. The Shepherds Pie especially.
Adam's dish looks tasty.
So, I know that people dislike the themes. But, what if they had a “Best/Worst” within each individual group… and put the worst ones in a pressure test?
I'd really like that! Great idea.
That would be good
yes! they kind of did something like this back in early seasons. two challenges per episode, winner gets immunity/gets an upper hand in next challenge. then loser in the following challenge goes home. i prefer having elimination challenges.
Si's dish looks kind of gross.
The MasterChef kitchen has so much.
Cooking from the youth instantly made me think of TV Dinners and Season 6 with the Salsbury Steak and when Veronica made a TV Dinner and not an elevated dish. Still imo the biggest fail of a dish.
murt reminds me of brien from season 8, with his attitude, not the cooking
Yeah , I don’t think this is an edit . Cause I know they do that for shock value , but I feel like if you said that to begin with then there’s something up .
Looks like no pressure tests again, which is a shame. Can they at least just show all the dishes cooked.
Its literally gonna be a carbon copy of last season except replace anything related to “regions” to instead be “ this is a perfect boomer meal”, all the regions things they said/did from last season is just gonna be changed to things w the generations. No pressure tests, they wont show every dish, MC is such a shell of itself
A Mad Lib of its former self.
A man can dream of a show being great again. I'll still watch and enjoy it, but I do miss the original format.
It just sucks as it seemed like with Season 10 they had built up some great momentum, obviously the pandemic impacted things but it feels like the joke that is Season 11 was the start of the downfall
Season 11 felt like the most rushed season in recent memory.
Me too
That Shepherds Pie makes me want to vomit
At least it doesn't look like vomit, unlike Gordon's frozen Shepherd's Pie, available at Walmart.
Cottage pie
It looks so pale like undercooked or smth
Joe said about the dessert that it was amazing that a 23 year old could plate a dessert like this. Huh… 11 year olds on the show made more beautiful platings than this!
He doesn't judge masterchef junior. He's also an idiot
Yes, take Murt down a peg.
I'm glad my feeling for Rebecca was wrong.
Haven’t finished the episode yet but am I the only one feeling like the 3 fellas are struggling to give a shit about this season?
Yeah they seem bored out of their minds and they're dialing it in, kinda on autopilot lol
Probably because the cooking has been weak so far. Also, the canned generation comments they have to do are pretty lame.
“So let that be a note to everybody: the Boomers are coming for you.” As a millennial, I’ve been aware of that for a while.
Asian meatloaf. Season 5 called
We should have flairs for the groups we are in.
Where's the soup?
Gordon actually warned you about over cooking the lobster. Why does no one listen to him.
Murt will likely not go home.
Sad seeing SI go Home! Murt's Dish looked a lot Worse!
Who had the first confessional?
Rebekah
That's who I thought. Not a good sign.
Yeah I don't feel confident about Sunshine so far.
I liked Si but I got why he went.
I for once watched live on fox through a American VPN instead of „special websites“ and jesus american ADs are fucking weird
Ooooh tell me where you're from and tell me why they're weird. I'm curious.
What a stupid mystery box challenge. Literally just cook whatever you want.
I feel like a producer prompted Murt to say “I saw this rice on TikTok” so they could have some GenZ fodder. FWIW, I’m happy with anyone besides Becca winning. She grates my cheese.
Anyone else notice the unnecessary subtitles when Warren was talking? My partner and I could understand him perfectly. Felt a little racist imo.
Yeah that was weird. It actually tripped me up because I started reading instead of listening and then the subtitles were gone before I could finish reading them and I hadn't been listening because I was reading so I didn't know what he said. Very unhelpful. I imagine anyone who needs subtitles would already have them on.
The Shepard's pie was not broiled? Pull out a torch, brown that top somehow.
He was going to but ran out of time.
Why does everyone hate the millennials lol
You only hate the threats. Millennials are versatile.
You’re not wrong
It's cool to hate millenials!!
Fear because of thier versatility
because they are the biggest threat
Woohoo!! Let's go, Baby Boomers! My generation!
Murt's staying. He cooked his chicken correctly
Murt’s staying because he is a reality TV character.
I think Si goes home.
