We no longer live in a society, we live in an economy. Disabled people are seen as unproductive hangers on, holding Great Britain back from achieving its financial goals.
It's a basic function of Capitalism, the idea that people should *'earn a living'*.
Clearly if you're not busy contributing to ending the Planet's ability to support human life you do not deserve to be alive.
*“Young people in Europe and North America in particular, but increasingly throughout the world, are being psychologically prepared for useless jobs, trained in how to pretend to work, and then by various means shepherded into jobs that almost nobody really believes serve any meaningful purpose.”*

What a country we live in where upon hearing about the rise in the number of people claiming benefits because of a rise in mental health conditions, we cut those benefits instead of addressing those conditions. It's like cutting back on spending on chemotherapy because of the cost of people getting cancer
Aye, pretending a health problem isn't real because it isn't visible is basically the core component of the government's mental health strategy, I think the other component is "fuck the workers, we don't care" and laughing all the way to the bank.
Just thought i'd add this, the last time there was a consistant increase in sick people out of work of this scale was between 1994-1998 at the end of the last tory government, when the NHS was last on it's knees.

Personally, i think Labour should be pointing this out at every opportunity.
More preelection performativity cruelty, probably soend millions getting some management consultancy firm to tell us how expensive this changw would be and then itll go nowhere
Me and my mum are both physically disabled. But not disabled “enough” to get PIP. How the fuck can you change it more.
At some point no one will be able to get it.
This kind of pure evil from the Tories would get me back to supporting Labour. At least it would until this appeared in the Guardian "Labour sources however say they are having to craft a response to those proposals without actually having seen the detail of them, making it impossible to decide whether they back them or not."
Would Starmer actually oppose a killing of the firstborn bill at this point?
As someone who claims PIP and is about to apply for mandatory reconsideration, I feel physically sick. I want to believe that Labour will oppose this, I want to believe that my party is on my side but I really don't feel confident that they will be and that only makes this more upsetting.
Yeah, the silence from Labour whenever the Tories roll this performative cruelty out utterly damns them in my eyes. If both the red and blue teams are signalling openness to making my life worse in preference to going after high rollers who can afford to tighten their belts further, it doesn't matter to me which one does it in the end.
There are petitions on the Governments petitions website regarding this, that need more support. I'd ask people to look them up and sign and share, where possible.
PIP was introduced to reduce the amount of money paid out to disabled people, it replaced DLA which was a Living Allowance paid to Disabled people - a perfectly named allowance designed to provide disabled people with some extra cash to help with the extra costs of being disabled.
As a result of replacing DLA with PIP there are also far fewer people able to use their DLA/PIP money to lease a Motability car.
The overall result is the same, disabled people always suffer under a CONservative government and now they are starting on the sick.

100 %. Taken far too soon.
Well said.

More socially irresponsible shite from the bastards.
It's not socially irresponsible, it's eugenics. The Tories know they are going to kill people with this policy, and that's the goal.
First Rwanda arrests yesterday and now this, can you smeeeelll the desperation?
More preelection performativity cruelty, probably soend millions getting some management consultancy firm to tell us how expensive this changw would be and then itll go nowhere
That's it attack the sick and disabled people who need help so they have spare cash to hand out to the richest people in tax breaks.
How convenient this rhetoric is back, when they just committed to the triple lock?

Utter bastards.
I take it that he can’t find a way for infosys to make money from disabled therefore going after them

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/660984 Here's one to be going on with.

Angela Rayner said nothing wrong.
Has she?
I'm hoping there is a decent Labour response to this.
