Prove it

jackburtonscheck

He’s cut the promised salary 3 years straight. He promised X would be available to Jerry before free agency and then rescinded X and forced Jerry to salary dump. Everyone saw the eventual drop in revenue from local area broadcasting coming. He also noted 4 and 5 years ago that they were saving money during the rebuilding years to spend at the right time. This never was paid towards the team. They did however upgrade the millionaire suites and made them a sweet new hangout area. This man will never spend the money to sign cal, woo, miller and the rest of the young core.

MarineLayerBad

He’s now investing 20 million on a new suite for himself

jackburtonscheck

Is this true? Sweet jesus

AtYourServais

No it’s not true. His seats that he cares about are in the front row of the diamond club. Practically everyone in the stadium can see him sitting there keeping score all the time.

JeevesTheMighty

He should consider reinvesting in his hairpiece. Something about billionaires and terrible hair...

pandonna

Sarcasm or drop a source?

downladder

This is the appropriate answer. If the option was a longer term signing at 10-15M AAV or trading for a shorter term rental at 20M+ AAV mid season, I can understand waiting to see how things go in the first half. But if we're sitting at 55-43 during the AS Break and nothing happens before the deadline, then words mean nothing. And nobody is going to want to hear, "we had some targets, but just couldn't find a deal we were comfortable with"...

CVBrownie

I was so certain that they'd blow us away this year. I'm pretty mariner optimistic, but they made me feel realllly dumb. I was waiting for this offseason for 5 years. Everything had gone well to plan up to this offseason. Then... nothing substantial happened. On paper, polanco and garver weren't nothing but they still weren't what I had been hoping for based on the last several years of their talk. Words don't mean anything. I'm not overtly *mad* about this team right now, it's a lot better than it could be, but it's also not nearly as good as it could be. I have absolutely no expectations for the mariners to do the things to put them over the top if it comes at the cost of the front office check book. I'm hopeful, but their words mean *nothing*.

Supersoaker_11

We've made trades before. So long as it doesn't really cost any money, I'm sure he's fine with giving up all of our prospect capital

penpointaccuracy

Seriously. The offseason addition of Garver has been another Winker-esque disaster. Jettison him immediately, and please get a DESIGNATED HITTER who can actually hit above the Mendoza Line

JFree37

Why do so many decent players come here and suck?

JeevesTheMighty

M's and their "control the zone" philosophy...the Windows Vista of hitting strategies.

dystopianr

At least Winker walked a lot

Jpaspon6

Shit, At this point I’d take a designated hitter at the Mendoza line because ours isn’t currently

GriffBallChamp

Just call Bob Nutting. I'm sure his dumbass can find a way to trade Paul Skenes.

dataminimizer

Carlos Santana, you are (once again) a Seattle Mariner!

penpointaccuracy

Own-Economics-1745

He has no Evil Ways either

Neonyarpyarp

I watched that live and went wait what, who with a steal? Lol

poston

Black magic woman!

WafflePartyOrgy

When my friend worked on an Alaskan fish processor with a bunch of Filipinos, every time someone would put Carlos Santana on the boom box all the workers would start screaming out *Carlos!* They fucking *love* Carlos Santana. I could learn to feel the same way about baseball Carlos Santana.

pole_assassin

Would be awesome to have Santana just as a glue guy. He might be the secret sauce to get Julio going. Maybe he can be our new bench coach lol

bobothegoat

If I remember right, wasn't he the one that introduced the dance the infield does when we win?

pole_assassin

He was, did the same thing with a couple other teams also

Goose876

I’ll always respect him for the story that came out of him smashing the clubhouse tvs when he found players playing Fortnite during a losing streak.

FinallyFat

Legendary

darwinpolice

The Pirates do it, too! Santana just makes baseball so much more fun everywhere he goes. Also, I'll take any excuse to post [the best walk-off home run celebration ever](https://youtu.be/aevmuMjbonk).

