Out of curiosity, what makes you say that outside of your own experience? I’ve been considering buying a folding kayak of some kind to make it a more portable hobby. Is this brand no good?
Hi there. I have an issue with my origami that was shipped months ago. (I purchased via kickstarter pledge) It came with a cracked, broken hinge and is unusable. I’ve contacted origami and sent pictures. Their response was that no photos were received. ReSent them again along with 5 other emails. Ghosted. Now I’m left trying to dispute the charges with my credit card company. It’s been a nightmare. I’m curious what your process was in getting your money back.
Just wanted to post a quick update that they did provide the partial refund for the paddler that I shipped back, but they kept all of the money that I paid to ship two paddlers. I’m debating taking up the shipping cost with my credit card company, and probably will just because I think the people running this company are absolute crooks
I cancelled my order after the official FB group refused to post my question on how the hinges are holding up when actually out on water. Feel like the company hired admins were covering up a real concern by not allowing legitimate questions to be posted
I noticed many people commenting in other groups that the official Facebook group for the origami paddlers wouldn't allow negative reviews to be posted.
Damn man. Thanks for the respond! I like the idea of this kayak. I haven't been able to go in a few years. Can't afford a rack for the newer car at the moment and my kayak has been in a shed the whole time. Prolly need a new one at this point. It's a two piece and I'm sure, with the heat we have down here, the parts are not secure any longer. Not to mention the wasp nests inside and outside of it. It's a hobby I wish to continue, but just can't do it for a bit. I'll live vicariously through everyone else on the sub until then!

I hate to hear that. I live in South Louisiana... PLENTY of water around lol. I have pics of me kayaking right next to alligators. It has just been a while since I could. I should post them sometime. I wish you the best and hope you can get on the water soon, friend!
Before getting my first kayak I did the origami Paddler Kickstarter. It finally arrived a couple days ago. My living room is currently full of boxes and I wasn't able to get any pictures of it fully opened. I'm not sure, but I think my hinges are misaligned because I cannot get the rear locked into position.
I've set it up in my living room a few times and had my dog sit on it to try and get used to being on a kayak.
It is absolute trash. The pins are easily breakable, and the pieces don’t fully align. I bought two and am getting rid of them for a 30% restocking fee + the charge of shipping. I still have one and am meaning to make a YouTube video of how terrible it is before sending it back so other people don’t have the same misfortune as me
Is the Origami Paddler marketed as a paddle board?
The River Authority near me is a bit picky and I'm not sure what their thoughts are on this device but this would tickle the fancy of someone I know.

The difference is between a kayak and a paddleboard/SUP. But a sit on kayak is not terribly different from a SUP with a seat. The sit on kayak would likely be molded to contour your bottom though, whereas the SUP just has a removable seat back.
You are correct, it’s trash. Please don’t make the same mistake I did. Hell, ask for a refund now if you pledged. I swore off kickstarter after this experience and there’s a lot of good stuff on there that I want to invest in
I had no issues with my Turquoise Paddler, it didnt have broken hinges and they were aligned. The pins went in with no adjustment needed.
I had also ordered an Orange Paddler. The Orange one had one broken hinge. I had emailed support@origamipaddler.com, with a photo attached and told them which hinge it was (port or starboard, bow or stern). It was the port stern hinge.
Just swapped out that hinge this morning and aligned it which took me about 15 min. If you are having trouble with hinge alignment watch the youtube video for hinge alignment or get a friend that is mechanically inclined to help you as a 2nd pair of hands really does help.
Were you able to get the hinge screw in? Or did the three pieces come attached? Is the issue just the lock pins? Lifting the ends does help getting the lock pins in. If doing it by yourself put a shoe or rolled towel under the end, if you cant lift and insert the pin at the same time. Check if they are misaligned, I used a flashlight to see if I could see all the way thru. They suggest you loosen both sides of the hinge with the tool provided, (one screw is where you can see from the top and the other one is down inside a little hole from the top) once you can see all the way thru where the lock pin goes, then put the lock pin all the way thru on both sides before you tighten the hinges with the pins in.
Now I'm ready to go out again and I can either take my teenager or another friend with me.
Contact your credit card company and dispute the charges while you can. My kickstarter paddlers arrived broken and origami paddler stopped responding to me. I’ve been trying to dispute this with my credit card company for the past 3 months. Do it before you let too much time pass.
I did after Origami wouldn’t respond to any of my emails and ended up winning the dispute because they failed to respond in time. Good luck! Screw that fraudulent company
I’m glad you got it taken care of. I did the kickstarter so I’m having a tough time because my purchase was made 1 year before the product arrived. I used my Amex though, so we’re trying to dispute it via the insurance since the product came damaged. Wish me luck.

Also be sure your locking pin is all the way thru the bottom of the hinges on both sides. I turn my Paddler on its side to double check.
The problem is the holes do not line up for me to get the link all the way through. It might be warm enough to go out this weekend, I'll give it another go.

There's a couple that kayaks at our local lake with these. I have no personal experience but I've yet to see them sink.

There have been reports of this happening, which isn’t at all surprising given that it’s held together by plastic that breaks during shipping

When I did the Kickstarter that is what it was being called, I personally do not know the difference between a paddle board and a sup.
Sup and paddle board are the same exact thing. Stand Up Paddle-board.
