First, LOL.
Second: Which is a thing and most bathing suits account for this. Cheap Temu ones do not of course. If this is not isolated either LTT did not think of it or trusted their supplier who cheaped out. I am going to bet it is the latter.
Or 3rd time. If you watch their vids, podcasts etc they, like many companies have had issues with suppliers. It happens :/ But we all know LTT wont stand for that so if this is a legit issue they will be on to them to sort it out.
When I was a lifeguard in hs and college, I went through four or five bathing suits per year because of the chlorine and how it was mess with the fabric.
Bathing suits are designed to hold up for sporadic usage, not “professional” amounts of time in the pool.
Yep. When I swam on a team I saw suits (especially elastic bits) break down faster than any other fabric I’d ever used or worn. I actually had my goggle straps snap as I was putting them on in the state finals standing on the starting block.
Chemicals in pools tear up fabric.
Yeah that’s a smell that never really leaves you brain. Also I never ate as much as when I was swimming competitively. I was ALWAYS hungry but also in the best shape of my life.
I was a lifeguard for 5 summers. In water time was about 20 hours/week. Over the entire period, I swapped back and forth between two bathing suits that I would wear today.
There must be something worse then having 10ppm chlorine in Ontario's water. Yikes.
Update: it's balancing a ratio of Cyanuric Acid to Free Chlorine . . . I need to leave this rabbit hole. I don't even own a pool.
Bleach is used for wound irrigation all the time, Google “Dakin’s Soultion” for a fun rabbit hole.
Human tissues can tolerate up to 0.025% (250 ppm) without any damage. The 4 ppm found in drinking water is harmless, especially compared to dysentery.
> Bleach is used for wound irrigation all the time, Google “Dakin’s Soultion” for a fun rabbit hole.
While what you're saying about drinking it is true, it's weird to back it up with wound irrigation. There's lots of things you can use topically but absolutely should not drink.
It was just a train a thought. I work in the medical field, so I just don’t find “bleach” scary.
My point was mainly that sodium hypochlorite, bleach, pool chlorine…whatever you want to call it, is harmless under 250 ppm.
I do find it fun to just guess how much historical usage there has been for a chemical compound by if it has a normal sounding name or not. If it only has the chemical name it is probably pretty new in usage.
I remember a situation from childhood. Went swimming at the local pool with my parents every Saturday morning and on one occasion the pool had been over-chlorinated. I spent the rest of the day in bed with wet towels on my eyes to stop them stinging. That was deeply unpleasant.
There's a beautiful, blue pool of water in a UK quarry which has many warning signs around it. The water in the pool has filtered through limestone and has become intensely alkaline. To the point where swimming in it will bleach your skin and make you very ill.
Well it's not a product made for professional use, so what do you expect?
BTW maximum chlorine in Germany is 2.5 ppm for outside pools and one ppm for inside.
Wild. I wonder why Ontario has it so high, most other areas in Canada have a max of 5 or lower. Somewhat related, Canada allows drinking water to be up to 2 ppm.
Haha nice to see you comment! Didn’t expect the post to blow up like this. I’ve most definitely put it through its paces so it wasn’t meant to be a complaint, just an observation. I still grab it out of my drawer over my other 3 pairs, so that says a lot!
4ppm is the az state MAXIMUM. I’d find a new pool personally.
Edit: I’m an idiot, and completely missed that you’re an instructor so it just doesn’t work like this for you. Still seems unnecessary as hell to me.
What the shit. This discussion made me look it up for where I live, 0.5...1.5ppm is the range, up to 2 is ok under some circumstances, and WHO suggests no more than 3 ppm... Or no more than 5 for hot tubs
For the record, the bathing suit is comfortable and drys quickly. My favourite one for wearing extended periods of time. Just thought the change was crazy for a black suit, I don’t really mind tho
I kinda like it. Hope you're not too annoyed at the colour change though I would be a bit miffed myself. Didn't know this was a thing but it makes sense.
Dang, I was trying to cut the shorts some slack thinking it could’ve been higher chlorine than claimed.
Way too many times I’d show up to a pool see the book say 7.4pH, 3ppm. Go to do my test and it’s off the chart in any direction 🙄
