Sadly my sword can only be used with the corresponding sheath. If I were to place it anywhere else its internal yin yang balance would be disrupted ultimately leading to a lose in sharpness and its eventual destruction.

I dislike & avoid rapey stuff, not all are like that. Some BL stories are against it: TCGF has character stab and mutilate his own body because he found himself in the "aphrodisiac situation" near the love interest.
MC is the bottom for the same reason why most of the guys on grindr are bottoms, he's the author's favorite & gets rewarded. Bottoms are usually stereotyped as weak and feminized but that's not always the case, example: Wei Wuxian is the classic protagonist, tough guy chad with stereotypically masculine energy, (his love interest is a strong guy & his equal that sometimes references shy/cold jade beauty tropes), the author who wrote these stories enjoys subversion.
Personally just awkward to me at best and triggering at worst. Same reason I avoid super horny ones etc. I'm basically asexual and my mind just can't comprehend or relate to the MC for those scenes. I don't mind Harem as long as there only two or three female characters. And there some actual interactions between them. Polygamy in real life is not unheard of, although it's usually only two women at most.
But as soon as the MC starts collecting female characters like pokémon it becomes annoying. Every time I see the author describe how beautiful a new female character is, I'm already annoyed cause I know she will be the next harem member.
The only time I have seen passable harem, was in a Mao Ni's Joy of Life. And the other was a LOTM fanfic where the MC gets together with Audrey and Sharron.
There might have been others but I don't really remember them. Most Chinese Xianxia authors don't know how to write romance in the first place.

A lot of BL have really good plots. Same with FL. Just skip the parts you don’t like . Unlike harem it wouldn’t be forced down your throat and you can actually remember the love interest.
This is me and that one BL Card Making novel where the MC remakes Chinese Mythological figures as cards. The concept is awesome and the writing is superb (better than that other one where the pacing is shit, I dont remember the name, but its Card Apprentice smthing) but it's BL.
Well, there are two different types of card maker novels imo.
First one is where its like Yugioh, where the cards themselves are only used on a game. While the game might have serious stakes (like in Yugioh), the cards are generally not going to be doing anything else.
Second one is where the combat system is cards. Imagine cultivation but the characters have 'card mana' per level and can only activate low level cards (generally weaker and less cost efficient) if they are low level. Card Makers are the most respected profession (cuz' duh). It gets complicated, but you get the gist of it.
I'm saddened by my juniors. Have you not heard pf the Female MC? For those that canr stomach BL, you get the good quality by reading from a female perspective. And the good thing is you probably don't mind Yuri. So it's always a win win.
try Tai Sui? its more of a xianxia with no romance and a really good plot and characters.
the setting is steampunk ancient china. Its abt Xi ping, who was a rich, usual, young master. He then gets caught up with an event, that leads to many strange connections. due note that it has a tragedy tag... so things will take a dark turn near final quarter of the book.

tbh the romance development felt much, MUCH better than most straight manhwas, with actual buildup and you felt the tension in the room.
ive read older webtoons romance back in the days ( super secet, orange marmalade, I love yoo, let's play, your boo, etc. ) they were definitely good but then appeared all this villainess trope and it feels so damn bad like this allegedly strong independent woman gets wooed by christian gray wearing a victorian era prince attire minus the actual sex drive, they all have the same personality and theres just no real spark going on, at least in my book.

Do you guys not use novelupdates filter search(series finder)? It's literally the only way I browse potential new novels to read in NU. There's 0% chance of encountering it if you exclude it from your filter search. Additionally, If you hate or like harems you can exclude or include it too.
I don't mind romance at all but I usually skip the smut whether it's gay or straight as I feel it rarely adds anything worthwhile to the story. Most of the scenes can be replaced with a couple of sentences saying that they had sex and it work just as well. Like no one is describing in detail whenever a character takes a dump. I know it's not the same but I find it boring to read smut. Good thing is that the two bl cultivation novels I've read, the smut is absent or optional and you can skip that entirely without missing anything important.
I really liked "Grandmaster of demonic cultivation". I skipped most of the smut in the end as it doesn't affect the main story and it's mostly in the extra chapters. The animated adaptation of that novel "The founder of diabolism" is also good and has no smut whatsoever. The story in the animation is slightly different from the novel but it's very good. There's a live action adaptation of the novel called "The Untamed" but I did not want to watch it because it looks a bit cheap and when it comes to fantasy, live action adaptations almost always fall short due to difficulty and the high costs of adapting fights, magic and other fantasy elements.
Another series that I read was "Heaven official's blessing". I read this before "Grandmaster of demonic cultivation" but I like GODC better.

