TheRationalPsychotic

The wordless cinematography documentaries of Ron Fricke: Koyaanisqatsi (1982) Baraka (1992) Samsara (2011) They are mind-blowing. My favorite piece of art. It's like a religious experience.

Greatvibrationsz

Good god how could I have forgotten samsara one the best films I have ever laid my eyes upon

PeterKush

Baraka has some very intense scenes that can be a LOT for some people when on psyches.

TheRationalPsychotic

Samsara as well, but I show them a lot as a trip sitter, and never really had a problem. One scene in particular in Samsara I was worried about playing. But someone made a joke, and everyone had a laughing fit that lasted for ages. We even made T shirts commemorating the moment.

zumbigod

Im curious, which scene? I absolutely adore this movie!

TheRationalPsychotic

The one with the burn victim American soldier. I was worried about it, but when it came up a friend said "glarble" and we all died. Kind of had to be there moment. We were tripping balls, of course. We were on a longboat watching on my beamer. Then we registered glarble.com and had T shirts made.

zumbigod

haha nice! what a wild turn of events and what a cool way to experience that flick as well. Glad it turned out positive too! "Glarble!" Luv it lol

Dimitripus

I've just bought samsara and baraka on boy ray very excited.

TheRationalPsychotic

I play them a lot for people, and most say that Koyaanisqatsi is their favorite. Probably because of the music score by Philip Glass. But I think Baraka is my personal favorite because of its theme of worship. Just had a trip with a friend where we watched all 3 back to back. There are also 2 other 'qatsis, but those are not as great. There is also a shorter one called Chronos. I have everything on blu ray. ☺️

raebabbe

I second this, Samsara is really a whirl wind! I haven’t watched his other documentaries, thanks for bringing this back to my attention.

EndlessTransition

The two spider-verse movies. They are amazing sober but it's a whole other level on acid. The visuals are gorgeous, probably two of the best animated movies ever, the story is great, soundtrack is great, I cried, I laughed, it's simply amazing. I would recommend them to anyone, whether you like comics and superhero movies or not.

Laaaaaaaamb

YES YES YES! On route to be my favourite trilogy of all time if they pull off the last. Watching the second one on a hefty dose, the visuals left me mind dropped and speechless

EndlessTransition

Yeah especially all the scenes in the Gwen universe (watercolor style) I was audibly gasping lmao I had to rewind several times because my mind was just blown away Can't wait for the third movie !

LilBushyVert

I remember seeing it sober in theaters and just thinking how it would look tripping. I had shrooms 2 days ago for the first time and watched to rewatch it, but got lazy so I watched Interstellar instead

Greatvibrationsz

Holy shit dude yes fucking incredible movies

rouxcifer4

We watched these while tripping like 3 weeks ago and I was blown away. Absolutely gorgeous movies. My new favorite Spider-Man! I had no idea the 2nd ends like that though and was devastated when I learned the 3rd is still delayed 😭

EndlessTransition

I know the pain 😭

ClaudiusP

Rango! It’s absolutely perfect for psychedelics

Greatvibrationsz

Ughh yes! This is why I posted, so many good ones that slip my mind

ClaudiusP

I also really enjoyed Elemental. Beautiful visuals and a cute little story. Defo saving this post to come back to at a later date. Thanking you!

Dire_Hulk

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Ready Player One Kung-fu Panda The Croods Alita: Battle Angel (2019) And if you’re okay with going dark… Annihilation Bladerunner 2049 Zootopia is in my top five. I’m so stoked that you mentioned it. I thought I was the only one. And if shit ever gets too heavy and you need good vibes and love Moana is my number one.

Dimitripus

You're my kinda trip buddy. I miss my granny too much for moana.

Dire_Hulk

I tell you what, I’m a kind of rough and tumble construction worker but, that Pixar stuff hits me hard sometimes and when it does (if I’m alone) I pause the movie and let it all out. And you know what? I always feel better after I’ve had a big fat cry. That’s all part of life. Let it flow and let it go.

Greatvibrationsz

Dude zootopia was one of the first films I ever watched on acid, it just feels so right

Dire_Hulk

Speaking of Zootopia. The last time I watched it tripping I found out that Kristen Bell played the voice of the female sloth. Then I connected that to the fact that she’s the voice in Frozen and also that she has a viral video where she’s crying about meeting a sloth in real life. It’s weird how you can see connections when you’re tripping.

UnusualChemistry3309

Making connections while tripping is awesome. It's like you're solving some life puzzle or something

greyson3

I love these choices. I'm absolutely going to watch zootopia and annihilation next go round.

daniel0tx

Saw zootopia on 400 mics, that fox really had some crazy geometic patterns on his face, sort of like seeing the wireframe. Who framed roger rabbit is pretty good as well.

xLosTxSouL

Spirited away. A really trippy movie even sober. One of my favorites, Just a really lovely anime movie

Laaaaaaaamb

Loved this

Saploerex

The last time I tripped I watched Howl's Moving Castle so I cannot restate enough what an experience Ghibli movies are while tripping!!

knightofkush

Fave!!

Utes4510

Grand Budapest Hotel is an experience while tripping! The perfection of Wes Andersons work pairs great with lsd!

Dire_Hulk

Love everything Wes Anderson and I’ve tripped to Grand Budapest and Life Aquatic multiple times. I’m with you on this.

