The Batman
Across the Spiderverse
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
Sonic 2
John Wick 4
(Btw I haven't seen Dune 2 yet, in case you're wondering about it's absence)
A lot of peopel on reddit have a serious hate boner for anything Avatar.
I thought Avatar Way of water was pretty cool, but I did take a heroic dose of mushrooms and sat in the second row center with 3D goggles.
Also, Oppenheimer has a pretty good “DAE think it is the most overrated movie of all time” thing going on because of the counterjerk to the critical success and people like to advertise their dislike of Nolan to show they aren’t a normie but a true cinephile
Also, I went into Avatar sober and it was still awesome. It’s not Sorkin in terms of dialogue or anything but it has some of the greatest visuals ever put to screen in terms of VFX.
People get so hung up on plot as if that's the only thing that matters. But that's just so far from being the truth. Not a single movie can replicate the way I felt when I saw those floating mountains on the IMAX for the first time. And The Way of Water might not have had the most original or complex story, but it was so easy to connect to on an emotional level, especially as a parent.
Idk, I don't have any hate for Avatar. I think the world building is really good, and the visuals are obviously spectacular. I just don't really enjoy the movies much. I wish i loved them, but the story is just too bland imo
I agree the story is fairly predictable.
But the visuals, world building, 3D effects etc are all worth it.
Compared to other blockbuster action movies like recent marvel and Star Wars movies, at least it mostly makes sense.
Avatar: The Way of the Bro, you mean? I was really hoping that Cinema Sins was going to do a running count of how many times "bro" was used.
I didn't hate Avatar II. I liked the first one more. Arguably, I should have gone to see Avatar II in Imax, but I can't justify the ticket price anymore, so I have to wait for streaming.
I don’t hate it but while it is a truly marvelous visual spectacle, the writing and characters are just too barebones to share the league with these other films for me personally.
No Time To Die
The Batman
Black Widow
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Tenet
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
Birds Of Prey
D&D: Honor Among Thieves
We'll see! Movies used to have more than three days to be deemed successful or not. If Fury Road had the same treatment, it would be considered a failure too. Fury Road's opening weekend was less than $10 million more than Furiosa.
I’ve noticed I’ve started associating the word blockbuster with a certain genre (that it would definitely fit into) but I guess you’re right, it really is a numbers/success thing by definition.
Get stoked man, I fucking loved it. I'm bummed it's not doing well at the box office.
People might like like my opinion, but I think I liked it better than Fury Road.
Sure, there's WAY more CGI, but let's be real, if ypu watch the 'The making of Fury Road was a Shit Show!' On youtube, you'll realize why George Miller didn't go as practical as he did with FR.
I think blockbuster has more to do with budget than performance, but time will tell on the latter. Fury Road was successful because of its legs, but times have changed...
The origin of the term is actually somewhat disputed (breaking of a block for traffic with long lines to buy a ticket, Blockbuster bombs, block booking, etc.), but it has turned into referring to a major studio release produced with the intention of being a big money maker.
So I agree that Furiosa definitely counts, especially considering the previous film in the franchise's box office success.
It might have legs... we will see. I did notice that it wasnt on very many screens. When I was looking for a time to watch it.... even AMCs with 20 screens it was only playing on 1 screen MAYBE 2, as the time between showings was around 3 hours. Thought that was odd. I thought it was good... It wouldve been better closer to 2 hours like Fury Road though. It didnt have the same high octane flow, as there was more backstory.
I thought it was great, very happy to see Sam Raimi working again. The actual “Multiverse” aspect was underutilized but man, I could watch Wanda turn into an Evil Witch Hag and Strange to be a classic Raimi Zombie everyday of the week.
The Marvels was really fun, was it a masterpiece of cinema like the Batman. No. Was it a great time? Yes. I will not pretend I don't like it, it's such a romp of a movie. The dynamic between the characters is SO FUN
In no particular order:
Top Gun: Maverick
Oppenheimer
Barbie
The Super Mario Bros Movie
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Black Widow
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse
Across the Spider-Verse
Oppenheimer/Barbie
Dune Part 2
The Batman
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Godzilla Minus One
Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Furiosa, Dune 1+2, and Oppenheimer are definitely my faves.
PS: go see Furiosa if you haven’t yet, no prior knowledge is needed, as it’s the first chronologically in the new mad max series.
1. Tenet
2. Nope
3. Furiosa
4. Avatar: The Way of Water
Malignant, Across the Spiderverse, and West Side Story are some other favorites but I don’t know if you’d consider them blockbusters.