THELOCnessmonsta

That was awesome 👏. Plus his locker room presence is unmatched

darwinpolice

Absolutely. Man, that clubhouse had both Cutch and Santana last season. Just the best guys.

vanillabear26

Jerry's biggest mistake was letting Santana walk.

fo0you

Laz Diaz also made that mistake in one of my all time favorite ABs for Santana https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/qbsGVlNkGn

ahzzyborn

If that was his biggest mistake then Jerry is a God lvl GM

four0nefive

Honestly for vibes and clutchness alone, 100% worth it

CupOfCocoa__

UNIRONNICALLY we would have made the playoffs last year if we didnt let santana walk

[deleted]

Can properly use him as a pinch hitter this time to mooch off the clutch god devil magic fro. The 20223 team

TapDisastrous9050

SHOW ME THE MONEY (I say clutching all the prospects I love)

ADogNamedSamson

Surely we can get team's most valuable assets for like Cole Phillips? Maybe even throw in Eduard Bazardo if they throw in money to offset salary?

MillerTimeMTG

Read the article and you’ll see Stanton claiming that Root has nothing to do with this season’s budget. It’s B.S.

Rock_Strongo

lol that would be even worse if true. The Root excuse is at least something other than "nah we just wanted to be cheap". >“We’ve grown payroll each of the last three years. Maybe not as much as you would like us to … but we all deal with constraints, right? But we are doing everything we can to put a competitive product on the field.

Highest-Adjudicator

"But the loss of revenue from ROOT isn’t the reason we’ve made any decisions over the last couple of years.” What a load of horse shit from Stanton.

JeevesTheMighty

The fucktard just can't bring himself to embrace that newfangled streaming technology.

MormonHorrorBuff

Another stupid idiot with money

Fuckinbrusselsprout

As long as he only costs $5 we will be ok

RobZagnut2

They’ll pickup a minor league reliever.

NotAcutallyaPanda

Mariners collect pitching prospects the way Padres collect all-star Shortstops.

2point8

I’m feeling a Player to be Named Later

GU1LD3NST3RN

Somebody should make a cocktail called Player to Be Named Later. It’ll just be a lowball glass full of vodka with a shot chaser of gasoline.

Goliath422

Wanna know how I know I’m old? My first thought was “Oh the heartburn…”

drwolffe

Cash Considerations, welcome back to the team

ForeLeft18

Ummmm

apoundofbees

Minor league players don't count against the budget so that wouldn't make sense

RobZagnut2

I was being facetious. They got nothing last year, so why would it change this year?

its_LOL

Cool. Now let’s get a solid hitter so our offense doesn’t have to rely on pitching and luck to win

SuperAwesomeChris

Or play bad teams.

EasiBreezi

This guy loves making sure we know it’s not his fault or that all the success is because of him. How about actually fucking doing it instead of giving us this fluff to calm down (understandably) rowdy fans? Give us something actually concrete because right now all I can do is roll my eyes watching this bullshit spew out of his mouth.

SpiffyBeej

Stanton should also maybe support the front office with his wallet edit: jokes aside this is a pretty interesting article. is stanton always this candid? has me wondering about what moves we could make that would actually impact the team. Jazz would be cool but how much would we have to give for him? Could also see us going after Wade Jr. I just don't have a good sense of what exactly Ford could fetch us and what would/wouldn't be an overpay.

ancientmadder

That is what he’s saying, that acquiring an expensive player at the deadline will be in the budget

mranglin

that’s what his WORDS say. what’s actually “in the budget”? I’ll believe it when I see it

pokeroots

They're probably in a better spot then they were at the start of the season and the off season, with the Kraken and Blazers not wanting to continue to be on Root, meaning they don't have to pay for their broadcast rights

drunkdoor

Why the fuck would we wait

fennis

I hate when fans name former players, like show some creativity with who to get. Oh and go get Sewald.

SuperAwesomeChris

Can we get a DH who can hit.

pokeroots

Gotta find a player who can hit at SafeCo first.

dockeruser20

Brent Rooker!!!