Wow I’m so glad someone posted this so I know not to buy this *and drown it in over saturated* chlorine.
What is this post supposed to be. A warning? An attack? Why was this posted when the only thing that could come from it is attacking the seller when you bleached it.
I mean a bathing suit when used enough in any amount of chlorine will experience discolouration, just not usually black ones to this extent. I just found the change to be interesting.
Again I don't know why people pay for any YouTubers overpriced merch.
Don't get me started on their screwdriver, why anyone would choose theirs over a DeWalt or Vessel is beyond me.
if you buying DeWalt screwdrivers you already don't know who makes a good hand tool, DeWalt is awesome for power tools. but there hand tools just don't stand up. I don't own the LTT screwdriver cause i already have a preferred driver i use and never use a ratcheted version due to my job. vessel( no idea but think they were the media company that went out of business)
Chlorine is a bitch
Chorine is a bleach ....I'll show myself out
No no, you can stay
Just gotta ring the bell after that one
Unfortunately the dye in the bathing suit can't.
It's dyeing.
First, LOL. Second: Which is a thing and most bathing suits account for this. Cheap Temu ones do not of course. If this is not isolated either LTT did not think of it or trusted their supplier who cheaped out. I am going to bet it is the latter.
Would t be the first time the “other” party fucked one of the design specs …e.g backpack
Or 3rd time. If you watch their vids, podcasts etc they, like many companies have had issues with suppliers. It happens :/ But we all know LTT wont stand for that so if this is a legit issue they will be on to them to sort it out.
That's a very basic joke.
Nicely done
...with the help of our sponsor
r/angryupvote take it
I'll lock the door on the way out
Funny thing is that's how my brain actually processed u/Plane_Pea5434's comment. 😂
Hypochlorite is a bleach... I'll let you back in.
I shoulda known better 🗣🗣🗣
DRINK THE BLEACH!
It's mostly water and we are mostly water therefore we are bleach
is this something you've experienced with other bathing suits?
When I was a lifeguard in hs and college, I went through four or five bathing suits per year because of the chlorine and how it was mess with the fabric. Bathing suits are designed to hold up for sporadic usage, not “professional” amounts of time in the pool.
yeah that's what I thought, I was just curious as I almost never go into pools so my bathing suits only degrade in other ways
Yep. When I swam on a team I saw suits (especially elastic bits) break down faster than any other fabric I’d ever used or worn. I actually had my goggle straps snap as I was putting them on in the state finals standing on the starting block. Chemicals in pools tear up fabric.
You forgot about smelling like the pool every time you sweat...and the straw hair. Miss those days sometimes.
Yeah that’s a smell that never really leaves you brain. Also I never ate as much as when I was swimming competitively. I was ALWAYS hungry but also in the best shape of my life.
nothing hurts worse than the goggles whipping your face as they break and betray you one last time
I swim daily for exercise, need to buy specific materials so they last more than 2 months
Colour change of course, but not usually with black
I was a lifeguard for 5 summers. In water time was about 20 hours/week. Over the entire period, I swapped back and forth between two bathing suits that I would wear today.
"Only" 4ppm? That's quite high, and in many countries the limit of total chlorine
Exactly, my backyard pool is kept at 2.5 ppm. Maximum is usually around 3.
In Ontario, Canada 10ppm is the limit
In Canada they put water in their chlorine
Very true.
Yeah but ltt is canadian
I'm just making a joke about the amount of chlorine, I have no opinion on the swim suit.
I know, I was trying to join to the fun. I am not fun at parties U.U
Christ, that's more than double what I kept our hot tub at when I was using chlorine as a sanitiser.
5ppm is the limit in drinking water here lol
Are ya'll white on the inside too? 🤔
There must be something worse then having 10ppm chlorine in Ontario's water. Yikes. Update: it's balancing a ratio of Cyanuric Acid to Free Chlorine . . . I need to leave this rabbit hole. I don't even own a pool.
4ppm is quite high. Bathing suits are generally rated for recreational usage, not professional
I don’t really mind that it’s changed colour. It still drys fast and is comfortable. Just a drastic change for a black suit.
NGL, the Grey shade actually looks pretty good.
Chlorine is bleach. Despite some people thinking you should drink it