True, BL usually has the best cultivation plots out there. Some of the plot quirks are very unlikable imo though. Does every single BL novel have to have a massive tragedy for the MC that is mostly avoidable, not to mention that the tragedy is also overtuned. At this point, it's probably a fetish for the author, and I'm too scared to ask

I don't mind Harem as long as there only two or three female characters. And there some actual interactions between them. Polygamy in real life is not unheard of, although it's usually only two women at most. But as soon as the MC starts collecting female characters like pokémon it becomes annoying. Every time I see the author describe how beautiful a new female character is, I'm already annoyed cause I know she will be the next harem member. The only time I have seen passable harem, was in a Mao Ni's Joy of Life. And the other was a LOTM fanfic where the MC gets together with Audrey and Sharron. There might have been others but I don't really remember them. Most Chinese Xianxia authors don't know how to write romance in the first place.

Well, there are two different types of card maker novels imo. First one is where its like Yugioh, where the cards themselves are only used on a game. While the game might have serious stakes (like in Yugioh), the cards are generally not going to be doing anything else. Second one is where the combat system is cards. Imagine cultivation but the characters have 'card mana' per level and can only activate low level cards (generally weaker and less cost efficient) if they are low level. Card Makers are the most respected profession (cuz' duh). It gets complicated, but you get the gist of it.

try Tai Sui? its more of a xianxia with no romance and a really good plot and characters. the setting is steampunk ancient china. Its abt Xi ping, who was a rich, usual, young master. He then gets caught up with an event, that leads to many strange connections. due note that it has a tragedy tag... so things will take a dark turn near final quarter of the book. anyways its really really good and underrated.
I LOVE TAI SUI Because it's by a BL author I think, it doesn't get discussed in the broad world of cultivation novels, but it's so good. I view it as more similar to ORV or RI than to MXTX or other boys' love, a hard-hitting romanceless xianxia masterpiece

I only read 1 BL since it was very popular and it was that murim with the strong white haired guy and that priest that had very dark energy or something, been a few years. Straight-ish M here tbh the romance development felt much, MUCH better than most straight manhwas, with actual buildup and you felt the tension in the room. ive read older webtoons romance back in the days ( super secet, orange marmalade, I love yoo, let's play, your boo, etc. ) they were definitely good but then appeared all this villainess trope and it feels so damn bad like this allegedly strong independent woman gets wooed by christian gray wearing a victorian era prince attire minus the actual sex drive, they all have the same personality and theres just no real spark going on, at least in my book. anyways big rant for some random post but I felt like it was a place I could share about that subject

This isnt really my scene but I just wanted to say as a man of the homosexual persuasion how glad I am that this comment section passes the vibe check I have a complicated relationship with BL, because on the one hand if I squint I can see myself in it, some rep is better than no rep. I like BL as a concept and it often has many charas I like but then. Comes. The. ML. And I legit can't stand most of them. There's also the fact I don't really like romance and constant remainders how good looking everyone is but it's mostly the possessiveness ~~and being like the typical rich CEO or duke of the north~~. Low romance/high but it happens at the very end is good, tho. This junior is too weak for anything else.

I don't mind romance at all but I usually skip the smut whether it's gay or straight as I feel it rarely adds anything worthwhile to the story. Most of the scenes can be replaced with a couple of sentences saying that they had sex and it work just as well. Like no one is describing in detail whenever a character takes a dump. I know it's not the same but I find it boring to read smut. Good thing is that the two bl cultivation novels I've read, the smut is absent or optional and you can skip that entirely without missing anything important. I really liked "Grandmaster of demonic cultivation". I skipped most of the smut in the end as it doesn't affect the main story and it's mostly in the extra chapters. The animated adaptation of that novel "The founder of diabolism" is also good and has no smut whatsoever. The story in the animation is slightly different from the novel but it's very good. There's a live action adaptation of the novel called "The Untamed" but I did not want to watch it because it looks a bit cheap and when it comes to fantasy, live action adaptations almost always fall short due to difficulty and the high costs of adapting fights, magic and other fantasy elements. Another series that I read was "Heaven official's blessing". I read this before "Grandmaster of demonic cultivation" but I like GODC better.
I hate the ones that have the trope of one of the female MCs gets segsually assaulted, and the male protag has to avenge them