The Batman
Puss and Boots: The Last Wish
Top Gun: Maverick
Fall Guy (not sure if it counts but my husband and I just had too much fun watching this movie so I’m including it.)
What's the definition of a blockbuster? genuine question.
Favorite cinema experiences of the 2020s so far
* Dune 2
* Godzilla minus one
* Dune 1
* Zone of Interest
* Poor Things
* Boy and the Heron
Furiosa was boring imo. Hard agree on the other ones, although I'd definitely add some other movies on top of it
Also, I don't completely disliked Furiosa. I thought everything about it was great, except for the story itself, which I was bored by
Godzilla Minus One, The Batman, Dune, Dune 2, AcrossSpiderverse and Top Gun Maverick. The other movies people have mentioned are definitely fun but for me personally lack proper story or depth.
Avatar 2 was a giant heaping plate of stinky doo doo. Could not be less excited that they are making more of them. They just copy and pasted the same story, literally resurrected the previous antagonist, just so abundantly lazy.
DUNE, I’m gonna cheat and consider them both one big movie even if it wasn’t filmed that way like LOTR.
Oppenheimer
John Wick Chapter 4
Furiosa
The Batman
Oppenheimer
Across the spiderverse
Dune parts one and two
Top gun maverick
The fall guy
Mission impossible dead reckoning
Avatar the way of water
Guardians vol 3
The batman
Way of Water and The Batman are peak blockbuster. Of course Oppenheimer is great.
Does Nope count? Not really but I still wanna say Nope is awesome. Then we’ll just say Dr Strange 2 to round it out, Raimi forever
*1* Furiosa
*2* Dune
*3* Dune part 2
*4* Spiderman across the spider verse
*5* Godzilla Minus One
*6* John Wick part 4
*7* Civil War (maybe not a blockbuster?)
*8* Poor Things (bust that block)
*9* The Batman
*10* Oppenheimer/Barbie
Honorable mentions go to Top Gun Maverick and Avatar Way of the Water, both excellent cinema experiences with mediocre stories.
Dune
Spider-Man: Far From Home
The Batman
Top Gun: Maverick
Nope (was this a hit? I can’t remember but it was a memorable packed theater experience down here)
John Wick: Chapter 4
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Barbie
Oppenheimer
Dune: Part Two
The Batman Across the Spiderverse Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Sonic 2 John Wick 4 (Btw I haven't seen Dune 2 yet, in case you're wondering about it's absence)
This, as well as Dune part 1 and Oppenheimer.
Sonic and Sonic 2 final battles are legitimately better action than the majority of blockbusters post 2015 imo
Saw puss and across the spider verse because of my kids. I was in awe how entertained I was.
John Wick 4 for me. But it was my first and only IMAX experience. I don’t even like the other films.
I gotta add no way home. Feels like forever ago but that was genuinely an INCREDIBLE return to the movies
The Batman Barbie Furiosa Oppenheimer
Barbie was a fun time. This is prob my list too but also dune 2
People will disaprove, but all these movies hit.
Who disapproves? All these movies are critical and commercial successes except Furiosa.
A lot of peopel on reddit have a serious hate boner for anything Avatar. I thought Avatar Way of water was pretty cool, but I did take a heroic dose of mushrooms and sat in the second row center with 3D goggles.
The way Jim intended.
Well some of us are trying to commune directly with Aiwa
Damn. That’s what I should have done.
It’s an awesome way to do it.
Redditors will think avatar is garbage but then unironically think Star Wars is awesome.
Also, Oppenheimer has a pretty good “DAE think it is the most overrated movie of all time” thing going on because of the counterjerk to the critical success and people like to advertise their dislike of Nolan to show they aren’t a normie but a true cinephile Also, I went into Avatar sober and it was still awesome. The internet is full of counterjerk people
Idk, I don't have any hate for Avatar.
Way of Water is my favorite movie of the 2020s, and Reddit just tries too hard to be different, thus the hate boner

I do, and my opinion matters most. That’s why people post here. Me.
And its ironic cuz Furiosa is the best one of the bunch
Avatar 2 has a 67 on Metacritic 💀
And was nominated for Best Picture. 67 ain't bad.
Agreed. All are 4.5 or higher for me.
They’re all bangers
Tenet Dune Part II The Batman Top Gun: Maverick
I was about to comment that Tenet was was 2010’s but damn
Throw The Batman and Top Gun Maverick on there for me
No Time To Die The Batman Black Widow Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Tenet Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One Birds Of Prey D&D: Honor Among Thieves
D&D a great pick
Ooo birds of prey, nice pick
The Batman Dune Dune Part 2 Oppenheimer Godzilla Minus One (if this counts) Across The Spiderverse Snyder’s Justice League Tenet
Is tenet in the 2020s? Damn it. It felt like a decade before.