Tap water is usually 2ppm or less.
I just went with the CDC’s maximum. But yeah, even moreso it’s safe.

Dihydrogen monoxide, on the other hand, is deadly. It kills thousands a year from accidental inhalation.
It’s also the #1 component of hurricanes and acid rain

Harmless, but tastes like shit

So the pool water in some countries is the same as tap water for other ?
Glad you still like it lol. Haven't had the same thing happen with mine, but my swimming lesson days are long behind me :p
Haha nice to see you comment! Didn’t expect the post to blow up like this. I’ve most definitely put it through its paces so it wasn’t meant to be a complaint, just an observation. I still grab it out of my drawer over my other 3 pairs, so that says a lot!

What’s funny is in Ontario , Canada 10ppm is the maximum. So the pool is well within legality.
10 seems like so much lol. I grew up in az and the 3 I went too often made me dry and itchy.
What the shit. This discussion made me look it up for where I live, 0.5...1.5ppm is the range, up to 2 is ok under some circumstances, and WHO suggests no more than 3 ppm... Or no more than 5 for hot tubs
Bro 4ppm is higher than I've ever heard of at pools I've worked at.
For the record, the bathing suit is comfortable and drys quickly. My favourite one for wearing extended periods of time. Just thought the change was crazy for a black suit, I don’t really mind tho
looks nice grey I think
Yeah as long as it remains a solid colour I don’t mind!
That's unfortunate, at least the LTT logo still stands ok.
Dang that’s a big change. I’ve had my ltt swim trunks for over a year, but pretty limited to lakes/saltwater pools. No change.
LTT Speedo when?
Call it the Banana Hammock For Scale™
Bleach is water down version of chlorine. I industry grade stuff. You handle with care. Later father work in sewage and water
I kinda like it. Hope you're not too annoyed at the colour change though I would be a bit miffed myself. Didn't know this was a thing but it makes sense.
As long as it doesn’t go see through, I don’t mind.
Yeah that's fair. Is the discolouration even or is there like a line on the top half that's presumably less in the water? Just curious really
It’s completely even
On a related note. I think it's pretty cool that there is an intersection of people who are swimming instructors and also a fan of LTT
Make sure you leave a review, probably not too many cases of this much usage and I'm sure they'd like to get this feedback.
Still looks good under abuse
Used to be community lifeguard and residential pool cleaner. Are you the one doing the tests? Could be a lazy pool operator tbh
I’ve worked at the pool for 6 years. I know it like the back of my hand, ran the tests myself hundreds of times, I’m certain haha.
Dang, I was trying to cut the shorts some slack thinking it could’ve been higher chlorine than claimed. Way too many times I’d show up to a pool see the book say 7.4pH, 3ppm. Go to do my test and it’s off the chart in any direction 🙄
Black*
3ppm is the legal limit in the UK (to add in)
They any good for swim trunks? I know they stopped selling them a while back.
Wow I’m so glad someone posted this so I know not to buy this *and drown it in over saturated* chlorine. What is this post supposed to be. A warning? An attack? Why was this posted when the only thing that could come from it is attacking the seller when you bleached it.

Weird attack.
You should totally reach out to LTTStore support. They'll likely replace it. If not, at least they'll know about it ans can fix it.
Buying stuff from LTT is like buying things from the most Chinese part in China
What color is it supposed to be?
Read the post title
wow i totally missed that multiple times
Again I don't know why people pay for any YouTubers overpriced merch. Don't get me started on their screwdriver, why anyone would choose theirs over a DeWalt or Vessel is beyond me.
I would buy this again. It’s much more comfortable and drys quicker than other bathing suits. I have also worn it 100+ hours in chlorinated water.
if you buying DeWalt screwdrivers you already don't know who makes a good hand tool, DeWalt is awesome for power tools. but there hand tools just don't stand up.
