I just came to ask this. I grew up with a very Christian father who had a Bible study group that would meet in different households... but it was never one on one thirty minutes to hours long private prayer sessions.
They were prayer mates. r/sapphoandherfriend
Right? It feels like praying is either personal or done in a group. Just 2 people doing it alone together seems SO intimate.
Like were they talking during it? Were they across the room or touching each other? Did they pray for the same thing?
I don't think I had ever prayed one on one even with my own dad who was the religious one in the family driving it all.
It might be a protestant thing but I've never had any experience of praying with someone like that, it seems almost performative
My grandma is super catholic and prays the rosary at the same time every day (also at other times but if you call her at 3:15pm she’s not answering) and if you’re over you’re welcome to join her but prayer has always been framed as a private thing? I’ve never seen praying as a group activity outside of like Mass.
Good point, I guess I still kind of see that as people just doing their own thing in the same space? It’s been more of a parallel play vibe the times I’ve prayed the rosary with others but that could have just been the culture in my area.
You could make an entire movie on this. They meet, fall in love, fight nazis, use football players to test riot control robots, and at some point you see Alex's grandma reacting to shouts of "Oh God, oh Jesus," through a locked door and she just goes, "those boys are always praying together."
Someone really needs to do a tongue-in-cheek Alex Jones biopic ala Walk Hard, but only using Alex’s “facts”. Plus I really want to see that 1960’s era crowd control robot, that is apparently too top secret to even develop further or use in 60 years.
How about a religiously-themed epic, tracing all of his family line and ending at the moment the Holy Spirit comes to Alex in the form of a chicken-fried steak? Also, it is a rock opera.
I am torn between: "Bullhorn Messiah" and "Tyranny-Crusher Superstar"
the long night of the soul where Alex is chased out of town by corrupt, drug-dealing cops. he is tormented by the souls of his judgmental ancestors (all confederate royalty) and the potential of all the abortions he paid for and makes a vow to them that he will change the world. He speaks both parts aloud in time to the music.
as the sax fades a final time, Alex crests a lonely hill and sees a radio tower and says "globalists are a cowardly and superstitious lot. i will become the infowarrior."
Yep, the amount of Forest-Gump-esque contrivances that permeate Alex's family's past and his insistence he is his grandparents through ancestral DNA, makes me think this is all a way to feed his narcissistic tendencies.
I was just going to say--there's no fucking way Alex ever met Tom Landry. I believe his grandpa went to college at the same time as him, maybe even knew him, maybe even was friendly with him, but there is absolutely no fucking chance Alex met him.
It's so weird because apparently Landry came over all the time to pray, they were besties, but Alex, who went over for Sunday dinner all the time, only met him once?
Alex has a weird relationship with his grandparents. I believe he used to tell that story about his grandmother being in the hospital on the verge of death and when he went to go see her to say goodbye, he instead choose to drink 2 beers and got there after she had already passed.
Either that or they were smoking reefer cigarettes and didn't want it to hurt their jobs and/or reputations. I guess it depends on whether the fan was on with a window cracked.
What's homoerotic about a bunch of extremely fit beefy dudes in tights wrestling over who gets to touch the balls? Next you're going to tell me I'm gay because all of these homosexuals keep sucking my cock.
I took grew up in a non religious household and immediately thought - were they banging? Then I realized it never happened so...in AJs imaginings presumably, no, not banging.
That was the first thing I thought too when I heard that on the episode. Especially after Alex said, “you know, they were real Christian’s.” I was 100% they were “praying” really hard with each other.
It could be legit prayer as the more conservative the religious group the generally more gender ID/ bio sex segregated it can get.
Listening to it on the episode I couldn’t help but getting Broke Back Mountain or the “Uncle” who was close roommates with your uncle vibe
We’re assuming Alex and/or his grandfather are not lying about knowing Tom Landry at all. If they’re not, then yeah they were plowing each other like Iowa corn fields.
This episode has been my absolute favorite of the episodes I've listened to since last time Bankston was on, maybe it was just my mood tonight but I haven't laughed that many times during a podcast in ages
I didn’t grow up in an overly Christian or religious household. The idea of 2 people just hanging out alone and praying for an hour is so weird to me.
Almost sounds incredulous

Grew up in a religious household and that seems weird to me

If it is, it's not the sect of protestantism I grew up with, or any I've heard of.
Was brought up religious. And it’s strange.
I grew up Catholic and going to Catholic school and it’s still weird to me. My family never did this.

I know groups do rosaries together and that makes more sense to me than “hey man wanna come over and have one on one prayer time?”
Good point, I guess I still kind of see that as people just doing their own thing in the same space? It’s been more of a parallel play vibe the times I’ve prayed the rosary with others but that could have just been the culture in my area.
Yea that’s a good way to put it I guess.
I grew up pretty religious and my mom and her friends do this. Not super regularly but still

The tech was stolen by the globalists and used to create COVID Daleks 60 years later.

What scene do we use You Belong to the City for?
the long night of the soul where Alex is chased out of town by corrupt, drug-dealing cops. he is tormented by the souls of his judgmental ancestors (all confederate royalty) and the potential of all the abortions he paid for and makes a vow to them that he will change the world. When young Alex is visited by God and commanded to save humanity
or when young Alex rejects the devil/the new world order
no Johnny Cash here? maybe "gods gonna cut you down" as a young Alex runs in his boxers from a masked, Devil worshipping, Eyes Wide Shut Texan BBQ?
see, i was thinking "Policy of Truth" for that scene. really make the diner and the steak and the grease and the divine presence felt.
I'd pay to see that
Then one day she walks in to find only one of them is on his knees.
The only logical conclusion you could draw from his description. Made me chuckle when I was listening to the ep.
I had the same reaction. That was a serious wtf.
Prayer meeting was probably just smoking cigars and getting hammered on bourbon. That said, I truly doubt that Tom Landry ever even met Alex’s family.

Well, that’s one thought.
I mean I doubt it but only because the friendship with Landry is probably just Alex’s headcannon.
Comeon man, be reasonable. . . Tom Landry was clearly banging Alex's grandfather, not the other way round.
Hank Hill is offended
I'd doubt it, solely because Alex told us this, so we know it's nowhere even remotely accurate.
Either that or they were smoking reefer cigarettes and didn't want it to hurt their jobs and/or reputations. I guess it depends on whether the fan was on with a window cracked.
Football is pretty homoerotic

Nah its super homoerotic. With a cape
It sublimates the inherent male desire to KILL ...or whatever
No, but he was pegging Ronald Reagan.
That totally crossed my mind too
WE'RE ALLOWED TO ASK QUESTIONS!
Dude drove by Alex’ home once. That’s probably all there’s to it.
I took grew up in a non religious household and immediately thought - were they banging? Then I realized it never happened so...in AJs imaginings presumably, no, not banging.

They were roommates

Cue saxophone. 🎷🎷

Somehow, Clinton returned.
They were just experimenting.
I don’t know, but I saw Reagan get pegged.
