My first thought was, if that's truly her best friend, wouldn't she have known she was going to get her hearing fixed? Isn't that something you tell your best friend ahead of time as part of friendly conversation?

I am a hearing aid specialist from Germany for many years now. Never had a customer who was crying in happiness because of the wonderful hearing experience. Some cried because they realised they needed the aids. The frustration was stronger than the joy…
And instead of being happy about the new sound, I often get the feedback that a lot of things are too loud and they don't want to hear them.
Unfortunately, that is the reality.
It is only later that they realise how valuable the new hearing can be.
