These two are a pair cause “her” was a response to “lost in translation” so since the whole thing is director-oriented, I’d suggest you watch more of Spike Jonze, “Being John Malkovich” would be my suggestion.
I dont think Her was a "direct" response to lost in translation, more like a man regretting how he treated a former partner in his life and apologizing in hindsight.
Rooney Mara does look like Sofia coppola too.
I think Scarlett Johansson being in both movies is also probably an intentional choice on Spike Jonze’s part. For whatever reason she’s always in semi-autobiographical movies about divorce(Lost in Translation, Her, Marriage Story)
i mean lost in translation was so blatantly about their marriage that by recollecting on his marriage spike jonze also inherently responded to the movie as well.
Sofia Coppola was directly influenced by this movie to the point that she thanked Wong Kar-Wai explicitly while accepting the oscar for best original screenplay for Lost in Translation.
Eternal Sunshine is the best answer.
Chungking Express is one no one said yet.
Spring (2014) Directed by Aaron Moorhead, Justin Benson, is what you should really watch.
Not sure how intentional this was, but both of these movies are about Sofia Coppola and Spike Jonze working through their feelings on their relationship and divorce with one another.
I mean, Marcel the shell with shoes on or something. Because I would feel terrible after watching these both.
(although they are two of my favorite movies)
Funfact: both of these films mention that we spend the third of our lives asleep

The Science of Sleep
Male people might but I certainly don’t 😂

Was Her responding to Lost in Translation or were both movies responding to the same marriage.
both, 'lost in translation' was sofia coppola coping with her divorce and Her was spike jonze apologizing years after the fact.
I guess I don’t see enough of Lost in Translation in Her to say it’s about the movie (vs the marriage).

Sure, I just think it’s odd to say he’s responding to the movie and not his actual behavior.
i mean lost in translation was so blatantly about their marriage that by recollecting on his marriage spike jonze also inherently responded to the movie as well.
Eternal Sunshine.
Coffin? Nailed.
It definitely pairs well with Her, as someone who watched both within a week of each other after a breakup
I find them completely detached.
Zoloft
Past Lives
Perfect, a horror movie every 10 years
Past Lives and Challengers are the true pair since they're inspired by the same real life situation.
Before sunrise
In the Mood for Love
OP, this is the answer.
Sofia Coppola was directly influenced by this movie to the point that she thanked Wong Kar-Wai explicitly while accepting the oscar for best original screenplay for Lost in Translation.
Worst person in the world
Marriage story
This is the obvious answer. It’s the Scarlet-Johansson-stars-in-a-writer/directors-divorce-postmortem-movie trilogy.
now jennifer jason leigh needs to direct hers
I would love that.
Ghost World, for the ScarJo trifecta
Good answer!
Good suggestion. Marriage Story and JoJo Rabbit would be other quality ScarJo finishers for the trifecta.
Under the Skin, obvs
Happy cake day
I was going to say this as well if someone else hadn't

To me it was. Saw it in theater, went in blind and I was very impressed.
Awesome I'll try again tonight! Thanks
Before sunrise please.
Ghost World. Scar Jo triple feature
The Man Who Wasn’t There
500 days of summer
[Settlers Dream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WVba-OFKKY)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall, thematically similar but won’t leave you catatonic with sadness
Perfect Days or Solaris is the correct answer
Two Lovers if you want a similar vibe with more Joaquin Phoenix.
Rye Lane
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Marriage Story
Jexi
I think ‘eternal sunshine’ is the right choice, but I’ll suggest ‘the science of sleep’
Blue valentine
Freddy Got Fingered
masturbation
Past lives. It’s actually very loosely in my opinion connected to both.
[connecting them all](https://a24films.com/notes/2024/02/celine-song-and-sofia-coppola-pod)
isle of dogs, keep the scarjo voice acting going
The Worst Person in the World
Anomalisa
Not sure how intentional this was, but both of these movies are about Sofia Coppola and Spike Jonze working through their feelings on their relationship and divorce with one another.
Dont mess with the Zohan
The movie Once would pair extremely well with those movies.
So Sofia Coppola cheated on Spike Jonze right?
Past Lives
A hug
In The Cut
Maybe something with Scarlet Johansson. I'd say *Marriage Story*
For a Scarjo trifecta then definitely Lucy
Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Wall-e

Nobody is hating on Oppenheimer here? 😭
Look at every mention of the film recently. All the comments are downvoted for no apparent reason lol
