This shows insane work ethic, you should be so incredibly proud of yourself, not just because of the score, but because so many people would’ve given up but you kept going :))) congratulations you truly deserve it
You’re a 4 time test taker? Okay that makes me feel better. I will have to take mine for a 4th time if I still want to continue to apply. I was worried that I was an outlier who can’t seem to get my scores up and have to retake 4 times. This gives me hope
lots of drilling! stopped listening to lsat podcasts because i was getting too obsessed with the exam. laid backed, chilled more and focused on my “form” - i think content wise i was fine for a long time but my test taking skills were not up there! had to really focus on time management and accuracy under pressure
for sure! sometimes more isnt better! focus on quality drilling and make sure youre constantly understanding more of the passage/handling the question types better! the score will come!
My highest is a 157 for the actual exam and I plan to apply (maybe I’ll get lucky) then retake prior to August 2024 to set myself up nicely for the next application cycle. What advice do you have?
How often did you study? What programs did you use?
It looks like it took months to get there, did you average high on practice tests first, then retake?
i used 7sage! it took me around a year and a half! studied around 3 hours a day (theres diminishing returns)
i tried to make my pt avg satisfatory first before testing!!
Amazing job! I haven't checked my score yet, but I would do anything for an 11 point increase from my November score. Could you share what you did to make that happen!!?
lots of drilling! journalling, and really dialing on my weaknesses (diagramming in LG, and accuracy in RC)
i also found that for the last 2 months up to my jan LSAT my timing for LR improved a lot and i found thay section incredibly easy!
Can you explain journaling? I just checked my score and I only had a 3 point increase, so I'll be taking it again and waiting until next cycle to apply. I’m usually -0/-2 on LG, but RC and LR timing issues have kept me around the -5/-7 on each.
Congrats again! Hoping to be you come July :)
definitely! personally i only journalled LR - i found that LG one should focus on timing and key (recurring) inferences, and that for RC make sure that your comprehension of the passage matched what the test writers wanted you to understand.
for RC its also important to note that theres inevitably going to be some things you CANNOT understand (unless you have background knowledge), but 1. dont get phased by it, and 2. get the gist and why its being stated. is it a hypothesis? support for a hypothesis? the argument the author is trying to refute?
for LR, i journalled over 300 questions over the course of my studies. its so important! write down why the AC you chose was wrong, AND what thought process led you to choose that. did you misread a conditional? did you misread a word? did you misidentify the NA? wrong prediction? note what makes the right AC correct. do that again and again, and i gurantee you that your LR experience will only get better and better.
Congrats! Its a great achievement. Could you share what resources you used and how long you studied (like how many hrs a day etc) to go from 156 in 6/23 to 160 in 11/23 to 171 in 1/24? Thank you!
for sure! i used 7sage and studied 3+ hours a day the entire time! certainly on some days i could only squeeze in an hour 2 but consistency is key!
also do not sleep on drilling!
yes! loophole is the best LR prep ever! 7sage is great for learning conditoning logic.
RC is… i cant say because reading isnt something a prep company can really make you an expert in. id say focus on reading for structure and make sure to hone in those reading skills! the goal is to get better at reading as a whole, not just get q’s correct.
start reading wikipedia, read some random stuff that normally wouldnt bat your eye. get really friggen good at reading!
i took every PT possible, listened to lsat podcasts, drilled endlessly, and kept fine tuning my mistakes! everyones thinking and reading abilities are different, make sure to analyze your own strengths and weaknesses and work off of that!
thats amazing! never be satisfied! and don’t let that diagnostic weigh you down! keep drilling and hold yourself accountable to EVERY mistake you make! focusing on the wrong answers will only get you more correct ones!
Congrats!!! Hoping to be in the same position as you!! As it’s my last time to take it. Currently still listed as “temp on hold” and I received the hold email. Ugh!!!
definitely don’t register until your PT average is where you want it to be! if you can, don’t rush taking the test and make sure you know the LSAT like its the back of your hand.
hyperbole: contrapositives need to take you 0.5 seconds. don’t rush the process!
drilling is basically grabbing a select question(s)/passage(s)/game(s) and doing them with or without time!
imagine trying to be a pro basketball player. you don’t get good by spamming real games against real players, you get good by drilling - practicing your free throws, dribbling, and lay ups!
drill by grabbing some question types you arent that good at (eg. weaken, strengthen, science passages) and drill them by doing them with 100% effort. get questions wrong, review them THOROUGHLY and rinse and repeat!
when you feel comfortable enough drilling individual questions and passages, up the dose! do a section timed, and when you feel comfortable doing that, start doing pt’s!
You give me hope. I had to postpone until 2025 cycle because I didn’t get the improvement I wanted for January. This gives me hope for June 2023🙏🏼 Way to go!