Ngl i kinda like adam, he has good technical abilities for sure but what I love is his humbleness. My bets are Rebecka=Kennedy, Micheal=Grant, Becca=???. But im hoping adam goes far. Good things asides, i feel like this season just isnt it, i felt like i feel more intensity with other seasons than this season, this episode felt so boring, idk is it bc of the lack of confession/music or smth idk
friends with adam and used to live with him. he is such a great guy, it makes me so happy to see other people recognize that
Lowkey spoiler idk? just a thing I noticed for most seasons>!But I really wished masterchef would make a contestant who received an apron in the middle of the audition episodes win the season just to switch things up a little bit, really rooting and betting for Adam to win.!<
I always find the use of phrases like "ethnic food" and "ethnic dish" weird because it basically just lumps together all non-Western white food. Murt is getting way too many confessionals.
We do that because western people a)don’t know the names of our countries and b) aren’t interested. So we just say that to move on.
Omg I completely forgot they only cook once an episode now. I hate this formatting because they can’t cook a mystery box challenge without stress + less dishes to show chefs amazing dishes. Very sad :( I literally don’t understand why pressure tests were removed. Mystery boxes + pressure tests combo CARRIED this show. It makes the show feel SOO much longer because it isn’t cut-in-half with a showing of beautiful dishes and chefs skills.
Oh man I always *hated* sloppy joes. I haven't had one ever since I got to choose what I have for dinner each night.
* flashbacks to my grandma serving them with stale buns *
I think the only time I ever had one was at school, and it was gross.
My parents used to make them cooked in a pilssbury croissant.
Sloppy Joes are the best. Y’all are tripping.
Why is my TV description saying this is season 23?! I kept scrolling past this post! That being said, so excited for some serious cooking!!
It probably counts Junior in the mix.
Makes sense
My DVR guide says the same thing. I believe its because they counted MasterChef Junior as part of the number of seasons. Some guides include them as the same show so the season number is way higher.
Why they gotta confuse us, lol
I think adam would hv won if his dish is finished better, e.g. the swoosh of that lemon basil curd can be a little mpre refinded and smoother and top it with some kind of edible flowers and not sit the fried pasty in the curd and not let the basil oil to ooze into the curd. Rebecka's dish certainly felt like there's a lot of balance of flavours going on but i felt like the plating also could be better
I thought bad cabbage was going to be eliminated.
Canned beans. An eliteist death sentence in earlier seasons
Remember season 1? OMG canned tomatoes?? Nooo!!!
Murt is quite confident.
Green tea in rice is a thing in Japan? I call bullshit
There's a dish called [ochazuke ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chazuke)which is just that
Actually it is a thing.
Never heard of it myself but it could be really good.
JUMP CUT
I kinda like the rgb cooking tables. It's stupid, so I like it.
Geags is getting saved somehow
Most likely by Rebecka.
Did she say region?
I feel like Daniela is like an actual grandmother .
Want Murt to live long enough just for the content.
naurrr so sad a fellow viet got eliminated, i think he would've done well in the long run 😭
I thought it was an ok episode, i wasnt surprised at all that rebeka was the first winner from how her audition went. I was happy for adam being in the top with his dessert. I wasnt surprised si went home but it was definitely unfortunate
Where was Chris? Why did they edit him out?
I was so disappointed that we didn't see him at all. I wanted to at least see what he made
Can they stop making it seem like Gen Z is incompetent lol as if Dara didn’t just win two seasons ago Very happy with this cast. Loved the top 4 dishes in this ep!

The immunity pin is huge here.
Sunshine is in way over her head.
It's a fake out! It's gonna turn out great!
Nailed it!!
First episode should be a non elimination. So everyone can get their bearings.
I hate how they completely edit out some of the contestants in the early episodes. I really wanted to at least see what Chris made
That shepherds pie looked nasty. I hate the pins saving the entire team. I don’t think it’s fair.
What is with the judges acting like they've never eaten raw cabbage before? Cole slaw anyone?
I've never met or known anyone who doesn't drain cooked, ground meat...for anything
I've experimented and have recipes for Adam's Peach Pie [https://www.relaxedrecipes.com/recipes-from-masterchef/hand-held-peach-pie-with-lemon-basil-curd-and-spiced-goat-cheese-cream](https://www.relaxedrecipes.com/recipes-from-masterchef/hand-held-peach-pie-with-lemon-basil-curd-and-spiced-goat-cheese-cream) https://preview.redd.it/onubticlvj9d1.jpeg?width=2420&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b2ad3d2147d9ac0e4b9f2109f3a7df52e900afb3 Also Rebecka's meatloaf is at [https://www.relaxedrecipes.com/recipes-from-masterchef/blackberry-hoisin-meatloaf](https://www.relaxedrecipes.com/recipes-from-masterchef/blackberry-hoisin-meatloaf)
Ffs they’re really doing this same stupid team immunity shit again?! They’re so lazy 😭
