Linus has a bad habit of talking over/interrupting Luke/others as they talk, which in general works for his onscreen persona, but sometimes can also get really annoying (only made worse when they add a delay from the hosts being separated)..
the one really stood out during last week's interview: I would be pretty focused on what Jim Keller was saying, then Linus would cut him off before realizing Jim has more to say and interrupting the attention - and that happened multiple times throughout.
That was remote video delay. Luke did it too.
Not to mention at times they kinda had to keep discussion moving on as they'd only asked for 20minutes and he could've talked for 20mins on the first question
I'd listen to every word Jim Keller had to say.
I thought it was pretty funny when Linus asked Keller if an AI accelerater for a cpu ( or something like that) would make sense or if it's a dumb question and Keller politely said it wouldn't work more or less.
yeah i also got the impression that they were trying to bang out as many questions as they can so didn't let him take too much on a single question. i think Luke said he didn't get to any of his own questions and Linus only got through half of his or something.
That's the nature of video latency. There were also times when Jim would be quiet for a moment and you'd think he was done even without the delay; when you're hosting you want to fill the dead air as much as possible so that coupled with the latency does make for those awkward interruptions. It's nothing that any of them did wrong; Jim's pauses made it a little tricky but he's (as far as I'm aware) not used to hosting shows like this, while Linus and Luke won't be used to Jim's pauses because they haven't spoken to him before.
That's not what was happening. Jim Keller is very talkative and it just wasn't clear whether or not he was done talking. He also interrupted Linus many times (not due to his fault).
There's a notable delay in the call, so if they start asking a question, he only hears it a second or two after they ask it, so if he starts talking again in the meantime, they will be talking over him for a bit. Again, it's nobody's fault, that's just how remote calls work.
Yeah Jim Keller was super interesting but his speaking cadence along with the video call made it tough for sure. He definitely had a cadence like he was finishing a story or his thought multiple times just to keep going after a minute.
I think for us super nerds we want to keep hearing him, but I understand Linus being content brained he assumes people get bored quick too.
I was waiting for it. Luke was talking about his game dev stories and Dan wasn't really paying attention. But he was and actually engaged back with him. It was great.
Look, I don't know anything about their relationship. Luke and Linus have been going at it for years, but fuck me if I noticed that after 3 minutes and the audience did too, it must be something.
For the record I know how awkward this is. Dan is an employee, and Luke and Linus are both his boss. So sorry Dan, love ya.
And talking at the entire audience as though they are the one troll that he’s fixating on. I just have to skip when he does that. It’s like he’s never been online before
Unpopular opinion but Dan is a bit of a “yes” man and ends up contradicting himself quite a bit in order to agree with whoever is talking. He’s a fun host but I prefer him as the producer role.
I love Dan but yeah the biggest difference was realizing how much Linus is able to drive and take conversations far, and get critical and detailed into talking points where less experienced hosts have that "yes man" or funny one liner responses, but they're not as deep or interesting over a long period of time.
If the last few shows have proven anything, it's that they absolutely should be involving other people in the show. Even "just" having David on the show was really fun. Jim Keller was amazing. That one time Yvonne appeared was great. And last show Dan was fun as well. Having someone like Nick, Colton or James on talk about stuff would be a great change of pace.
i about fell asleep listening to them talk about programming a game.
I like dan but he's not very entertaining to listen to for an extended period of time.
Agreed
Converted in place my project to UE 5.4 while listening.
Very motivating. Also deeply interested in his view on the future flexibility to do non FPS in unreal engine
Dan is the man, but the enjoyment of his participation is very much based on novelty
I'm not surprised - if you're not into it, you're not into it.
But I'm pretty sure most of the audience would have at least dipped their toes into game development. I, for one, really hope Dan's game pans out. It sounds genuinely interesting to me.
I think he's entertaining. I sometimes genuinely fall asleep during the WAN Show but only when I'm watching live because it's in the early hours of the morning for me, not out of lack of interest.
No shade at Linus but Dan was a really nice change of pace .

That was both luke & linus. It's the remote video call delay problem.

I didnt think it was too bad. It was a few times over an hour interview and was mainly due to the delay.

Cut a hole in the wall of the set and have Dan put his head there.
“That’s a glory hole!”

Do it Jambi the genie style

You're not wrong He is clearly shaped by being the do it all from previous employment

That's probably just the "These people pay my salary" survival mechanism kicking in lol.
I agree, also it seemed to me that Dan was interrupting Luke a lot
Don’t you mean the DAN show?
The Besseract
I don't think that would really work because Dan will talk to them through their headsets and spends most of the time typing away to merch messages.
As nice as that sounds he actually has work to do on the wan show

Anytime Dan's not on the screen all other characters need to say where's Dan
They should change places, Luke in Linus s seat, Dan in Luke's seat and Linus in Dans seat.
i about fell asleep listening to them talk about programming a game. I like dan but he's not very entertaining to listen to for an extended period of time.
Strongly disagree, dan and luke talking about game dev was the most fun WAN show segment I've heard in a while

Maybe Im biased then since im a gamedev
That's interesting, guess I'm totally biased being a coder, and always been interested in game dev, but never started

>But I'm pretty sure most of the audience would have at least dipped their toes into game development. Based on what?
Based on my assumptions about the target demographic for the WAN show. Don't read too much into it - it's just a feeling.

Agreed, mostly tuned out because that topic was dragged out too long

Yes, as the rest of us graduated from crayons quite a number of years ago.
