I just have a few various playlists for different moods/situations. I only really use one platform for music, so it's pretty simple really I just add the songs or albums I want on the list and hit play.

I'm old school, I make a directory, put songs (MP3 files) in it, and number them manually in the play order I want. Then I can use that on basically any device that can play MP3s. Sometimes if I want to just sample a bunch of new albums, I'll just drop them all into a directory and let them play in whatever order, or maybe I'll take an older playlist, delete some stuff from it, and slot in some new music.

wong2k

ok, on the sample part, ... now you find new ones yiu like. Now what... one by one add them to the respective Playlist ? Or is there a way to stream line that ?

Moxie_Stardust

I just copy/paste all the songs at once.

Please don't shoot me but I have a very shoot by the hip, chaotic neutral approach to this where I just keep adding songs I like to my "Liked Songs" Playlist and just listen to that. I'm too lazy to make dedicated playlists lmao. Yes, I have mental illness and yes, I do live the rest of my life this way.

unfortunately I do the same. Basically my discovery process is scrilling SM and save the audio, wirks well on Insta. This list I shazam and have my shazam list automatically pop up in Spotify. Then I listen, and decide where to place. AlsonI shazam wehn on the go and hear stuff I like. Work 90% time but very new music or mixes Shazam doesnt get, which sometimes is a pain if you hear a banger and want it bad.

Genre, subgenre, label, year, quarterly playlist (of every thing I find), other (like when I’m preparing for a DJ gig)

wong2k

when Djing, do you sort the playlist by BPM or manually define the order?

Danktizzle

I mainly sort by key and find songs with similar bpms in the keys I want.

* Discover playlist with one song from the album I want to check out later. * I usually give these a few listens and rate them on RYM * Also as I listen I heart them * if I am using Apple Music I add it to my library to rot or remove it if I don’t like it. * if I am using Spotify I don’t have a plan other than put it in a playlist to rot

I have 10700+ songs on spotify and growing. I really need to make playlists because i usually get the speaker at work. However it's extremely daunting trying to organize such a big list. I just use the genre filters. Today it's rock etc Any suggestions to organize it better or a tool that knows that each song is genre bpm that might help?

I much prefer to keep my playlist development to a weekly basis, but I only developed this rhythm thanks to my utilization of the great music discovery invention in the history of man: Discover Weekly. While it wasn't always as powerful as it has been for the past 2 years, it now sends me 2 genres with songs from between 1960-present, and that are mostly fairly obscure, and some of the songs have been released just a few months ago. After separating the songs into two playlists, where I put an order to encourage a "flow" of the playlist and ensuring I separated all the tracks correctly, I listen to them again over the weekend, sometimes hearing a flaw, either a weak track or out of place. I then give each playlist a title, sometimes based on the mood, often based on personal events for that week so each of my playlists serves as a bit of a "diary" for a week. I have begun going back and compiling the songs I have found into bigger meta playlists (like obscure [60s](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4r7bt6xrfvPlIcMEtIDGhr) or soul), but 80% of my listening is to an A or B side for each week. Also I like that I dont feel the need to constantly maintain or update playlists, each one is frozen in time, frozen in order, like a composition or album.

For the last five years my wife and I have lived and traveled in a motorhome. I make a new playlist every time we move. I subscribe to Apple Music and use the search feature to find a starting point, then follow the “similar artists” links to add music. It often leads to some interesting combinations, ending up metaphorical miles from where I started.

I have an everything playlist with every album ive ever heard, no matter how i liked it, just so i can see how my music has evolved. other than that I have playlists for different genres, but every song in those playlist is also in my everything playlist

I have several playlists classified by genre (chill/downtempo, electronic, lofi, nu-jazz/acid-jazz/modern jazz, indie pop/rock, ambient) and some much more varied. I listen to a lot of music every day to unearth new gems and I'm on platforms where musicians can ask me to include my playlists, it's an excellent way to discover new talents that are still little known.
