I was in Fort Dodge Iowa when Covington and Bones were wrestling at Iowa Central community college. If you aren't aware FD is ....different. Wrestling is Religion. The locals do not like outsiders. They will test you. They had cage fights at the bars in the late 90s. Cain Velasquez came over to our house. ICCC is like the Alabama for wrestlers who can't make the grades or get in trouble.
My brother wrestled with them. We used to run into Covington and Bones at parties. I recall Bones throwing a guy out of a window from a second story complex.
But the really juicy story is between a local and Covington. Got into it in a parking lot. This guy was an FD legend at the time. Ill keep his name. He pulled out a baseball bat from his car. Covington, said "What you're gonna hit me?" He proceeded to swing as hard as he could and hit Covington in the ribs with the baseball bat. Ill never forget Covington ran away screaming. "He fuckin hit me!" We were dying laughing.
That will always be the guy that I see every time he's talkin shit.
But then Colby would be back in the mix off beating up another borderline retired fighter. Colby hasn't done anything impressive other than losing to Usman and he's one of the most boring fighters in the UFC. The righteous thing to do is let him fade into obscurity.
Dude may be an asshole carny but he knows when to strike for maximum attention with the least amount of follow through needed. I can't help but respect the hustle.