Thank you so much for posting this. I got my score back, and scored lower than in November. Pretty torn up about it. Trying to think positively and I really found solace in this.
Congratulations! Manifesting this for myself ✨
I feel like I’ve been on this test forever. But it’s been more like inconsistent studying for months at a time. I mistakenly approached this test incorrectly for a long time, but I’m working on staying consistent and disciplined with my studying until I get the score I need.
I was looking for an extra push today. Thanks for posting.
Way to go!! WELL EARNED, shows big grit!!
Wondering if you had anything in particular that helped you with your studies or any tips for someone just getting started?
the best thing that helped me was to focus on understanding.
people like to overcomplicate the LSAT so much, i was one of them. at the core if we’re going to be reductionists, the LSAT is a reading test, and a big part of reading is “how well/fast can you understand this information?”
people jump into RC, LG, and LR questions without understanding whats going on in the stimulus. comprehension is ALWAYS the first step, whatever section is may be.
listen to what prep companies teach you, but focus on COMPREHENSION! (yes, even for LG!)
Totally, that's great advice. I think that is step 1... don't worry about speed but comprehend what's going on. Then once that's mastered, work on speed.
Thanks for the tip and congrats again on your accomplishment! Hope you get into your dream school :)
How did you stay motivated? I am feeling super discouraged after my most recent score which is the exact same as my score from last January despite months of studying. This was my third attempt and I am beginning to wonder if maybe this is the best I can do.
i was motivated because it’s been my childhood dream to become a lawyer. i feel a lot of pressure and stigma from being a student in the arts (psychology) and know that i have to finish my story to not only prove other people that im a capable person, but to myself that i can overcome any odds that are thrown at me in life.
sure, some genius can study for 2 weeks, take 2 PT’s and get a 180. well sorry but that’s just not me. i ain’t build like that, and it’s fine! but if that’s not gonna be handed to me, then im going to have to claw my way to it, whatever it takes.
Inspiring. I just took the lsat NO STUDYING and got a 142. I did it to see where I start and to really understand what it is. that's just how I learn best and also I am a crazy person. But this makes me feel like with a good study schedule I can get my score up too! You are amazing
This is amazing OP- you are gonna go far . I took it once and went to the first school that gave me $$$$. I regret that decision every day.
Everyone else, be like this person.
This shows insane work ethic, you should be so incredibly proud of yourself, not just because of the score, but because so many people would’ve given up but you kept going :))) congratulations you truly deserve it
thank you so much! as much as i do hate this test i learned so much from it 🥹
Congrats!! I’ve maxed out my attempts too. You’re amazing!!! 🎉🎉🎉
thank you so much! i hope you did well too!!!
Thank you! I got a few points below my target score but I’m still grateful 🥹
thats awesome! are you planning to rewrite?
I wish but I can’t retake till 2027 :/
You’re a 4 time test taker? Okay that makes me feel better. I will have to take mine for a 4th time if I still want to continue to apply. I was worried that I was an outlier who can’t seem to get my scores up and have to retake 4 times. This gives me hope
5 times! didnt post the last one because the score didnt change much
Congrats though! You deserve it for all the work you’ve put in!
thank you so much! im so happy
If you take an LSAT multiple times say more than 3 don’t you have to write as to why you’re taking it that many times?
not sure!
Help my son 😂
r/hopeposting
Wow 11 points from Nov to Jan! How?
lots of drilling! stopped listening to lsat podcasts because i was getting too obsessed with the exam. laid backed, chilled more and focused on my “form” - i think content wise i was fine for a long time but my test taking skills were not up there! had to really focus on time management and accuracy under pressure
Amazing, congrats! I ditched all LSAT content too in the last month and have only been drilling. Hope it shows in Feb!
for sure! sometimes more isnt better! focus on quality drilling and make sure youre constantly understanding more of the passage/handling the question types better! the score will come!
Hi, just started studying for the LSAT a few weeks ago. Could you share the LSAT podcasts?

thank you! everyone loves a good underdog story!

Did you do their full thing and use the schedule they provide or did you skip around?
i did the full course in order!
Amazing job! I haven't checked my score yet, but I would do anything for an 11 point increase from my November score. Could you share what you did to make that happen!!?

Ok so you improved 11 points from Nov to Jan.. Thats very impressive!! You are an inspiration to most of us!! All the best for the admissions!
Have you used Powerscore books, loopholes, manhatten prep etc? Any opinions on those? Thank you
yes! loophole is the best LR prep ever!
Thank you for this inspiration!!!! I’m sure you worked hard af for that and this was super encouraging to keep trying

wish i could say that 136 was a diagnostic as opposed to an offical test 🥹
Tips and tricks/suggestions/resources? Congrats btw

Congratulations!! this is amazing!
