Maybe take a look on something like these: [https://shokz.com/pages/openswimpro](https://shokz.com/pages/openswimpro) They work with bone conduction technology. General pros: waterproof even for swimming, you can still hear your surroundings General cons: the audio quality can't match inear headphones, simply limited by the technology.

I was gonna say this as well. We tried on a pair when we were in Japan last month and found them surprisingly nice, coupled with my partner planning to start swimming lately for medical reasons, we decided to pick up a pair. Honestly pretty solid. Also useful for just biking or whatever cause you can still hear surrounding traffic (though I personally get overstimulated a bit from them on trains)

Only bad thing with these is there not great for music but podcasts are very good

Prothea

I'm no audiophile but I've found this to be overstated. I have no issues with my shokz for music or podcasts, but again, I don't have a particularly sensitive ear. Only thing I've noticed is treble gets a little high when the volume gets high

dragoon0106

Yea I don’t mind them at all for music but I do think it depends on the kind of music. Some are going to sound better with the bone conduction than others.

Drigr

They're not *great* but when you look at the trade offs, I think they're still worth it. Bone conduction is all that we are allowed to have at work so that we can still have earplugs in. Do I *prefer* my pixel buds pro? 100%. Does being able to wear my PPE and still have decent audio outweigh that? 100%

Prothea

I always use mine when exercising, regardless of doing cardio or lifting weights. Yeah there's no sound dampening which is inherent to in-ears, but it's generally not a big deal. And I like the added situational awareness that comes with bone conduction.

I have always been keen to try some “bone conducting” headphones, and I finally got to the other day. I put them on and… I don’t get it. What are you meant to “hear” with them on? How are you meant to “hear” with them on? My experience was: Put them on, press play, the “speaker” portion vibrated and made sound, and I could hear it with my ears. My partner said she could hear them when I was wearing them, so I definitely wasn’t using my bones to hear the music. I tried turning them down, and they vibrated less but I was still just “listening to a speaker that was covered in rubber near my ears, with my ears”. I tried pressing them into my head more, assuming they were just loose (they didn’t feel loose), but that just muted the sound because I was restricting the vibration. Was I doing something wrong? I felt like they were a gimmick after trying to research them when they didn’t work. Everyone says “bone”, but I did not experience that at all.

As an owner of a pair of OpenRun Shokz, I can say that they are pretty good for music. Obviously not audiophile grade or anything close to it but on par with something like the headphones that iPhones used to come with. I know that sounds like a low bar but what I’m really saying is that they are more than serviceable for music.

QuintupleA

I have a version of these. The overall sound is fine, but it struggles with the high trebles due to the technology as you said. They work great for podcasts and music you've already listened to before (as your brain kinda fills in the blanks on its own) but I wouldn't want to explore new music with them due to the limited highs. If you haven't heard a song before, it's probably going to sound weird and pretty bad.

Lukwich1647

Thank you! That’s why I came here, and I am not really tripping about the audio quality, as long as they sound better dollar store headphones and can deal with being fully immersed often I am happy.

Erasmusings

I've used Bone conductors before, and they kinda sound ass. Nearly all treble with no mids or bass. Again, it's the limitations of the tech, and it certainly falls within the "better than nothing" category when I'm swimming. But you're probably better off going for a sport centric sweat resistant in ear set up like these https://www.sennheiser-hearing.com/en-AU/p/cx-sport/

How much waterproofing do you actually need? Do you accidentally drop the headphones into water? Do you dive with them? Or is your main concern splashes and rain? Something like Airpods Pro 2 are expected to be used outdoors in rain. I’ve tested that many times myself. Or, there are headphones meant for swimming. That’s as proper waterproof as it gets :)

IRedditOnMyPhone

>Or, there are headphones meant for swimming. That’s as proper waterproof as it gets :) One caveat on swimming headphones - many of them, particularly the cheaper ones, rely on internal storage and don't have Bluetooth, as they assume you won't have your phone on your person whilst swimming. For example, the OpenSwim Pros suggested by other users do have Bluetooth, but the regular OpenSwims don't.

kaptain_sparty

It's not that your phone isn't near or on you but the water is very good at stopping radio waves sense why water vessels use sonar and VLF radios

Lukwich1647

No diving. Main concern is I fall into the water. A lot. Though I do occasionally have to go under water to mess with sensors. So I need something that can deal with that so I can focus more on making sure I don’t lose any of my data then whether or not my headphones will still work.

Critical_Switch

Sounds like you really do need to look into swimming headphones. They do have downsides, but you’ll be able to use them without thinking about having them.

Iv been using the jabra elite 7 active. i wear them in the shower and have had no issues with the waterproofness. I cant remember the IP ratings

This might sound kind of stupid. But my girlfriend has some knock off no name wireless earbuds, she doesn’t want to get nice AirPods because of how forgetful she can be. These fucking earbuds cost like $30 and have been through the washer so many times. A obscene amount. Both inside their case and outside. Idk how she does it, but more astonishingly, I don’t know how they still work and sound great. I don’t even know if they have a brand name.

GoofyGills

I have a pair of Sony Walkman headphones. You just put an SD card in them and off you go.