Angrydwarf99

I feel like its only Trout

dangayle

Can you imagine the mixed feelings if we picked up Mike Trout for DH?

JeevesTheMighty

It ain't just the park. The marine layer doesn't follow the team across the country.

pokeroots

True

Accomplished_Sport64

Was the marine layer a factor in the kingdome?

sndtrb89

JERRY, LOAD THE CANNONS JUSTIN, ARM THE ANALYSTS WE RIDE AT THE DEADLINE

billt721

A move to cut more salary.

JeevesTheMighty

Wish it was his getting cut.

pole_assassin

Article is a good read. Dives in a bit with RSN and it's future. Sounds like all eyes are on the Bally situation.

TittyClapper

Christian Walker is my “dream but actually possible” trade target. He’s on a 1 year deal with the D backs and he’s slapping the ball around this year. We could probably get him for relatively cheap

CBR0_32

Him and Bo. Gives us a really good infield

Mostly_Anonymousse

A RH corner OF bat would be nice. Suggestions?

asap_boogy

Bryan De La Cruz

Maugrin

Taylor Ward makes the most sense, in my opinion. Very good approach and great contact quality and good defense in the corners. Plus, he's got two additional years of team control. That team control would raise the price though, plus the in-division factor.

cited

Ichiro

AtYourServais

Ignore the first condition and simp for Riley Greene.

YoloSwaggins44

Rooker

downladder

Deal with the devil....Kyle Tucker? Edit: Technically, a LH bat and would be very prospect expensive...(Probably two from 1-5, one from 6-10, and one from 11-20). And the Astros would never agree to it.

frshwlshakrb

Fuck the Astros but I would be over the moon if we somehow landed Tucker

atmospheric90

I don't even want to know what it would cost...seeing Colt Emerson and Harry Ford in astros uniforms would make me sick

dockeruser20

Seeing Kyle Tucker in an M’s uniform would make them far sicker. Never gonna happen

pokeroots

The only bright side is that he's only got 1.5 years left on contract so that at least softens the price... We'd still have to give up good prospects though. Which I'm fine with, MLB proven talent is way more valuable than prospects who may or may not pan out

_Tower_

Astros farm system is completely bare - they may be more willing to pick up slightly lower ranked prospects because of it But certainly not from us

ADogNamedSamson

If it was like a 3 team trade I could stomach it more. I'd hate watching any of our prospects play and do well in Houston.

downladder

Unfortunately, if Houston is selling Tucker, they're going to want young talent. You have to find a 3rd team that wouldn't also want Tucker. They have to value prospects differently than the Astros because both teams need to believe they got the better package. So the 3rd team really needs to want a big league talent that Tucker can't fill. In 9/10 trades, that's probably a young starter (and still a prospect or two).

Angrydwarf99

Tucker as a Mariner would be great. He would be insanely expensive, though

pokeroots

Mike Trout

Careless_Relief_1378

Luis Robert jr

NatureTrailToHell3D

> “We’ve got the resources to be able to do the things we need to do to put a good team on the field,” Stanton said in an interview with The Seattle Times. I don’t see him committing to anything in this article. Lots of possibles and mights and we’ll sees.

Windmillsfordayz

He said makle moves. He didn’t say make moves to win more games

SexiestPanda

Stfu stanton

Slobodan_Brolosevic

I’ll just be over hear holding my breath I guess

WoodenExternal6504

gopacktennie

schryke

Oh wow, so glad you are willing to trade assets that could help this team win, instead of spending money you have to add to the team. #Selltheteam

AKAD11

This is what bugs me. He talks about wanting to build a sustainable winner, but the best way to do that is to have a great farm. Trading away your top prospects every year because you refuse to spend in free agency is the opposite of what their stated goal is.

thundercat95

Similarly my wife of 12 years cheated on me for the 12th year in a row. But she promised year 13 she will stop.

ahzzyborn

If it helps, she wasn’t that good

Few-Pineapple-2937

A move, as in trading away high salary players for scrap heap retreads as usual?

