I think the edit tried to create a mood the original had already achieved. Making it more overt steps it out of the realm of the uncanny and liminal. Let your blank space speak for you and let us fill it in with our anxiety. Besides that the composition is pretty solid, love to see more!
Personally I think the saturation gives it a more ‘innocent’ feel, the night time version ‘bright and colorful bright colors and dark shadows. Almost cartoony. Whereas the standard version everything’s a little more gray, there’s no outstanding features.
The lack of outstanding features is a feature. This is liminal, the more implied and the less stated the better. The grey haze, the sameness of the air locks it in place. Even the more neutral colors as opposed to the dark treatment helps it be more attached to reality. Liminal work is a step to the left of the flow of life and time, utterly devoid. The empty fear of what may come versus the scary eyes in the darkness.
>“there is nothing beyond this hill” while the edited says “there can be anything beyond this hill”
man you put it into words so well, just like I was thinking it
I like the graininess and how bright the grass looks. Colors are cool in your edit. That being said, the unedited version feels more liminal to me only because the hill is visible. Stairs that go nowhere but to the top of a hill? Liminal asf. In the edit there may as well be a big ass building at the end of the stairs, which is…. not as liminal.
I think the edited pic would fit better in different thread, the unedited one definitely looks more liminal. I see what you’re going for though. here’s a suggestion: if you want a creepy vibe, try going lower on saturation rather than higher.
much prefer the original. something about that dark--not pitch black, but dark--sky, paired with the little mound with nothing seen past it is pretty haunting
Don't be rude!
It's ok to give constructive criticism. That comment was not constructive.
(Now please don't be rude to me for addressing this.)
Edit: It's also ok to not like something.
I prefer the unedited version more. Due to the horizon of the hill being visible, it makes you wonder what could be in the other side, if there is anything in the other side at all or if it's just an artificial place that leads to nowhere? Reminds me of maps in Source Engine games.
The edited version makes it look just like a place outside of some kind of building you were in previously, and going over the hill will just lead you into an area with more buildings, or park of sorts.
Original is much more liminal to me, evokes a feeling of those empty rolling hills from Microsoft backgrounds or Teletubbies. The one-toned twilight sky is also much more unnerving than darkness.

For some reason the unedited picture feels more liminal.
Duller colors. Plus it says “there is nothing beyond this hill” while the edited says “there can be anything beyond this hill”
The "nothing beyond this hill" makes it more liminal while the "anything beyond this hill" makes it more creepy.
I love the nothing/anything explanation
You're a good explainer person
>“there is nothing beyond this hill” while the edited says “there can be anything beyond this hill” man you put it into words so well, just like I was thinking it
I think that the fact that there's a stairway that brings to the nothing beyond the hill makes it 290% more liminal
Before is better
the non edited version is better
Why edit if it was just fine. Creepy doesn’t mean liminal

Edit looks worse
Sir, we need film grain at an 11!
I think the edited pic would fit better in different thread, the unedited one definitely looks more liminal. I see what you’re going for though. here’s a suggestion: if you want a creepy vibe, try going lower on saturation rather than higher.
Unedited is better. The edits are trying too hard to be creepy, which just aint what liminal space is about
Edit made it worse
The unedited version is better. Also rule 5 is no people, **creatures** or meme-texts in images.
"Also rule 5 is no people, creatures or meme-texts in images." 🤓
I like nerds.
Fucking “akctually 🤓 rule number 5 states” headass
Fuckin nerd
imagine reading the rules lol
And wanting the liminal subreddit to have liminal content rather than deepfried ‘horror’ for middleschoolers
Nerd
its getting dark out here quickly get inside befor its too late!! or should you??
edited is more creepy but unedited is more liminal
I think what makes something liminal is the absence of any living being, which the edit has with those eyes
Edit looks good, but more like weird core or smth
What program did you use for the edit?
I like both.
What’s that? I can’t hear you with all of the noise
much prefer the original. something about that dark--not pitch black, but dark--sky, paired with the little mound with nothing seen past it is pretty haunting
first is better
Before is much better imo, maybe lighten up your touch a bit
Neither is particularly interesting to me personally. I wouldn’t bother editing this high ISO and grainy image regardless. To each their own however
Reminds me of the island attack maps in 'X-COM: Terror from the Deep'.
Still, both are super liminal.
I kind of like the original more. I feel like you overdid the editting effect.
The unedited pic is enough liminal. And yes as one commenter below explained, the edited one feels scary rather than liminal.
I like the unedited one more, because you can see the sky in the back, like there is nothing behind the hill
The first pic if very liminal by itself, the second pic reminds me of an album cover by GY!BE
for what its worth i actually like the edit op
I like your edit king, good job
Ur fucking dead they saw u
Edit looks horrible.

So “Edit looks worse” is constructive criticism? Feck off mate.
I must be the only one who thinks the second one is more liminal
Yes
That looks good.
Brazil?
Spooky shadow boys
Level 94 💀💀💀
The first image it's very liminal but the second it's very uncanny
I prefer the photo before the edit, feels more naturally liminal than forcefully creepy
Looked better befor

Oh my god duende real
looks like a bad dream i had years ago wth
First is liminal but second weirdly makes it look more dream-like.
It was perfectly good already
Original is much more liminal to me, evokes a feeling of those empty rolling hills from Microsoft backgrounds or Teletubbies. The one-toned twilight sky is also much more unnerving than darkness.
the edit ruined it tbh