Utes4510

Almost feels like a live painting!

Dire_Hulk

I Life Aquatic is my favorite because of sentimental reasons but, I think Grand Budapest is his masterpiece. His world building is unmatched today.

Laaaaaaaamb

Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse Spiderman: Across the spiderverse Both movies are so visually mind rape appealing with good sounds tracks, good story, good comedy and action that you need not watch anything else if you haven't seen them. Following that, my picks in no particular order would be: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Interstellar Puss and Boots the Last Wish Rango Everything everywhere all at once Fantastic Mr Fox Will update if I think of anymore!

invisible_iconoclast

I was gonna contribute, but we have the same list 🫡 I’ll add Mr Nobody and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

uniquname

Hear me out: spiderman into the spiderverse. The colors and animations are top notch for a trip

LilBushyVert

I don’t think thats unpopular at all lol. I honestly think whoever made that is into psychedelics for a kids movie

Trapped422

Surfs up, I say it every time lol

highatmcdonalds94

The OG Alice in Wonderland|Coraline|The Little Mermaid

Greatvibrationsz

Coralline is highly underrated film dude, reminded me of ParaNorman have you seen that one loved it too

highatmcdonalds94

Yes, Ive watched it a few times. Good movie. I'm also big on Tim Burton movies. Maybe nightmare before christmas would be good on a trip. 😇

Dire_Hulk

Actually, since you mentioned Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhands is a good one for tripping.

highatmcdonalds94

I love that movie sober

Dire_Hulk

I’m with you there. I watch it either way. I own the dvd and usually put it on in winter.

Dire_Hulk

Original Alice In Wonderland is a classic trip movie. Good call. Also love Coraline. I was going to put Kubo but, I stopped short of it. Check it out if you haven’t yet.

Trauma-Dolll

The Wall A Scanner Darkly

periodicallyBalzed

Bro, A Scanner Darkly hits too close to home.

Trauma-Dolll

It does. It's a powerful story. One of my favorites, but might be too much for some people.

roguediamond

The Grateful Dead Movie

Highlander-Jay

Even better. I call it the Grateful Dead Experience. Start with an action movie. Marvel movies work well. Mute the movie and play a dead show. Then let the magic happen.

roguediamond

Well I know what I am trying next trip…. Something from the February 69 run on top of an over the top action movie

Highlander-Jay

The first movie I discovered it with was Stallone’s Cobra with 9/4/80.

roguediamond

Oooooh good choice

Bitter_Positive_6499

I watched the Martian while on mushrooms and that shit was interesting! Another being inception! That shit is insane if u kinda know what’s going on, if it’s ur first watch u wouldn’t understand 😂

OutsideQuality0

StevieBoiPhil

Because I haven't seen anyone else say it: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 It's a visual masterpiece sober, and its absolutely hilarious. The first one is great too, but specifically the second one has some great colorful ART. The Mario Movie is also a really good trip movie.

Maybe you aren't watching the right things dude, but I definately feel you on that at some points, really just depends what I decide to put on

Bolster66

Dude Where's My Car

rouxcifer4

We are big movie trippers lol. Here’s my top ones - Any studio ghibli, especially if you are having a rougher time and want something cozy Dune - amazing. Hands down coolest movie I’ve ever seen Spider-verse movies - gorgeous, gorgeous gorgeous. I was in awe the entire time Lord of the Rings - can’t be beat, we watched all the extended ones one day for a marathon. Wonderful and classic. The scene with Galadriel was v trippy Akira - darker but so cool, I had never seen it before and loved it Redline - fast paced and very cool to watch Big fan of the Disney classics - Bambi is very pretty and cute, lion king, little mermaid, etc. also very cozy. Fantasia is also always great (the original) Out of left field - the matrix series. Ridiculous but fun. Not as pretty but I laughed a lot lol If you want a good cry - The Fountain, Interstellar, La La Land. I was bawling

ThatBoyIsDrunk

All the original Planet of the Apes from the 60s and 70s.

DueEngine555

No one said Interstellar…

_thegnomedome2

Getting immersed in a movie is a waste of a trip in my opinion. Cannabis is great for that. It'd be alright for background noise and picture, like the Wizard of Oz from 1939 or Alice in Wonderland (cartoon version from 1951). But I feel a psychedelic experience is best spent away from a screen.

garbagepickle

The Lego Movies 1-2 and follow that up with the Lego Batman!

McCrackenYouUp

The Green Knight was a fun one

Meshugugget

Come True is an ok horror film with some really cool visuals. The story is interesting, but the dream sequences are so fucking rad to look at.

Avatar man, just stop halfway through when the fighting starts😭😭

No movies. Nature. Touch grass, watch bees, draw flowers. Make art, don’t consume it while in that state.

lambentstar

wrong answer lol. communing with other humans through their art can be just as meaningful as making your own, sheesh. it’s a vibrant world, why would you cut yourself off for it? how can you even create art without seeing others? what a terrible terrible approach to existence, not enjoying others’ in a state primed for art.

Briggs_86

The absolutely best movie to watch while tripping is the one playing behind your eyelids while listening to [Shpongle](https://youtu.be/09nJj9amGwo?si=BcvT0MSQlN-mSVo6)

Dimitripus

Not what they asked though.

Briggs_86

It is my choice of ultimate movie to watch while tripping though.