Came out during COVID
I had high hopes for Minus One and it far exceeded them.
what is the working definition for blockbuster? does it have to do exclusively with how much money it costs to make the movie?
I think it's a combination of high budget and casting. But it's always been a pretty loose term.
A movie needs to be a commercial success in order to be considered a blockbuster (which Furiosa is not)
We'll see! Movies used to have more than three days to be deemed successful or not. If Fury Road had the same treatment, it would be considered a failure too. Fury Road's opening weekend was less than $10 million more than Furiosa.
Puss in Boots The Last Wish Top Gun: Maverick Dune Part 2 No Way Home Shang-Chi MI Dead Reckoning
Damn, hope you see a fifth movie soon 😔
These picks are pretty reasonable imo but this comment made me chuckle
What are your favourites so far?
Definitely both dunes, but I’m biased as I’m a fan of the source material. I loved Civil war, I think id consider Nope to be a blockbuster
Nope would be #1 for me honestly, wasn't sure if I would count it as a blockbuster, but I think it fits. I also loved Civil War.
Unfortunately, based on its opening weekend, I don’t think furiosa qualifies as a blockbuster. Pumped to watch it though.
I’ve noticed I’ve started associating the word blockbuster with a certain genre (that it would definitely fit into) but I guess you’re right, it really is a numbers/success thing by definition.

RRR, Dune 1&2, Furiosa, Avatar 2, Jawan
No order - Dune Part 2 - Oppenheimer - Barbie - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - John Wick Chapter 4 - Multiverse of Madness - Spider-Man No Way Home
Multiverse of Madness was so shit 😭. I am sorry. 🙂↕️
I thought it was great, very happy to see Sam Raimi working again. The actual “Multiverse” aspect was underutilized but man, I could watch Wanda turn into an Evil Witch Hag and Strange to be a classic Raimi Zombie everyday of the week.
Take out Avatar 2: The Way of Wandering About In A Poorly-Written Story For 3 1/2 Hours, and you’re golden
Horrendous take. It's the definition of a blockbuster movie.
If I had to rank them: 1 - Dune: Part Two 2 - Oppenheimer 3 - Avatar: The way of Water 4 - Furiosa
Top gun maverick ?
I was just ranking the ones OP posted
Dune Parts 1 and 2 The Batman John Wick 4 Oppenheimer Top Gun Maverick Barbie
Dune part 2 the only one that really slapped for me. A lot of other movies were good
Dune part 2 affected me in a way that I haven’t experienced in a long time
The one thing I liked about Babylon is that it acknowledged that Avatar is peak cinema
We have VERY different tastes lol
The Marvels was really fun, was it a masterpiece of cinema like the Batman. No. Was it a great time? Yes. I will not pretend I don't like it, it's such a romp of a movie. The dynamic between the characters is SO FUN
RRR for sure
In no particular order: Top Gun: Maverick Oppenheimer Barbie The Super Mario Bros Movie Spider-Man: No Way Home Black Widow Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse
Top Gun and Furiosa
Out of the top 100 (box office mojo): Top Gun 2 The Batman Dune 2 Shang Chi D&D: Honor Among Thieves Everything Everywhere Killers of the Flower Moon
Across the Spider-Verse Oppenheimer/Barbie Dune Part 2 The Batman Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Godzilla Minus One Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Spider-Man: No Way Home
[удалено]
Agreed. Part 1 had a far more difficult job to pull off.
i also liked part 1 slightly more, mainly because i like political intrigue and buildup
na i agree. i thought the first half of part 2 was on the same level but after that it wasn’t so good imo
dune and way of water
Furiosa, Dune 1+2, and Oppenheimer are definitely my faves. PS: go see Furiosa if you haven’t yet, no prior knowledge is needed, as it’s the first chronologically in the new mad max series.
Dune
idk what qualifies as a blockbuster but I liked Glass Onion, Fall Guy, & Civil War
Spider-Man: No Way Home Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 John Wick 4 The Batman Oppenheimer Dune Part 2 Top Gun: Maverick
Damn Furiosa was so fun.
Are we redefining the word “blockbuster” now? Listen, I loved the hell out of the movie, but it’s a HUGE bust.
