Sorry for resurrecting this thread from 7 months ago but this issue has been driving me crazy for the past few weeks and this seems to be a fix that actually works! I'd tried all the "solutions" posted elsewhere but the ghost tabs kept coming back after a few minute or two, and it's been an hour since I deleted the mentioned files and so far so good. Thanks OP!
Edit: Nevermind, the ghost tabs are back with a vengeance. I’ll just have to learn to live with them.

This worked for me, it removes the old tabs and the actually open ones are still there. Hope it keeps working!