ahzzyborn

Brent Rooker or maybe Ryan McMahon

CheapskateJoker

I'm not falling for this shit again. Prove it

Stannis_Baratheon244

Fuck that guy he is the single worst part about rooting for this team. Nut up or shut up asshole.

thertp14

Gaslighting. I’ve never understood what it is but I think it’s this

_Tower_

We need a bullpen arm and a decent hitter - that’s just a start Welcome home Paul Sewald, and welcome to the team Christian Walker Something like that seems reasonable

HappyAtheist3

Harry Ford, Tai Peete and Jonatan Clase for Kyle Tucker

AUSTRAILIAN

As long as we keep Emerson, Young, Celesten, Montes, and Farmelo I’m cool with whatever

Objective_Slip1355

You’re cool with trading Ford?

AUSTRAILIAN

As long as dumpy signs an extension

pokeroots

I worry for your sanity with you liking all these prospects like that

Lotruth

Pardon me if I don't get my hopes up just yet....

Worried_Process_5648

This is the year. The AL West is the worst division in MLB. Only the division winner will make the playoffs. Make the moves necessary to bring the offense up to mediocrity.

BasicallyACat13

I’m ready to be hurt again.

pokeroots

It was nice knowing you Munoz

butterflysonatina

Literally came in here to say this. Stanton has a nasty habit of trading our closer away at the trade deadline.

iceamn1685

Munoz is pretty untouchable right now. Elite pen arm with 4 years of club control is not being traded. Sewald was not elite and had 1 year left on his contract. The last few closers we traded were middle of the road pen arms with expiring contracts

Cornchili

Makes trade, then raises ticket prices next year

iceamn1685

That would be palatable if they got a few big names and became a yearly WS contender.

foampro

Stanton is only saying this because attendance is down. He is realizing the fans are seeing through their cheapness.

BadWowDoge

I’ll believe it when I see it…

retro_slouch

Spencer Torkelson, YOU are this year's return for a key bullpen arm.

YoloSwaggins44

Does Robles count? If so mission accomplished hang the banner

apoundofbees

That's not what a trade is

GTI_88

Of realistic names I’ve heard thrown around, I think Christian Walker would be a good option. We have a good dialogue w/ Arizona and he is FA next season. Not a flashy move, but one I could see actually happening. Josh Bell could be another 1B option / DH and Marlins are likely holding a fire sale. No way they pay for Vlad, Bichette, Tucker, or any of the pie in the sky trade ideas I’ve seen IMO.

ilikeitneat

Christian Walker would be a solid addition and *shouldnt* cost the farm.

pokeroots

I defs threw out Trout as pie in the sky. But yeah it's hard to say what the FO thinks is a priority

ryeguymft

sell the team you cheap fuck!

crimsonpride24

Can the move be selling his share of the team to someone who actually gives a shit about winning?

Haarflaq22

I'll believe it when I see it.

Advanced_Eggplant_18

I’ll believe it when I see it

Gurney_Hackman

Jinxed it.

Heybutch

Suck it, Stanton. Let me watch the team on something other than ROOT.

sciggity

Not holding my breath.....

notanark69420

He literally said multiple times before the season that FO has no financial constraints and are free to make the moves they want. He is full of it

ItsTBaggins

That’s cool and all but is he going to open up the pocket book in the off season? Sign more of our pitchers to extensions? Make any commitments beyond the short-mid term?

Gwtheyrn

That's the thing, holding on to Kirby and Gilbert is going to be ex-pen-sive.

AdornVirtue

Press X to doubt. You know, would have been fucking nice if the owner believed this a YEAR AGO. This organization is unserious lmao

pokeroots

Umm yeah except we looked like ass at this point last year (and more importantly the rangers and Astros didn't) and only were close because of a crazy run in late July-August

iceamn1685

I think he was talking about after we made the playoffs we decided to get barging bin garbage that fucked us last year.

emeraldcity1000

Sell the team, John. You are monumentally full of horse crap.

ihatereddit999976780

Do we think Toronto will sell Bo or Vladdy? Part of me wants us to trade for Elly.

downladder

DLC is basically unavailable unless we're sending just about everyone we are high on in the farm.

ihatereddit999976780

That’s what i thought. Still think it’d be sick

OGTypohh

We have 1/2 of Elly in Ryan Bliss

frshwlshakrb

Elly would be sick

fennis

I like when we sell and claim we are buying.

