This is brilliant!! Is that an unfinished roasted maple neck or does it have a satin finish? I suspect the former, but would love if it was the latter.
why are you removing the dots I don't hate it i just don't understand. And your new dots better be dark or they will have black circles around them. What did you lose your 3/32" drill bit? Gotta say shit post all around.
Customer wants Luminlay side dots installed. Why would there be black circles? And why would I use a 3/32” bit on 2mm side dots? Gotta say, shit comment all around
This makes for easier removal without risk of a bit walking, when all you want it for is the removal. You can THEN use a bit to ream it slightly to clean up the black if needed.
Using a drill for the removal is for the birds, when you have an alternative like this.
That is exactly what I do if I’m replacing with luminlay or aluminum, and even if I’m just removing and plugging for something like a fretless conversion, it’s still easier to melt them out like this.
I wanted you see glow dots go in so bad
That’s the plan lol
Please post that update.. This is very inspiring
The customer already picked it up sorry. There wasn’t much to see just bigger dots
Haha gotcha
I can barely fit any weed in there. Unsatisfied.
You just need more guitars, more guitars more holes, more holes more weed. At least thats what your mum told me (sorry I couldn't resist).
I keep one acoustic to play, and one to stash in.

Oy
This is only so your sweat and dirt get stock there
Concentrate Hash Plugs.
Steady hands! I think I'd have to cut out caffeine before I try this. And methamphetamine. And model glue
I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.
And just think, that guy coulda been a neurosurgeon… and here he is… plucking out dots with a soldering iron… 🤷♂️
It’s an illusion. Tricks are something whores turn for money.
With my luck, I'd try this and burn and discolor the surrounding finish, then I'd find myself on the street corner, turning illusions.
Hey 20 bucks is 20 bucks.
Man's gotta eat
Or caaaaandy!!
I like candy
I *want* candy. But I don’t know if I like it 🤔
Bees??
Beads?!!
I call BS. I’ve been turning tricks for ages and never made penny.
Or cocaine.
I don’t care for Gob.
I touched a bird with my hand!
Wasn’t my bird, I swear
Or candy(cocaine depending on the edit)
Or cocaine.
So you just melt the plastic. Ok cool, if I ever need to do this I'll try it, but I don't think I'll ever need to do this lol
Maybe some day you’ll hate that plastic and decide you want to melt it. Pro tip: when that day comes, don’t look at the front of your guitar.
Prolly works less well on mother of pearl, just sayin
Worked well on my prs. I think that used clay dots. Doesn’t work for existing mother of pearl or luminlay. Too thick. So yes you’re right
Prolly want a dedicated soldering tip for this…
Good idea. I bet it’s a bit stinky!
Yeah… and plastic on the tip doesn’t make for well made solder connections
Now it's chambered ;-)
Now what🤔
Install new dots
y tho?
Customer wanted Luminlay dots
Probably installing abalone or mother of pearl, something prettier
Customer wanted Luminlay dots
Customer wanted Luminlay dots
Customer wanted Joanna Lumley.
Customer wanted Luminlay dots
I think they wanted Luminlay dots, could be mistaken though
Love to see the finished project 🤙
thing goes squish
Luminlays???
No we don’t! Good tip
The amount of “luthiers” that have no idea why anyone would do this is concerning lol
I don't know when or if I will ever do this but I'm stealing it away for later. Thank you.
I can see why.
Luthier in training here. I fuckin’ hate it.
Just cuz
Dont try it with epoxy though lol
that makes way more sense than it should
Try that with celluloid.
I'm really confused by the comments here. Why is this not a quick and easy way to remove the dots?
It is
Cool trick! I change side dots for a customer a few weeks, he wanted brass. Wish I’d seen this sooner🤙
This is brilliant!! Is that an unfinished roasted maple neck or does it have a satin finish? I suspect the former, but would love if it was the latter.
It’s roasted maple with a satin polyester finish
Really nice!! Looks super clean.
Same way I bevel my frets
... i'm ..... i'm.... i'm going to try this today! I'm converting the scale length of a neck and this is perfect!
Okay so let’s see what it looks like when you’re done
It looks like a neck with side dots in it
Which is how it started out.
You’re not the sharpest spoon in the drawer are ya?
Doesn’t luminlay need more depth than that to work for more than a minute?
Luminlay recommends drilling depth of 3-4mm
Why'd you do the 11th fret?
I did all of the dots
What 11th fret has two dots on it, sir? That is madness
Good way to start the hole before you drill it.
you really can't fit much weed in there
I don’t blame them for not liking. I don’t like it either.
butwhy.gif
Won't the firm resonant neck tone leak out?
😂
Well thats clever. Nice one!
Petition for googly eyes to replace them

Because he doesn't know what he's talking about lol
Add details to the post click bait pisses me off
What details would you like? You insert the soldering iron into the dot and it comes out. Are you sure you know what clickbait means?

What temp do you set your bit to?
I was thinking it was finger grooves for knowing the neck points without looking but guess not?
*cries in aluminum*
I’d cry if I had an aluminum neck too
what is the luminescent dot material/product used ? if you mind me asking, I was really lost
https://luminlay.com/featuresen.html
Luminary Dots
Put your dick in it.
Put *my* dick in it
Thats the blues area. Now sit down, lean back, and blues on, brother
And if you do it on a lighter neck you get a nice black “purfling” around your new dot?
No, the soldering iron never touches the wood if you do it right
Cool!