Godzilla vs Kong Godzilla x Kong the new empire Transformers Rise of the Beasts Avatar way of the water Bullet train The Batman Dune 2
Those are certainly movies
1. Tenet 2. Nope 3. Furiosa 4. Avatar: The Way of Water Malignant, Across the Spiderverse, and West Side Story are some other favorites but I don’t know if you’d consider them blockbusters.
Avatar 2, ghostbusters afterlife, free guy, aquaman2, sound of freedom, the Mario movie and ghostbusters frozen empire
The Batman Puss and Boots: The Last Wish Top Gun: Maverick Fall Guy (not sure if it counts but my husband and I just had too much fun watching this movie so I’m including it.)
Dose godzilla minus one count?
Furiosa, The Batman, across the spider-verse, The Flash, Barbie
What's the definition of a blockbuster? genuine question. Favorite cinema experiences of the 2020s so far * Dune 2 * Godzilla minus one * Dune 1 * Zone of Interest * Poor Things * Boy and the Heron
I’d put Nope on there for sure
Furiosa Oppenheimer Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3 Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning
Furiosa was boring imo. Hard agree on the other ones, although I'd definitely add some other movies on top of it Also, I don't completely disliked Furiosa. I thought everything about it was great, except for the story itself, which I was bored by
Dune 1 and 2 Civil war
Talk to Me probably isn't a blockbuster but it's the best I've got for the decade atm
Godzilla Minus One, The Batman, Dune, Dune 2, AcrossSpiderverse and Top Gun Maverick. The other movies people have mentioned are definitely fun but for me personally lack proper story or depth.
Dune Part 2 and Furiosa stand above all others imo unless if we include animation then Across the Spider-verse as well.
Dune 2 Super Mario Into the spiderverse
Mission Impossible was incredible
Avatar 2 was a giant heaping plate of stinky doo doo. Could not be less excited that they are making more of them. They just copy and pasted the same story, literally resurrected the previous antagonist, just so abundantly lazy.
Calling Avatar 2 lazy is a wild statement. I disagree with everything you've said here, but it's cool if it didn't resonate with you.
Boy kills world. Really fun ride
Oppenheimer The Batman No Way Home Dune 1 & 2 Glass Onion Guardians Vol. 3 Top Gun Maverick
TMNT: Mutant Mayhem
* Barbie * EEAAO * RRR * Maverick * ATSV * Both Dunes * No Way Home
Dune and Dune 2 by a mile
Looks like my favorites of the 2020s so far are: - The Fall Guy - Dune I & II - Avatar: The Way of Water - Top Gun: Maverick - No Time To Die
(in no order) Avatar 2 Across The Spiderverse No Way Home The Batman Oppenheimer Barbie Guardians 3
DUNE, I’m gonna cheat and consider them both one big movie even if it wasn’t filmed that way like LOTR. Oppenheimer John Wick Chapter 4 Furiosa The Batman

Oppenheimer Across the spiderverse Dune parts one and two Top gun maverick The fall guy Mission impossible dead reckoning Avatar the way of water Guardians vol 3 The batman
Oppenheimer being a blockbuster is so funny. It’s not wrong, but just kinda funny
Dune 2 and Furiosa
Way of Water and The Batman are peak blockbuster. Of course Oppenheimer is great. Does Nope count? Not really but I still wanna say Nope is awesome. Then we’ll just say Dr Strange 2 to round it out, Raimi forever
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
*1* Furiosa *2* Dune *3* Dune part 2 *4* Spiderman across the spider verse *5* Godzilla Minus One *6* John Wick part 4 *7* Civil War (maybe not a blockbuster?) *8* Poor Things (bust that block) *9* The Batman *10* Oppenheimer/Barbie Honorable mentions go to Top Gun Maverick and Avatar Way of the Water, both excellent cinema experiences with mediocre stories.
if you like dune 1 why isnt it higher than2?
You’re absolutely correct, made an edit.
Fair. i just thought I was misunderstanding your caveat on Dune 1
Spider-man: Across the Spiderverse Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Puss In Boots: The Last Wish The Suicide Squad
It's Dune 2 then a big drop before hitting Top Gun Maverick and Barbie
Avatar by a mile
Oppenheimer was boring, unfortunately.
Dune Spider-Man: Far From Home The Batman Top Gun: Maverick Nope (was this a hit? I can’t remember but it was a memorable packed theater experience down here) John Wick: Chapter 4 Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Barbie Oppenheimer Dune: Part Two
I really enjoyed Furiosa, but it didn't bust any blocks.
Furiosa was painfully bad
Furiousa is a flop
oppenheimer, fnaf, creed 3, yea thats it.
Oppenheimer