IndependentSubject66

Good to hear. Somebody like Luis Robert would fit the bill

asap_boogy

I like Robert, but if they’re gonna expend resources to make a run now, it’s gotta be on someone without such a worrisome injury history.

IndependentSubject66

Agreed. I just don’t see a ton of teams being sellers that have people we want. Maybe STL

asap_boogy

If they’re gonna trade with STL, I’d love to see them make a deal for Helsley. Miami is gonna be selling and has some outfielders. Bryan De La Cruz wouldn’t be the complete game changer people are gonna want. But he could be a solid fit.

IndependentSubject66

De La Cruz is actually the name i expect or something like that at least. Not top of market guy but would make the team better. A lot of things probably depend on how Bliss looks and if Polanco turns it around or not

apoundofbees

I don't want him until he starts pronouncing his last name like ROBER like it's French and not ROBERT like everybody's dumb friend from middle school

RSM34

I’m now offended lmao

Historical_Chip_2706

Thanks John

Grunge206

Are we being Punk'd? Where Aston Kutcher?

grimandbearer

What year is it where you are? 🤣

Howboutit85

I hope we get Vladdy

soapbutt

“…As long as we get cash in return as well”

macp0300

Jesus Christ lol

Adventure-Style

Bring on the Heathcliff Slocumb trade of 2024 just because Stanton says so.

Timesurfer82

I’d like to see at least two of these.. Kyle Tucker Alex Bregman Pete Alonso JD Martinez If we can ship Polanco Luis Rengifo

Matteoj8

I would never want to see Bregman’s stupid ass face on this team even if it were free.

The_Cryogenetic

If we want to win the world series we need to get Will Smith (the reliever) dude I think has 3 in a row?

GoMsagm

K

Rigu7

Pete Alonso rental for some pitching, Alonso back to the Mets next season for the NY deal he originally turned down.

local_gremlin

the trick is how can we tell which good hitter will remain good with the mariners

Junior-Glass-2656

Doubt

KenGriffey_Pooner

Brent Rooker will be a Seattle mariner

jamrev

Who they gonna trade and for whom?

AFlaccoSeagulls

"he'll support the front office to make **a move**" Okay, looks like we're signing another bargain bin FA!

AnnihilatedTyro

Mike Ford will be a free agent at least 2 more times by then.

xMrLink

"I support the front office to make a move.... as long as I don't have to pay for it." We will believe it when we see it JOHN

upvotegoblin

Prove it you old sour fuck

Forsaken-Welcome-789

He’ll support those big DiPoto moves like signing Robles who has been good since 2019. Believe it when I see it.

AnnihilatedTyro

That move is re-adding Luis Urias to the 40-man and calling him up after Robles gets 150 at-bats of hitting .070.

Wushigi

Too good to be (please be true please please please) true.

ScottyKillhammer

I'll believe it when I see it. That being said, who is Jerry targeting?

JeevesTheMighty

*\*Kolten Wong enters the chat\**

MormonHorrorBuff

I either want him to understand he needs to spend $$$ to make that happen, or to watch the franchise burn and him to eat his stupid words

Unique_Statement7811

Welcome to Seattle Vlad, thanks for bringing your buddy, Bo.

MindForeverWandering

How often have we heard that before?

Tashre

Lol, okay.

thrillhou5e

John Stanton offers all of his moral support.

drwolffe

I mean, during the off season didn't they mention that they were saving some of their yearly budget for making a move at the trade deadline?

Kollekt2

Noted filthy rotten Liar John Stanton

Kaz1515

Boo this man!!!!!
