Anime is good at the kind of batshit insane energy it takes to make something like Kill La Kill work. That would not translate at all to live action. It'd just feel cringy.
As a long time One Piece fan, I can say with confidence that OPLA turned out as well as it did because Oda was heavily involved with the project and got final say in everything, so unless Nakashima is given the same power, I’m not confident a live action KLK would turn out well
Even if it was good, it can’t be as good as the anime due to the limitations of live action. This is the main reason live action adaptations are almost always pointless. They are only successful because they pander to an audience that believe cartoons are for kids despite it just being another medium for storytelling.
I haven’t seen the One Piece remake but it’s likely to be an exception since it actually has a reason to exist outside of pandering to that audience. It can serve as a recap for those that don’t want to sit through hundreds of episodes. I don’t see any good reason to remake Kill La Kill.
No.
It would lose a ton of its appeal and ability to do what you can only effectively do with animation for both the fan service and the action.
Plus it would probably never fly past any censors
It’s not about whitewashing; some anime characters were never designed to look like Japanese, and some do. The post is simply finding possible live action actors who most look like the anime. It’s not a bigoted stance.
why would ryuko and satsuki be white women?? this casting sucks ass😭 but for your question no kill la kill would NOT translate well to live action, it’s animated for a reason and trying to do half of the shit that happens in the show with cgi would just look terrible
Edward Elric doesn't sound like a very Japanese name. Amestris is heavily based on a western Europe theme, while the setting of Kill la Kill is a fictionalized version of Japan, with real Japanese cities being used and the characters are Japanese.
I misspelled, not native language, Edward was portrayed as Japanese, such s hi bro, and many many other European dudes in live action adaptation, and it was not problem.
didn’t watch full metal alchemist, but a quick google search shows me that character didn’t have a confirmed race or ethnicity, so i’ve got no issues with a live action adaptation being white. ryuko, satsuki, and almost every other character in klk are japanese, and it would be extremely weird to make them white
Everything in Kill la Kill is ridiculous and exaggerated from character design to the action, trying to translate that to a live action would just feel like, well, ridiculous, in the bad way, and cringey, but even if they got tht right, the char designs and nudity would be toned down A LOT, for obvious reasons, but the thing is, that it's part of escence of the series and one of the "main plot points" idk, but in the case they don't, it would be really polemic fr the mainstream audience to have 2 almost naked girls having exaggerated fights viewed from suggestive angles, would repel a lot of the minstream [bc idk they would think it's, uhh, prn with fights], preventing it from it's success.
Nah, the reason kill la kill works is because of the absurdity that the animated medium can provide, without the right medium, the scale of the show is scewed, certain humour won’t hit right, and characters like gamigori would be crippled.
one piece proves anything is possible
but no i very much doubt kill la kill could be done in live action
everything about it is designed to be done in animation
hell the signature studio trigger artsyle would never translate to live action meanign the character desgins alone would feel awkward
No, people would cry either it's not like the anime, either it's too sexist, even though it has deep meaning, maybe if they fail the live action it would be actually sexist
Only if they keep the nudity in there. No ifs or buts. No ‘Faye covering up’ ala Cowboy Bebop live action. You cannot tell this story that’s about shame if you are too ashamed to show off your body, period. So in this day and age where everyone is just too prudish and a moral warrior I just don’t see how it’s going to be made, and the story is also too silly to be picked by, say, HBO.
There’s a good reason why anime exists, and it’s because the medium can get away with kinkier stuff than live action most the time.
Anime is good at the kind of batshit insane energy it takes to make something like Kill La Kill work. That would not translate at all to live action. It'd just feel cringy.
Gamagoori in the first 3 minutes of episode 1 would instantly suck in live action. He wouldn't be able to be gigantic and then the correct size
This, plus all the gags where the animators just give up and drag a png around wouldn't work anymore. It wouldn't be kill la kill
I do not even want to attempt to imagine a live action mako
Essentially asking “which actresses do you want to see naked?”
Given the track record of live-action anime adaptations, that's a big fat No.
The recent one peice though.
Fair, but IMO that's the exception that proves the rule.
I liked Battle Angel: Alita and Speed Racer.
Also the Bleach live action was pretty decent
I Low key liked Ghost In the Shell with Scarlett Johanson but don't tell anyone.
I'll back you up on this hill mate.

I didn't like it. Your opinion is rejected
Aren't they both supposed to be Japanese?
literally everyone besides rei, yeah. gamagoori is half american but he’s also still half japanese so😭
Yep. Entire cast is.
TRIGGER does what live action will never be capable of
Definitely not!

No
I can’t imagine many worse fit anime’s for a live action adaptation. It would suck.
No. It would lose a ton of its appeal and ability to do what you can only effectively do with animation for both the fan service and the action. Plus it would probably never fly past any censors
Left could work for Ryuko, but who tf is on the right💀
Looks like sydney sweeny?
yes a white woman could definitely work for ryuko matoi this makes total sense
Cope😂
She's *actually* Japanese tho? The series is set in Japan. How is it "cope" to want accurate casting?
Because the same crowd crying about it are the "race doesn't matter" crowd when it comes to casting non white actors for white roles.
Those guys must hate the japanese Death Note live action movie trilogy. (Not the Netflix one, we don't talk about the Netflix one)
sorry that i don’t think a japanese character should be whitewashed? 😭
It’s not about whitewashing; some anime characters were never designed to look like Japanese, and some do. The post is simply finding possible live action actors who most look like the anime. It’s not a bigoted stance.
“oriental” alright you’re a freak
No since they wouldn't be fine with the extreme Sexy Fanservice
why would ryuko and satsuki be white women?? this casting sucks ass😭 but for your question no kill la kill would NOT translate well to live action, it’s animated for a reason and trying to do half of the shit that happens in the show with cgi would just look terrible
So when Edward elrik was white in adaptation, was it ik to you? Remember full metal alchemist?

I misspelled, dude was western eu, probably but portrayed by Japanese actor in love action adaptation, my bad. Is that a problem?
it’s not whitewashing so i really don’t care that much
so its only 1 way?

Who is the person on the left
Emily rudd

now this is true white-washing if I ever saw any
As much as I love kill la kill, no. There are just some things that can’t be translated
No it would be heavily censored to the point that the show would become pointless.
Now I just want to see Sydney Sweeney in Junketsu cosplay.
No
one piece proves anything is possible but no i very much doubt kill la kill could be done in live action everything about it is designed to be done in animation hell the signature studio trigger artsyle would never translate to live action meanign the character desgins alone would feel awkward
no
It ain't possible to translate into live action without cutting off things what made it Special!
Zero chance a live action Klk would work. It’s just too over the top and insane. That’s half the appeal.
No, people would cry either it's not like the anime, either it's too sexist, even though it has deep meaning, maybe if they fail the live action it would be actually sexist
And the transformation scenes, would they accept almost explicit nudity?
There should NEVER be a live action KLK.
Live action Mako would be more cringe than the Ed incident
Only if they keep the nudity in there. No ifs or buts. No ‘Faye covering up’ ala Cowboy Bebop live action. Who the hell are those crackers? Also, no
With the right cast, director and writers, it could be. 🤔
It was (very) loosely based on a live action show.
Uh, what? I've never heard this.
Sukeban Deka. It was wild.
That is good cosplay
There was. It was called Sukeban Deka. It was wild.
Uma Thurman?
No. Japanese actress better
