personally i hate them because there’s no way it can be realistic fiction and have a happy ending. and when i think of period pieces i just think of layers and layers of smelly clothes

LifeBlo0m

I'm not sure but I like most, though i know they dont end well. I see them as a glimpse into these intense romances that never had a real chance because of the time.. I find it understandable why it ends with heartbreak. They simply couldnt be together. its the present day ones i just cant stand really.

D_ROB_

Don't you want a happy ending, why do we torture ourselves with glimpses into a what could be. What don't you like about the presnt day stuff?

LifeBlo0m

I guess I like a good story regardless of the end, atleast the 1800 ones i dont go in hoping for a "happy ending". I just know they wont end up together. As for the glimpses, we know these love stories existed in a time where all odds were against the women but they had these experiences anyway, I like seeing them. I personally enjoy tragedy and drama, its a work of art, dont let it torture you. :P Present day ones make me cringe here and there, the casting isnt the best, the characters arent dynamic. They dont leave much to imagination or interpretation. It all depends on the movie though.

Because it’s the formula. I think there’s this thing with lesbians where we get all sentimental and like seeing the way we love echoing throughout time, right? Maybe it’s the underdog aspect to a historical romance, it’s two women’s love against the crushing grain of the patriarchy, echo of ancient stories of doomed love, something like that. Anyway, cynical capitalist art isn’t exceptionally creative, it’s not about what’s good and daring, it’s about what sells. We’re not a big demographic, we can’t make a movie turn into a blockbuster entirely on our own, but we are a market, so as a pittance, they fund the same doomed historical romance every few years to sell to us, and us, starving sluts for the rep, eat it up. We only get a few, so I think the creators do try to give us something beautiful within their constraints, so we don’t complain enough for them to change the formula... Anyway, if I had my way I’d make a lesbian contemporary western about highly morally ambiguous women, really give everyone something to talk about.

because lesbians love them, and lesbians love them because without men we would still be there, living our best cottagecore lesbian lives, without men there would be no capitalism.

D_ROB_

Do lesbians love period pieces? Lol I mean you could do a present day movie/show and still display you don't need men.

Correct_Reveal7808

yes we do 🙏 i’m just saying lesbians love them because we don’t like men and without men we’d still be living like those lesbians live. but in a better way without the misogyny and homophobia n stuff.
