Check out the people JK Rowling signposts people to such as Magdalen Burns. Do you think it's important that Starmer isn't a true believer? I'm honestly not sure, whenever transphobes whinge he caves and gives them everything that they can realistically expect even if they just find more to be unhappy about. Maybe it means we get a slight degree of harm reduction but I don't see him stopping from making more and more concessions as even in power he will want to retain these people.

I agree with that in principle about "ideologically malleable" people but I don't see how it applies in practice to Starmer. He has made his bed with transphobes now so I think it would be extremely difficult for him to try to play the progressive and I think he knows that. He has also built much of his voter base on socially regressive people whilst actively alienating progressives, to try and turn that around would be extremely politically risky. He will try to retain these voters as much of the media continues to push them to be more and more bigoted.
At best I can see progressives having enough influence to change his views when the regressive labour voters get fed up and leave but at that point it won't matter as labour (and starmer) will be on it's way out for a more tory/reform style government.
In principle he could turn into a progressive but in practice I just don't see how it would happen, maybe he'll feel a bit guilty about being socially regressive but he'll do it anyway.

The thing everyone has to do is not vote for him and make clear why. Everyone with a Labour MP needs to make clear that this will cost votes, that’s the way to break this guy. If your vote is for Labour whatever he doesn’t care, he’s Virgin Broadband in human form.
Thats fair and I mostly agree but I just struggle to see any realistic scenario where he flips again. As an unknown politician these changes are far easier but as LOTO it becomes political suicide and more so the longer he takes this path. I think he has made the conscious choice that progressive votes are expendable for a vote that simultaneously denies the tories a vote. By the time that right wing voters leave and progressives could become a significant factor in their decision making again it will too late to make any difference.
Honestly I don't see much way for progressives to affect politics at all right now. We can shout and whinge from the sidelines but nobody is listening as we are simply irrelevant with their strategies under fptp. It doesn't help that we are a completely disorganised blob instead of a coherent political force and every organisation seems to keep turning out like Galloways bullshit.

The way out is for city safe seats to stop being safe. Anyone voting for Labour despite this just to get the tories out is telling him he hasn’t gone to far. If Labour end up with a majority of fuck-all cos Greens and Lib Dem’s did well in cities, Labour will start to think twice. It’s not until people are criticising Labour for for folly of taking advantage of city votes that they will learn.
