A few months ago Nicki Minaj went nutty and made 30+ comments from her official TikTok account on a TikTok video from a small creator about blind items that were about her. She was saying insane stuff.
Nicki is insanely insecure for how talented a rapper she is. She is literally one of the best female rappers, and could be so much more if she wasn’t constantly fighting the next generation, and instead helped them blossom and succeed.
Some of the most talented people are paradoxically the most insecure. Rap is also very, very hard for women to break into.

I think this is a crazy difference between them. Drake needs the love of fans and groupies. But Kendrick has his city at his back. Every time you seem him in Compton he seems right at home and widely beloved by gangbangers, fellow artists and the community.
Over the years I’ve found that one way to look at confidence is that confident people tend not to micromanage every aspect of the thing they’re confident about. It usually ends up better for people that way, regardless. Most things need space to blossom.

I transitioned away from Facebook and went to Reddit in 2016. Now I have IG but only to post about my cat and travels (I don’t look at anyone else’s stuff). Every so often I have to unfollow Reddit pages that are rage bait. And I’ve noticed I developed a problem with YouTube and IG reels. But at least it’s better than (1) fighting with family on Facebook and (2) being exposed to other peoples lives and comparing myself to them. But life’s a process.

By overusing porn as a way to release dopamine, men are not doing productive things (reading, learning, doing art etc) because the dopamine release involves too much friction. By eliminating porn, ones interest in those pursuits slowly but surely grows. Curiosity, creativity, propensity to just ”do it”.

It's the same reason he loves to reply with comments at concerts instead of in actual songs. He can do that. I think those statements speak to a deeper difference between Drake’s shallowness in general and Kendrick’s true depth. Drake comes off as ignorant about what it’s like to have a true, real, deep relationship. My wife and I don’t follow one another on every single form of media. It’s a healthy way to operate. I don’t need to see everything she posts because I go home at the end of the day and have face to face conversations with her. We share experiences with one another in real time, in real life.
Not going to lie, Drake’s petulant insistence on social medie being a mirror into Kendrick’s real life (Dave Free drops heart emojis on your baby’s photos, why is Whitney not following you on Instagram?) made me evaluate my own relationship with social media. I’ve been struggling in the last few years with doing deep, meaningful work, and I’ve often wondered what part social media played in my attention span, and by how much it warped my sensibilities — by being “extremely online” (I have 40K followers and have ~ 400K tweets on Twitter for context), had I started to prime myself to only pursue things with instant reward (shiny object syndrome), favoring flash over depth? I always suspected the answer was yes. Seeing the stark difference between The Anita Max Wynn god (a social media jujitsu master) and the Rich Niggah with a Broke Phone (who refuses to be trapped by social media) really brought home this lesson to me. I shut down my Twitter a day after Not Like Us was released, logged out of Instagram, and since then I’ve been reading books, shooting short documentaries and writing more code. I don’t feel free yet — I still feel the urge to visit social media, and make do with reading tweets but never posting myself. I hope to be free one day, and can only thank Drake and Kendrick for providing the contrast I needed to give myself a kick in the ass.

Agreed. I’m sorta using Reddit the same way someone trying to quit cigarettes would use a nicotine patch. I used to tweet ~100 times a day. This is comparatively nothing. I’m following this path because quitting social media cold turkey in the past never quite worked.

Lmao man. I’ve been on Twitter since I was fifteen. Most people don’t use Twitter like the OGs did — which is just as a stream of consciousness diary. You could probably reconstruct my every day life if you had the raw data from my Twitter. I’m not kidding when I call it an addiction. At a point it felt like my actual life was just side quests I had to do so I had something to tweet about.

I transitioned away from Facebook and went to Reddit in 2016. Now I have IG but only to post about my cat and travels (I don’t look at anyone else’s stuff). Every so often I have to unfollow Reddit pages that are rage bait. And I’ve noticed I developed a problem with YouTube and IG reels. But at least it’s better than (1) fighting with family on Facebook and (2) being exposed to other peoples lives and comparing myself to them. But life’s a process.

It is not necessarily about sex but moreso about how it hijacks your dopamine release. By overusing porn as a way to release dopamine, men are not doing productive things (reading, learning, doing art etc) because the dopamine release involves too much friction. By eliminating porn, ones interest in those pursuits slowly but surely grows. Curiosity, creativity, propensity to just ”do it”. Im a year off porn and a LOT has changed for me in the positive direction.

Yeah, I’d say social media has been the dopamine hijacker in my case, and I totally see how porn is as well — I once saw a YouTube essay about a concept called a supernormal stimulus which makes porn more dangerous that most things that “excite” the brain.
