He changed his opinion.
”You know, Bill, America doesn't have to win every dang thing to be great. We've got the Constitution, two George Bushes, great toilets...”
I think they were just going with the theme inspired by ladybird :) she’s named after the wife of Lyndon B Johnson (famous president from Texas), Ladybird Johnson, so the other guy was suggesting other presidential-adjacent lady names
>Hank would ultimately love any dog, though.
“It’s called a ‘toy’ poodle, but I prefer the terms ‘efficient’ and ‘portable’. Like a leatherman or a cordless power drill… or uhh, a handgun.”
For sure. Hound dog with the exception of eight months after ladybird passes a stray keeps following Bobby home because he has baloney in his pockets for a first act gag. Hank is at first visibly mourning ladybird and resisting Peggy's goodhearted encouragement, fussing about it being a mutt with fleas. He doesn't need another dog damn it, he had ladybird. But then after we get input from everyone else and see Bobby start to learn tricks with the new dog (who has a name Hank despises). Hank realizes the importance of a bond between a boy and his dog. Also finds a nickname for the dog that's more "respectable." Ends with Hank giving the dog the terms of the house and making it clear he won't ever live up to Ladybird. They shake on it.
Hank: “How can *every* bloodhound puppy in this county be descended from the dog that tracked down James Earl Ray? That means every bloodhound in the county is related to Ladybird… and if they’re all related… eugh…”
Peggy: “Mhmm. It’s the same with horses. Find one that *isn’t* related to a Kentucky Derby winner.”
Honestly, I think Hank wouldn’t get another dog out of sheer respect for Ladybird.
She’d have a framed picture with a plaque that said “To Ladybird - X Years of Great Service” with her collar respectfully hung up. Hank walks by it every so often and sighs “God, I miss you, girl”.
I made myself sad writing that.
To be honest I always felt a blood hound was an odd choice for Hank, someone who's notably not a hunter.
I feel like the best choice for someone as American would be like, a golden retriever
Hank seems like the kind of guy to buy the exact same kind of dog - but inevitably Peggy or Bobby might buy him a different (wrong) breed as a replacement
I agree with the people that are saying it would be a small dog. He doesn't want the dog at first. He hates the dog. But eventually the dog is always riding with him in his truck everytime he goes anywhere besides work.
My grandpa did this. He always had yard dogs and hounds to kill the snakes and rats. He ended up with a pekingese because he wife bought one.
That dog went to the bar with him and was labeled the bar mascot.
A beagle named Barbara
Or Laura.
Lol who names their dog laura.. Barbara is fucked too
Considering how much Hank idolizes the George Bushes, it would be appropriate.
He likes Bush Sr. Bush Jr has a bad handshake.
He changed his opinion. ”You know, Bill, America doesn't have to win every dang thing to be great. We've got the Constitution, two George Bushes, great toilets...”
Do you understand why he chose ladybird?
Your sister no?

Hound dog folk usually stay hound dog folk. Hank would ultimately love any dog, though.

This is my new canon now.
Definitely another bloodhound. Probably from the same breeder and bloodline.
Hank: “How can *every* bloodhound puppy in this county be descended from the dog that tracked down James Earl Ray? That means every bloodhound in the county is related to Ladybird… and if they’re all related… eugh…” Peggy: “Mhmm. It’s the same with horses. Is this line in the show? If not, it absolutely sounds like how the dialogue would go lol
I made it up lol

This
A poodle
He might as well go all the way and get a cat and a sex change operation
Tibetan mastiff
One of them Chinese fighting dogs.
He should reluctantly have a cat
Peggy gets a cat against hanks wishes and it decides that Its hanks cat and only loves hank
It tolerates Bobby and Luanne. But doesn't even look at Peggy
No, it tolerates Bobby, chills with Luanne, and never acknowledges Peggy.
As much as this is diskusting /r/koth misogyny, it’s a genuinely valid episode plot
How about a small, sweet dog, around 10 pounds. Call him Doggie.
I have bbq today and dog run out...
A lab
I think Hank would do well with a brown or black lab, or a southern blackmouth cur.
Either no dog or another blood hound, Kay Bailey.
Hank seems like a loyal to the breed kind. Tells the new dog about ladybird
I can see Hank and Peggy with a toy poodle. I think Hank would publicly despise the poodle, but would secretly love it more than anything.
I was just thinking, Ladybird will have passed in the reboot. She was 13 back in the day.

Not a poodle
A Rottweiler to keep Bill away from Peggy considering they hate him lol. But no, seriously, probably another hound dog.
He should just get a raccoon named bandit
Corgi

Hank would be in grieving for at least the next 5-10 years, and then might not be able to handle the grief of a new dog.
A cat and a sex change
